00:34Whee!
00:36Look, Pingree!
00:38It's snowing!
00:40I know! Don't you just love it?
00:43It's 32 degrees
00:44Just cold enough for snow
00:46If it keeps falling like this
00:48And we get lots of it on the ground
00:50We can go sledding!
00:51Ooh! Pingree the penguin and I
00:54Want to go sledding now!
00:55Hey kids! It's time for dinner!
00:58I wanted to go sledding!
01:00You know what? We can go sledding tomorrow!
01:03Yay!
01:14Whoosh! Zoom!
01:17Benny!
01:18It's time for lights out!
01:20Time to go to sleep!
01:21Okay, Mom!
01:22Hey! I like Pingree's outfit!
01:25Is that a superhero costume?
01:26Yeah! Now he's Super Pingree!
01:29I'm gonna take him sledding with me tomorrow
01:31And I want him to be brave!
01:34Well, Super Pingree, you and Benny better get lots of rest!
01:37Tomorrow will be an exciting day for both of you!
01:42He says he will!
01:43He says he will!
01:46Nighty night, you two!
01:48Nighty night, Mom!
01:50We're gonna have so much fun tomorrow, Pingree!
01:53I'm so excited!
01:54I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to...
01:57able to fall!
02:08Okay, I just dropped Cumulus off at Ms. Joyce's house!
02:11She'll watch him for us today!
02:13Alright, family!
02:14You all have a fantastic day at the park!
02:17It's such a nice day!
02:18It's warmer than yesterday!
02:20I wish you could go with us, Dad!
02:22Me too, Corky!
02:23But our viewers want to know about what's going on,
02:26especially when there's so much interesting weather to report!
02:29But you know I'm gonna join you next time!
02:31We're gonna go sledding!
02:33I know, Benny!
02:34And I hope you have the best sledding day ever!
02:37But don't be surprised if today's temperature gets so warm
02:41that it might not be the best day for it!
02:44It'll be great!
02:45Look at all this snow!
02:47Well, no matter what!
02:48I hope you have a lot of fun today, Benny!
02:51Bye, hun!
02:52Bye, Al!
02:57Bye, kids!
02:58Bye!
02:59Bye, Dad!
03:04Alright, hunters!
03:05Let's get moving!
03:13Hey, Benny!
03:14How come Pingree's wearing a mask and a cape?
03:17Because he's gonna have an adventure!
03:19This'll be Pingree's first time on a sled!
03:23Today, he's Super Pingree!
03:26The Action Adventure Penguin!
03:28That's exciting, Benny!
03:32Whoa!
03:33Look at all the snow that fell last night, Pingree!
03:37I know!
03:39It should be great for sledding!
03:41Pingree and I will zoom down the hill!
03:43You'll see!
03:45Whoosh!
03:46I'll be sure to record plenty of video for Dad to watch later
03:50when he gets home from the TV studio!
03:52Thanks, Corky!
04:00Here we are!
04:02Here we are!
04:02My favorite hill for sledding!
04:09Hmm!
04:11Those icicles are melting off that tree!
04:14It is warm for a winter day!
04:17Warmer than yesterday when it snowed!
04:19It must be because it's getting closer to spring when the temperature starts to warm up!
04:24I'm gonna get out my thermometer and check the temperature right now!
04:28Wow!
04:29It was 32 degrees yesterday, which was cold enough for snow!
04:33And today, it's 40 degrees!
04:35I think you're right, Corky!
04:37Spring is coming!
04:39Okay, Super Pingree, it's zooming time!
04:43Got your camera ready, Corky?
04:45Ready!
04:46Then off we go, go, go!
04:49Whee!
04:51See, Pingree?
04:52Isn't this great?
04:54Whoa!
04:57Hey, what happened, Pingree?
05:00Uh-oh!
05:06Are you alright?
05:08Yep!
05:08Pingree and I are okay!
05:11What happened?
05:12I don't know!
05:16Hmm...
05:18Oh...
05:19I hit a spot where there wasn't any snow and my sled stopped sledding!
05:26Look!
05:26What's happening to the snow?
05:30And why am I feeling so warm?
05:35Hmm...
05:35The snow is melting.
05:38And the snow that's left is turning into slush.
05:42What's slush?
