00:01:13Oh, my God.
00:01:15No, no, no, please, please, please.
00:02:07No, no, please, please.
00:02:27No, no, please, please.
00:02:46I've told you, Mr. Radin, the doctor will be with you shortly.
00:02:49Could you call him again, please, and tell him that I'm here?
00:02:51I can't disturb him while he has a patient.
00:02:54You know that, Mr. Radin.
00:03:05Hello, Michael.
00:03:07Why'd you come in?
00:03:21Why'd you come in?
00:03:23Sit down, Michael.
00:03:30You deliberately kept me waiting out there, didn't you?
00:03:32Of course I did, Michael.
00:03:36Your face, what happened to you?
00:03:37I don't know.
00:03:41It was there when I woke up this morning.
00:03:47It happened again last night.
00:03:51What happened again last night?
00:03:53It's no use talking to you.
00:03:59All right, Michael.
00:04:00I don't know.
00:04:02It's like so mixed up.
00:04:08It's like a nightmare.
00:04:10I remember a girl.
00:04:14And my hands were on her throat.
00:04:18I think I killed her.
00:04:31Can you tell me anything more about this dream?
00:04:34What about these?
00:04:36Did they happen in a dream?
00:04:38They could have been self-inflicted while you were asleep.
00:04:43Can't you understand this is not just another case of neurosis or psychosis?
00:04:48This is a living nightmare.
00:04:51And you don't want to help me.
00:04:54Michael, of course I want to help you.
00:04:57But you have to help, too.
00:05:00I'm cursed.
00:05:05I am cursed.
00:05:09Something you don't seem to be able to understand.
00:05:12Michael, you are a scientist.
00:05:15Now, is it scientific to jump to the conclusion
00:05:18that these nightmares are caused by a curse?
00:05:21Perhaps these nightmares are caused by some deeper emotional conflict?
00:05:29I need help.
00:05:32I'm like an addict.
00:05:36It's as if I were being hypnotized.
00:05:39Hypnotized?
00:05:40Well, who is hypnotizing you?
00:05:43The mask.
00:05:46Mask?
00:05:49What mask?
00:05:52How does it hypnotize you?
00:05:55Exactly what is this mask?
00:05:58The mask is to blame.
00:06:00You're just not aware of its power.
00:06:04You tell me more about it.
00:06:06But, Michael, remember,
00:06:07it's not yet clear that the mask is responsible for the symptoms you describe.
00:06:12Even without the mask, you may continue having these nightmares.
00:06:16But let's start with the mask.
00:06:22Show it to me.
00:06:24Why do you want me to show it to you?
00:06:26Why not, if it's causing you all this anguish?
00:06:30You want me to give it to you?
00:06:32If you like.
00:06:36You want it for yourself?
00:06:38You want it, too?
00:06:39What would I do with it?
00:06:42You'd put it on.
00:06:44You'd find out.
00:06:47Don't worry, I won't let you have it.
00:06:49Michael, I don't want the mask.
00:06:51But if you show it to me,
00:06:53we might see that the nightmares could come from within you.
00:06:56And not from the mask at all.
00:06:58You don't believe me.
00:07:01I have told you the truth,
00:07:02and you don't believe me.
00:07:04The nightmares come from the mask.
00:07:08Doctor, you're a fool.
00:07:10Michael.
00:07:12Michael.
00:07:13Michael, come back here.
00:07:17What happened, Dr. Bond?
00:07:20I'm worried about Mr. Radin.
00:07:23He's very disturbed.
00:07:26Shall I call his parents?
00:07:32No.
00:07:34No, I think not.
00:07:36It's time you went home, Miss Goodrich.
00:07:38You let the doctor do the worry.
00:07:40All right.
00:07:42But I'm not that fragile, you know.
00:07:45You could do with some rest yourself.
00:07:48You look kind of tired, too.
00:07:52Yes.
00:07:53Yes, it's been one of those 48-hour days.
00:07:56Good night.
00:07:57Good night.
00:07:59Good night.
00:08:27Mrs. Kelly!
00:08:31Mrs. Kelly!
00:08:33Mrs. Kelly!
00:08:34Maltzan!
00:08:34Mrs. Kelly!
00:08:36What's going on in there?
00:08:37Mrs. Kelly!
00:08:39Yelling and shouting.
00:08:42Look at the place.
00:08:45You can't even keep it clean.
00:08:48With all them doodads.
00:08:51I mailed this.
00:08:52Well, I'm the landlady, not the postman.
00:08:56I said mail it!
00:08:59That's different.
00:09:01Thanks.
00:09:03See, you can't keep the place clean.
00:09:05Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
00:09:09I'm always trying to get me to do things for you.
00:09:12Yes, yes, yes, yes.
00:09:13will you, Libby?
00:09:17Yes, yes, yes, yes.
00:09:20I'll never be Hoyera.
00:09:22What do you call that?
00:09:22Do it.
00:09:24Say to you two, three, two.
00:09:27Yes!
00:09:29Do it.
00:09:35Do it.
00:09:49Let's go.
00:10:21Calm down, will you please, Mrs. Kelly?
