00:01Aaron Pierre is here with us now good morning good morning good morning you're bringing a
00:06little joy to this studio really are I appreciate you you're bringing joy to me so it's a mutual
00:12transaction yes for sure okay so we've got so much to talk to you about now you said though
00:16recently I think I heard you say if you had a choice of anybody you wanted to play in the
00:22DC
00:22universe it would be Jon Stewart absolutely yes so why is this character so special to you
00:28I mean I think this character is so celebrated and championed and beloved internationally
00:35but speaking specifically about why I would choose Jon I think you know the list for that is not
00:42exhaustive but I would say the first things that come to mind is I love how his complexity is
00:51detailed I love how he has arguably seemingly juxtaposed things coexisting in one individual
01:00to me that is something that is very uh tangible and and relatable in a tangible way uh as humans
01:08yeah we are all complex we're we're not just one thing we're not uh one dimensional um and also
01:16another thing I love so much about Jon is that unlike many of his contemporaries he wasn't born
01:22with superpowers you know it's fundamentally he has a he has heart and that has what has led him
01:31to the point that he is today as the superhero and the you know the protector of he was just
01:36born
01:36without fear he was yeah he was he was he was born fearless and also he made a choice to
01:42continue
01:42to be fearless yeah um and and that's another thing that I love about the green lantern core
01:47you know I think uh it's relatable it's relatable for sure and and that's why I love it I I
01:54feel like
01:54the green lantern core is just full of rock stars and um and it's a it's a it's an honor
01:59and a privilege
01:59to be part of that unit I I love hearing you speak about that relatability because I think as you
02:05know we're all we're all kids growing up like we're all three superhero nerds but like I'm not
02:10going to get superpowers but that that relatability I think is what makes this character so special
02:14um something that I don't find relatable you had a serious injury you had surgery
02:20I did when you were going through the audition process I probably would have been like all
02:24right it's not my time now but you decided to go for it absolutely what would Jon do you know
02:29what I'm saying and and that's really not hyperbole that is that is really a thing that I thought
02:35you know um I had this injury uh you know sorry to the viewers who might find this uncomfortable
02:41but it was my my tendon separated from the bone entirely wow and my bicep retracted to my shoulder
02:47I won't give any more details on it but um you know I was I was I was you know
02:53I was in a position
02:53where I could either go into uh the the screen test where it was I think it was the final
02:59two or three
02:59whatever it was or not and for me there there was never a question there was never um an alternative
03:07to going in and giving my best um you know Jon he gets the job done and I wanted to
03:15uh emulate that
03:16in some way in my approach to the character um so that's what I did and and you know uh
03:21you know
03:22thank God we're here today we are here today James Gunn said uh when he first announced that you were
03:27going to be Green Lantern that he's always wanted to work with you he was going to cast you
03:31in the Marvel uh cinematic universe that's right he wanted you to play Adam Warlock now you get to
03:38play Green Lantern your dream character and you're going to be in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow
03:42what's it like to be part I know the Green Lantern Corps that's a big deal but also this universe
03:47of DC
03:48heroes oh it's it's a it's an immense joy and an immense privilege I think you know it's it's it's
03:55a dream
03:55realized you know and I think um I speak about gratitude a lot um but it's because for me that
04:05is
04:05such a core uh value and characteristic I think it's so uh critical to be fundamentally grateful I
04:13think it presents itself in uh if not all the vast majority of your actions day to day and just
04:19you know
04:19to be uh Jon Stewart to be part of the Green Lantern Corps the DC cinematic universe it's just it's
04:27just
04:27amazing but you're also going to be in the Star Wars universe you're going to be yeah I mean right
04:35he's living in abundance right what oh man the blessings are plenty I'm grateful no it's it's I mean we
04:41we we had a blast filming there we we had such a blast Sean Levy is just he's amazing yep
04:48Ryan Gosling
04:49golden and the world that they create for the actors on set is unlike anything you will have experienced
05:00you know like the you are like you are the what we've not experienced before we're so happy to see
05:06you as Jon Stewart I as somebody who's been reading Green Lantern comics my whole life uh in brightest
05:11day in blackest night no evil shall escape my sight let those who worship evil's might beware my power
05:19Green Lantern's light Aaron Pierre thank you Lanterns debuts next Sunday
