01:15like go talk to her and I said oh she don't like me we ended up having a good conversation
01:19and then
01:20we've been together ever since we've worked together ever since college from real estate
01:25to mortgages and in our spare time we dress up as pirates a part of a pirate group we have
01:35socials we
01:36get together and make our costumes we raise money every month for charitable organizations we like the
01:43pirate life we found a group of friends down here so we're looking for a home here in past Christiane
01:50on
01:50Mississippi Golf look at this out here it doesn't get any better this is awesome we ought to seriously
01:57start looking for a place near the beach yeah we can take a look start the search and see what
02:03we can
02:03find we live in Slidell Louisiana which is about 45 minutes from here and we've been coming down to
02:09past Christiane for about six to seven years a lot of people come from New Orleans it's only about an
02:15hour and it's located on the Mississippi Gulf it's on the east side of St. Louis Bay between Biloxi and
02:21Bay St. Louis the beaches are wonderful this whole area for a good 15 miles is just beautiful sand and
02:29you've got all these gorgeous homes nice friendly mom-and-pop type businesses it's peaceful you're right
02:37on the water we love it we want to spend a couple weeks at a time and have a home
02:42and a place to stay
02:43if we could set it up so that it could become a permanent home down the road here that would
02:48be wonderful I would like to be nearby so we can ride our bikes so walking distance is important and
02:55then I'd like to have at least one extra bedroom for guests no less than three yeah I don't want
03:01too big of a house but I want to be comfortable we're down in the south and nine months out
03:06of the
03:06year it's gorgeous weather dinner so we definitely want to find something that we can have an outdoor
03:11tiki bar we can have something that we can enjoy the outdoors definitely two bathrooms we need an
03:15office space doing remote work what if we found a place that had a great price and it needed some
03:22renovations and some cleanup would you be cool with that oh I'm definitely cool with that I mean we've
03:26done it before yeah with other properties yeah we know what we're doing and we want to find something
03:30that's a good value if we can standard four hundred thousand dollars and we'd be real comfortable with
03:34that yeah Cindy's wonderful interior designer she absolutely knows how to redo kitchens and bathrooms
03:42and and then I like building I do like to do some repairs and remodeling we have had our friends
03:48pushing
03:48us to move down here for years we're excited about it all right yeah you're great at looking up stuff
03:55online why don't you go find us some places to go take a look at yeah I'm ready to be

18:13we're super excited to call past Christian our new home each property had its own unique details
18:19and experience to it I really like Bayou Bay it's got a nice piece of property but there's a little
18:25noisy there with the roadway I like the canal Cove is on the water real close to the bay
18:30my biggest thing is the size of it 1200 square feet I know we're talking about downsizing but
18:37that's a little too small I think so we decided to go with I mean location location location it's a
18:46block from the beach at the end we said you know what let's get the bigger home you wanted to
18:51go a
18:52little smaller the more we fall in love with it I'm thinking that we may end up moving down here
18:57full
18:57time and we're gonna build this big tiki bar in the back and entertain folks Serenity Sands was listed
19:02at 425,000 and they hadn't had any activity for about a year so we offered cash 300,000 and
19:10they accepted
19:11it we found the right place and we got the right price so now we got a lot of work
19:15to do we couldn't
19:18be happier I'm excited yeah yeah we bought this place oh yeah hey we're home yeah we got to figure
19:26out what we're gonna do in here yeah this is what do you want to do with this remove it

19:33keep the fireplace but let's think about a bookcase unit that surrounds it a feature wall with shelves I
19:42like it the track lighting I think we ditch it and put down lights coming into the bookcase on each

20:32remove the closet okay I'm thinking single mirrors some new vanity lighting and we got to get rid of
20:39this closet right in the front here when you come in and open this up and this door is too

20:45need to get at least a 30 inch door in there yeah so this is probably gonna be the most

20:50no we've got the kitchen too okay so in here I think all new appliances I'd like to paint the