00:10:31Terrible. Terrible.
00:10:34The other tenants will move out.
00:10:36I shouldn't have let him in.
00:10:38He was trouble, him and his doodads and his ways.
00:10:42Call the morgue, will you, Bill?
00:10:46This is awful.
00:10:51What will the neighbors say?
00:10:55Calm down, will you please, Mrs. Kelly? We'll need your help.
00:10:58Yes, Sir Bennett.
00:11:00I'm sorry. Anything I can do.
00:11:02What was his name?
00:11:03Mr. Radin. Michael Radin.
00:11:06Why so?
00:11:12When he first came, he seemed like a nice, quiet sort of person.
00:11:15I wouldn't have any other kinds, you know.
00:11:18But then he turned and became very secretive.
00:11:22The last few weeks, he hardly even said good morning to anybody.
00:11:25Well, it was just yesterday that...
00:11:26Did he have any friends or relatives?
00:11:29No.
00:11:31Oh, I do know one thing.
00:11:34He worked for a kind of museum. He was a sort of professor there.
00:11:37Now, that checks.
00:11:39Pay stubs and uncast checks.
00:11:42Museum of ancient history.
00:11:44Uh, that'll be all, thank you, Mrs. Kelly.
00:11:46We'll call if we need you.
00:11:53Look, Bill, take over here, will you?
00:11:55Sure.
00:11:55I think I'll go down to this museum and see what I can find out.
00:11:59Right, I'll check this place over.
00:12:01If I can find anything in this junk pile.
00:12:19I can't tell you how shocked I am at Michael's death.
00:12:23He had such a brilliant mind.
00:12:26Dr. Soames, you're our only lead so far.
00:12:28I wonder if you could tell me something about Mr. Rayden.
00:12:31Yes, anything I know.
00:12:33Well, to begin with, did he have any problems or enemies?
00:12:40None that I was aware of.
00:12:41You see, Michael was a brilliant archaeologist.
00:12:45Brought back some excellent finds.
00:12:47Sent back even better things when growing it alone.
00:12:52But, um...
00:12:53As for his private life, I'm afraid I've new information.
00:12:57Do you know what he was working on at home?
00:12:58Of course, he was cataloguing some of the finds from the Lamar dig.
00:13:03He took objects home with him, did he?
00:13:05Yes.
00:13:06Now and again.
00:13:08Why do you ask?
00:13:10Well, because we have to work on the possibility
00:13:14that what looks like suicide might not be.
00:13:17Now, something might have been stolen
00:13:19if there were objects there belonging to the museum.
00:13:23Possibly there was an object of great value.
00:13:25Now, maybe somebody knew that.
00:13:26And this could lead to murder.
00:13:28Murder?
00:13:29Dr. Soames, I'd like you to come with me to Rayden's apartment.
00:13:32If there's anything missing, you might be able to spot it.
00:13:35It would certainly help speed up our investigation.
00:13:38Yes, Lieutenant.
00:13:40Oh, just a moment.
00:13:47Now, I'll just get the list.
00:13:52Yes.
00:13:53Here we are.
00:13:55After you, Lieutenant.
00:14:05There is something missing.
00:14:07A mask.
00:14:09A mask?
00:14:11What kind of a mask?
00:14:12It was an Indian ritual mask.
00:14:15Very rare and beautiful.
00:14:17And completely worthless to someone who didn't know what it is.
00:14:21If someone took this, he knew what he was doing.
00:14:25Oh, it was a great archaeological find.
00:14:29Rayden had taken it home several weeks ago for additional study.
00:14:33Seems strange they'd allow a valuable object to leave the museum.
00:14:37How valuable was it?
00:14:38Well, in dollars and cents, it was worth very little.
00:14:41But as a work of antiquity, of great interest to scholars,
00:14:46it was beyond price.
00:14:50But it may have had some other kind of value to someone.
00:14:56You mean beyond a money value?
00:14:59Dr. Soames, this mask is starting to sound very interesting.
00:15:03Lieutenant, I don't know how I'm going to tell you this,
00:15:05because I don't want to be accused of spreading old wives' tales,
00:15:09but there's a legend connected with this mask.
00:15:15Yes, I can imagine.
00:15:17But surely, Dr. Soames,
00:15:20you don't believe in these legends in this day and age.
00:15:23Lieutenant Martin, I'm not saying this is true or untrue.
00:15:26I'm merely giving you information about the legend of the mask.
00:15:30I didn't mean any offence.
00:15:32Please go on.
00:15:33Well, the legend states that in the wrong hands,
00:15:38this mask can do a great deal of harm.
00:15:41It can put the wearer in a hypnotic trance.
00:15:44It can make him do cruel and unnatural things.
00:15:49That's quite a legend, Doctor.
00:15:51If I believed it, it would solve a lot of things.
00:15:55However, I'm a policeman, not an archaeologist.
00:15:59I was talking to the policeman.
00:16:01The legend tells of rights connected with this mask,
00:16:04which are filled with human sacrifice.
00:16:08Now, suppose someone knew about this legend,
00:16:12and believed it.
00:16:15Do you know, uh, Dr. Barnes?
