00:25and she left saturday evening about 9 30 10 o'clock she went over to mobile to visit somebody
00:33and she wasn't back yesterday i've called about eight or ten times the phone's going to voicemail
00:42what's her name it's tanny wedgworth what is she driving it's a 2004 f-150 ford
00:52pick up never two children with me so she left the kids yeah this is not like her i will
01:01get an
01:02officer out to speak to you fairhope police want to know if you've seen this woman tammy wedgworth
01:08hasn't been seen since saturday night when she left her house in fairhope headed to mobile
01:13the 44 year old was driving a white f-150 if you know where she is you're asked to call
01:19police in
01:20fairhope five days into the search fairhope police find tammy's truck outside a house in mobile
01:33but the question remains where is tammy wedgworth
01:44for homicide detectives their chance of solving a murder is cut in half if they don't get a lead
01:51within the first 48 hours
02:02the missing person from fairhope she's been missing now for five days
02:11as soon as she was reported missing fairhope pd did the basics in a missing person investigation
02:17that when it got her cell phone history it showed the phone died in mobile and so once they had
02:23that
02:24they felt this was definitely something that mobile police needed to investigate
02:28it then falls on my shoulders we're still hoping for the best but we need to treat this as a
02:34possible
02:35homicide at this point
02:42fairhope investigator joshua crier and sergeant david hall will hand the case over to barton
02:49we hate that we brought this one across the bay to you tammy wedgworth she was reported on monday
02:5844 year old tammy battaglia wedgworth is a single mother of three sons
03:04two under the age of 13. for the last year she found work cleaning houses to make ends meet
03:14on monday you know i talked to the father-in-law he's like this is out of character you know
03:20she
03:20goes and sees friends she does go on dates but she always returns that night early the next morning he
03:27said now i can't even reach her the phone just goes straight to voicemail friends saying hey this is
03:31out of character if she was going to be one minute late she would call this this is not right
03:36she has
03:37no criminal histories no drug use no mental health aspects to her life that seem out of place
03:45then they send me the cryptic sounding facebook post just six hours after tammy left home a message
03:52was posted on her facebook page her mom screenshotted it and sent it
03:59like that doesn't seem like something that she would do the post on facebook was 3 28 in the morning
04:07investigator crier reached out to miss tammy's bank the card had been utilized twice over in mobile
04:15here's a copy of the receipt her card was used at a sex shop in mobile the day after she
04:21went missing
04:22and then this is a copy of the video from nt lingerie okay
04:29the outside cameras showed miss tammy's vehicle pull up
04:35xing the vehicles a male and a female
04:40this female here does not appear to be tammy
04:45the couple tries to use tammy's credit card but the clerk asks for id
04:51you'll be able to see and retrieve the uh
04:56you can tell he's digging for something and then he comes in and he hands her the card
05:03your identification of these two people using still images from the sex shop video
05:10cryer compared the couple's faces to mugshots from an alabama statewide database
05:15i sat there with them and they started running mug shots through the system they first got us amanda
05:22miller's and the miller profile 35 year old amanda miller has a prior conviction for theft of property
05:30they started going through her facebook account found the picture found the picture of them two
05:35together with him wearing that same hat scanning through his facebook account actually found his
05:41mother's mother's host who referred to him as kenneth
05:4935 year old kenneth colbert has prior convictions for assault theft of property
05:53and manufacturer of a controlled substance
05:57we was able to then identify kenneth's residence in mobile area once we got to the location positively
06:06identify miss tammy's vehicle being parked in the driveway of that residence we made contact
06:14amanda and kenneth were taken into custody and brought to mobile homicide
06:21i think we need to get detective johnson do the search warrant on the residence in the truck from where
06:26we got kenny and amanda so the idea now is to to basically figure out how these two are involved
06:34did they just happen upon the credit card the truck did somebody give it to them are they the actual
06:40people that know where tammy is we got to get to the bottom of it
06:45kind of go into it easy and confront her on the how are you using this person's card
06:51detective barton and fairhope sergeant hall will interview amanda first ma'am if you want to just

