00:00:23So do you want me to tell you what happened, not the truth?
00:00:27Evil is out there.
00:00:28I use my charm.
00:00:30I use my charm.
00:00:30I use my good looks.
00:00:32Evil walks among us.
00:00:35I just sent you a few.
00:00:36I'm like, fuck my mind.
00:00:37I'm like, you're the prey.
00:00:39I thought I was going to die, 100%.
00:00:41It's just a rave of that.
00:00:43Murder, murder.
00:00:45It's kill, kill, kill.
00:00:46I was begging her to leave him.
00:00:48Like, please get away from this man.
00:00:50He's going to kill you.
00:00:52We realized that we had a really evil monster on our hands.
00:00:57I was like, you know, I'm going to die.
00:00:59I don't know.
00:00:59I'm going to die.
00:01:27with my two dogs and my two cats.
00:01:31A couple miles up the road from my parents,
00:01:34so I was still close enough that I felt like I was safe,
00:01:37but I was on my own, finally.
00:01:43I've always loved working with animals.
00:01:46When I was 19 years old, I started working at a zoo,
00:01:51and I used to train tigers, work with venomous snakes,
00:01:56and I wrestled alligators for two years.
00:01:59Then I took a break from the dangerous stuff
00:02:02and got into dog grooming.
00:02:06My dating life was not the best.
00:02:12I have always been, like, a shy person,
00:02:16so I don't go out and meet people.
00:02:19But then I did try online dating.
00:02:24I scrolled past this guy whose name was Steven,
00:02:28and he was 6'5", and had dimples, and super handsome.
00:02:34And I was like, oh, this is obviously a catfish.
00:02:38But I swiped on him, and he replied and messaged me back,
00:02:42and we agreed to go out.
00:02:45He met up with me.
00:02:47He was really him.
00:02:48He was a real person, 6'5", super handsome, nice teeth.
00:02:52And I was like, holy crap, I found, like, the perfect man.
00:02:56We hit it off, like, right away.
00:02:58And at the end of the night, he asked me if he could kiss me.
00:03:02And I was like, what is this?
00:03:04This is, this is, like, fairy tale stuff.
00:03:08So that's, that's where it all started,
00:03:10and we just were, like, inseparable.
00:03:13Well, Steven was a personal trainer.
00:03:17He told me that he was from North Florida,
00:03:20and he was adopted and given to these two awesome people
00:03:25through their church.
00:03:27They were nice, well-off people.
00:03:30And he had told me that he had been in contact with his dad,
00:03:34his biological dad,
00:03:35and he seemed happy about that.
00:03:39When my parents first met Steven,
00:03:42they did really like him.
00:03:44They thought he was super sweet
00:03:45and seemed to have a nice head on his shoulders.
00:03:50And my animals really liked him,
00:03:51which was a huge deal for me.
00:04:00Don't drink the whole thing.
00:04:04A couple weeks into dating,
00:04:07he asked if I wanted to be his girlfriend.
00:04:10And, of course, I said yes.
00:04:14At the time,
00:04:15Steven had been complaining about his roommate.
00:04:19I trusted him and felt something for him,
00:04:22so I let him move in with me pretty quickly,
00:04:24like, within the first month.
00:04:26He didn't have a car.
00:04:27He would borrow my car a lot.
00:04:28And I only lived a couple miles from the park
00:04:31that he would go to.
00:04:33So he would go and do personal training.
00:04:37I believe it was, like, late September,
00:04:41early October that we started officially dating.
00:04:44I was super happy.
00:04:46I thought, this is it.
00:04:48This is, I'm going to marry this guy.
00:04:50Okay.
00:05:00In 2018,
00:05:03Wade and I matched on Plenty of Fish
00:05:05around the end of September,
00:05:08the beginning of October.
00:05:12I was 26 years old,
00:05:14and I just moved to Loxahatchee.
00:05:20When I first saw Wade,
00:05:22I was like, wow,
00:05:23he's really attractive,
00:05:26really good-looking,
00:05:28really tall,
00:05:28and he had a nice voice.
00:05:33He kept mentioning,
00:05:35let's go to the park.
00:05:37So we met up,
00:05:39and we just sat there and talked.
00:05:43There was a lot of joking,
00:05:45a lot of laughing,
00:05:47just like we had known each other for a while.
00:05:51Wade said that he was looking for a relationship,
00:05:54and that his only flaw was that
00:05:56he didn't have a good woman in his life.
00:05:59I was just like,
00:06:01it's too good to be true.
00:06:06Wade and I were dating at this point,
00:06:09and we were on the phone all the time,
00:06:13texting, calling,
00:06:16sending pictures to each other back and forth.
00:06:18But I worked a lot,
00:06:20so Wade and I didn't really get to see each other
00:06:23in the beginning as much,
00:06:25but I was just like over-the-moon ecstatic
00:06:30that I had found someone.
00:06:39Living with Stephen was great.
00:06:42You know, he would cook,
00:06:44and he took care of me a lot.
00:06:48But the first big red flag that I had with him
00:06:51was one day I came home from work,
00:06:53and I was looking for my laptop to edit some photos,
00:06:57and I couldn't find it.
00:06:59And I looked everywhere,
00:07:01and Stephen was like,
00:07:02I don't know, I haven't seen it.
00:07:06I couldn't find it anywhere.
00:07:08And then finally,
00:07:10Stephen admitted that he pawned my laptop
00:07:13because he needed money.
00:07:16I was just so mad that I called the police,
00:07:19and I filed a police report.
00:07:22The police did a search for all the pawn shops in the county.
00:07:27They found my laptop literally two miles up the road,
00:07:32and they went there,
00:07:33and they verified that it was Stephen that dropped it off.
00:07:37That's when I found out that his name was Wade
00:07:40because he used his ID to pawn it,
00:07:42and I found out that Stephen was his middle name.
00:07:44So that was a big shock to me
00:07:47because, you know,
00:07:48this whole time I thought his name was Stephen.
00:07:51And I asked him about why he was going by Stephen,
00:07:54why his dating profile said Stephen.
00:07:58I actually found that he had several Facebook profiles
00:08:00with that name as well.
00:08:02And he just said that he needed, like, an escape
00:08:06because he had some exes and stuff
00:08:08that knew his real name,
00:08:09and he didn't want them to find him.
00:08:13He was very good at laying it on thick.
00:08:16Like, when you have a 6'5 man crying to you
00:08:20that he's so sorry
00:08:21and he just needed the money,
00:08:24your heart kind of breaks,
00:08:25and you're like,
00:08:26okay, I understand.
00:08:27It's like a one-time thing.
00:08:29It's not going to happen again, you know?
00:08:31This was one of my first more serious relationships,
00:08:33so I hadn't really figured out
00:08:36how a real relationship should work.
00:08:40And we had only been together for a couple months.
00:08:43So, you know, when he apologized
00:08:45and he said he wouldn't do it again,
00:08:46I believed him.
00:08:51In November, on Wade's Instagram,
00:08:54I saw a person named Pinup Princess
00:08:58commenting all over his posts.
00:09:02So I was, you know, asking him,
00:09:05who's this girl?
00:09:07Why is she telling you to call her?
00:09:09And I found out that Pinup Princess was Kelly
00:09:12and also the girl that was in his phone under Kay.
00:09:18And he told me,
00:09:19oh, that's just my roommate.
00:09:22And at that time, I was just like,
00:09:24okay, and I believe that.
00:09:31I had a friend that had broken up with her boyfriend
00:09:34and she needed to move in with someone temporarily,
00:09:36so I let her come crash with me.
00:09:39One day, we were all sitting around talking about Mastiffs,
00:09:43and I was like,
00:09:44I know this guy who breeds this rare breed of Mastiff
00:09:47called a Presa Canario,
00:09:48and they had some puppies.
00:09:51I didn't know that he was taking that and running with it.
00:09:55And my friend was only 18,
00:09:58so I think that she got sucked into Wade's charisma.
00:10:05I went to work and Wade and my friend.
00:10:09Apparently, they went to the kennel
00:10:11and had stolen, I believe, three or four puppies
00:10:15and brought them back to my house.
00:10:20I got home from work and I was like,
00:10:23why are there these dogs in my house?
00:10:25There's going to be people looking for these dogs.
00:10:27I was freaking out.
00:10:30Wade didn't care.
00:10:32He said, we need to sell these dogs.
00:10:35So he and my friend took pictures of them
00:10:37in front of my couch
00:10:39and posted them on Craigslist.