00:16:19Does that name mean anything to you?
00:16:21No.
00:16:22Should it?
00:16:23Has it some bearing on this case?
00:16:25Probably not.
00:16:26We found his name amongst Raiden's papers.
00:16:28I knew how ill he was.
00:16:31I shouldn't have let him leave the office.
00:16:34I should have notified the police.
00:16:37Why do you say that, Doctor?
00:16:39He was very troubled.
00:16:40He was under tremendous pressures.
00:16:43It's hard to explain.
00:16:45He came to my office a few days ago with a story
00:16:48of having fallen under the influence of some ancient rite.
00:16:53Involving a tribal mask?
00:16:57Oh, yes.
00:16:58How did you know about that?
00:17:00From the Museum of Ancient History, where he worked.
00:17:03He had an obsession about that thing.
00:17:06He blamed it for visions, nightmares.
00:17:09Now, when he left this office,
00:17:11he was at a point where he couldn't tell the difference
00:17:13between his dreams and reality.
00:17:15I wish you'd notified us.
00:17:18Anyway, the mask is now missing.
00:17:20It may be stolen.
00:17:22It would sure help if we knew where that mask was.
00:17:24Well, I'm sure the Museum would like it back.
00:17:27But I don't see how it would help in terms of Raiden.
00:17:29Well, if we had the mask, we could examine it.
00:17:32Find out if somehow, some way,
00:17:34it could induce suicide.
00:17:36Or if somebody would commit murder in order to obtain it.
00:17:40You see, Doctor, before the department can close its file on this case,
00:17:43we have to be sure of exactly what happened.
00:17:45I understand, Lieutenant.
00:17:48But my opinion,
00:17:50whatever it's worth is that Raiden killed himself,
00:17:52and I don't think the mask had anything to do with it.
00:17:55Well, there's still the question of why the mask disappeared.
00:17:59I'm afraid I can't help you there, Lieutenant.
00:18:03There's probably a very good logical reason
00:18:05which will come out during the course of your investigation.
00:18:07It'll probably turn up when somebody tries to pawn it.
00:18:11Well, I guess that's all.
00:18:14Thanks for your help, Doctor.
00:18:17I only wish I'd been of more help to Raiden earlier.
00:18:22Well, goodbye.
00:18:24Bye.
00:18:43Bye.
00:19:10Miss Goodrich, can you catch Lieutenant Martin?
00:19:13Is he still there?
00:19:14No, I'm sorry, Doctor. He's gone.
00:19:16Is there anything?
00:19:17No, that'll be all.
00:19:19Then I'll be leaving.
00:19:20Or Miss Albright is waiting for you.
00:19:23Send her right in, please.
00:19:34Good evening, Doctor Barnes.
00:19:37Would you be interested in psychoanalyzing a girl
00:19:40who's madly in love with a doctor?
00:19:47I'm not a very good doctor, I'm afraid.
00:19:49What's the matter, Helen? What's wrong?
00:19:52You're sweet, Pam.
00:19:56I lost a patient.
00:19:59A suicide.
00:20:04I'm sorry.
00:20:08It's all so involved.
00:20:12I'm not sure I understand all the elements myself.
00:20:18Look.
00:20:19Now I have a package from this man.
00:20:22He must have mailed it just before he killed himself.
00:20:27Horrible looking thing.
00:20:29Unearthly.
00:20:39Pam, look. There's also a letter with the mask.
00:20:42Mail from the grave.
00:20:44Alan, don't read it now.
00:20:45It'll just take a few seconds.
00:20:47It may have some important information.
00:20:49Oh, right. You're the doctor.
00:20:51Look, I'll just run down to the store and pick up a few things we need for dinner.
00:20:54Fine, you do that.
00:20:57Not before I get a kiss.
00:21:04Now, will you get out of here?
00:21:07Some kids.
00:21:09I'm going to have to teach you a few things later on.
00:21:31Come on.
00:21:32Come on.
00:21:50You're ready.
00:21:51He'll be back.
00:21:53He's ready.
00:21:54I'm ready.
00:21:55He's ready.
00:21:57of me. I thought you could help. How could you? How could you know the living hell I
00:22:05was going through? Once I was a scholar. Now, I am like an animal, fleeing from my own nightmares,
00:22:19sleeping by day, prowling by night. And how about you, Dr. Barnes? Are you certain that just
00:22:31underneath the surface of your own mind, there does not lurk a storm and fury waiting, waiting
00:22:39to be released? Are you willing to make the experiment, doctor? You hold the key in your
00:22:48own hand. If you are not afraid, put the mask on now. Put the mask on now. Put the mask
00:23:01on now. Put the mask on now.
00:23:39Is there a way you, baby? What? Do you see any of these? Do I see any of these? Do
00:23:47you
00:23:47What are you?
00:24:17What are you?
00:25:08What are you?

00:29:50What are you?
00:29:57What are you?
00:29:58Alan, I'm afraid.
00:30:31What are you?
00:30:34Alan, what are you?
00:31:04What are you?
00:31:20What are you?
00:31:21Don't you?
00:31:22What are you?
