00:05In Toronto's War on Crime, the worst offenders are pursued by the detectives of the Specialized Criminal Investigations Unit.
00:13These are their stories.
00:17Hey, you got a package here for Patrice Fauchamp?
00:20Yeah, let me see if he's in it.
00:30We're getting closer and closer to finding this Satan.
00:35Kakashi stole from us.
00:37One hundred thousand of us.
00:39And now, he's gonna die.
00:42Kakashi is smart, but the hive mind is smarter.
00:47We're gonna tear it apart, limb by limb.
00:53This came for you.
00:55Thanks.
01:03Hi, Mr. Song.
01:04You're early.
01:06I'm a good student.
01:08What's on the agenda today?
01:10Hash functions.
01:11I already know how hash functions.
01:13You smoke it, and then you get high.
01:15Hash functions are the cornerstone of cryptography.
01:18They're why your online passwords have never been hacked, despite the groundbreaking use of your dog's name.
01:22Wait, how do you know my password?
01:24Hash functions.
01:25Which I will teach you as soon as you close those curtains.
01:30You should learn to trust people.
01:33I can't.
01:35I'm too smart.
01:38Most of these kids are way too smart for public school.
01:41Kids on the spectrum obviously have special needs, and we know how to meet them.
01:45The right education could completely change Max's life.
01:48It's incredible.
01:50I didn't know places like this existed.
01:53We're the top-ranked school for autism in the province.
01:55We only have one spot available, but Max seems like a terrific fit.
02:00You said it's $52,000 a year?
02:02I promise you, Mr. Bell, it's worth every penny.
02:05I promise you, Mr. Bell, it's worth every penny.
02:08I promise you, Mr. Bell, it's worth every penny.
02:10Hey, Stuart, who was that hollering the other day with the camera?
02:13No one, Joel.
02:15They got the wrong guy.
02:16I'm still waiting on rent.
02:17The new rate?
02:18The one we discussed?
02:19Oh, the one that goes against the Residential Tenancies Act?
02:23You'll have it first thing in the morning.
02:32Beautiful.
02:40How much for your piece?
02:44How much?
02:47Think on it.
03:03Come on, Baxter.
03:05Two more throws and we get to go home.
03:06Go get it.
03:07Go get it.
03:10Baxter.
03:12Baxter.
03:12Come here, buddy.
03:16Come here, buddy.
03:17Come here.
03:37Come here, buddy.
04:04Victim is male, presumed late 20s.
04:07John Doe, no identification.
04:09Dogwalker spotted the body hanging from that tree at 6.03 this morning.
04:15Took us a minute to get him down.
04:17I like the ornament.
04:18Killer threw the body off the bridge.
04:19didn't quite hit the ground I have officers up on the bridge canvassing but
04:23so far no luck all yours detectives thanks
04:28no cameras not much foot traffic not a bad place to dump a body no not a great
04:33place either this body was always gonna be found I think our killer was in a
04:37hurry okay
04:41well the tree didn't do him any favors at least he was dead on arrival no froth
04:46bite particular hemorrhaging in the eyes consistent with asphyxia but no
04:50bruising on the neck just residue and judging by the linear pattern duct tape
04:56victim might have been suffocated with a plastic bag it's a hell of a way to go
05:01well maybe the killer wanted our victim to suffer maybe he couldn't look at his
05:06face as he died what's this extreme cold keep cellular structure in place
05:16stopping decomposition apart from the damage done in the disposal we can
05:21imagine that our John Doe's body is almost exactly as it was at the moment he
05:25died you've been hanging around corpses too long and you with violent criminals
05:29which is probably why you were right about the cause of death suffocation
05:35residue around his neck is consistent with duct tape and traces of a high
05:41density polyethylene often found in plastic bags without decomposition we
05:46can't determine the time of death no unless you're really good our victim was
05:52killed approximately 24 hours ago Howard John Doe also recently had his
05:58appendix removed surgically not laparoscopically a surgical appendectomy his
06:04blood type and some legwork led me to a name oh you could have led with that and deprive myself
06:13of this beautiful moment you're welcome
06:19Stuart song 28 no credit cards lease license or vehicle to his name only child
06:26both parents have died no next of kin no address on file no record of employment and get this no
06:32trace of online activity
06:33what 28 year old doesn't go online maybe he's analog likes his own company