00:10:43The man that owned the dogs
00:10:45recognized my house and called the police.
00:10:53So I get a phone call from Wade
00:10:54and he says, I need you to three-way the detective
00:10:57and tell him that it was you.
00:10:59And if you don't, I'm going to kill your dogs.
00:11:04It was like totally out of left field.
00:11:06I was like, who are you?
00:11:08Like, what is happening right now?
00:11:10I wasn't 100% sure if he would actually go through
00:11:13or something like that,
00:11:14but I was so afraid for my own animals
00:11:16that I didn't want to risk it
00:11:18and he was home alone with my dogs
00:11:20and I was at work.
00:11:22So I called the cops.
00:11:24They told me to walk them through everything,
00:11:26how I stole the puppies,
00:11:27what the place looked like,
00:11:29and I did.
00:11:31They told me I needed to turn myself in
00:11:33the next day.
00:11:36I confronted Wade when I got home.
00:11:39Thankfully, he didn't do anything
00:11:42to my dogs and he was like,
00:11:45I have a criminal record and you don't,
00:11:47so it's better for you to be on probation, not me.
00:11:51He said that he had just gone to jail
00:11:52for a couple petty things like stealing
00:11:55and stuff like that.
00:11:57This is the first time that I heard
00:11:58that he had a record.
00:11:59I had no idea.
00:12:00I thought he was a good boy from Tallahassee.
00:12:06The next day,
00:12:08Wade and my friend dropped me off at the jail
00:12:14and I had to sit in a jail for 27 hours.
00:12:20I grew up in Catholic school.
00:12:22I am not a criminal,
00:12:24so I was like sobbing the whole time.
00:12:31When I got home,
00:12:33they were gone
00:12:34and so was all of their stuff.
00:12:37All of Wade's clothes,
00:12:39all of her clothes,
00:12:42my handgun.
00:12:44I panicked.
00:12:48I went to check my ring footage
00:12:50and what I found was
00:12:52the night that they had dropped me off at the jail,
00:12:56they went back home
00:12:58and they were all flirty
00:13:00and huggy and kissy
00:13:01right in front of my camera.
00:13:03I had evidence now
00:13:05that he was being unfaithful with my friend.
00:13:11At this point,
00:13:12I had looked up Wade's background,
00:13:15found out that he was a felon.
00:13:17He had several records
00:13:21of stealing weapons
00:13:23and thieving
00:13:24and breaking into people's homes.
00:13:27And I believe he had a few drug charges as well.
00:13:31So I told the police,
00:13:32a felon stole my handgun,
00:13:35which then put a warrant out
00:13:36for his arrest in the state of Florida.
00:13:39So I called my friend's phone.
00:13:41I called his phone.
00:13:42They wouldn't answer me for several hours.
00:13:44Eventually they did
00:13:46and they told me
00:13:47that they were going to Texas.
00:13:49I was very angry.
00:13:52The police couldn't extradite him
00:13:54or anything like that.
00:13:56So I had to somehow get him back to Florida.
00:14:05Late December,
00:14:06I get a phone call from Wade
00:14:09and he is like,
00:14:10I am so sorry.
00:14:13I want to come home.
00:14:15And all I had in my head was revenge.
00:14:19I agreed to pay for his bus ticket
00:14:21and I called the police
00:14:22and I said,
00:14:23I have him coming back
00:14:25and you guys have a warrant.
00:14:26So if I get him to my house,
00:14:28will you come get him?
00:14:29And they said,
00:14:30sure.
00:14:33I picked him up from the bus station.
00:14:35He had told me
00:14:36that he had started doing cocaine.
00:14:40I don't do drugs.
00:14:41I've never done drugs.
00:14:43But now we were sitting in the car
00:14:46and he was trying to like
00:14:48get a pen apart
00:14:50because he was trying to use it
00:14:51as a crack pipe.
00:14:53When he couldn't get it apart,
00:14:54he was freaking out.
00:14:56He was trying to like break it.
00:14:58He was like jabbing stuff in it.
00:15:00And I was like,
00:15:00what it like,
00:15:01you're being really aggressive.
00:15:03And that's the first time
00:15:04I ever like felt fear from him.
00:15:07I thought he was going to
00:15:08actually put his hands on me.
00:15:11I brought him back to my house,
00:15:13called the police.
00:15:15They said,
00:15:15we need you to try to get him
00:15:17to come outside.
00:15:19So I went outside.
00:15:20There was like 15 cop cars.
00:15:23There was dogs.
00:15:24The cops had shotguns.
00:15:25And I was like,
00:15:26oh my gosh,
00:15:27this is terrifying.
00:15:29So I called him
00:15:30and I said,
00:15:31can you bring me my car keys?
00:15:32I need to get something
00:15:33out of my car.
00:15:35So he came outside.
00:15:38And the cops
00:15:39put shotguns in his face
00:15:41and took him down
00:15:42and dragged him
00:15:44into the car.
00:15:47After Wade was arrested,
00:15:48he called me from jail
00:15:50begging for me
00:15:52to bail him out.
00:15:53And I was like,
00:15:54absolutely not.
00:15:55I think I let him
00:15:57sit in there
00:15:57for like four days,
00:15:59maybe.
00:16:01And eventually,
00:16:02he broke down my walls
00:16:03by crying and begging.
00:16:06I bailed him out.
00:16:08But I told him
00:16:09I didn't want him
00:16:09coming back to my house.
00:16:10We were going to figure
00:16:11something out,
00:16:12but it's not going to be
00:16:13at the house.
00:16:14So that's when I suggested
00:16:15that maybe he should
00:16:17go to a rehab.
00:16:20And he told me
00:16:21I have a friend
00:16:23who agreed to take me
00:16:24to a rehab in the Keys.
00:16:29Wade and I
00:16:30continued talking.
00:16:32He would go missing,
00:16:33you know,
00:16:33like for like a day or two.
00:16:34And then I'd write him
00:16:35and I'd be like,
00:16:36hey, stranger.
00:16:37And then he would be like,
00:16:38I'm so sorry.
00:16:39I've been so busy.
00:16:41But in January,
00:16:43I moved to the Keys
00:16:45with my sister.
00:16:47I knew that it was
00:16:49going to be a while
00:16:49before I could see him again.
00:16:53After I moved,
00:16:54I was posting pictures
00:16:56on, you know,
00:16:57Snapchat about us
00:16:58being in Key Largo.
00:17:00And Wade called me.
00:17:04What's up?
00:17:05When can I come down there?
00:17:07Because, listen,
00:17:08so, you know,
00:17:09I'm looking at jobs
00:17:10down there.
00:17:11I'm looking at jobs here.
00:17:12I don't want to get a job here
00:17:13and be settled here.
00:17:15But listen, straight up,
00:17:17I would rather come down there
00:17:18and be with you.
00:17:20He was like,
00:17:21can I come live with you?
00:17:22Can I come be with you?
00:17:24And I was like,
00:17:25yeah, sure.
00:17:27Because I obviously
00:17:28wanted to be with him, too.
00:17:30Then he told me,
00:17:32okay, I'll be there
00:17:33in a few hours.
00:17:39Wade and I needed
00:17:39to get to the Keys
00:17:40to meet up with
00:17:41this supposed person
00:17:42that was going to
00:17:43help him with a rehab.
00:17:45But I didn't have any money
00:17:46because over the course
00:17:47of our relationship,
00:17:48he had pretty much
00:17:49strained me dry.
00:17:50I had like a quarter
00:17:51of a tank,
00:17:52so there's no physical way.
00:17:53That's a three-hour drive.
00:17:56He was panicking
00:17:58at this point.
00:18:02We had gotten
00:18:03in an argument,
00:18:03so I got out of the car
00:18:04at a stoplight.
00:18:05He was driving.
00:18:06I didn't want to deal with it.
00:18:07I said, take my car
00:18:08to the Keys.
00:18:08I don't care.
00:18:10I felt like there was
00:18:11something seriously
00:18:12off with him,
00:18:13and I was afraid.
00:18:15That's when things
00:18:17started to go downhill.
00:18:20So I started walking.
00:18:22He drove around the block
00:18:25and attempted to hit me
00:18:26with my own car.
00:18:28And told me
00:18:29to get back in.
00:18:31I was really scared.
00:18:34But I got back
00:18:35in the car.
00:18:37And as soon as I did that,
00:18:39he started strangling me
00:18:40with both hands.
