Unrecoverable - that's how Gillingham and Rainham MP Naushaba Khan described the Prime Minister's position less than a day after she resigned from his government.

She is one of dozens of Labour MPs calling time on Sir Keir Starmer.

Local Democracy Reporter Ollie Leader asked the people of Gillingham what they think should happen to their PM.

00:00Side by side, a unified front at the Gillingham Stadium that now feels like ancient history.
00:07It was only two years ago when the Shahaba Khan was helping launch the Labour campaign with Sakhir Starmer.
00:15Now she's resigned from his government following a set of dire local election results
00:21where Labour lost thousands of councillors across the country.
00:26Unfortunately, I do not think that the Prime Minister's position is recoverable.
00:32And rightly or wrongly, he has lost the trust of the British public.
00:36You know, I don't think changing leader is a magic bullet that will fix all problems that we might be
00:42presented with.
00:43I'm not suggesting that. And I do recognise that there is a level of risk when you do something like
00:49this.
00:49And I recognise the potential instability it can cause.
00:52But I think it's something we have to do if we want to do what's right for this country.
00:57Nishabha Khan is just one of dozens of MPs calling for fresh leadership in Number 10.
01:03But what do her constituents think in the town centre?
01:07The local MPs called for the Prime Minister to go. Do you think he should go?
01:12Yes. 100%. 100%.
01:14Why is that?
01:15Because I don't think he's done Britain any good at all.
01:20No, I think he should stay where he is. I don't support that, Tom.
01:26On the border?
01:28Yeah, the country has been under a horrible situation for a long time.
01:32And nobody can repair it in one day, so he needs more time.
01:36Do you remember what he said about Boris Johnson when he was messing around?
01:42He should resign, he should resign. So why does he take his own words and resign?
01:46Khan's not the only Kent MP calling for Starmer to go, with Folkestone's Tony Vaughan joining a chorus of voices
01:57calling for change.
01:59But so far, Kent's other MPs have held the line, with Dover MP Mike Tapp and Gravesham MP Lauren Sullivan
02:07throwing their weight behind the Prime Minister.
02:11Internal division is a big fear, as one MP summed up privately, it's stability and delivery for me.
02:19If Starmer was to go now, he'd be the fourth Prime Minister to leave their post in as many years.
02:27Medway mutiny or not, he's going to have a challenge holding on to the keys to number 10.
02:33Oli Lieder in Gillingham.