06:38values his privacy doesn't trust the government the only thing we do know is
06:42that his digital footprint was wiped clean two years ago oh there was one
06:46thing he forgot to delete his Yelp account all these restaurants are in the
06:52West End picky eater mmm a ghost that likes to eat on his own stoop if he didn't
06:59have a car then these restaurants are probably close to where he lives how
07:03many Edwardian duplexes with a number 150 can there be 47 I looked then I say these
07:10two better get moving
07:14Stu was a weird guy always insisted on paying cash for his rent wouldn't sign the
07:19lease didn't want a record of anything you have any idea why huh like I said
07:24weird dude never seen a key like that before that's cuz he invented it first one I dropped
07:33into a sewer grate took him three weeks to make me a new one you find my overdue rent in
07:41there you let me know
07:55it's a hell of a vinyl collection that's a cute library too there's letter of every
08:03title quit looking at my
08:08ok shelf
08:12ok shelf where's the B exactly hard to believe that someone so meticulous would
08:17leave their apartment like this no look at the drawers books everywhere someone's been
08:29in here
08:30Stuart's my tutor he taught me math and that I wasn't stupid did he ever mention anything to
08:37you anyone or anything that he was afraid of no I mean he hated technology but I just
08:43can't imagine he had any enemies when was the last time you saw him um four days ago I was
08:50here for a lesson hash functions yeah but Stuart was always writing on the board it would never still
08:58have that stuff on it unless he hasn't been here since
09:05Stuart left here four days ago and was only killed yesterday where was he in between
09:15Emily when you last saw Stuart did he happen to mention where he was going after your lesson
09:19I'm same place he goes every Thursday
09:22four days ago Stuart left his house around 7 p.m. headed for the momo house on Queen
09:27West he entered this underpass at 7 13 p.m. fast forward 60 seconds and he never came out
09:35oh not on foot anyway left in the back of that van not just any van quick shift rent them
09:41from
09:41an app pick them up on the street drop them off when you're done all you need is a license
09:45and
09:45credit card let me guess we assume the kidnapper stole them from a man with an alibi still waiting
09:49on the statement as for the van the company retrieved it and wiped it clean of any usable prints right
09:54again but here's something you may not know before it was dumped the van had only made one trip to
10:00this
10:00address here a house owned by a man named Tony Lewis in North York I've owned this lot for almost
10:08two
10:08years but I couldn't get approval from the neighbor for a new build I guess they uh change their minds
10:15with some help from my lawyer started prepping the place for a tear down this week but I haven't
10:19been inside for months that's absurd and it's not true Stuart you can't hide this any longer you have
10:29no idea what you're talking about riot coin was garbage tech trivial code wrapped in shiny influencer
10:34wrapping paper it was a meme coin yeah right the city's in a housing crisis and yet our killer managed
10:53to find a nice empty place to bring Stuart yeah till Tony up there starts knocking things down explains why
11:00the body was moved in a hurry yeah this is where he was murdered and held against his will for
11:08three
11:09days before there was no evidence of torture on Stuart's body no signs of malnutrition whoever
11:17kidnapped him was humane but why kidnap a math tutor I mean guy didn't have any family to pay ransom
11:24I mean
11:25he didn't even have a bank account somebody went to Stuart's apartment after he left maybe they just
11:30wanted him out of the way if so they already had a key I told you last time I barely
11:38knew the guy
11:39right just uh some weirdo who owed you rent still does you uh ever go into his place unannounced it's
11:47not his place it's my place but no of course not I'm not a creep you sure it's a nice
11:55oak shelf
11:57thanks but all be that uh he was a philosopher yet had he but little gold in coffer Bartlett's
12:04familiar quotations it's one of my favorites I read it when I can't get to sleep I just wanted my
12:11rent Stuart's always trying to pay less I let it slide until some guy comes to our door with a
12:17video
12:17camera says Stuart's a billionaire yeah with a B I mean it sounded crazy but you uh you chose to
