00:00:30Blue and yellow. Who's blue and yellow?
00:00:33I really appreciate the Ryder Cup and everything it means,
00:00:36and I think it has brought a certain amount of intrigue to the entire season.
00:00:41We'll do it. We'll walk up to the stage like Dutch ball.
00:00:48The Ryder Cup is the most intense feeling we get in golf by miles.
00:01:00We're going to go into the first row, and I pick my guy up there, man.
00:01:03Can you explain this?
00:01:04And you're going to start your second.
00:01:06There's just something different to it.
00:01:08It just always creates so much drama.
00:01:15I don't know if I could have dreamed of ever actually being at the Ryder Cup,
00:01:19and I'm ready to show the world and the country what I've got.
00:01:23We're friends all year until the Ryder Cup,
00:01:26and it's, you know, Europeans on one side and Americans on the other.
00:01:30It's kind of weird in a way.
00:01:34I guess you could compare it to, like, maybe MMA fighting or something.
00:01:39What is that for you?
00:01:42Please welcome to the stage your 2025 European Ryder Cup team.
00:01:53And ready to take back the Ryder Cup.
00:01:57Please welcome to the stage the 2025 United States Ryder Cup team.
00:02:09We are playing for something far greater than ourselves.
00:02:13It's about pride and the legacy you leave behind.
00:02:24We are on a quest to reclaim the Ryder Cup.
00:02:27Death Page Black is known as the People's Country Club.
00:02:33It's been called New York's home course.
00:02:37This week, with your passion,
00:02:40you're going to make it America's home course.
00:02:42Thank you. Go USA!
00:02:45It just feels a little bit different being in New York.
00:02:49Those New York fans, they want us to win more than anyone.
00:02:52They're very passionate.
00:02:54Bring it home, boys!
00:02:55It's like they don't have a filter.
00:02:57Get a haircut, Tommy!
00:03:00You're a visit, Tommy!
00:03:03It's very intense.
00:03:05There's a lot of pressure.
00:03:08You have 50,000 people cheering for you,
00:03:11or you have 50,000 people cheering against you.
00:03:15It's just, it's hard.
00:03:18Emotion is involved in every shot.
00:03:22Every hole.
00:03:24It's going to be huge.
00:03:26It's going to be the mother of all Ryder Cups.
00:03:28Everything they've worked for in their life
00:03:30has led to this moment.
00:03:44Great to be in a New York state of mind.
00:03:47A new dawn breaks.
00:03:48It's not a battlefield unlike any other.
00:03:51Beth Page Black.
00:03:53Come Sunday, it will set with only one of two destinies complete.
00:03:58Welcome to the 45th Ryder Cup.
00:04:11Beth Page Black.
00:04:12It's really breathtaking.
00:04:15It's really, like, stunning.
00:04:18You get a real sense of the grand stage that this is going to be.
00:04:22So quiet right now.
00:04:26There's so much anticipation.
00:04:28It's really exciting to kind of be on the grounds
00:04:31and start to feel like it's kind of coming to reality.
00:04:35Come around me here so I can talk to all of you.
00:04:38Fellas.
00:04:39We are going to be relentless competitors on this golf course.
00:04:43Out there, that is our arena.
00:04:45This is the best team on the planet right now.
00:04:50And we're going to carry ourselves that way.
00:04:51We're going to be cocky.
00:04:52We're going to be confident.
00:04:54This is our time.
00:04:57I want everybody at this moment to remember what happened at Rome.
00:05:00Put your hands together for the winners of the 2020 game.
00:05:05Ryder Cup, Team United!
00:05:11The U.S. is coming off a really humiliating defeat in Rome a couple years ago.
00:05:16And these are prideful guys.
00:05:17These are the best players in the world.
00:05:19The last thing they want to do is lose again.
00:05:21We didn't have to wait another two years and to lose at home.
00:05:24We have an opportunity to play that same team this week.
00:05:28They come into this arena.
00:05:30They have nowhere to run.
00:05:31Nowhere to hide.
00:05:33Okay?
00:05:34Everybody in here.
00:05:36This week, this is our home course.
00:05:39This week, this is the course we grew up on.
00:05:43USA on three.
00:05:44I love everybody.
00:05:45One, two, three.
00:05:46USA!
00:05:52USA!
00:05:52USA!
00:05:54USA!
00:05:55USA!
00:05:56USA!
00:05:58USA!
00:06:02USA!
00:06:03USA!
00:06:04USA!
00:06:05USA!
00:06:05USA!
00:06:05USA!
00:06:10USA!
00:06:13Are we wearing hatches or no hatches?
00:06:15You know what, I don't know?
00:06:18I think they lose some hatches.
00:06:20They're on dryers.
00:06:20And we got the same size.
00:06:26When you've won a Ryder Cup, like, you never want to not win a Ryder Cup.
00:06:33We have 11 of the same 12 guys that we had in the last Ryder Cup.
00:06:39We have a WhatsApp group still from Rome.
