00:06There's been a lot of talk lately that Marvel might be quietly building toward a solo project
00:11centered around the Angel of Death, which really means Archangel, and it could come into play
00:17during the Mutant saga after the big crossover events like Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars.
00:22And on top of that, there are rumors floating around that Idris Elba could be the one to play
00:27the character, which makes the whole idea even more interesting.
00:31If Marvel is actually planning something like this, it wouldn't just be a random side story,
00:36it would probably connect to a bunch of other projects they're setting up.
00:40So, it's worth breaking down what we know, what's rumored, and how it could all fit together.
00:45First, it really helps to understand who this Angel of Death really is,
00:49because the name can sound a bit confusing if you're not familiar with the comics.
00:53The character is actually Warren Kenneth Worthington III, one of the original members of the X-Men.
01:00He was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and he first appeared in the X-Men No. 1 back
01:05in 1963.
01:07So, he's not some new addition, he's been part of Marvel's history from the very beginning,
01:12even though he hasn't always been the most prominent character compared to others like Wolverine or Cyclops.
01:17In his early days, Warren went by the name Angel, which fits his original abilities and appearance.
01:24He's a mutant, which means he was born with special powers, and in his case,
01:29that power was a pair of large feathered wings that allowed him to fly.
01:34At first, his story was pretty straightforward, because he was basically a wealthy kid with a heroic side.
01:40He came from a powerful family, had access to a lot of resources, and decided to use his abilities to
01:47help people.
01:47But even though that sounds simple, his personality added some complexity,
01:52because he was often portrayed as a bit self-centered and disconnected from real struggles, especially in the earlier stories.
01:59But that version of the character didn't stay the same forever.
02:03Over time, especially during the late 1980s, Marvel took him in a much darker direction.
02:08This is where the Archangel transformation comes in, and it completely changes everything about him.
02:15Instead of feathered wings, he ends up with metallic wings that can fire razor-sharp projectiles,
02:20and his personality shifts into something much more serious and brooding.
02:25Because of that change, he starts to feel less like a classic superhero,
02:29and more like someone who's constantly dealing with inner conflict.
02:32That transformation is also why he's sometimes referred to as the Angel of Death,
02:38because his powers and overall presence become much more intense and dangerous.
02:43He's not just flying around saving people anymore, he's dealing with darker forces and making difficult choices.
02:50And that kind of story is exactly the type of thing Marvel has been leaning into lately,
02:55especially when it comes to characters who are more morally complicated.
02:59Now, when you connect this to the MCU, it starts to make more sense why Marvel might be interested in
03:05giving him a solo project.
03:06After Secret Wars, the expectation is that mutants will finally take center stage,
03:12and Marvel will need a bunch of different characters to build that world.
03:16Some of them will be obvious choices, but others, like Archangel, could bring something different.
03:22He's not just another hero, he's someone whose story involves transformation, identity, and loss,
03:28which fits well with the kind of storytelling Marvel has been exploring recently.
03:32And that's where the casting rumors come in, especially the idea of Idris Elba playing the role.
03:38Now, this isn't confirmed, but it's one of those rumors that keeps coming up because it actually makes sense in
03:43a lot of ways.
03:44Idris Elba already has experience in the MCU as Heimdall, but since that character's story has already been completed,
03:52there's room for him to return in a completely different role.
03:55And because Archangel is such a different type of character, it wouldn't feel repetitive.
04:00Elba has the kind of presence that could really work for Archangel,
04:04especially because the character needs to balance strength with a sense of internal struggle.
04:09He can play someone who feels powerful but also conflicted,
04:12and that's a big part of what makes Archangel interesting.
04:16Even though he has these incredible abilities, his story is often about what those powers have cost him.
04:21So, casting someone who can handle both the physical and emotional sides of the role is important.
04:27But beyond just a solo project, there's also the question of where else this character could appear.
04:33One of the more interesting possibilities is the rumored World War Hulk storyline that Marvel might be building toward.
04:40Even though nothing has been officially confirmed, there's been a lot of discussion about how Hulk-related projects could expand
04:47in the future.
04:48And in the comics, Archangel has crossed paths with Hulk during major events,
04:53which means there's already a foundation for that connection.
04:56If Marvel does go forward with a World War Hulk project, it would likely involve multiple characters coming together,
05:03because that story is usually on a much larger scale.
05:06So, bringing in someone like Archangel could add another layer to the conflict.
05:11Hulk stories often deal with destruction and uncontrollable power,
05:15and Archangel's story deals with control and transformation.
05:19Putting those two elements together could create something really compelling.
05:23Even though it might sound like a lot to juggle, Marvel has shown before that they can handle multiple storylines
05:29at once.
05:30They just need to make sure everything connects in a way that feels natural.
05:34So, instead of introducing Archangel in isolation,
05:37they could slowly build him up through appearances in other projects before giving him his own story.
05:42That approach would make his eventual solo project feel more meaningful,
05:46because audiences would already be familiar with him.
05:50There's also the possibility of seeing him show up in X-Men-related projects once mutants are fully introduced.
05:56As one of the original X-Men, he's naturally connected to that team,
06:00but instead of being just another member,
06:02he could have his own separate arc that runs alongside the main storyline.
06:07That way, he can interact with other characters while still maintaining his own identity.
06:11Looking back at previous adaptations, the character has appeared before, although not in a fully developed way.
06:19Ben Foster played him in X-Men The Last Stand,
06:22and Ben Hardy portrayed a younger version in X-Men Apocalypse.
06:26But in both cases, the character didn't get the depth that his comic story offers.
06:31So bringing him into the MCU would be a chance to finally explore that properly.
06:37And that's really the key point here.
06:39Archangel isn't just a side character, even though he's often been treated that way in movies.
06:44His story has a lot of layers, because it's about change, loss, and trying to figure out who you are
06:50after everything shifts.
06:52So if Marvel is planning a solo project for him, it wouldn't just be about action,
06:57it would also be about character development.
06:59At the same time, there's also the chance that these rumors don't lead to anything concrete.
07:05Marvel has a habit of exploring ideas that don't always make it to the screen,
07:09especially when they're still figuring out the direction of future phases.
07:13That's all we've got to say for today.
