00:00I always try to open my schedule for Chelsea just because she's just so loyal to me and
00:04her energy is so amazing when she comes into my house so it just doesn't even feel like
00:07I'm doing nails.
00:08You're gonna make me cry, that's really sweet of you.
00:10I never thought about that, I've never texted you if I'm unavailable, she squeezes me in
00:14every single time.
00:15Because I know she can't be without her nails.
00:17Right, right.
00:17There's some girls that can go without it for a little bit but Chelsea, I know she's
00:20always busy, always shooting, so it's just like I can't have her out there looking like
00:24anything.
00:25Yeah.
00:30Hi everyone, my name is Sarah Tan and I am Refinery29's Global Beauty Director and
00:35today I'm here with Chelsea Lesconi, the breakout star of Selling Sunset.
00:39We're also here with her talented nail artist, Panika Sim, and we have Alia Perez who has done
00:45my nails a few times before, she's incredible and she's gonna give me some pink glittery heart
00:52designs today.
00:53Let's see what inspires Chelsea's signature nail style.
00:58Okay Chelsea, tell me about your signature nail style and like how you decided this was
01:05going to be your look.
01:05I love long nails but I wear like a variation of outfits, so I wanted something as simple
01:11as possible but not just like the regular, short, natural French tip.
01:16So what I do is like, it's called a deep smile line French tip.
01:20French tip starts like basically here and goes all the way deep, it's like a very sexy
01:25kind of French.
01:26I will do a French every once in a while but you have to find the right person to do
01:30it.
01:31Because it needs to be like perfect.
01:33Exactly, so Alia was saying she does the nails of the man who invented the French manicure.
01:39Back then it was with a pencil underneath your natural nail and he decided to do a polish
01:44and from polish it was like gel and it just kept going bigger and bigger.
01:46How would you say your beauty style has changed since starting selling Sunset till now?
01:53Now I can't stand anything embellished.
01:54I try to stay with whites, blacks, grays and then anything that's muted.
02:00I've got about a hundred platforms in my closet.
02:02I don't like platforms anymore.
02:04I don't even like shoes that are more than four inches.
02:07Look, this is what I'm wearing right now.
02:08I'm wearing like a little blindfold, kitten heel.
02:12But it's very classic.
02:13I love it.
02:13Barely wear lashes, don't do any eyeshadow anymore.
02:16Definitely don't do a cut crease.
02:17People are like, oh my god, what did you do with your eyes?
02:19She must have gotten her eyes done.
02:21She must have gotten her eyes done.
02:22She had a black.
02:23I'm like girls.
02:24No, I was born like this, sorry.
02:26But thank you.
02:27Seeing my kids and seeing how beautiful my children are,
02:32I've found so much more like respect and love for my beauty and my parents
02:37for like the little things that I didn't really appreciate going up.
02:40My son, he's like, mommy, we have the same nose, we have the same hair,
02:45when you're not wearing your wig.
02:47He thinks I'm the most beautiful woman in the world.
02:51Yeah.
02:51And, he literally thinks he's like, you're so beautiful.
02:56You have faced some criticism on how you dress on the show.
03:02How do you handle those critiques?
03:05When my outfit was criticized because I thought we were all on the same page.
03:08Like you're expressing yourself.
03:10I thought we all knew that, you know, we're hired here because we're luxury real estate agents,
03:14but we're hired also because we have this big creative outlet that we use the platform to showcase.
03:20I took it personally and it was really sad, but at the same time, it doesn't move me creatively.
03:25I'm still always going to express myself.
03:27As a black woman, there is a standard for me and to whom much is given, much is expected,
03:32and I'm happy with the person I am and I think my younger 16-year-old chocolate self would be
03:39proud
03:40of me because a lot of the things I'm doing and I've done, I never thought I'd see someone like
03:45me
03:45doing them, so I hope other people see that too.
03:49Chelsea, Panika, you guys don't usually see each other in full glam like this.
03:54No, never.
03:54What is it usually like?
03:56No makeup, something super comfy.