00:18:42I froze.
00:18:43I didn't know what to do.
00:18:45I was like in full panic mode.
00:18:46This person that I thought
00:18:47loved me
00:18:48was putting his hands on me.
00:18:51I was like clawing
00:18:52at his arms.
00:18:54And somewhere
00:18:55he had gotten
00:18:56a pocket knife.
00:18:58So he pushed me
00:18:59onto the floorboard
00:19:00and he took
00:19:01the pocket knife
00:19:03and he cut
00:19:04through my shirt
00:19:06and my sports bra
00:19:07and cut it off
00:19:08completely
00:19:09and held the knife
00:19:10to the back of my neck.
00:19:11And he said,
00:19:12you need to stay there
00:19:13and if you get up,
00:19:14I'm going to stab you.
00:19:17And he used
00:19:18my sports bra
00:19:19and my shirt
00:19:20and he tied
00:19:21my hands together
00:19:23and started driving.
00:19:27He told me
00:19:28if I picked my head up,
00:19:29if I did anything,
00:19:30he was going
00:19:31to kill me.
00:19:33At one point,
00:19:34he punched me in the face
00:19:37and he told me,
00:19:39get out of the car,
00:19:40don't look at anything,
00:19:41and go to the back seat.
00:19:43So I did.
00:19:45And when I got
00:19:46into the back seat,
00:19:48he ripped off my shorts
00:19:50and he sexually assaulted me.
00:19:54And when he was done,
00:19:56he pushed me
00:19:57on the floor
00:19:58in the back
00:19:59between the seats
00:20:01and he took
00:20:03the laundry
00:20:04that I had
00:20:06and he covered me
00:20:08with all the dirty laundry.
00:20:09I thought I was
00:20:10going to die 100%.
00:20:12And then he met up
00:20:13with somebody
00:20:15and sold my phone
00:20:16for 50 bucks
00:20:18all while I'm
00:20:19in the back seat
00:20:19of the car
00:20:20underneath dirty laundry,
00:20:22bounding gags
00:20:22and bleeding.
00:20:25He ended up driving
00:20:27for several hours.
00:20:32It was like 2 a.m.
00:20:34and then I said,
00:20:35we're supposed to be
00:20:36meeting up with your friend,
00:20:36so shouldn't I be
00:20:38sitting in the front seat
00:20:39with you?
00:20:40Because if I'm sitting
00:20:41in the back,
00:20:42it's going to look
00:20:43kind of weird.
00:20:44And he's like,
00:20:44yeah, you're right,
00:20:45but I want you
00:20:46on the floorboard
00:20:46until we get there.
00:20:52And then when we got
00:20:53close enough
00:20:53to where his friend was,
00:20:54he let me sit up
00:20:55on the seat.
00:20:56He said,
00:20:57don't look at her
00:20:59because I don't want
00:21:00her to see your face.
00:21:05Wade pulled up
00:21:05to the gas station
00:21:07around like
00:21:082 o'clock
00:21:08in the morning.
00:21:10He went to the back seat,
00:21:12grabbed his backpack.
00:21:14I didn't see anything
00:21:15off about Kelly.
00:21:17I didn't see anything
00:21:18off about him either.
00:21:20And we went
00:21:21back to my house.
00:21:25What he told me
00:21:27was that
00:21:27she was just doing
00:21:29him a favor,
00:21:30dropping him off.
00:21:31If I knew that
00:21:33he did anything
00:21:34to her,
00:21:34if I would have
00:21:36seen her
00:21:37bloody bruised
00:21:38or anything like that,
00:21:39like,
00:21:39I would not have
00:21:41taken him
00:21:41to my house.
00:21:44I was just in the keys
00:21:45with my car
00:21:47and no phone,
00:21:49no nothing.
00:21:49And I just wanted
00:21:50to go home.
00:21:53I went like
00:21:54120 the entire way.
00:21:57I went to my mom's
00:21:58house,
00:21:59woke her up
00:22:00at 4 a.m.
00:22:02And she turned
00:22:03on the light
00:22:04and saw my face
00:22:05and we called
00:22:05the police.
00:22:07The Palm Beach County
00:22:08Sheriff's Office
00:22:09was in charge
00:22:10of the investigation
00:22:11and Detective Potter
00:22:12was put on
00:22:13the case
00:22:13against Wade.
00:22:21My name is
00:22:22Detective Potter.
00:22:23I'm with the
00:22:23Palm Beach County
00:22:23Sheriff's Office,
00:22:24the Special Victims Unit.
00:22:27One time in the car
00:22:28you said that's
00:22:29when he assaulted you.
00:22:30What do you mean
00:22:30by assaulting you?
00:22:33He had sex with me
00:22:34without my consent.
00:22:36Explain that to me.
00:22:37Help me understand
00:22:38what you mean.
00:22:39I pulled my pants
00:22:40down.
00:22:40And
00:22:42stuck it in
00:22:43without my consent.
00:22:44Stuck what?
00:22:45His penis.
00:22:47Right before
00:22:48he tied me up.
00:22:49Okay.
00:22:50Did he use a condom?
00:22:51No.
00:22:51Did he say anything?
00:22:52No.
00:22:53Okay.
00:22:55And then he hit me
00:22:55in the face
00:22:58and he bit my cheek
00:23:00and he bit my ear.
00:23:03Did you feel like
00:23:04he was going to kill you?
00:23:05Did he mention it?
00:23:06Do you think he has
00:23:07the ability to kill you?
00:23:08Yeah, when he choked me
00:23:09it felt like he was
00:23:10going to kill me.
00:23:12And he just kept
00:23:13threatening to
00:23:14stab me 30 times
00:23:16and throw me in a ditch
00:23:16so I thought
00:23:17he was going to do it.
00:23:20When I went to the police
00:23:21I thought
00:23:22that
00:23:24I was
00:23:26doing the best thing
00:23:27and that I was
00:23:28going to get justice
00:23:29for what had happened
00:23:30to me.
00:23:31I was happy
00:23:32to give them
00:23:33all this information
00:23:33and DNA
00:23:34and everything else.
00:23:57Cool.
00:24:01All right, brother.
00:24:02All right, yes, sir.
00:24:06Have any police officials
00:24:07involved in this case
00:24:08coerced, threatened
00:24:09or otherwise
00:24:10forced you
00:24:11to give me a statement?
00:24:12No, sir.
00:24:12Absolutely not.
00:24:12Are you making a statement
00:24:13of your own free will?
00:24:14Absolutely.
00:24:15Yes, sir.
00:24:15All right, now
00:24:17you know why you're here.
00:24:18I do know why we're here.
00:24:19You're a suspect in the case.
00:24:20Sure.
00:24:20Because she had called
00:24:21and said you did
00:24:22some ugly thing.
00:24:22I understand.
00:24:23She's my victim.
00:24:25I'm working for her.
00:24:26You've got to realize that.
00:24:28I know.
00:24:28But I do have to give you
00:24:30the option to tell me,
00:24:32hey, I didn't kidnap,
00:24:34I didn't rape,
00:24:35and I didn't assault that woman.
00:24:36Yeah.
00:24:37And I have to believe you.
00:24:38Yeah.
00:24:39You see what I'm saying?
00:24:40Yeah.
00:24:41So with that said,
00:24:43did you kidnap
00:24:45or did you take it
00:24:45to the Keys
00:24:46to Key Largo
00:24:46against her will?
00:24:47No.
00:24:49Listen,
00:24:49and let me just tell you,
00:24:50Detective Potter,
00:24:51I need to say this.
00:24:52I've caused her no harm
00:24:53physically,
00:24:54nothing, dude.
00:24:55I haven't done nothing
00:24:56ever
00:24:57in my ever
00:24:58since I've known her.
00:25:00That's all I need to hear.
00:25:01You know that
00:25:02and I know that.
00:25:03You know what I'm saying?
00:25:04She said he beats me,
00:25:05he does this,
00:25:05he does that.
00:25:06You know,
00:25:06and I'm like,
00:25:07well,
00:25:07I just don't know.
00:25:09Yeah.
00:25:09I'm not doubting you, man.
00:25:11You're doing great.
00:25:11I don't know.
00:25:12No, you're doing great
00:25:13and you're a smart man.
00:25:14You know,
00:25:15you're on the right track.
00:25:16But you know why we're here.
00:25:19She wants this to go quick
00:25:21because this is an ulterior motive,
00:25:23which sucks
00:25:24because she is my victim,
00:25:25so I've got to give her
00:25:26100% of my,
00:25:27my abilities.