12:25believe him the guy had conviction so when Stuart left four days ago I went in the apartment I grabbed
12:32the
12:32stupid book I saw him take money out of it once you want to know what was inside
12:36five or J egg eight hundred bucks this guy with the camera did he say anything else uh Stuart's real
12:42name was Patashi Patashi is stupid like that not uh not Takashi yeah so you've never heard of Takashi I
12:54guess you're not interested in crypto oh big aplex scared me off that probably for the best so two
13:00years ago a anonymous online figure goes by the name Takashi mince riot coin new crypto coin best
13:08investment since sliced bread otherwise known as a rug pull coin gets hyped everyone buys in expecting
13:14on a yacht within the year then Takashi disappears with all the money coin suddenly worthless everyone
13:20goes broke well the timeline would sync up Stuart went off the grid two years ago right when uh riot
13:25coin
13:25crashed leaving a hundred thousand duped investors baying for blood well that explains why Stuart liked
13:31his privacy yeah that he did look at that is that reflective film yeah celebrities use it on their
13:39windows to uh disrupt cameras you ever seen a uh a bird's nest this symmetrical graph leave the birds
13:52alone they're made of mud sticks and garbage oh usually don't come with a price tag or a camera
14:09oh come on Takashi's a myth he's an urban legend at any rate he's not some 28 year old math
14:15tutor in
14:16Parkdale now Takashi vanished two years ago the same week that Stuart went off the grid all the money
14:21that Takashi stole was converted into bitcoin and it's been sitting in a public wallet ever since all
14:26bitcoin transactions are recorded on a public ledger that can be viewed by anyone yeah I know my brother
14:31won't shut up about it right so for two years he left the money untouched until two days ago the
14:37entire
14:37balance got sent to an untraceable account at the same exact time that Stuart was being held hostage you
14:43think he was paying a ransom well if it was it didn't work they still killed him doesn't
14:47whoever kidnapped him use this a tracking device yeah we found that in Stuart's jacket the lab processed
14:55it but uh there's no way of seeing who received the signal there are thousands of people online who
15:01are hunting for Takashi I mean entire forums dedicated to it and these people they want to
15:06annihilate him and then there are those who just want to find the guy who stole two billion dollars
15:11okay so who found him well Mark just tracked down the owner of the hidden camera we found outside
15:16Stuart's apartment so maybe someone at uh skyline post has some answers is this about the body in that
15:25tree I'll tell you the city's gone insane this is exactly the reason why my wife said we had to
15:29move
15:29to port credit Malcolm we uh found a camera that belongs to your facility illegally recording a victim
15:35not my facility I'm just the manager so you're not aware of what your clients are making here you get
15:40dozens of directors and producers they rent equipment edit suites we're not monitoring what they're
15:44making you would have a record though of who rented that particular camera here we go hmm this guy
15:55mr. top secret Patrice Bouchon he was nominated for an Emmy six years ago so Malcolm what is he
16:03making here did you take a peek no idea you're gonna have to ask him yourself he won't tell me
16:08but
16:10doesn't your company offer servers to the filmmakers so they can back up their footage for free normally
16:17yes but he didn't want that his editing suite is usually locked he insists on having the only key
16:35well looks like mr. top secret has left the building
17:03yo river you're shot
17:11before we get started would you mind turning the camera off what camera the one on your bookshelf
17:20look in my business everything is material you don't know the story till the story appears
17:27sounds a lot like our business and our story so far as it appears is that uh
17:33you were stalking and surveilling a man that we just found dead in a tree
17:38thursday night 7 p.m where were you patrice hang on you're not suggesting suggesting no i'm just
17:47asking i was here i came in around 3 p.m and didn't leave till the next morning you can
17:56confirm it with
17:57my neighbor if you want we share a pizza together we'll be sure to do that seriously i was right
18:02here