03:58I'm wearing some Uggs and I've always got a hat on because I'm not doing my hair.
04:03Do I look like a different person right now?
04:05No, you're always beautiful.
04:06No, literally, she's so beautiful.
04:08She comes like at nighttime when it's about to be bedtime, literally 8 o'clock, 8.30, 9 o'clock
04:13maybe.
04:13I'll be in my pajamas.
04:15I feel like you look your best with nothing.
04:17Aw, thank you.
04:18You know, I feel like that's when I really appreciate someone's beauty.
04:21No makeup, but that's like, that's the best.
04:23No makeup, just Clarins Lip Oil.
04:26Is that like your must have?
04:27It's my must have.
04:29My Clarins Lip Stain and Clarins Lip Oil.
04:31Okay.
04:32What is the process in achieving this very specific French fanny?
04:36You guys watch Selling Sunset, she will always have French tips.
04:40They have to be this length and they're coughing, so there's a certain length.
04:43And then the base is very important, so it's really difficult to find the right base for like,
04:48someone that's dark as tongue.
04:50I went on a mission to find this color, guys.
04:52Like, I FaceTimed her.
04:54I sent her pictures.
04:55I'm like, is this the color?
04:56And she was like, I think it is.
04:58And so this is, I think she has this in her purse right now.
05:02Oh my god, I do have it in my purse!
05:03So she gave it to me and I just know that if I, for whatever reason, lose a nail,
05:09which literally never happens, or I get my nail chips, I have my base.
05:13That's the only thing I need.
05:14So I have this brush that I use to help me guide with Chelsea's French tip that she really
05:19likes to get that deep smile line.
05:20And we just basically wipe the sides down and it always comes out perfect every time.
05:25And she's always happy with it.
05:28What has your life been like since filming season eight?
05:31Last year was the hardest year of my life.
05:34Like, without a shadow of a doubt, there's nothing that comes close to how hard last year was to me.
05:38Since last year and since filming, things have been really good.
05:43I've kind of got myself in a good mind space.
05:45I'm like, really happy again.
05:46I'm at peace.
05:47So things are very different because now, obviously, like, you know, I'm by myself.
05:52Are we dating?
05:53We're not not dating.
05:55Okay.
05:55Okay, I'll take that.
05:56If someone comes in to my world and our worlds, like, match and we just make each other happy
06:04and make each other's, like, lives better and we want to spend time together, then I'm down for that.
06:09But I'm not actively pursuing it at all.
06:12How do you maintain female friendships with other people who you work with?
06:18Those relationships kind of just happened organically over time.
06:22We've been really close for years now.
06:24You know, those are my sisters.
06:25Like, more than anything, the office is like a place where I work.
06:29Yeah.
06:29You just keep it professional.
06:31Yeah, it's a place where I work and we try to.
06:34It's a place where I work.
06:34What do you girls do when you're not filming and just hanging out?
06:38So we usually go to the spa or we get a dinner.
06:41When I say dinner, we get a dinner at like 5 p.m.
06:43I mean, I'll speak for myself.
06:44I'm not half as cool as the person you see on the show.
06:46We don't dress up to go out together as girls.
06:50We always just hang out like just looking ratty, rat mode.
06:54What is the biggest misconception do you think that fans have of you?
06:58It's just like the never-ending bank account full of money that we could buy like Gucci with
07:04and Chanel with and it's really not like that.
07:07Some of the clothes are gifted to us, you know, the clothes that are not gifted to us.
07:11We've spent like weeks of working to be able to afford them or we're always super, super glam
07:17and sometimes you don't even know if we're not getting our hair and makeup done.
07:20We're spending like two, three hours in the mirror because we're not makeup artists trying to make it like perfect
07:25because we want the audience to look at us like everything looks put together.
07:29It's very stressful and the same way like you see that little Marc Jacobs or Chanel or Alaya bag
07:37but you want and you think about it for two months before you pull the trigger, I do too.