00:25:28But I ain't putting
00:25:29the wrong man in jail.
00:25:31I'll be damned if I do that.
00:25:32That's all I want, dude.
00:25:34Like, I just want her
00:25:34to stop, man.
00:25:36Please, like,
00:25:36that's all I need.
00:25:37That'll never happen
00:25:38from this department.
00:25:38Thank you so much.
00:25:39Honestly, thank you.
00:25:41None of our people
00:25:41are going to do that.
00:25:42Yeah, thank you so much, dude.
00:25:47I did find out that eventually
00:25:48he did get a swab
00:25:50from Wade for DNA.
00:25:51Both sides.
00:25:52Get it good.
00:25:53Both sides a few seconds,
00:25:54okay?
00:25:55Mm-hmm.
00:25:56And he asked if he would do
00:25:59a lie detector test.
00:26:01Wade declined.
00:26:05And for whatever reason,
00:26:06the detective was like,
00:26:08okay, that's fine.
00:26:09If you know anybody
00:26:09that needs a personal trainer,
00:26:11I'm a great one.
00:26:13All right.
00:26:13Thank you, man.
00:26:17He closed the case
00:26:19without getting the DNA back
00:26:21and just said,
00:26:23I have no proof
00:26:26and this is just like
00:26:27a he said, she said
00:26:28type of thing.
00:26:29There was no witnesses.
00:26:31I begged for him
00:26:33to not close the case.
00:26:35I was like,
00:26:36you're a detective.
00:26:36You're supposed to be
00:26:37protecting me.
00:26:39From a young age,
00:26:40you're taught to go to police
00:26:41when you need help.
00:26:42And I did that
00:26:44and nothing was done.
00:26:46I was failed as a victim
00:26:48and a sexual assault victim
00:26:58living in my sister's house.
00:27:01It was going pretty good.
00:27:02But like a week or so later,
00:27:06my sister and I
00:27:07got into an argument
00:27:07and she told me
00:27:09that I had to leave
00:27:10and obviously Wade
00:27:12had to go with me.
00:27:14But where I was going,
00:27:16Wade couldn't go with me.
00:27:19Wade told me he had a friend
00:27:22that he was going to go with.
00:27:26After I moved,
00:27:27we talked on the phone
00:27:29and we were messaging
00:27:30and everything
00:27:31and then I couldn't
00:27:33get a hold of him.
00:27:34The phone was off.
00:27:36The messages weren't going through.
00:27:39And I just realized
00:27:40that he ghosted me.
00:27:48One of my long-time zoo friends
00:27:51had reached out to me
00:27:52and said that
00:27:52one of her friends
00:27:53was dating Wade
00:27:55and then she told me
00:27:56that it was a guy.
00:27:58And I was like,
00:27:59wait, what?
00:28:06I was in Inverness, Florida
00:28:09working on a carnival
00:28:10when I first noticed
00:28:12a hot guy
00:28:13working at a pizza stand.
00:28:27In 2019,
00:28:28I was living in an RV
00:28:31traveling on a carnival.
00:28:35I was working
00:28:36at a bungee jump
00:28:37at the carnival.
00:28:39I saw this new guy
00:28:41that I'd never recognized before
00:28:43and I was like,
00:28:44wow, he's like,
00:28:45pretty good looking.
00:28:46I just told my friend,
00:28:48I was like,
00:28:48I think that I'm going
00:28:49to give him my number.
00:28:51So I wrote my number
00:28:53on a napkin
00:28:53and just left it there
00:28:54at the stand
00:28:55that he worked in.
00:28:58And a couple days went by
00:29:00and I felt someone
00:29:01tap on my shoulder.
00:29:02He just said,
00:29:03I'm Wade
00:29:04and da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
00:29:06And I was like,
00:29:06OK, cool.
00:29:07I'm Christopher.
00:29:09He's like,
00:29:10I need that number again.
00:29:11And I was like,
00:29:11oh, OK.
00:29:12So,
00:29:14and I just put it
00:29:15in his phone.
00:29:19that night he messaged me and he's like so I just got in a fight with the girl that I'm
00:29:26with
00:29:27and she kicked me out and he's like I have nowhere to go I was just like yeah I have
00:29:32a couch I mean
00:29:32you can sleep on the couch or whatever and he's like well I don't want to sleep on the couch
00:29:37I'm like well you can sleep wherever you want I don't care I met Wade on like a Tuesday or
00:29:43Wednesday and then like maybe that following Sunday night Wade moved into my RV Wade said that
00:29:56he was straight when I met him but I was like it just seems a little sketchy like if you're
00:30:00straight
00:30:00you don't move into a guy's house with a guy and then want to sleep in his bed maybe like
00:30:07a week
00:30:07had went by and then we ended up going out and had some drinks and then I was feeling pretty
00:30:16good
00:30:16so then I think that was the first time usually after the first time like you sleep together
00:30:24either it goes well or it you never hear from that person again like that's just how it goes
00:30:29but then he still was living with me so
00:30:38two weeks after he'd moved in he had asked if I wanted to make it Facebook official
00:30:46I was very surprised because he was so skeptical about being with a guy
00:30:52and this was my first relationship with a guy
00:30:57we enjoyed being together we did a lot of stuff together we had fun
00:31:01and then after that was our last fair I was like well I'm gonna go home to my mom's house
00:31:07for a little
00:31:08bit and just park my trailer there so I can spend a little time with her before I figure out
00:31:13what I'm
00:31:13gonna do so we ended up doing that one night me Wade my mom and a few friends went out
00:31:22to a bar
00:31:22and they thought he was hot I mean obviously and they thought he was cool because he's good smooth talker
00:31:29you know
00:31:33one night Wade is just like oh we should get some drugs then like have fun we just chill at
00:31:38the house and
00:31:39like um and I was like okay cool I'll call up this dude that I used to know
00:31:44and this guy like I don't know what he gave us like ended up giving us like bath salts or
00:31:50something
00:31:52in the middle of the night Wade is slipping out and he's just like oh my god somebody's trying to
00:31:58break in the house
00:31:58someone's trying to break in the house I'm like nobody's trying to break in the house go to bed
00:32:02so then like a few hours later he ends up waking me up again well this time he's like standing
00:32:08over
00:32:08my bed with a knife Wade said if somebody breaks in the house I'm gonna slit your throat before I
00:32:15slit
00:32:15theirs and I was like that pissed me off so then I ended up like getting up out of bed
00:32:20and like we got
00:32:20in a fight I pushed him and got crazy while he had a knife in his hand and so then
00:32:27he ended up like cut my
00:32:28chest and cut my hand for like four hours they wouldn't let me get up and I would try to
00:32:34get
00:32:34up or even then they like literally was choking me it was crazy I had like these sliding glass doors
00:32:40in
00:32:40my RV like that covered my closet and he ended up like throwing me through there and then it broke
00:32:46the
00:32:47glass so then that ended up cutting me more so now I'm like really bleeding and I was like oh
00:32:52my gosh
00:32:55then he ran out of the house so as soon as he like left I like locked my door
00:33:02my heart was beating so fast it was like forever
00:33:07after he stabbed me I didn't call the police unless someone's dead there's no reason to call the cops
00:33:15I um ended up taking an Advil PM and I got under my kitchen table and I just slept under
00:33:20there
00:33:30I wake up like the next day to my sister like banging on my door Wade had ended up getting
00:33:38a hold of my sister my sister calmed the situation down and like he showed back up with blood all
00:33:46over
00:33:46him and um apologized he seemed sincere and he sounded like he was sorry so I said after that
00:33:56if you're with me like there's no more drinking no more smoking like you're not even smoking cigarettes
00:34:02I don't care
00:34:10Wade had found this job on Indeed that sounded different and more interesting than what I had
00:34:16going on and then we moved to Key West like two days later he had lived down there prior
00:34:24so he seemed to have like a little familiarity with it but I didn't I would say maybe two weeks
00:34:30after we had arrived in the Keys I found out that Wade was like going around and telling people that
00:34:36we
00:34:36were cousins and I felt like Wade was embarrassed about our relationship I didn't want to be in a
00:34:45relationship where I had to hide anything so I kicked him out then I just packed up and left
00:34:57I found out that Wade had been dating Chris
00:35:02and I wanted to reach out and warn Chris about everything
00:35:07he had told me that he had kicked out recently and he had attempted to stab him he told me
00:35:14everything
00:35:15about how things had gone great in the beginning and then just went way south very fast just like
00:35:21with mine after that I started reaching out to all the people I could find that had dated Wade and
00:35:30that he
00:35:30had hurt and I started telling my story on Instagram and Tick Tock so this is my lip he busted
00:35:38my lip open
00:35:39he busted my lip open these are the ligature marks on my hands this is the marks from
00:35:44being strangled posting videos about Wade and what he did to me and the other women and men should not
00:35:55hide and they should
00:35:57tell their story. And if anyone ever needed someone to talk to, they could message me.
