Rwanda's former first lady to appeal decision to reopen genocide probe against her

Rwanda's former first lady Agathe Habyarimana will appeal last week's ruling by a French court that overturned a 2025 decision to dismiss an investigation into her role in the 1994 genocide.

00:00Rwanda's former First Lady, Agat Habiyarimana, will appeal last week's ruling by a Paris court
00:06that overturned a 2025 decision to dismiss an investigation into her role in the 1994 genocide.
00:14The killing spree was triggered by the assassination of her husband,
00:19former Hutu President Juvenal Habiyarimana.
00:22Over 100 days, more than 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were brutally murdered.
00:29Now 83, Habiyarimana has been under investigation for complicity in the genocide since 2008.
00:37She's never been formally charged but has the status of an assisted witness,
00:42a French legal category between a witness and a defendant.
00:47Prosecutors allege that Habiyarimana led the Okazu, or inner circle, of Hutu power
00:53and played an active role in planning the massacres,
00:56drawing up lists of people to be executed.
