00:00I'm astonished that a party is behaving like this.
00:02Today we have West Treaty, I don't know if he authorised it or not, but briefing the
00:07times that he doesn't want to undermine the King's speech, but he wants people to know
00:12that tomorrow he's going to resign from the cabinet and trigger a leadership election,
00:17therefore probably undermining the King's speech.
00:19It's quite hard to say that those responsible are acting in the national interest, the government's
00:26interest, even West Treaty's interest.
00:28It's this sense of Westminster games and we kind of end up with the test of what a good
00:35politician is.
00:36When was the last time a minister resigned for failure in the health service or the schools
00:42or foreign policy?
00:43It's always some misstep in the Westminster village, or the herd has moved, or whatever
00:47it is.
00:49But it doesn't feel serious.
00:50But we've had endless ministerial resignations, we've had endless prime ministerial resignations.
00:55One of the reasons why we've got this polarisation and populism in the country is because people
01:00feel politics isn't about them.
01:03It's about politicians.
01:04It's about the Westminster village.
01:06It's about the game being played there.
01:08How do you think this is impacting how we're looking on the world stage at the moment?
01:13I think we're looking like Italy in the 1980s, you know, debt laden governments, going for
01:18a series of prime ministers, increasing instability, causing doubts for investors, doubts for allies,
01:26undermining our economy, undermining our security at a time of international domestic crisis.
01:33I think it's irresponsible.
01:34Do you think there is a remedy for the situation we're currently in?
01:38Well, I thought the remedy was having a government with a 165-seat working majority and a full
01:43five-year term, but apparently not.
01:45Well, I think there's a change around our år which may be, but we're looking so tofu-ass and
