00:00Shortly after 11 p.m., Frontier Flight 4345 reported striking a person during takeoff at Denver International Airport.
00:11Emergency crews responded to the scene.
00:15One person was struck by the plane and ultimately died.
00:20The person climbed over an approximately 8-foot perimeter fence topped with barbed wire.
00:27The person came over the fence at 11.13 p.m. and was hit by the aircraft just two minutes
00:37later at 11.15 p.m. while crossing runway 17 left.
00:44231 souls were on board the flight and 12 people reported minor injuries and five of those were transported to
00:53local hospitals.
00:54We have heard that four of those five have since been released.
01:00We have positively and scientifically identified the decedent as 41-year-old male, Michael Mott.
01:07Following an on-scene investigation, a post-mortem examination, we have determined that the cause and manner of death,
01:13or we have determined the cause and manner of death.
01:16The cause of death is multiple blunt and sharp force injuries.
01:19The manner of death is suicide.
01:22I want to take a moment to acknowledge the news of this nature can be very painful for the decedent's

01:27for witnesses, and for any members of our community.

01:37second only to the airport in Saudi Arabia.
01:41Security officers and Denver police patrol the airfield regularly.
01:47We have closed-circuit television monitoring on our runways.
01:52We have a ground-based radar system that monitors our fence line and identifies and captures video and thermal imaging.
02:02Last Friday night, the ground detection sensors set off an alarm at this location at 11.10.
02:10DEN's operator on duty reviewed the alarm and identified a herd of deer just outside of the perimeter fence,
02:21very near to where the incident occurred.
02:24They did not initially see the trespasser.
02:29The camera view was alternating between the wildlife and the individual.
02:35There are some ditches in the area, so the person was out of view for a bit as well.
02:42And then just minutes later, we were alerted by the FAA of the person being hit.