00:06:42I think it's going to be a huge advantage to have that continuity
00:06:46and to have, obviously, a repeat captain as well.
00:06:48New York subway kind of vibes.
00:06:51Did you have it made?
00:06:51Yeah, I just told them, make me something cool.
00:06:56That's what they came up with.
00:07:01I'm so proud that I've played four Ryder Cups.
00:07:04I just go into them trying to be the best teammate I could be.
00:07:08What would make me the happiest about it all, aside from the team winning,
00:07:13is if, you know, one of my teammates got asked a question
00:07:15and they would say, you know, Tommy was, you know, the best teammate that you could imagine.
00:07:21I don't like talking about myself that much, but, like, I think I bring, like, a lot of glue to
00:07:26the whole team.
00:07:28And people laugh at me, like, I'm always in the team room.
00:07:30I'm always last to bed.
00:07:31I'm always first up.
00:07:33I love being there.
00:07:34I love being around people.
00:07:38This is definitely the most united team ever assembled.
00:07:42And, obviously, that familiarity that we all have with one another
00:07:46enables us to focus on the job at hand.
00:07:48You okay, Joe?
00:07:49Not thinking about chemistry or bonding.
00:07:53The team is formed.
00:07:54Let's go.
00:08:10No, no, no, Eddie, come on.
00:08:14There's a ball sack.
00:08:16Somebody throw the damn ball.
00:08:19Well, I'm sure you're kind of like that.
00:08:21Oh, Christ, man.
00:08:31The team's makeup are very different.
00:08:33The United States have six rookies of their 12, so half of their team have never played in this kind
00:08:38of environment before.
00:08:42There's been this sense in recent Ryder Cups that the Europeans are better just because they mesh better together.
00:08:47And the Americans just have to find some way to reverse that.
00:08:52To take a dozen guys who just play an individual sport and are only ever looking out for themselves,
00:08:57and bring them together to play on a team in one of the most intense environments in all of golf.
00:09:05Holy shit!
00:09:09I'm very excited.
00:09:10I wouldn't even say necessarily nervous.
00:09:14More just like anxious and excited and ready to kind of get it going.
00:09:20Yes, it's going to be awesome to kind of get some advice from some other guys, learn how other guys
00:09:25maybe strategize golf courses,
00:09:27how they take on different golf shots.
00:09:31Ben, Cam, and I, we kind of know that we're the rookies, so we're kind of looking out for each
00:09:35other.
00:09:36We pump each other up a little bit more.
00:09:38I'm pretty nervous.
00:09:40I want my game to feel tight.
00:09:42I want to feel confident because obviously there's more people to let down instead of just myself this week.
00:09:48Did you ever actually dream of playing in the Ryder Cup?
00:09:51What was that level of belief?
00:09:53Yeah, I did watch, of course, Ryder Cups growing up.
00:09:56Did I ever dream or think I would be on a team?
00:10:00No.
00:10:01You know, I think that kind of stems back to self-belief issues.
00:10:04And, you know, once I had my first daughter, you know, her favorite song was Let It Go.
00:10:09And I think I just tried to go by that mantra.
00:10:11Can you sing it for us now?
00:10:12Let it go.
00:10:16Oh, my God.
00:10:17There's a lot of new blood on this American team.
00:10:20But the U.S. has an incredible, deep, talented roster.
00:10:24They've got Xander Shoffley, who won two major championships.
00:10:28They've got the best player in the world in Scotty Scheffler.
00:10:30We're a very, very deep, very talented team, very hungry team.
00:10:35Nice, JT.
00:10:36Pretty.
00:10:37Just like I taught you.
00:10:39Seven of the top eight in the world rankings currently are Americans.
00:10:43And with the home crowd support behind them, I think they are the favorites.
00:10:49For as competitive as the Ryder Cup always is, going back to 2014, all of the Ryder Cups have been
00:10:55won by the home team.
00:10:56And there's a couple reasons why.
00:10:58Number one is the home captain having the ability to set up the golf course.
00:11:02Also, the crowd.
00:11:04You get the crowd on your side.
00:11:06It's a very real thing.
00:11:07You feel that momentum.
00:11:08You get the support.
00:11:10New York fans are incredible.
00:11:11I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity to hopefully get them riled up and excited for what's to come.
00:11:20USA! USA! USA!
00:11:22One of the biggest achievements in the game is to win an away Ryder Cup.
00:11:26The fans are going to be loud and everybody expects it to be boisterous.
00:11:30Great, Europe!
00:11:32Well, I think it's New York, isn't it?
00:11:34We all know how rowdy they can get, how spirited they can get.
00:11:37You know, that makes it extra challenging for us.
00:11:43But we have superstars on our team.
00:11:46They've been in that environment before.
00:11:50This is going to be my seventh Ryder Cup.
00:11:52Something that I'm very proud of.
00:11:54Myself and Rory, I guess, being the only two guys on the team that have tasted a victory in foreign
00:11:58soil,
00:11:59it's rarefied air.
00:12:02Winning an away Ryder Cup for either team has been a real challenge in the last couple decades.