00:36:04Wade's biological father reached out to me. I had no idea who he was. He told me,
00:36:12don't go back to him. He's done this before. And hearing that from his father really solidified
00:36:20that I cannot ever go back to this man, which is part of the reason why I was so adamant
00:36:26about
00:36:26helping other people to stay away from him. Several months after I started posting on social
00:36:40media, I got a message on Instagram from somebody saying that his friend Mila had started dating
00:36:47Wade and they needed help to get her away from him because he was already abusing her.
00:36:57They sent me pictures of her covered in bruises, like way worse than I was. So they gave me her
00:37:04information. I reached out to her and she told me from the beginning, he was putting his hands on
00:37:09her, but she loved him and she wanted to try to make it work. Seeing how he was so easily
00:37:18able to
00:37:19do what he did to me and to Chris and to Mila and to everybody else, I knew it was
00:37:24going to escalate.
00:37:26I was begging Mila to leave him. I told her everything that he did to me.
00:37:33I was like, please get away from this man. He's going to kill you.
00:37:45911, what is your emergency? There's a man grabbing a woman in our parking lot. She's yelling no,
00:37:51no, no when she's on the ground. There's a man who appears to be a posthumant woman.
00:37:59Now female fighting in the parking lot. We do have a call and we have officers en route, sir.
00:38:08The Fort Myers Police Department responded to Mila Spa for a domestic violence fight where witnesses had
00:38:15told the Fort Myers police officers that Wade Wilson had punched her in the face.
00:38:21What's his name? Wade Wilson. He just got out of jail.
00:38:26This guy's a nightmare. Like, she spent the night at my house because there was,
00:38:35he took her car. So she spent the night at my house on the sofa and he was calling her
00:38:41up.
00:38:41You're not at his house. You're not at me. He's a fucking liar. I'm like,
00:38:45she is, bro. She's right here on my bed because you took her car and won't give it back. Now
00:38:50he
00:38:50has her car, keys to her fucking place, didn't give any of that back. I'm like, Mila, I gotta get
00:38:55rid
00:38:55of this fucking guy. When they responded there, Melissa Montanez gave a vehicle description of the car
00:39:02that Wade was driving. Wade Wilson was supposed to come to her spa and bring her back her car that
00:39:10he
00:39:10had taken the night before. And instead of showing up in her car, he showed up in a car that
00:39:16she did
00:39:16not recognize. Black Nissan Versa, white male, no shirt, covered in tattoos.
00:39:24They end up locating the car with Wade Wilson in it at a Joe's Crab Shack just sitting in the
00:39:31parking lot.
00:39:48How you doing? Good. How are you doing? What's going on, man?
00:39:53You're waiting on your girlfriend? Oh, okay. That's no problem. No, I got a call. Somebody was sitting in
00:39:59their car and everything like that. No, we don't do this possible. Oh, okay. She's on her way now.
00:40:06Yes, we don't do this possible right now. Mm-hmm. Okay.
00:40:12I'm going to have you step out of the car and I'm going to detain you. Not arrest. Detain you
00:40:19right now.
00:40:20What happened? Hmm? Because of the battery this morning.
00:40:26There wasn't any battery? Okay. Give me the... Let me see the keys to the car.
00:40:37Wade? Sir, I need...
00:40:39It's okay.
00:40:40Right now. Let's go ahead.
00:40:42Unless you can see the car.
00:40:44Here.
00:40:46All right, please. Just wait till my partner gets here.
00:40:52L41. Gonna need a couple more units. Don't go anywhere. Hey.
00:40:59Alpha TV. Camera L1 in there.
00:41:02Just taking off 4-Meyers.
00:41:04Just ran a stop sign. We're going up towards McGregor.
00:41:09Do we have, like, an address of where this guy lives or anything?
00:41:14Negative, sir. We don't even know who that car belongs to.
00:41:17I'm off of him. He signaled 12. It's only battery charge.
00:41:27When Wade Wilson took off from the scene, there was a very brief pursuit before that was terminated.
00:41:34Wade Wilson was only being investigated by the Fort Myers Police Department at that time for a
00:41:40misdemeanor battery charge. Pursuing someone endangering the lives of the public for a
00:41:47misdemeanor battery charge is not something that any agency would do.
00:41:57We know that Wade went to Joe's Crab Shack and then he left there and then went back over the
00:42:05bridge,
00:42:06back over into the Cape, and went to Mateo's Graphics, where Wade had approached Joshua Lukic,
00:42:12seeking to get help just to get out of town as quickly as he possibly could.
00:42:20911, what is your emergency?
00:42:24I have a very unstable man that's at my office. He's got tattoos. He's shirtless.
00:42:34He said he just hurt a girl. His name was Wade.
00:42:39Wade. Yeah, I don't know his last name, but I know his name's Wade. He's just a cordial friend of
00:42:45a
00:42:45friend associate, and he just did something bad, I guess, and is running from somebody,
00:42:50but I need to get him out of my place. I just left. I'm right around the block. I don't
00:42:55feel safe with
00:42:56this guy there. He won't leave. When the Cape Coral Police Department arrived to meet with Josh Lukic,
00:43:05officers tried to locate Wade inside the business, but he had fled the area on foot.
00:43:11Cape Coral, at that point, wasn't even aware of what had happened at Mila Spa in Fort Myers.
00:43:17There would have not been any communication or knowledge between the two agencies.
00:43:22The detectives began investigating the vehicle that was located there at the business. They
00:43:27determined that it belonged to a young lady by the name of Christine Melton. Christine Melton was
00:43:33then placed on their radar, and they began to try to locate Ms. Melton. They began running the
00:43:40driver's license information for her, determining who the emergency contact was, which happened to have
00:43:45been a young lady by the name of Stephanie Johnson. They reached out to Ms. Johnson. Ms. Johnson had
00:43:50told them that the night before, she and Christine Melton met Wade Wilson at the Buddha, which is a local
00:43:59establishment here in Fort Myers. They were in the process of closing down the Buddha. It was about
00:44:05two o'clock in the morning, but yet they didn't want to stop partying. So they decided to move over
00:44:14to
00:44:14Ms. Melton's residence. Stephanie had to get her child to school, so she left Christine alone with Wade
00:44:21Wilson at that point in time.
00:44:26The Cape Coral Police Department had responded to Christine Melton's home in South Cape Coral.
00:44:32When law enforcement arrived, they knocked at the residence. They didn't receive a response,
00:44:37so they ultimately wound up reaching the door. When officers went inside, they had located Christine
00:44:45Melton wrapped up in some blankets and a carpet. Christine Melton was choked to death.
00:44:52Right about that same time, we received a call from the Fort Myers Police Department.
00:44:58They had been investigating the domestic incident with Melissa Montanez and Wade Wilson fleeing the scene
00:45:07in Christine Melton's car. The homicide of Christine Melton, then the domestic violence incident with
00:45:13Melissa Montanez happened right on the border between the two cities. We are working two investigations that
00:45:21are separate from each other at the same time with the same suspect. The search was on at that point
00:45:29to find Wade Wilson.
00:45:33In 2019, I was working for the Cape Coral Police Department as a detective.
00:45:39When we found out that Mila was the girlfriend of our current suspect, then that's when they requested,
00:45:46hey, detect me, you know, go to the Fort Myers Police Department, go speak with Mila, see what information
00:45:52you can get from her. Most importantly, a location for Wade Wilson at the time, and what relationship
00:45:59Wade Wilson had with Miss Christine Melton.
00:46:07How do you know, Wade? How long have you known?
00:46:10Boyfriend, six months.
00:46:14He's been in jail, incarcerated three and a half of this. He beat me up, and I put him in
00:46:19jail here,
00:46:20and then when he had a charge on West Palm for second degree felony stolen property,
00:46:28they released him, and then me, stupid enough, went down five days ago and got him.