07:41You just see it on Selling Sunset on a big platform when you think,
07:45oh my gosh, these girls must have everything.
07:47No, we have the same like five, six bags that we just love and we take care of and we
07:52bring them out
07:52when we're filming and then when we're not filming go back into the little dust bag.
07:56I think that's the biggest misconception that you see us on the big screen and you think
08:00we have it all when we're just like works in progress.
08:03Can we talk about the real estate landscape?
08:06You know, obviously there are all these fires in LA.
08:10What have you or the Oppenheim Group done to help displaced families or people looking for homes?
08:16The Oppenheim Group, Jason's amazing because he allowed us to offer anyone that wants to be
08:24rehomed or find a new home and working with us, we will waive our commission.
08:30So anyone that's lost their homes or been displaced and is looking to lease or find somewhere,
08:35we will actively find you a new place to live and we will not charge you for it.
08:39I'm not from here and to think about like the destruction that's taken place,
08:44you kind of feel like you have to give back.
08:47Chelsea, when in your career was the first time you've ever felt seen or understood?
08:52There's never been like, uh-huh, they get me.
08:55Yeah.
08:55Never had that.
08:56But I think it's really nice that the more and more I show of myself,
09:03the more and more people are like, you don't have to be any one way, you know?
09:09I feel like a lot of people that I connect with online or meet in person,
09:14they find something that they've seen in me that they resonate with.
09:19Maybe not as a whole, but, oh, I saw your cooking and I love that.
09:22I love when you made that.
09:23Oh, you sold this property, my uncle did that.
09:25I don't set out to, like, inspire anybody.
09:29I just really try to be myself authentically and hopefully it connects.
09:34Your cooking is sexy.
09:35Is that intentional or you're just like, this is my vibe?
09:39It's so hard to answer that question because I don't want to be like,
09:42well, guys, look at me.
09:44Have you never seen me?
09:46I swear, that's not it.
09:48I've always been somebody that's really leaned into my femininity,
09:52you know, from my nails to my hair to my makeup to the way I dress.
09:56I think femininity is my most powerful tool.
10:00Anyone that I've ever been with will probably say to you,
10:03I cooked for them the first time I met them.
10:05The way I cook in real life is the way you kind of see me cooking.
10:10Obviously, minus the slow-mo environment.
10:12What's your favorite thing to cook?
10:13I love Asian cuisine.
10:15It's my favorite cuisine in the world, other than my own culture,
10:18which is Nigerian.
10:18I make an amazing shaolin bao.
10:20That's impressive.
10:21It's not really something that you can post makes
10:24and still have the same effect.
10:25So I made it.
10:26I learned how to make it.
10:27It's my favorite thing to make.
10:28What is your dream self-care day?
10:30So I'd start it with like a forearm massage, like deep tissue.
10:34I want to be incapacitated after.
10:36We're going to go to the Beverly Hills Mabel.
10:40Then we're going to go to Il Pastayo and get some more pasta.
10:43I love me a four-mile or face gym.
10:46And then I go home.
10:47I'll be in a nice Soho home plush robe.
10:51And then I would put on my LED face mask because I'm obsessed with it.
10:57Okay, so let's see the reveal.
11:01Beautiful.
11:02Perfect.
11:03I love that you went a little bit out of your comfort zone.
11:05I did.
11:06I did something different.
11:08You know, added a little bit of spice.
11:10I think, are you manifesting this for my love life?
11:12Because why I got so many hearts?
11:14Yes.
11:14This is out of my comfort zone as well.
11:16Ooh.
11:16But I think it's fun.
11:17That's different for texture.
11:18Yes.
11:19I like that.
11:20I feel like these need to be press on, like designs.
11:22Like they're so, so cute.
11:24That's a wrap.
11:25I feel like we both are in love with our nails.
11:28Thank you so much for coming on and sharing, you know, your story and being so vulnerable with us.
11:32This was so much fun.
11:34Let's do it again.
11:36Thank you, Panika.
11:37Thank you, Aaliyah.
11:38Thanks for watching full set.