18:02in my office transcribing interviews on this computer well that's interesting as your office
18:08used to be at uh skyline post until you abruptly left yesterday with four months left on your contract
18:15look i wasn't stalking stewart song i just wanted the guy on camera that's it why a solitary math
18:24tutor the man barely leaves a footprint exactly i'm making a film about people who've dropped off the
18:30grid dropped off the grid because thousands of people wanted them dead you think stewart song
18:40is a crypto billionaire who told you you just did and seeing that you're the only person that thinks
18:47that i guess that makes you our prime suspect okay listen i can prove stewart was takashi
18:54and that i am not the only one who knows how
19:03last week this was delivered to my office no return address just undeniable proof that stewart song
19:13is takashi mark and i went through patrice's folder tons of proof that stewart was takashi
19:21and show him what we found in the rye coin source code quit looking at my coat it's the first
19:26letter
19:27just like the bookshelf cute not as cute as oak shelf but what about our tipster i think in under
19:3430
19:34based on the notes in the margin tbh imho wag me we're all gonna make it that'll cry the crypto
19:41republic
19:42keeps people going when they're losing their shirts play this again okay so under 30 lurking in the
19:50forums brilliant if they've been able to put this together raised by wolves excuse me the hat it's
19:58from raised by wolves they're a streetwear brand and their stores in ottawa wouldn't be too hard to
20:02track them down they do a lot of capsules small bad stuff
20:11riversmith can i help you officer that's detective and we're hoping you might have a conversation with
20:19us about takashi how did you find me well apparently you were raised by wolves
20:28okay uh everybody out yeah you gotta go hey pete could you just throw up a close sign for me
20:37so river we went through files they're very thorough why didn't you bring them to the police
20:43so you could arrest him well he ripped off 100 000 people look no offense but i don't exactly have
20:48much trust in the police i'm taken besides this isn't cops and robbers this is a treasure hunt
20:56i mean this is the copper scroll this is the beale ciphers the beale ciphers they're a myth
21:01well yeah but imagine if you were two steps away from solving them what do you mean uh two steps
21:07okay okay uh so this is a treasure hunt you find the gold why give it away to a documentary
21:15filmmaker
21:16was i supposed to just release him to those numb nuts online and have you heard those freaks they
21:22want to cut the man to pieces and string him up by the toenails patrice bouchon's the real deal i
21:27mean
21:27i uh i think it was a great way to expose takashi to the masses yet here we are investigating
21:33his
21:33murder you paint a target on a man's back it's no surprise he gets shot yeah i know i um
21:40i'm sorry i didn't thursday 7 p.m where were you swan dive on dundas it's a first date question
21:50you're a puzzler this one's been bugging me i went into uh forums from two years ago it seems that
22:00uh stewart was arguing with takashi not as himself obviously his username was life pi 97
22:07yeah no i i uh that's how i pulled his age sloppy okay well stewart would point out issues bugs
22:15problems
22:16and takashi fire right back call stewart a fool a basic smooth brain non-player character npc yeah um
22:25i think that stewart was riot coin's biggest fan and its biggest critic i always just figured that
22:33he was fighting with himself what do you mean haven't you ever heard that thing people say
22:40um the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist
22:49mark's reviewing the documentary footage now how do you take it patrice tore up the warrant into tiny
22:55shreds i thought he was gonna eat them well the man has teeth you get everything took everything
23:01with a plug thanks
23:05katashi is smart but the hive mind is smarter we're gonna tear them apart limb by limb
23:13all right stop up there mark that clip there can you highlight that and find the original source
23:25right coin was hope and now i feel like i'm at the bottom of the hole and i look up
23:33at the sky but
23:36it's so far away i don't know how i'll ever get out
23:45and cut
24:01you know there comes a a point in every investigation that things start to pile up
24:07at the feet of one person i'd say we've reached that point see not only were you one of two