08:18i did okay how did you purchase that um with the credit card the one kenneth had gave me all

08:27so obviously after y'all left that sex shop you knew without a shadow of a doubt that you had

08:33got finished using another female's car and stuff yeah did y'all have a conversation about that
08:43i mean i asked him where he got it from he said he got on the wall
08:46and what about you have you ever been in jail yeah
08:52i just got out a couple months ago at metro for a death of property third i found a phone
08:58in the
08:58bathroom and i transferred some money from the woman's account from her phone
09:04you got kids i have four you have custody of them i'm sorry i was 65 years ago
09:11you get to talk to them yeah but my three older ones told me that um
09:16they didn't want to talk to me right now and they were tired of me breaking promises
09:20and not seeing them like i'm supposed to
09:24you seem like a nice person you seem like you just had a couple rough years and you've
09:31kind of done what you needed to survive yes sir and i and i understand that and i'm empathetic towards
09:36that okay uh but this is a lot bigger than a truck and a credit card and i think you
09:43know that
09:44i think deep down maybe you've gotten some idea this is something different so you need to be honest
09:51with me right now we need to know if you at any point for any reason met this woman that

10:26i mean i've heard him talking to other people about a woman beat the woman up into a truck
10:36okay the actual moment that you heard him starting to talk about this you need to paint the picture for
10:45it was a couple days later okay right house she says they were hanging out with one of kenny's friends
10:52when kenny started talking well what did you hear him saying um he said he um he said he beat

10:59woman up pretty bad he left her side of the road and took her truck

11:14and knowing all that from the jump you amanda are what cool with him just beating a woman up and

13:27okay so what do you know about that truck i was done during the assumption that kenny's eggs
13:34growing that helped him get the truck
13:38we know that your son used the owner of that truck's credit card without their permission
13:44in several places in mobile this is video footage of him using the car
13:49i wouldn't have turned his ass in if i've known
13:53but i've already told my son in an apartment history i'm turning me for me i'm turning him
13:58for hit me in the back of the head to put his ass in jail
14:03because this is murder what

14:12the owner of that truck is missing

14:45so here's what's going on all right obviously we're here for a reason
14:53i'm asking you to specifically tell me what kenny told you regarding how he got that truck

15:11and i finally called him out i said hey what's killing you facing around here for like that
15:17i said what's getting to up there what he said to me was i killed somebody

15:53so i didn't think i didn't take that much much of his time
15:58only come back in the end talking about it like it was nothing you know

16:38here's the thing okay the reason we're here

16:45it's not just something that he said
16:51did he say where he was with her
16:58he says kenny told him he met the victim at his friend's house
17:02the same friend detectives have identified
17:14he confessed that the daddy killed her
17:17time frame matches perfectly we gotta re-interview that now
17:22we got some pretty good stuff here at the search warrant and we found the victim's purse
17:30and some cell phones and one of the cell phones might be the victim's phone
17:35on the back seat of the vehicle we did a test for blood positive uh tests
17:45so definitely is the next yeah yeah stop detectives will now turn to kenny's friend
17:53and hopefully he will give us something good
18:04we're knocking it down yeah
18:08but what do we do about finding this body we'll figure that out
18:13the only odd thing is that the stepdad's saying he confessed to shooting her
18:17unless amanda's just lying

19:27and some of the things that we've learned gives us the feeling that you're not being completely truthful

19:40um i was not with jenny the night i stayed at his parents and slept
19:47he got back early in the morning when he got back um he come inside and got me
19:55and he had squirted water hose in the truck
20:00right inside the truck it was a lot of blood inside the truck
20:05front seat back seat it's the whole front of the truck it's just blood everywhere
20:12i asked him what had happened and he told me that he had shot a woman
20:18cut to get the truck
20:22was her body in the truck
20:24yes sir
20:27so then what happened he went inside and got a towel and started driving inside the truck out
20:36did you help him no sir he went um he went inside took his clothes off um changed his clothes
20:43come back
20:44out and put everything in the fire barrel towel on his clothes and burned everything
20:52did he tell you where the body was no sir did he have a gun when he come back yeah
20:58he had had a gun
21:00handgun yes sir what did he do with it he uh he had took it and we're going to try
21:07to he was going
21:07to try to burn it and i told him i said he can't burn a gun so um the next
21:13day he threw it out the window

