00:04Your mother is from Samal, Bataan.
00:08Do you see your relatives every time you come?
00:10Not every time.
00:11Not every time.
00:12Yeah, not every time.
00:12But have you been there?
00:13Yes, I have.
00:14Yeah, I've been there, and it's, like I said, my grandma,
00:17she would always make food when I go there,
00:20and just kind of, you know, open the home to, like, sleep over,
00:23and it's really, like, nice to just go and see where I'm,
00:26where my roots are from.
00:27Are you going, are they going to watch your concert?
00:29Yes.
00:30Lola is going to go and watch your concert.
00:31Yes.
00:32I'm so excited.
00:33That's really nice.
00:34Yeah.
00:35Jessica, just tell me if you don't understand,
00:39but when it comes to a trait, characteristic,
00:42what is Pinoy about you?
00:45Mmm, I feel like there's a lot of Filipino traits
00:48and tendencies that I do have.
00:50I do, like, the Filipino squat a lot.
00:53Or when I eat, I have, like, one leg up on the chair, yes.
00:58Sometimes I do.
00:59Like, when I was younger, my grandmother would, you know, have me eat with my hands,
01:03so sometimes I have the habit of just, like, eating with my hands.
01:06Pinoy, you know?
01:07Sometimes.
01:08Yeah, very, very Pinoy traits.
01:1020th anniversary of America's Got Talent.
01:13Yeah.
01:13You were there, buntis.
01:15Do you understand?
01:16You were pregnant.
01:17Yes.
01:17How challenging was that?
01:19Oh, immensely challenging.
01:20Yeah, I actually don't know how I did that.
01:24I think it was the Lord's hand on me that helped me bring out the voice.
01:28Or maybe my daughter was kicking out the notes because it was very hard.
01:32What were you told?
01:33Is it harder to sing when you're pregnant?
01:35I think I've heard that it depends on certain people.
01:39Okay.
01:39For me, she was right up against my diaphragm, so I really, usually, you know, I could sing,
01:45you know, a concert worth of songs and be good.
01:47When I was on AGT, I could literally only sing one song and be done because it was so
01:53much breath that I had to kind of find in my body.
01:56What has motherhood done to you?
02:01Oh, it's changed me completely.
02:03I know.
02:03My mindset, the way that I love, the way that I, you know, spend my time.
02:09My daughter means everything to me.
02:11She is my world.
02:12And I would give anything up for her, you know, my career, everything that I've worked
02:15for.
02:16I just, I want to be the best example for her.
02:18And I think that's why I did AGT, you know, to kind of be an example for her to keep
02:23fighting
02:24for her dreams.
02:24Yeah.
02:25And it really changes your whole perspective about, like, how, are you raising her similarly
02:32or differently from the way you were raised by your parents?
02:36Yes.
02:36Especially your Filipino mother?
02:37Yes.
02:38So I am Filipino-Mexican, but I feel like I...
02:40That's right.
02:40Yes.
02:41Yeah.
02:41But, you know, my grandma, I was always like at the Filipino parties.
02:45I think I was a lot more in touch with my Filipino culture growing up because of my
02:49grandparents.
02:50So, you know, my daughter's still six months old.
02:53She's still kind of young, but I'm excited to have her here in the Philippines for the
02:57first time.
02:57And I hope that, you know, I can slowly start teaching her, you know, some of the Filipino
03:02culture, even, you know, while she's here.
03:04At six months, do you actually get indications that she's going to go into music?
03:10Does she hum?
03:11Oh, my gosh.
03:12You know what?
03:13I just...
03:13I did a video on Instagram of singing Risk It All by Bruno Mars, and she was not letting
03:18me sing.
03:18She just kept shouting.
03:19I think she wanted to do a duet.
03:21I think she wanted to sing with me.
03:23Okay.
03:24She's just going to go into that.
03:26I know.