24:14people
24:15who knew that stewart song was takashi not only did you shut down your work at skyline and not only
24:21did you threaten stewart's life but sin of all sins for a filmmaker you faked the source in your
24:26interviews couldn't get anyone to come on camera they're all privacy freaks you said you would tear
24:33that man limb from limb i have an alibi well i imagine two billion dollars is enough to pay off
24:42a neighbor but what do i know at any rate what we have is far more important what's that motive
24:49you
24:51hated the man you said so on camera so you stalked him you brought him to a basement you put
24:56a
24:56plastic bag over his head and secured it with tape until he suffocated to death
25:04you were nominated for an emmy weren't you
25:07how was that you fly down there to la
25:13you meet any famous people
25:15no because they don't talk to losers but you did manage to get funding for your next film
25:21but the money never ended up on the screen did it you put it all in a riot coin
25:27so not only did you lose your money you lost people's trust
25:31you lost your reputation and then your career
25:35yeah and i wanted to find a man responsible
25:39and do that to him
25:40no expose him and make him rot in jail
25:44but i didn't want to kill him
25:47i just wanted my life back and the only way i could claw back some semblance of a career
25:53would be to tell it as a story let the audience be the judge and jury
25:58so i posted on many forums looking for help and then
26:02would you look at that someone dropped stewart's name right into your lap
26:05i confronted stewart he denied it of course
26:08but then i got a bunch of texts on my phone accusing me of killing the guy
26:12texts from who
26:14i have no idea
26:16so i started to panic shut things down at skyline
26:19remove all my footage of their servers
26:21and finish a project from home period
26:24no no you're mr top secret
26:27they said you didn't want their storage service
26:30what
26:32i always back up my projects
26:33we told you death
26:39okay so why would malcolm lie about not having access to the footage
26:43well maybe he was curious about what patrice was making held a uh private screening
26:47maybe he uh found stewart's real identity and he lied to us to distance himself from our victim
26:52i mean do you think malcolm could have kidnapped stewart
26:54well it's a theory
26:55the only way to test it is to uh revisit the clues and see if anything's connected to malcolm
27:01okay
27:01now stewart song leaves his home at 7pm
27:05he walks south on gladstone to queen
27:08enters the underpass at 7 13 van picks him up
27:12takes him up to tony lewis's abandoned house in north york
27:15where he's held
27:16what do we miss
27:17the van
27:20the van
27:21the van
27:23the van
27:24the van
27:26was rented
27:27using one john oswald's id and credit card
27:32oswald was bar hopping the night that his wallet was stolen
27:35i didn't even notice it was gone in the morning
27:36how'd he get home
27:39it says here he took a ride share
27:41from where
27:44the porthouse social

30:46yesterday someone uh compared it to a treasure hunt
30:50i hadn't thought about it that way before
30:52but um
30:53it stuck
30:56wasn't hunting for anyone
30:58no i believe you
31:00i mean you're just a middle manager
31:01you wouldn't look at the footage that comes across your desk
31:04why would you
31:06but it's uh
31:07it's human nature
31:08when somebody hides something from you to
31:11want to take a peek
31:18mr top secret you called him
31:20malcolm you took that peek didn't you
31:23fortune fell right into your lap
31:25it was like somebody was handing you a
31:27winning lottery ticket and all you had to do was cash it in and pop the champagne
31:32we spoke with your wife malcolm
31:35we looked into your finances
31:38you're broke
31:40it's tough
31:41and there's nothing you wouldn't do for your boy
31:43max
31:45you'd go so far as to uh
31:47steal a wallet
31:49rent a van
31:50plant a gps tracker in a man's jacket
31:53so you could hunt him down
31:56gps tracker
31:57no i don't know what you're talking about
31:59you abducted your target
32:01brought him to hannah's uncle's empty house
32:03you demanded a ransom which she paid and then you killed him anyway
32:06i didn't kill him
32:08no i didn't
32:11i found his address on patrice's footage
32:14and then i followed him through the underpass
32:16and i i took him
32:20okay why