05:43When snow melts, it changes to water.
05:46Then lots of water gets mixed in with the icy snow that hasn't melted yet.
05:50Yep, that's slush!
05:52Here, let me show you.
05:54I'll send what I'm seeing to my tracker tablet, so you can see it too.
05:58Flexpex activate.
06:02Magnify!
06:04That's what snow looks like up close when it melts and turns to slush.
06:08Wow! That's so cool!
06:14This is why the snow is melting.
06:16The air temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
06:20That's definitely a temperature where snow can melt.
06:22If all the snow melts and turns to water, there will be water everywhere!
06:28Where does all that water go?
06:30Hmm...
06:31Now that's a good question.
06:32I've never really thought about that before.
06:35I'm gonna be sad to see the snow go away.
06:38Oh, I'm sorry, Benny.
06:40But it will be back next winter.
06:42And I really wanted to go sledding with Pingree.
06:46Hey!
06:47Where is Pingree?
06:50He's gone!
06:51Don't worry, Benny. I'm sure he's around here somewhere.
06:54I don't think he waddled away.
06:56There he is!
06:58The water from the melting snow is carrying Pingree away!
07:02We've gotta catch him!
07:03Hey, wait for me!
07:16Pingree!
07:17Pingree! Stop!
07:22Almost got him!
07:31Oh, no!
07:34Pingree went down the storm drain!
07:36Now what are we going to do?
07:38Pingree's gone forever!
07:40Don't worry, Benny.
07:42We're gonna find him no matter what it takes.
07:44Look at all that water!
07:46Why is it moving so fast?
07:48What I noticed is that the water is going downhill.
07:52Almost everywhere we look, Corky.
07:54Good observation, Lily.
07:56And there's a reason for that.
07:58Follow me and I'll show you.
08:00And maybe we can figure out a way to rescue Pingree.
08:03Really?
08:06Time for advance-formation.
08:25Let me show you something, kids.
08:30The land that the city is built on has lots of hills with sloped areas for water to flow down.
08:37So water will always flow downhill.
08:40That's because it's in a watershed.
08:42Huh. I've never heard that word before.
08:45What's a watershed?
08:46A watershed is an area where water flows down, with the help of gravity, into streams and pipes in the
08:54city's storm drain system.
08:55And collects into a bigger body of water.
08:58Streets are designed to help water flow downhill, too.
09:01They are higher in the middle than they are on the side.
09:04So rainwater and water from melting snow will flow to the gutters on the side and eventually into the storm
09:11drains.
09:11But where do the pipes take the water?
09:14Mom, Pingree is going wherever the water is carrying him.
09:18If we can figure out where that is, we might be able to find him.
09:22Lily, you read my mind.
09:24Our town has lots of storm drains that connect to pipes underneath the ground, which help carry water away.
09:30What we need is a map of all the town's waterways, like streams, rivers, creeks, and storm drain systems.
09:38The Vansformer's computer should be able to call one up.
09:41What a great idea. That'll make it easy to find Pingree.
09:46Whoa. Or not.
09:48Mom, I've had puzzles that were easier to figure out than this map.
09:52It's not impossible, Corky.
09:54Hey, watch. If I type in the location where Pingree fell in and we track which way the water is
10:00flowing,
10:01our computer just might be able to figure out the path he'll travel and show us where he's going in
10:07real time.
10:09Look!
10:10It's Pingree!
10:11Pingree fell into the storm drain system here and will travel through this pipe, to this long one, to this
10:18short one, to this small one, to this bigger one,
10:22which leads to this river. The river is out in the open. That might be our best place to try
10:29catching him. Come on!
10:36Let's put the van in travel mode.
10:53And we're off.
10:55See, Benny? There's nothing to worry about. Leave it to Mom to save the day.
11:01Mom, do you think we'll get there before Pingree does?
11:04Yes. I'm gonna do my best.
11:06I'm so worried about my penguin.
11:09Hey, you don't call him Super Pingree the action-adventure penguin for nothing, right?
11:14If we're going to find a super-flying penguin, there's only one way to get there.
11:28Whoa! Whoa, Mom! Nice liftoff!
11:32I guess your mom has a few superpowers of her own.
11:36Next up, the river. Pingree, here we come!
11:39Yay!