21:02take that oven unit out lower it and fix the soffit and decorate this some beadboard replace the countertops
21:09over here replace the back back with some pretty tile well I want to put that window in the dining
21:15room here so you're looking in here mm-hmm we're gonna have to knock this counter down yeah I would

21:20to make it one level and put a huge butcher block and extend this out more we could put some
21:26stools
21:27and then some pendants over the peninsula this is gonna look great all right but we saw let's talk

21:47clear panels on the roof keep some light in here I like that between the windows we do a back

22:28them up just a little bit but they're in pretty good shape overall after closing costs we technically
22:33have about a hundred thousand left over but we crunched numbers and decided to keep it right
22:38around fifty thousand and we'll be doing some of the work ourselves so fifty thousand dollars plus our
22:44work we're gonna be getting a lot out of it mm-hmm but we're gonna get some good help look

23:20outfits dirty and so forth they switched to other clothes so the goal for today is first to move all

23:26furniture out of the rooms for popcorn removal okay now wait a minute it's not gonna fit we gotta take
23:32those off all right we're also gonna rip up the carpet and knock some walls down are you ready to

24:03this is fun isn't it I'm having a great time yes I am so happy what's been done so far

24:12are empty we got the wall almost fully demos and our subcontractor Juan is here he'll kind of lead
24:19the way on the bathroom remodel and the kitchen remodel hey Juan how's it going I'm going to try to
24:26take a
24:26whole piece but it's too tight there so tight here so we can cut it you got to cut it
24:30in half before we go
24:33back to slide L I'd like to get some progress started on the kitchen make sure that the bathroom is
24:41completely gutted this is awesome we're empty isn't that awesome yeah I think we're here to help yeah
24:48because we're gonna come back for the party you are you don't help you don't get to come
25:02so we have one more day Juan is coming to remove all the popcorn from the dining room family room
25:11kitchen and we're also going to start the remodel on the primary bathroom we've got a couple of our
25:18pirate friends coming back why don't we pop the drywall off and then we'll get the frame how's that sound

25:47you can do this the whole wall's coming out yeah this one's coming loose we've got more wires
25:55uh-oh oh you said this wasn't hot bad so the drywall was a lot of fun I don't think

26:13all right we also removed the defunct to microwave and the oven love it
26:21and we put a first coat on the bottom kitchen cupboards so today was a good day overall we got
26:28a lot done the team that we had here today was pushing hard and without their hard work we've never
26:34would have gotten as far as we did today yeah we're ahead of schedule we like it or at least
26:38on schedule and we do it again another day we have to figure out this bathroom we are in town
26:52trying to
26:53get the primary bathroom put together we're anxious to get started on that I want to show you some floor
26:59samples oh great what do you got the primary bathroom flooring we were choosing between a real
27:06tile and luxury vinyl plank this is a porcelain tile and then we go back to a luxury vinyl type
27:15thing this
27:17one matches the vanity top it's got the veining in it I gotta be honest with you if we're gonna
27:22do the whole floor I like having something through it instead of just a stark white it's a stark white
27:28that feels too much
27:29too uh resort hotel-y how much more would this be I think it's almost double all right wonderful this
27:37makes a lot more sense let's go for it all right we like the luxury vinyl plank that one you
27:42can piece
27:43together easy we can install it ourselves without hiring anybody so this is our first option and I love
27:51it gorgeous that is nice yeah second option is a similar material it's a tongue and groove system
28:00totally waterproof I mean is this more expensive pricing on it comes out to be about the same per
28:06square foot it'll be light and bright and the vanity is gray as well yeah and I like the idea
28:11we kind of
28:12open this up let's keep it brighter and lighter you know we're trying to make it beachy let's go with
28:17this one then we're in this is gonna look great we decided to go with a vertical placement of it
28:23and
28:23it also is easy to install so we're anxious to get started on that nice today we're gonna go ahead