00:46:34There's a gang of exes that keep saying, Mila, don't go back, Mila, don't go back.
00:46:37Exes of his.
00:46:39Yeah. Kelly was friends with Chris, and like, it's just like all these people that link up together
00:46:43and just share information. Everybody told me that this would happen.
00:46:49I have a busted mouth, so I'm talking funny. Yeah, he busted it this morning. It's okay.
00:46:54He punches me as hard as he can right here, like in the face, and somehow when he punched like
00:47:00that,
00:47:01I was able to kind of like maneuver around the back and run. And that's how I got away,
00:47:06and then he jumped in the car and left. You haven't seen him though since then?
00:47:11No. Now let's rewind. Okay.
00:47:23Last night, we went to Buda, roughly 11-ish.
00:47:28What happened there?
00:47:29We ordered a few beers. Well, he's wandering around talking to people. You know, he's very social.
00:47:34And then I pretty much sit at the table watching the band. And yeah, we just hang with friends and
00:47:40stuff like that. And then, um, that's when he wanted to go get drugs at the drug house or something.
00:47:47I said, no, I don't want to go to a drug house. You know, I guess he knew that I
00:47:51wasn't going to do
00:47:51that. He took the keys. And then I see the Hellcat drive off. He leaves the Buddha in your car
00:47:57by himself.
00:47:58No, he can't drive a stick shift. So he had somebody else with him.
00:48:03I don't know. I don't know. I feel like it was a car full of people.
00:48:08And in the morning, he was blowing up my phone. And he told me that the Hellcat ran out of
00:48:12gas
00:48:12somewhere. So I said, okay, let me, um, let me come get the keys. So I said, meet me at
00:48:18the spa.
00:48:20He pulls in a black car. I'm wondering whose car it is.
00:48:23Were you ever inside that car?
00:48:25No, I was not getting that car.
00:48:26Never made it.
00:48:27I would have died if I would have gotten that car.
00:48:30Speaking with Mila, we were able to put Wade Wilson at the Buddha the same night as Miss
00:48:37Mountain. And we were able to connect the charges for the battery domestic violence
00:48:43with the homicide investigation.
00:48:46I'm going to be straight up and honest with you. We don't have a body.
00:48:50Oh my God, stop it. Are you really serious?
00:48:55Did you see him talking to any females at the club last night?
00:48:57No.
00:48:59Was he talking just to random people all over the place?
00:49:03Guys, he's very social.
00:49:05If I wouldn't have went and got him, this would have never happened.
00:49:15I wish I would have just left him down there.
00:49:18While speaking with Mila, I asked her if I could see her phone.
00:49:22And I noticed that he had called her several times throughout the day of October 7th
00:49:29from different numbers.
00:49:33When we recovered the black Nissan belonging to Christine Melton,
00:49:37we ended up serving a search warrant on the vehicle.
00:49:42And we did locate two cell phones inside of this black Nissan.
00:49:48When we recovered the phones, we are not able to just turn on cell phones and see who they belong
00:49:55to and start rummaging through them. To be able to go inside someone's cell phone requires a search
00:50:00warrant. And that takes time. And in a situation like this, time is important.
00:50:06So I was really playing a waiting game.
00:50:10While we were working on the Christine Melton case, that first day, where we get another case,
00:50:16we had received a call at the Cape Coral Police Department about a found purse,
00:50:21impossible missing woman. A police officer at a local elementary school had a parent come into the
00:50:30school and say, hey, I found this purse out in front of the school by the sidewalk.
00:50:35He looks in the wallet, gets the name and the address, and realizes that the owner of the purse,
00:50:41Diane Ruiz, lives just a couple of streets behind his school.
00:50:46The officer went to return the purse. And when he got to the home,
00:50:52he learned that Diane Ruiz was not there. Her son told our school resource officer that
00:50:59my mom is supposed to be at work.
00:51:07911, what is your emergency?
00:51:09I would like to file a missing person support.
00:51:12Okay, what's exactly going on, sir?
00:51:14Well, um, she was walking to work and never made it to work. Her purse was found,
00:51:23and she is nowhere to be found. Okay, and who is that to you?
00:51:28That is my fiancée. Does she have a phone?
00:51:33Yes, her phone is not in her purse that they found.
00:51:37In Diane's case, knowing that her cell phone was turned off and that she was not responding to any
00:51:42messages, I really wanted to get a hold of her cell phone records quickly. When I was speaking with
00:51:49another detective, she said, you know, Nick, what do you think the chances are that these two cases
00:51:54are related? And at that time, I said, I don't know, we're on opposite ends of the city. Nothing
00:52:01so far has said that Diane Ruiz or Christine Melton knew each other, and we could not come up with
00:52:09a
00:52:10connection between the two women. All at the same time, there's still a big piece of the Christine
00:52:17Melton case missing. Our suspect is still on the loose. We knew the general area that he was last
00:52:24in when he was at Mateo Graphics. That neighborhood was searched extensively and we had hoped that he
00:52:32was still in that general area. All of a sudden, that night on October 7th, we get a big break.
00:52:46We received the call from Wade Wilson's dad giving us a location of a house that he was hiding inside
00:52:54of in Cape Coral that was right down the street from Mateo Graphics.
00:53:00I said, what's going on? So he goes, you want me to tell you the truth? And I said, yeah.
00:53:06He said, I killed a girl last night. And I said, what? And he said, two. And he said, I
00:53:16choked the bitch.
00:53:18She said, dad, I'm a killer. I'm a killer. And I kill with my bare hands. He said, they'll find
00:53:26the
00:53:26first one. I know that, you know, he wouldn't detail what he did. And he laughed and he thought it
00:53:32was funny.
00:53:36And I said, where are you? He said, I got away. I found a house.
00:53:43Wade Wilson broke into a home nearby in northeast Cape Coral. Luckily, the couple that was living
00:53:50there had left the day before and went back to Ohio. Wade Wilson helped himself to some white claws,
00:53:57food and clothing. During that time, he ended up calling his biological father. We found out that
00:54:06his dad didn't have much of connection with Wade until he had reconnected when he was 18 years old
00:54:13and had started asking his parents for money. Wade had asked him whether or not he would assist him
00:54:22in getting out of town. The dad put out a ruse to indicate that, yeah, he would get him an
00:54:27Uber
00:54:27but he needed to know what the address was, where he was located. So at that point in time,
00:54:32the father let Cape Coral Police Department know where Wade Wilson was.
00:54:41When the task force got there, they then invited Mr. Wilson to come out.
00:54:46And that's how he was ultimately located and ultimately arrested.
00:54:50All right, man. Listen, I'm a nice guy. Okay. All right, good. So, all right,
00:54:56I'm going to take, I'm going to put some new handcuffs on you. If you want anything stupid,
00:55:00I'm going to slam you on your face. I said it.
00:55:03You can slam me in my face if you want to. I don't care. I can do nothing.
00:55:05All right. But you don't have to threaten me.
00:55:20I got a phone call from his dad saying I'm on the other line with the marshals and they have
00:55:30Wade
00:55:30surrounded and he murdered two women. Of course, I was like, are you serious?
00:55:40But deep down, I wasn't shocked at all. I knew that that's what he was capable of.
00:55:48After Wade Wilson was placed under arrest, the first interview with him went very quickly.
00:55:57He did not admit to knowing Christine Melton, did not admit to having anything to do with the
00:56:03homicide of Christine Melton. The next morning, an email came from Diane's cell phone carrier.
00:56:11At that point, I now have her cell phone records and I'm looking at the last calls or text messages
00:56:19that were made or came through. And when I had looked at the phone number, immediately my heart
00:56:26sank because I recognized the phone number that was being dialed belonging to the girlfriend of Wade
00:56:32Wilson. Wade Wilson was calling his girlfriend, Mila, from Diane Ruiz's phone. At that point,
00:56:40I knew that the Christine Melton case and the Diane Ruiz case were connected. So at this point,
00:56:47my strategy changes. I go from working a missing person case to working a possible homicide.
00:56:57A painful night for Southwest Florida family. Their loved one is missing. Diane Ruiz disappeared
00:57:03yesterday morning on her way to work. Her purse found nearby. This torture is just sitting back here
00:57:09and just waiting. It's killing us. It really is killing us. Brandon Cuellar and his family are still
00:57:15reeling from the sudden disappearance of his mother. I want my mother to come home. That's my mother.