21:21i'm not sure if i'm believing you i'm being truthful i'd like to believe that you are but it
21:30doesn't make a whole lot of sense and you've held on to this knowledge for days and spent a dead

21:37money and riding around in a dead woman's truck
21:43we're going to need you to lead us to where the gun was tossed so do not waste our time

22:38they ain't heard from their mama in about six days i'm thinking about her kids

23:51murder she's telling us that uh kenny's been physical with her kenny admitted to violently
23:57killing a woman for the woman's truck so now she's thinking am i going to be the next victim
24:03you know if i go and tell the police about this so there's a lot of fear i don't necessarily

24:09that she's malicious or uh she doesn't care i think she's kind of a victim of her surroundings

25:24probably about two weeks because she actually just hit me up and then she was like i can get away

25:45uh when she come over and we sat down with my cows for a second and i just i mean
25:50i wasn't feeling it
25:51like i was like i was on the phone went out the back room went over to the neighbors
25:55she just wasn't what she looked like in pictures like she catfished me but how i felt
26:03she's missing me and i didn't answer her back because i really didn't want to be mean to her
26:09but i never said my back to her for a while and she finally missed me so i'm just gonna
26:14leave
26:15so i messaged my cousin and just like tell me when she's gone i'll walk back over
26:21did he do that no he let me know when she left but when she left i didn't know king
26:27was going with
26:28so he apparently left with the tammy chick okay and then what i went to sleep
26:38have you tried to hit her up on facebook since
26:41no i messaged her and apologized did you get a response no i thought she was mad
26:49okay then when was the next time you saw kenny or heard from him the next day
27:01did you know what vehicle he was talking about no i noticed he pulled up in a white truck

29:23we've got to now come to an understanding all right we've talked to amanda okay we've talked to your
29:33stepdad you understand we figured out the time frame of how that truck got to your mom's trailer
29:44that truck was owned by a woman named tanny and you met her the night of january 1st
29:51you were with amanda while you were using the credit card
29:55is after
29:59you can sit there and you can deny it but the situation is way bigger
30:05what i'm trying to get you to understand is it's not about the truck
30:09it's not about it's not about the car it's about the woman that is missing
30:33i don't even know what happened okay all i know is that the owner of that truck
30:41a woman met you and you've got to help us understand the rest

30:53the woman is missing and we have to find her we have to be able to give her family some

36:59did you pull the truck over right where kind of like where we're at right right this is
37:03and did you you went in in the pastor's seat and grabbed her you're still in the passenger seat
37:10and when i started over the thing right there i said my look she's not gonna be dead
37:16she's not gonna be dead right right and i pulled the trigger
37:23was she breathing or where did you shoot her back of the head gotcha i'm going to prison for life

37:41you just gave me a full confession you want to go ahead and do the notification
37:47our mother actually lives over here we'd definitely like her yeah fairhope police department
37:54will notify tammy's family that her body was found and an arrest has been made you could definitely

40:49She was my baby, and when she was a young child, she was probably one of the sweetest

40:57And then, unfortunately, she kind of got distant from me.
41:02I tried hard, and she had her own life.
41:07But she was my daughter, and I loved her very much, and I love her children very much.

41:19We had a family meeting Sunday.
41:22They were sitting right here, and I told them, I said, you know how mommy hadn't come home
41:27this week?
41:27And I said, yes, ma'am.
41:29I said, mommy won't be coming home.
41:32Mommy's going to be with God.
41:33God's going to take care of your mommy.
41:38We appreciate you, because it has to be God.
41:42It has to be, because we have faith.

41:46I was praying, because I prayed pretty much through the entire investigation.

42:22that her case is strong, and she can have that peace.
42:27Moments like that, after the dust has settled, it's hard not to grieve with a family.
