00:03ahead of the 2026 men's world cup and alongside the 2025 women's euros fifa launched the third
00:11edition of its elite performance coach mentorship program in zurich the 18-month program matches
00:18highly experienced coaches with those closer to the start of their coaching journey you know
00:24there's still um a large discrepancy in the number of females going into coaching and i think it's
00:30important that we you know try and balance that out in terms of trying to encourage more females
00:36to explore coaching as a profession um you know when i was coming through there was not a whole
00:41lot of role models in in in the women's game in terms of females in coaching now we see more
00:46and
00:46more we see successful coaches on the female side but i still think there are um hurdles
00:54for for females to to overcome to to pursue a career in coaching so i think here at fifa you
01:00know what our job should be and is is to try and mitigate some of those barriers you know whether
01:05it's um sort of a financial issue in terms of applying for coaching licenses whether it's an
01:11awareness issue whether it's a support issue i think we should look at all the different ways
01:16that we can try and minimize the number of obstacles i think if we want to increase the number of
01:21females
01:21in coaching we we you know we have to be intentional in what we do and that's creating programs um
01:27you
01:27know such as our coaching mentorship program so you know here's a program where you know we bring in
01:33experienced coaches from the female game and we partner them with young mentees young females that
01:39are coming through the game and you know i think one of the things that you know i've said a
01:43lot is
01:43um you know coaching can be very much an island and there isn't a natural support mechanism
01:51the mentors include current national team coaches desiree ellis from south africa
01:56joe montemuro of australia and angelo marsiglia from colombia
02:03among the young coaches is former germany international midfielder melanie behringer
02:08who won both the world cup and an olympic gold medal with her country i'm a young coach
02:15um yeah and i think i need even in some situation when i have questions i can ask him and
02:21that's for
02:21me yeah it's very good for me to help me i think that is so important because sometimes when when
02:27you're
02:28a coach it can be a lonely position and you will need to have outside um references that that you
02:36can help
02:36and you can lean on in in those moments and i think this is an excellent opportunity to build those
02:42networks uh it's also a really good tool to use for your own self development uh and reaching your
02:52own personal goals and getting the tools in order to to do so i wish i had this i did
02:58a lot of mistakes
02:59as a young coach overconfident and stupid and if i had a mentor at my time which was not normal
03:07uh some
03:08years ago i would avoid a lot of big errors i did in my career so yes i think this
03:16is a good opportunity
03:17especially for young female coaches because sometimes they have a harder route to high performance
03:22coaching than men so i think for them to have a an opportunity to be in such a supportive environment
03:30i think that's really good for them