00:57:23After getting the phone records, I was able to go into the elementary school and take a look at the
00:57:28surveillance video from the time where the purse was dropped off. And now I see Christine Melton's car
00:57:36in the same spot where Diane Ruiz's purse was located.
00:57:40I also obtained GPS and longitude latitude coordinates for every spot that her phone was pinging. Diane's
00:57:52phone had traveled a lot within her neighborhood and then had traveled west on Pine Island Road. Pine Island
00:58:01Road is a lot of vacant lots, a lot of trees, bushes, wooded areas that you could potentially hide a
00:58:11body if you wanted to.
00:58:14I had believed that Diane Ruiz's body was somewhere located along Pine Island Road. We had
00:58:21canines out searching for her. We had side-by-side ATVs out looking for her. Squad cars, you name it,
00:58:30everybody was out looking.
00:58:41Within, I would say about two and a half days of searching, Wade Wilson's dad had another conversation
00:58:47with him while he was in the Lee County Jail.
00:58:59What's up, dad? What's up, boy? Hey, man, how you doing?
00:59:02I'm all right. You okay?
00:59:04Yeah, not really. How'd they? I found out how they found me.
00:59:07What? They said you. They said they found me because of you.
00:59:09What'd they say? They said you called them.
00:59:11Yeah. Did you? What do you think?
00:59:14Yeah. Yeah? Yeah. All right. How do you feel about that?
00:59:19Bad. Yeah. Yeah. I do, too. Yeah.
00:59:23Do you understand that? No. Why?
00:59:26Because why would you want me here? You know I'm going to be here.
00:59:28Wade, son, listen to me. I love you more than anything on this fucking earth.
00:59:33Yeah. And I'm going to be honest with you, son.
00:59:41You broke my heart. Yeah.
00:59:44When I say that to you, I don't mean that to make you feel like shit.
00:59:49But I say that to you because, you know, you came from me.
00:59:55Yeah.
00:59:55And the pain that you have caused, son, I can't even describe to you.
01:00:01Yeah.
01:00:02It's something that'll never be forgotten.
01:00:06But listen to me, son. We gotta fix it.
01:00:09Well, how do you want me to fix it?
01:00:11I'm here to help you fix it because I'm going to tell you why we gotta fix it.
01:00:15Three reasons.
01:00:18Yeah.
01:00:18That 15-year-old boy that's missing his fucking mom right now.
01:00:22Yeah.
01:00:23Who is about to fucking lose his shit because he's waiting on his fucking mom to walk back in that
01:00:28door.
01:00:28Yeah.
01:00:28We gotta fix it.
01:00:31That fiancé who's waiting on his wife to come home, we gotta fix it.
01:00:37Yeah.
01:00:37And the only way, Wade, that you are going to get any fucking leniency is to fix this shit, okay?
01:00:44Everybody in the state thinks you're a monster.
01:00:47Yeah, I know.
01:00:47Okay?
01:00:48So, yes, yes, you did some monstrous shit.
01:00:51Yeah.
01:00:52But you know what?
01:00:53You can show them that you had remorse and you fixed it, son.
01:00:57Did they put the story on the news and everything?
01:00:59Yeah.
01:01:00Yeah?
01:01:00Yeah.
01:01:01So, what do you want me to do?
01:01:02I mean, when?
01:01:04We gotta, we gotta, we gotta, we gotta, we gotta, we gotta sit in that, that lady home to her
01:01:09family, son.
01:01:10All right, dad.
01:01:10Okay?
01:01:11Right.
01:01:11She decided to go home to her family as painful as it's gonna be for those people.
01:01:16Yeah.
01:01:16Not knowing is harder for them.
01:01:19Yeah.
01:01:20And that little boy's been on that fucking news.
01:01:22Yeah.
01:01:23Just crying for his mama's son.
01:01:24Are you kidding me?
01:01:25No, dude, I'm not fucking kidding you, Wade.
01:01:27It's, it's fucking heartbreaking.
01:01:29Yeah.
01:01:30Okay?
01:01:30And this is what I don't understand, you know, and I don't, whatever.
01:01:34Was that, was that just rising in his pocket?
01:01:37Yeah.
01:01:38Yeah, I knew it, I knew it was.
01:01:40Yeah.
01:01:40And just, you know, you lost your goddamn mind.
01:01:44Yeah.
01:01:44Yeah, it was right.
01:01:45Okay?
01:01:46And my biggest fear was that you were gonna lose it and go on a rampage.
01:01:51And I just about did, that's what I was doing.
01:01:54I know, I know you were heading there.
01:01:55Yeah, I was, I was gonna do more.
01:01:57I know.
01:01:58How do you know, that's crazy you said that.
01:02:00You were right, you were right.
01:02:02I knew what you were going to do.
01:02:03Yeah, that's why I went, that's why after the first one, I said, okay, number two, then
01:02:07number three.
01:02:08Right.
01:02:08Yeah.
01:02:09Yes.
01:02:09That's why I said another, and you know what's crazy, son?
01:02:11What's that?
01:02:12Is the people's house that you went in.
01:02:13Yeah.
01:02:14They just left.
01:02:16No.
01:02:17They fucking just left.
01:02:18Just left.
01:02:19You're kidding me.
01:02:20No, I'm not kidding.
01:02:21Yeah, I believe it.
01:02:21You think what happened when you went in that fucking house?
01:02:23Oh, everybody.
01:02:25Right.
01:02:25Everybody.
01:02:26Okay.
01:02:29October the 10th was now the third day that we were looking for Diane Ruiz.
01:02:36All of the officers at our police department were still searching the Pine Island corridor.
01:02:44Two of our officers had taken a break from searching, and they were having lunch in a vacant field.
01:02:56While they were having lunch, one of our officers noticed a buzzard in the sky in the area.
01:03:07The buzzard ended up landing in a vacant field next to some pepper bushes.
01:03:14Buzzards are attracted to decomposing flesh.
01:03:19So the officer went into the pepper bushes in this vacant lot.
01:03:26And that's where he had located the body of Diane Ruiz.
01:03:36When the medical examiner had responded to the scene, Diane Ruiz had some marks on her body
01:03:43that looked like tire marks.
01:03:45However, it was really hard to tell from the naked eye any cause of death.
01:03:52While we were on scene, I get a phone call saying,
01:03:57hey, Wade Wilson wants to talk to you.
01:04:02What's going on?
01:04:03All right, Wade.
01:04:04My team's doing some french fries and a burger and then take the right where you want to go.
01:04:09French fries and a burger?
01:04:10That's all I want, bro.
01:04:12He wanted to trade a body for a meal.
01:04:17But Wade Wilson has no idea that we just located the body of Diane Ruiz.
01:04:23So do you want me to tell you the truth?
01:04:26Yeah.
01:04:27Sure.
01:04:28All right.
01:04:31Truth is, I was just randomly driving.
01:04:34I saw her walking about the road.
01:04:37Put the window down and I said, hey, do you know where the high school is?
01:04:40Where are the schools at?
01:04:41Could you show me?
01:04:42She got it in my car.
01:04:44That's all it's up.
01:04:45That's all it's up.
01:04:46Okay.
01:04:46Got her in my car.
01:04:48And then from there, we drove from school and I was going to drop her off.
01:04:51But I knew in my mind I was going to drop her off.
01:04:54She really wanted to get out of the pub.
01:04:56At this point, I could tell she was getting, I could sense your fear.
01:04:59I'm like, fuck her mind.
01:05:00I'm like, you're the prey.
01:05:02I can sense it.
01:05:04And she wanted to get out and I could just tell.
01:05:07So I was like, no, I'm just going to go ahead and just kill her.
01:05:09Wait.
01:05:14I grabbed my neck and choked her.
01:05:18She was probably in this for sure.
01:05:20Give her that and I brought her to her.
01:05:24I'm going to show you guys where she's at.
01:05:26And she was still alive and pushed her out of the park.
01:05:29And she tried to get out of the vehicle.
01:05:33So she was not alone anymore.
01:05:39Nothing like that.
01:05:44While talking with him, he's got really dark eyes.
01:05:48It's almost like that there was just like nothing there.
01:05:50There was no remorse, no empathy.
01:05:55This is what I think was fun.
01:05:56You know, I used my charm.
01:05:58I used my good looks.
01:05:59That's what I did with the first girl.
01:06:01And that's how I got her in her bed.
01:06:03And then look what happened to her.
01:06:04Same story.
01:06:05Same story with this.
01:06:07I just used my looks.
01:06:09Well, since you brought her out, let me ask you about that then.