28:43put in the hall bathroom cabinet and the sink and we've got to redo the plumbing underneath yeah we
28:50have Juan and his assistant our subcontractor my realtor and designer friend Tiffany will be joining us
29:08I cut a nice angle on there so hopefully we'll be able to glue it on make it work we'll

29:15they're gonna start sanding the ceilings we're gonna do some exploratory taking walls out of the

30:53capacity but we got a lot more work but we're excited about it
31:08okay so this one I'll have to trim just a little bit off less than half an inch today I'm
31:14going to be
31:14laying in four planks in our first bedroom which is something I've actually not done before but I've
31:20been looking at the videos and talking to folks that have we still have a little bit of a gap
31:23here
31:35so we can pull the refrigerator out and come from this end
31:38mm-hmm today I'm planning on working in the kitchen primarily remove some of the remaining backsplash
31:46moving the wall but you're not moving I just the eyebrow just broke the wall
31:50it's just hard to get behind it and take it off in one piece what what did you just do

33:32to come down here and help me with for a couple days what we're trying to do is dig out
33:37holes put in
33:39the first part of the framing there it is and pour concrete and that's what we got accomplished so I
33:51can then put posts and a roof on the back porch today Tiffany my designing partner and I are going

34:02tackle the backsplash we're going with a white mosaic subway tile I think it's going to look really
34:11well with the color we chose for the walls beautiful already oh okay a little electric shock going on

34:56and we're going to be doing some artistic crafty things
35:04today's job for Fran was putting together the shadow box with the oysters my friend Mickey who is a
35:11artist I had her do the lettering on the palette sign the major project was putting up the mural wallpaper
35:18my friend Diane assisted with that she picked it up right well and it went on like a dream okay

38:19and there was nothing on each side of it
38:20and Cindy came up with the idea of doing the shelving which is fantastic

38:28and here is the primary bedroom
38:30we didn't do much in here
38:32we love the color
38:33so we just decorated it so it feels more like the beach
38:36but this bathroom we did gut
38:39we did a lot of work in here

38:41when you came in here
38:43behind you Rochelle was a big closet
38:45that was all a closet
38:46wow
38:47there was a single sink over there
38:48on that side
38:49there was a single sink right here
38:50and another closet over here
38:53and this was an old bathtub
38:55and around the corner was the shower
38:58and we just decided to completely
38:59got this thing open it up
39:01do the double vanity
39:02Cindy came up with this whole idea for the shower
39:05this whole shower is pretty impressive

39:10it looks like fabric
39:11it's hard to believe that's a tile
39:13I love how you married the vintage and the modern together
39:16it really brings the beach look and everything
39:19we got a whole another half of the house to see

39:22in this family room
39:24there literally was a wall here
39:25with a little window opening
39:27a closet
39:28and a little archway here

39:30now it looks a little retro modern

39:34and the colors are great

39:46my favorite love is this butcher block
39:47that was a peninsula that had a two level
39:50with the black granite on it
39:52and I just had a dream of this butcher block

39:58and we had talked about replacing the countertops
40:01but once I got the backsplash
40:03I decided to go ahead and keep it
40:05save some money there
40:06I like it

40:08and it just kind of
40:09picks up all the colors
40:11with the color of the cabinets
40:13yeah
40:14and then even with the wood
40:15because you have the different grains in there
40:16and then what we did is
40:18adding the beadboard up on the soffit
40:20you did a great job
40:22bringing all the textures together
40:23from the facets on the knobs
40:27and the backsplash
40:29and then the pendant lighting

41:43is the house came out better than we had expected
41:45and I gotta say the more that we're spending time down here

41:59we just decided we didn't want to spend more than $50,000 on renovations
42:03so we decided we're going to go ahead and do a lot of the work ourselves
42:06we were able to stay within that budget of $50,000

42:12one of the best things about this whole thing is our friends
42:15they are completely stunned and amazed at what we've put together
