00:00One of the most heart-wrenching moments in the episode is towards the end in the bar
00:03where your character starts praising Richie and then kind of tearing into him.
00:10Look at him. He's going to be a dad. Look at him.
00:12Look at him. That's going to be a father.
00:13That kid's going to end up abandoned and alone just like he was.
00:18I'm curious where you think that turn comes from
00:20because up until that, he seems to be very loving towards Richie
00:22and then it's almost as if he's trying to deflect his own failures.
00:27You know, what he lays out with...
00:30You know, share it with Marin, you know, in the bathroom is really kind of it.
00:34It's how his mind works.
00:36And, you know, the whole kind of arc for the story for the episode was pretty simple.
00:40You know, you got like these two friends making this trip.
00:43One guy is in a great mood and optimistic.
00:45The other guy is like, you know, in a really dark and kind of crappy place
00:49and he lifts the other guy up and then they're in this sort of like kind of place in bliss.
00:53But, you know, there is all this stuff going on underneath.
00:56These feelings of jealousy, these feelings of resentment,
00:59these feelings of uncontrollable doubt and hopelessness, these feelings of darkness.
01:03This guy that was supposed to be, you know, larger than life and had this like magnetic smile
01:08and had it was an incredible storyteller and the kind of guy whose loss would have such a huge impact
01:13to be able to show these other sides.
01:15And then this, you know, it's like we've seen his ugliness.
01:19Like we've seen his, we've seen it pop, we've seen the damage, we've seen the depth of his love,
01:25we've seen the depth of his despair.
01:27This was a real opportunity to, you know, really dig into the wound.
01:30Mike's talking about fatherhood in that moment and about Richie's ability as a father.
01:34And we know so much about Sugar and Carmi and Mike and Donna and the, you know,
01:39and Uncle Jimmy and the whole street.
01:42It's like we know the whole neighborhood that the bear takes place in,
01:45except for one, there's this one black box and that's their father, you know,
01:48and we don't know much about him at all.
01:50But, you know, make you imagine.