11:40Yay!
11:42I've asked the computer to put a symbol on the screen for where we are in the van's former,
11:47in relation to where Pingree is underground.
11:54Corky, Lily, I need you to watch the monitor and guide me along the path Pingree is taking.
11:59Okay, Mom.
12:00You got it.
12:02Turn...
12:03Right!
12:07Now, turn left.
12:13Okay, this is the river we saw on the map.
12:16According to the map, Pingree should be here any second now.
12:20See if you can spot our little penguin.
12:29Look! It's Pingree!
12:33Yay!
12:35Yes!
12:36I'm going to follow him.
12:40How are we going to get him, Mom?
12:42We hunters never give up.
12:44We'll figure it out.
12:45Look up there! I see something!
12:48Ugh! It's horrible!
12:50What's horrible?
12:51It's garbage!
12:53Somebody has dumped trash in the water.
12:55I really don't like that.
12:57They may not have thrown it in the water, Corky.
13:00Water can pick up trash from anywhere and carry it here.
13:03That's because of the watershed.
13:10Pingree stopped!
13:12Great! Let's land, and I'll go get him.
13:20You kids stay here.
13:28No, no, no, no, no!
13:30Aww!
13:32You almost had him, Mom!
13:35I haven't given up yet.
13:41Mom, I'm worried about that trash we saw in the water.
13:45Did you know that trash in the water is dangerous for sea creatures, birds, and other wildlife?
13:50You're right, Corky. We can't have trash polluting our water.
13:54Maybe in our next weathercast, we can add on a warning to be more careful where we dispose of our
14:00trash.
14:00Mom, where do we go now to look for Pingree?
14:04Yeah, Mom. Where does all this water go from here?
14:07Let's keep following the map to find out.
14:09I hope he doesn't get lost in all that trash.
14:12Don't worry, little brother. We'll find him. We still have our map to follow.
14:17First, Pingree will float with the water into this pipe.
14:20Then this pipe joins up with this one.
14:22Then after a long, long trip, it looks like the final place where the water goes is right here.
14:28Wherever the water goes, that's where we go. Just keep giving me directions.
14:33Okay, Mom. Turn right again.
14:37Now go straight.
14:42Now another right turn.
14:48Why are we at our beach?
14:50Because that's where this water is flowing. Look.
14:55Wow. So this is where the water goes?
14:58One of the places, yes.
14:59Oh, no. That means all that trash we saw in the water might end up here if it slipped through
15:05that metal grate like Pingree did.
15:07That's terrible. We love the beach. We play here in the summer.
15:11That's why it matters so much that we throw away trash the right way and recycle whenever possible.
15:17And that's another reason why we need to find Benny's rubber penguin.
15:20We sure wouldn't want it to be part of anything polluting the water.
15:24Oh! Oh! Look! We found him! It's Super Pingree! Yay!
15:31Hey!
15:41Pingree!
15:42Hold on, Benny. Let me pick him up first with this cloth. I've sprayed it with disinfectant. I need to
15:49wipe him off really well before you can play with him.
15:53There. All done.
15:55Oh, Super Pingree. I'm so glad we found you.
15:59And you had a real superhero adventure.
16:02Woohoo! Yeah!
16:03All right! Go Pingree!
16:06And thanks, Mom, for all you did to get Pingree back. You're Super, too.
16:11Aw, thank you, Benny.
16:14Look at all this trash that's come out of the storm drain pipe.
16:18Oh, no! This is terrible.
16:20Mom, we have to do something about this. We have to clean it all up.
16:24I think that's a wonderful idea, Corky.
16:27Remember when I dressed up as Recycle Girl last Halloween? Well, today, I really can be a superhero. We are
16:34going to protect the planet.
16:35Woo! Yay!
16:37Yes!
16:58Things look much better now. I really wish people would realize how important it is to only throw trash where
17:04it belongs. We should come back and do this again sometime.
17:08Absolutely.
17:12Well, that was an adventure we weren't expecting.
17:16Now we know where all the melting snow and rainwater goes.
17:20Yes, but I'm still sad we won't have snow to play in anymore.
17:25I know you feel disappointed that the snow will be gone soon, Benny.
17:28But let me show you all the wonderful things that happened to that melting snow.