32:21because i needed the money
32:23i asked him for three hundred thousand dollars
32:26life-changing for me
32:28for him it's 0.015 percent of his net worth
32:34but he said he wasn't to cash him
32:36a chain to a chair
32:37i might say the same thing
32:39sure but
32:40then he
32:42started making sense
32:44he started saying things
32:45like he was
32:46an early adopter of
32:48riot coin
32:49and how he met to cashy online
32:51and helped him write better code
32:53improve his specs
32:55he swore on his own life
32:56that he wasn't to cashy
32:58so if steward song wasn't to cashy then
33:00why did he go off the grid
33:02he claimed he was scared
33:05that people would find out he was involved
33:08he said that after takashi disappeared
33:10he felt sick
33:11like
33:12he was responsible for ruining thousands of lives
33:16no everything that i had brought up
33:17steward had an answer for
33:19but eventually
33:20you were gonna have to get rid of him
33:22i mean make it
33:22make sense malcolm
33:24my face was covered
33:25so
33:26steward had promised me
33:27he wouldn't tell a soul
33:29if i had let him go
33:30so i went home
33:31i thought about it for a couple hours
33:33and then
33:37when i came back
33:39steward was right where i left him
33:43but with a plastic bag over his head
33:46and two billion dollars transferred out of his account
33:48yes so i guess he was takashi
33:51and
33:51i'm an idiot for believing when he said he wasn't
34:00obviously i couldn't go to the police
34:01and there was workers starting at the house
34:04i didn't know what to do
34:07are you saying you moved a body for someone else's murder
34:10look
34:11i don't know who killed steward song
34:15but i know it wasn't me
34:26looks like we have our man
34:27yeah for the kidnapping sure
34:29you believe that
34:30come on
34:31if it wasn't malcolm
34:32how would the killer know where steward was
34:33because of the gps tracker
34:35and uh steward's jacket
34:37malcolm didn't even know it was there
34:38obviously he was lying
34:39why would you confess to a kidnapping
34:41which is five to life
34:42and then lie about how you did it
34:44so you think the kidnapper and the killer
34:45are different people
34:46okay so how would this imaginary second person
34:49get the money out of steward when malcolm couldn't
34:51there was no sign of torture
34:52well there are ways to convince people
34:55that don't include torture
34:57but apart from malcolm
34:57the only other two people who knew about steward
35:00were documentary filmmaker patrice
35:02and his anonymous source
35:03river
35:04both of whom have alibis
35:06but for the kidnapping
35:07but not for the time of the murder
35:08if we believe malcolm
35:10we're looking at a whole different chessboard
35:12river smith has no motive
35:14if he was after steward's money
35:16he never would have leaked the information to patrice
35:18he would have just killed him taking the money
35:20and no one would have known who steward was
35:22which leaves patrice and the guy we have in custody
35:26with motive who just admitted to kidnapping
35:28okay yeah we're not asking you to believe us
35:31we're asking for more time
35:37hey i can't confirm malcolm's alibi for the time of the murder
35:40ah forrester will be thrilled
35:42what did you get
35:43well we combed through all of patrice's footage
35:46then realized
35:47we didn't check the uh camera we found in the nest
35:50you mean the one that just shows curtains
35:52yeah so here's the exact moment that uh
35:55patrice confronted steward on his uh
35:57doorstep have listen i've enhanced the audio
36:06oh my god henry
36:12you didn't want to lead with that
36:14i deprived myself of this beautiful moment
36:22detectives
36:26espresso
36:26oh it's a little late for caffeine
36:29thanks
36:29not when you got 200 pages left of the voynich manuscript
36:32hey but now i got a new puzzle
36:34why are you here
36:36well we uh we need your help
36:38see uh we found this in steward's jacket
36:41you know it turns out to be a gps tracker
36:45cool can i see it
36:47that's not much to look at but uh
36:49i think you've seen it already
36:51actually i i think you were the one who put it in steward's jacket
36:55maybe even the night he disappeared
36:57huh
36:57you were at the swan dive just two blocks away from his house
37:01and maybe you passed him in the street and bumped into him
37:08uh are you
37:10wow that's
37:11i'll have what you're having man
37:13river why don't you uh come take a look at this
