00:06I'm 50-50. That thing is so loud.
00:11I found her.
00:2637.2. 37.2 trillion.
00:30That is the number of cells that make up Homo sapiens.
00:33Homo sapiens would be you, a human.
00:35In Latin, this means wise man.
00:38Why I mention the Latin definition? Eh, who knows.
00:41A shallow attempt to sound educated, clever.
00:44It has nothing to do with this brief vignette.
00:46The number of cells, however, does.
00:49So, with that amount of cells, there is bound to be deviations, differences.
00:53Being similar or the same, well, that is just boring,
00:57and would give us nothing to talk about.
01:01So let's talk. Let's talk about this human, Carissa Kinani-Moore.
01:06RIS.
01:07Let's talk about what makes her different.
01:08Not special, just different.
01:10Because remember, like your third grade teacher told you
01:13while handing over a participant trophy?
01:15We're all special.
01:17When asked what she does, she generally says in a mild, happy tone.
01:21In a mild, happy tone?
01:22I'm a professional surfer.
01:23I'm a professional surfer.
01:25I'm a professional surfer.
01:26I'm a professional surfer.
01:26It sounds so weird.
01:27Just weird.
01:31I'm a professional surfer.
01:33Great, which in my opinion is a vast f***ing understatement.
01:36She is a three times world champion.
01:38The youngest ever and a young lady whose rhythm...
01:44Yeah, I'll call it rhythm.
01:47Her rhythm has helped define where we are today.
01:49By we, I mean surfing.
01:51And by define, I mean this.
01:54T脚 out.
02:01T脚 out.
02:02T Step.
02:12T step.
02:25as a side note the vast majority of surfers out there don't do this they might think they are but
02:31no they are not for those of you who don't surf and that is a shitload of you here is
02:38six-year-old
02:38carissa explaining how she talks about the wetsuit the leash the board but the most important part
02:45how to catch a wave so you need to be right in the middle of like right about here and
02:52then you can
02:52start paddle for the wave and then when you caught the wave quickly stand up with your right foot back
03:01and your left foot front let's rewind a little the writing of waves has likely existed since
03:09humans began swimming in the ocean standing up on what is now called a surfboard is a relatively
03:14recent innovation developed by the Polynesians the influences for modern surfing can be directly
03:22traced to the surfers of pre-contact Hawaii fast forward a couple hundred years and in modern
03:28Hawaii Carissa Moore is born she would dance and sing and slide she had a flair for the dramatic
03:34then all of this happened
03:48it's a perfect 10 women's world surf league champion
03:52her time in Carissa Moore's career she's proved to be the best surfer in the world
04:01it has not been an easy road
04:05the details of which we will not disclose in this brief biopsy
04:08but like all of us we grow we learn and develop a set of values
04:13a code of sorts that we live by Carissa refers to this as
04:17more aloha what is more aloha you may ask even if you didn't ask a somewhat analytical surfer feels
04:24the urge to tell you it's a common misconception that the word aloha is simply a greeting a way to
04:29say hello or goodbye in Hawaiian culture it is more than this it is a way of living and treating
04:34each
04:34other with love and respect its deep meaning starts by teaching us to love ourselves first and then to
04:39spread that love to others so I guess more aloha means more love means more love just simply more
04:44love I feel like the trophies the accolades all those things are awesome but they're
04:50really short-lived they're only temporary and what really matters is how you make
04:53people feel and the love that you share if I was to like put it in one word it
04:57meant life like it just it reads so much life into me do you want me to go into
05:01the three pillars just about to get there Riss this is Carissa's crew well the more
05:06aloha crew aside from throwing mean shakas they are part of more aloha Carissa's
05:11non-profit where she inspires young girls to follow their dreams be authentic and make time
05:16for others I can hear you mumbling well that sounds like a bunch of self-absorbed mumbo jumbo
05:22of vanilla surface level cliche which is grounded in nothing more than fairy dust and nursery rhymes
05:27well if that is the case imagine Riss is your fairy godmother and you're getting tucked into bed
05:34now shut the hell up and enjoy the ride blow my mind blow my mind blow my mind blow my
05:43I found a potion for fix and passion go tell your homegirls get their reaction hot on the ocean
05:59her satisfaction go tell your homegirls what's their reaction
06:10this is an exploration into the fairy tale three brief vignettes captured in 2019 during the world
06:17title race you want me to say something about this being a dream tour and that leads into the first
06:28section okay a cherished aspiration ambition or ideal this is the definition of a dream well at least the
06:37one we follow for a young Carissa hers was simple I want to be a pro surfer so that I
06:43can travel the
06:44world with my board and that's that's really what I want to do just enjoy surfing it go surfing around
06:52the
06:52world with some of the girls now I bet you are asking what does this dream really look like is
06:58it just slow motion lifestyle footage captured on the set of a tropical paradise a slow walk on a long
07:05pier the thoughtful look beyond the bow of the boat smiles waves friends brews bros and sisterhood the
07:14great outdoors a utopia with little responsibility or consequence or or could it be something else something
07:23different
07:25so it starts on the gold coast of Australia then bells bali west oz rio jay bay america france
07:32portugal hawaii do we only have nine events
07:35there are only nine events did i count it wrong oh no no because there's a couple events in australia
07:40that's why and i was like nine there's only nine 150 150 days on the world approximately 150 days
07:48in the world 30 flights crossing 88 times 117 hours of airtime 70 000 air miles excess baggage so much
07:57excess baggage hotels b&bs homestays car hires insurance taxis jet lag signings taxis jet lag signings 300
08:06signatures a year a lot of selfies very uncomfortable selfies like when they hold you too close and
08:11you're just like space bro no one's gonna touch me from now on when they see this they're gonna be
08:17like oh she doesn't like to be touched every year that you can imagine or maybe a month out of
08:21the
08:21whole year i wouldn't surf i wake up at 5 30 a.m go to bed around 9 9 30
08:26p.m your eight best results
08:28are tallied together at the end of the year and the world champion is decided based on cumulative points
08:33oh and this year there's the olympic factor that's a crazy list bro no shit so why is this your
08:41dream
08:41again for me it's given me something so positive to put all my energy into when you're achieving your