17:36Remember how we visited the mountains and saw lots of snow on top of them in the winter?
17:41Yes.
17:42Well, when that snow melts, it turns into wonderful flowing water, which makes things like this beautiful waterfall form.
17:51Ooh!
17:52It's so pretty!
17:54Wow! I'm going to record some video of it.
17:58And that water flows right into this lake.
18:01Remember how much fun we had when we went boating on the lake?
18:04Oh, yeah! That was a lot of fun. I like going on a boat.
18:10So, the melting snow helps fill beautiful lakes like this with water.
18:14That's another reason why we shouldn't ever litter.
18:17We have to protect all of the creatures who live in the water, in oceans, rivers, and lakes.
18:26Sometimes, water from melting snow leads to a lovely river, like this one.
18:31We went in a canoe ride here once. Remember?
18:34Oh, yes. That was so much fun, too.
18:38Just as much fun as sledding?
18:39Definitely.
18:41So, you see? Melting snow leads to just as much fun in the warm weather as you had in the
18:46winter.
18:47Maybe even more fun.
18:49Wow! You're right!
18:51Now, let me show you one more important thing that we get from melting snow.
19:01This is called a reservoir.
19:03A what?
19:05A reservoir.
19:08What's a reservoir?
19:10It's where some of the water from rain and melting snow is sometimes kept.
19:15But I thought it all went out into the oceans, or rivers, or lakes.
19:19Not always. Some of it is kept in reservoirs like this. You know why they keep it?
19:25Hmm. I wonder. What do we need to keep water for?
19:30I've got it! We need water to drink. And to wash with. And to clean with. And to water our
19:37gardens.
19:38Oh, right! Is this what that water is for?
19:42You nailed it, Lily! Some towns store some of the water from melting snow in reservoirs to use at home
19:48for all the things we do with water.
19:50In fact, saving water is very important for all communities, especially those that don't get as much rain as others
19:57do.
19:57Wow! So this is where the water we use comes from?
20:02Yes. It gets treated and cleaned before it gets to us in our homes.
20:07We can help make sure the water stays clean, too, by picking up trash.
20:11That's right. Well, hunters, have we seen enough?
20:16Yes, Mom. I think after all this adventure, Pingree must be a little tired.
20:22Oh, he is, is he? Well, I know how much he needs his rest. Let's head home.
20:33Dad! Dad!
20:35Ho, ho, ho, little buddy! What's all the excitement about?
20:38Super Pingree hide an adventure!
20:40He did?
20:41Yeah! And we're gonna do a weathercast all about it!
20:45Oh, I can't wait to see that!
20:48Hello, everybody! Lily Hunter here, with another exciting weatherhunter story.
20:54Did you ever wonder what happens to the winter snow when the temperature gets warmer and the snow melts?
21:00First, the melting snow changes into water.
21:03The land that the city is built on has lots of hills, with sloped areas for water to flow down.
21:09It's what's called a watershed.
21:12That's an area of land where water drains, or sheds.
21:16It flows down.
21:17But the water has to go somewhere, so it flows into storm drains, streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, and oceans.
21:27Sometimes it ends up in something called a reservoir, where it becomes the water we drink and wash in.
21:34Water is so important to us that we have to always keep it clean.
21:37When people litter, they may not think about where that trash ends up.
21:42But rain, and melting snow, and other weather will carry it into the watershed.
21:47That's the water all living things depend on.
21:50Today, we help clean trash that ended up on our beach.
21:53While clean-ups make a difference, it's even more important not to throw garbage where it doesn't belong.
21:59So, please help keep our waterways trash-free.
22:03So, if you ever get unhappy that the snow is melting away, and you can't play in it anymore,
22:09just think of all the wonderful places the water that comes from melting snow will go,
22:13and all the fun things you can do there.
22:15When seasons change, it brings new adventures.
22:18Right, little brother?
22:20Right, Lily.
22:24Remember, whatever the weather, we're in it together.
22:27Even when the snow gets wetter.
22:58It makes the people, who aren't moving away from the weather.
23:00It'svärmundo.
23:00Now, take care.
23:01You can find ourselves at the first place at Noom.
23:02Alexăƒ¢38 you had the first set of thisăƒ¼
23:02to help belong to the snow.
