Paraguay President Santiago Peña, accompanied by President Lai Ching-te, visited the Southern Taiwan Science Park in Tainan on the final day of his state trip to Taiwan. Peña said he aims to learn from Taiwan’s decades of technological development. Paraguay is one of Taiwan’s 12 formal diplomatic allies and its sole partner in South America.

00:18These seeds have grown over the past few decades and have made Taiwan a world power in the

00:25Although Paraguay and Taiwan are 19,000 kilometers apart, have language barriers, and seemingly
00:32different cultures, we share the same vision for development.
00:36Speaking at a press conference in Tainan, Pena said that his country is seeking to grow its
00:42high-tech industry.
00:43He said this visit to Taiwan will help Paraguay to develop its own science and technology
00:48policies.
00:49Paraguay is one of Taipei's 12 official diplomatic allies and the only one in South America.
00:55This trip, which concludes on Sunday, marks Pena's first state visit to Taiwan.