01:06:12First girl.
01:06:13How'd that all happen?
01:06:15I met her at the park.
01:06:17Okay.
01:06:18Went up to her.
01:06:19Got it.
01:06:20Just like that?
01:06:21Several.
01:06:22Boats.
01:06:23Me, the girl, and her friend went back to her house where she just found out.
01:06:29After like 20 minutes of being at the house, her friend left.
01:06:33Okay.
01:06:34And then I killed her.
01:06:36How'd you kill her?
01:06:37I was strangled.
01:06:41And then where'd you go?
01:06:43Then I got in the car.
01:06:44I went to my girls first.
01:06:46That didn't work out right.
01:06:47And I was like, you know what?
01:06:49I've already done it once, man.
01:06:50What do you got?
01:06:52Randomly driving around.
01:06:53Randomly saw that girl walking.
01:06:55I was like, that's the one.
01:07:00I'm so crazy when I'm on drugs that the rage overcomes me.
01:07:04Am I thinking properly?
01:07:06And I just, I guess, you know what comes across my mind?
01:07:09Just murder.
01:07:10Just murder.
01:07:11Murder.
01:07:11Just kill.
01:07:12Kill.
01:07:12Kill.
01:07:14Are we going to go?
01:07:15You're going to take me to me.
01:07:16I'll show you the body of the bed.
01:07:17Yeah.
01:07:18You're going to go see.
01:07:18Fresh fries.
01:07:19Yeah.
01:07:20Let's go get this body.
01:07:21Come on.
01:07:22It's going to get dark.
01:07:22Hold on, man.
01:07:23Hold on.
01:07:25The fact that we had already located Diane, there was no reason for me to take him out of jail.
01:07:32Cave Coral Police tonight are confirming they consider Wade Wilson, who's in custody, seen here in a
01:07:37court appearance yesterday, a person of interest in the deaths of both these women.
01:07:42I started watching the news, and my heart dropped. Like, it had to have been someone else. It can't be
01:07:51him. Like, he's not that type of person. Like, yeah, he cheats, but he's not a murderer.
01:07:58Confirming they consider Wade Wilson.
01:08:00I turn on the news, and, like, it's literally Wade on the news. Like, Lee County murdered.
01:08:06Person of interest.
01:08:07I was like, oh, my gosh.
01:08:08The death of both these women.
01:08:09But looking back, the night Wade stabbed me could have ended up very differently. I could have been dead.
01:08:19A couple of months later, we were able to get DNA confirmation for both Diane Ruiz and Christine Melton.
01:08:27Wade Wilson's DNA was recovered from both crime scenes,
01:08:31and we were able to confirm that Wade Wilson sexually assaulted Diane Ruiz
01:08:38after he killed her.
01:08:42Grand jury officially indicted Wade Wilson on two counts of first-degree murder and the deaths of Ruiz and
01:08:48another woman, Christine Melton. Both women were killed within hours of each other in Cape Coral last month.
01:08:54These two women were preyed upon by the defendant, and their murders impacted their families and shook
01:09:02our community. The grand jury indictment comes out, and the public is very interested in this case.
01:09:09The media attention grew and grew and grew over time. This is not what we're used to,
01:09:16this type of just absolute random violence.
01:09:20Some people made a little bit of a weird connection between Wade Wilson and Cape Coral and Wade Wilson,
01:09:26the anti-hero, also known as Deadpool. Some people were calling him the Deadpool killer,
01:09:33using it in headlines, saying the Deadpool killer is going to trial.
01:09:36Any time we would have court, he'd be on the news, and people would see his face. And so,
01:09:42women started writing him, women started reaching out to him.
01:09:47I did a public records request for Wade Wilson's visitor log. There were hundreds of kiosk calls from women.
01:09:56Thank you for using GTL.
01:09:59Hi, baby.
01:10:01Hi, baby.
01:10:05What's up, baby?
01:10:07What's up?
01:10:08Hey, baby.
01:10:09Hey.
01:10:11Baby, what are you going to be wearing tomorrow?
01:10:14Maybe next one.
01:10:18Well, baby, that sounds like a good idea.
01:10:20Okay.
01:10:22During the time period up to the trial, Wade Wilson is changing his appearance while he's in jail,
01:10:29including adding tattoos on his face and head, such as a swastika.
01:10:35This grabs media attention, of course, and it just caused a media sensation.
01:10:40Wade Wilson.
01:10:41Wade Wilson.
01:10:41Wade Wilson.
01:10:42Wade Wilson.
01:10:42Wade Wilson's receiving an interesting number of messages from the outside.
01:10:46Wade Wilson.
01:10:47He's got 3,903 messages since June 12th of this year.
01:10:56He ate it up.
01:10:58He loved it.
01:10:59Every time he'd come to court,
01:11:01he'd look behind and see who was there watching him.
01:11:05He gained a following from all over the world
01:11:09that went on email writing campaigns for him and started GoFundMe pages for him.
01:11:17And he started collecting money basically for brutally killing two young women.
01:11:24You know, they say, they say that I'm the most sought after in the world right now.
01:11:32Oh, wow, really?
01:11:35The attention was very upsetting to the families.
01:11:39To just think that women could be attracted to and giving attention to this man that really was
01:11:45a monster and who upended their lives, that was a really difficult thing to deal with.
01:11:59I think one thing about this case that stands out is how justice can't be served without
01:12:07people that are willing to come in and testify.
01:12:09Do you know someone by the name of Wade Wilson?
01:12:11Yes, ma'am.
01:12:12How do you know Wade Wilson?
01:12:13He's my son.
01:12:15How old were you when you found out you were going to be his father?
01:12:1914 or 15.
01:12:20How old was his mother at the time?
01:12:22A year younger than me.
01:12:24Was he placed up for adoption?
01:12:26Yes, ma'am.
01:12:28Christine Melton was my best friend and my cousin until October 7th, 2019.
01:12:35Did you have any contact with her after you left for work that day?
01:12:38Um, a brief text message.
01:12:41Um, she, uh,
01:12:50She, uh...
01:12:51She, uh...
01:12:54She...
01:12:55She didn't think I'd give her a kiss goodbye.
01:13:00Had you?
01:13:01Of course.
01:13:05This was certainly a group effort of, of people in the community willing to come in and testify
01:13:11against someone who was so dangerous.
01:13:13And because of that, we were able to do what we did.
01:13:15We, the jury, find the defendant is guilty of first-degree murder.
01:13:21There are certain people who, I'll say it, they are poster children for the death penalty.
01:13:26And Wade Wilson is one of them.
01:13:29So our goal from the minute we knew what he had done to these two women was to receive a
01:13:37death
01:13:37penalty sentence.
01:13:40He killed for the sake of killing.
01:13:42That's what he wanted to do and that's why he did it.
01:13:45I don't think there was any ounce of remorse whatsoever.
01:13:48The totality of the circumstances warrants that the defendant,
01:13:51Wade Stephen Wilson, be sentenced to death for each count of first-degree murder.
01:13:55Count one, first-degree murder of Christine Melton.
01:13:58The defendant is hereby sentenced to death.
01:14:01Count four, first-degree murder of Diane Ruiz.
01:14:04The defendant is hereby sentenced to death.
01:14:09When I heard that he got the death penalty,
01:14:12all I could think of was if the Palm Beach County Sheriff's had done their job,
01:14:17these two women would probably still be here.
01:14:22So I filed a complaint against the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office
01:14:27for not thoroughly investigating my sexual assault.
01:14:31The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office did do an internal affairs investigation.
01:14:35At the end of the report, they did find that Detective Potter
01:14:38did not do a thorough investigation on the sexual assault of Kelly Matthews.
01:14:44Detective Potter was supposed to be suspended for three weeks,
01:14:46but he ended up only being suspended for two weeks.
01:14:49the victim is just not 0,000,000,000,000 ,000,000,000,000,000.
01:15:02The family is reallyён.
01:15:08The family is down hereby sentenced to three weeks,
01:15:10Álc's, you know, I mean, I mean just to be a nurse.
01:15:15And I mean-
01:15:16i have a great life assault is like such a dirty thing that no one wants to talk about it
01:15:25and i
01:15:27refused to be one of those people i'm not a victim i'm a survivor and i will always advocate for
01:15:35people that have gone through this and want to share their story and if they're too afraid to
01:15:42you know they can always reach out to me and i'll help them they shouldn't hide from this kind of
01:15:47stuff