37:19it's video from the hidden nest camera in steward song's front yard
37:23that's
37:25it's gripping
37:26i'll just turn up the volume
37:27steward you can't hide this any longer
37:30that's patrice beauchon
37:32and steward song
37:38you're still just a basic smooth brain npc
37:42and that uh guy lurking around the house listening
37:46that's uh that's you
37:51no it's not
37:53doesn't sound like me
37:55are you sure
38:01uh reflective gel
38:03bad for paparazzi
38:04good for us
38:07so what
38:10i mean the guy ripped off thousands of people
38:12and i'm the one who caught him
38:13i wanted to watch him squirm
38:14sounds to me like you're the one squirming
38:16river
38:17by using the exact same expressions
38:20takashi used to insult steward on the forums
38:22you know what we could not figure out
38:25is how the killer got the money from steward when malcolm couldn't
38:28but the killer didn't get the money from steward
38:32did they
38:33because steward
38:34wasn't takashi
38:36you are
38:38you killed steward and you sent the money to yourself
38:43you see
38:45the greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing us he was steward's song
38:50right um
38:54okay i'm
38:55closing up
38:56got a second date
38:59unless some clowns scared her off
39:01a hive mind
39:02it's real
39:04it's scary
39:05the crypto millionaires being kidnapped all over the world
39:09being tortured
39:09killed
39:10i think you've heard about the guy in france recently right
39:14got his hands severed sent to his family for ransom
39:17i mean these are the same desperate people who are getting closer to finding you
39:22so
39:22how do you stop
39:24an angry mob
39:25from asking questions
39:27you give him an answer
39:29and steward was the perfect patsy
39:31an early adopter
39:33fingerprints all over the code
39:35active on the forums
39:37and uh
39:38went dark the same week that uh
39:41you rubbed riot coin
39:43and then you saw patrice
39:45on the forums
39:46asking for help with his
39:48documentary
39:50he'd publish
39:51steward's uh
39:53fake identity
39:54to the masses
39:55to those fools
39:57to those basic smooth brains
40:02okay
40:03if i am tekashi
40:05then why do i work at a coffee shop
40:07huh
40:07where's my two billion
40:08well you couldn't access it
40:10could you tekashi
40:12not while everyone was looking for you
40:14so you needed a distraction
40:16and even if you could get at the
40:18billions of dollars you stole
40:20do you really think it would
40:21buy you freedom
40:22from those freaks
40:24who wanted to tear you limb from limb
40:27tell me river
40:30when was the last time
40:31you had a good night's sleep
40:33you needed it to stop
40:35so you
40:36you laid a trap
40:37you put a gps tracker
40:39in steward's jacket
40:40in case he ran away
40:43everything was going hunky dory
40:45until malcolm showed up
40:46malcolm
40:47ah but then the tracker
40:49led you to an empty house
40:51where steward was tied up
40:54crisis equals
40:55danger plus
40:57opportunity
40:58so
40:59you decided on a dark pivot
41:03so you taped
41:04a plastic bag
41:06over an innocent man's head
41:08and then sent yourself
41:10two billion dollars
41:11as he suffocated
41:14river
41:15he can come with us right now
41:17we'll take you to holding
41:18and from this moment
41:19until your trial
41:20you have our word
41:21you'll be fully protected
41:22yeah or you can choose
41:23to walk out this door
41:25right now
41:26and lawyer up
41:28and we'll have no choice
41:30but to start a
41:31very public investigation
41:33into you
41:33now when that gets out
41:35oh the media
41:36they'll descend like vultures
41:38and very little time
41:40we'll have enough
41:40to charge you with murder
41:41but by then
41:42it'll be too late
41:44because everyone will know
41:45your true identity
41:46and all that anonymity
41:49that you've worked for
41:50that you've killed for
41:51will vanish
41:53and of all the riot coin buyers
41:55that you duped
41:56i promise you
41:58one of them is gonna do
41:59a lot more
41:59than just break down
42:00your door
42:04you can't do that
42:05we can
42:06and we will
42:09you don't know
42:09what it's like
42:10okay
42:12i haven't slept in two years
42:13i feel like i'm going insane
42:16my head is pounding
42:18i feel like i'm just
42:19my brain is just going
42:20and going
42:21like i'm spinning around
42:22never i get it
42:23you were looking for a way out
42:25so let us give you one
42:29you're a genius
42:31and i don't use that word lightly