00:12:06So I think that's what we're all looking for, is a little advantage.
00:12:12What advice have you given to the younger guys?
00:12:17I'm very lucky.
00:12:18I get a lot of support pretty much everywhere I go when I play golf.
00:12:21And it's going to feel a little different for me this week.
00:12:25So it's really just trying to find the balance of using that energy from the crowd to fuel your performance.
00:12:30But that's the challenge of playing away, right?
00:12:42I get it all right.
00:12:50I'm waiting on my day.
00:12:54Okay, that's whatever you say.
00:12:56I think you won't accept it, but I think you can do it.
00:12:58All right.
00:12:59Seeing, you know, all these plans that you pine over
00:13:04for months and months come to life, it's just spectacular.
00:13:10Everybody right up here for me.
00:13:12One, two, three, good.
00:13:15Again, one, two, three, good.
00:13:17Having done that job in Italy,
00:13:20I think there's a ton of pressure on you as the host.
00:13:24And I think they care a lot
00:13:27about doing a great job for Teen USA.
00:13:31And last one for me.
00:13:33One, two, three, thank you very much.
00:13:36I lied. One more. Okay.
00:13:37It's so special.
00:13:40No one could even begin to understand how much work
00:13:43and time and sacrifice missing kids' birthday parties
00:13:49and going to weddings alone over how many years.
00:13:54to be able to relax and celebrate being there.
00:13:59Like, okay, this is why.
00:14:01We leaving, brothers?
00:14:03Yeah. All done. Thank you.
00:14:08USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
00:14:14USA! USA! USA! USA, let's go!
00:14:18Welcome to a scene unlike any other in the game.
00:14:23The buildup has been enormous.
00:14:2850,000 fans expected to be out there each day.
00:14:34started lining up before the sun came up and it is the greatest spectacle in golf
00:14:47for the first two days of the rider cup they're actually team matches so
00:14:51these guys play by themselves throughout the whole year but in the first two days
00:14:54the rider cup they need a partner and that's a huge decision for the captain
00:15:00fireworks in match one with the powerhouses of bryson dechambeau and justin thomas
00:15:05taking on tyrell hatton and john rum it's really important for the captain to get the energy right
00:15:11and also has to make sense from a statistical standpoint their games have to be compatible
00:15:15but also their personalities do you notice hitting first between the two of them i don't i gotta
00:15:20think it's bryson right bryson first team driving the green yeah obviously yeah i think it's i think
00:15:25it has to be bryson hitting the first shot statistically though it's better for him to
00:15:29tee off on the even hold it you're you're you're too lost in the numbers this is this is the
00:15:34rider
00:15:34cup throw those numbers out the window the opening tee at the rider cup 30 miles east of times square
00:15:42on this morning on long island beth page black the people's country club is ready
00:16:02as soon as a rider cup week begins it's us against them and the scoring is winner takes all
00:16:11there are 28 matches over three days and therefore 28 points up for grabs all of the matches are head
00:16:18to head and each match is worth one point or a half point awarded to each side in the event
00:16:23of a tie
00:16:25because europe is the reigning champion they only need 14 points to retain the rider cup
00:16:30while the u.s would need 14 and a half points to take it away from them
00:16:37good morning and welcome to the first day of the 45th rider cup
00:16:42this is match number one bryson dechambeau justin thomas
00:16:48will take on john rahm and tyrell hatton
00:16:55takes every single emotion you've got just turn the volume up to 11
00:17:11does find the rough
00:17:14now on the tee bryson dechambeau
00:17:22keegan bradley said he wanted to lead with a spark
00:17:24this is that man bryson dechambeau
00:17:31oh he's nailed it
00:17:33that is perfect
00:17:35so look at that
00:17:37wow that's how you get the crowd going
00:17:47what an opening moment
00:17:49for team usa
00:17:57so far this hole has kind of gone exactly the way the u.s has wanted
00:18:01this for the icing on the cake to go one up through one
00:18:05in a home rider cup
00:18:12what a start
00:18:15and that's what they wanted
00:18:20just as designed for captain keegan bradley
00:18:24usa one
00:18:32come to a pga tour event and mcelroy and tommy fleetwood they are loved by crowds
00:18:38not this week tommy
00:18:49brilliant and they have been so far mcelroy chance to win the hole
00:18:59what a team these two have been
00:19:04match one could be in jeopardy for the americans
00:19:11just went left on them so a chance for europe to get up in the first match
00:19:20rahm walks it in europe takes the lead
00:19:25momentum certainly on the side of europe right now here in the first session
00:19:29they've kind of taken the crowd out early here
00:19:32was not expecting day one to go like this like obviously it's not over it's just not the way you
00:19:41hope day one goes in america in new york
00:19:45justin thomas now has been called the heartbeat of the u.s side they need the defib machine right now
00:19:52wow and that'll do it we needed that butt
00:19:57what a joke for luke donald damn that sucks
00:20:02that sucks and now fleetwood to close it out
00:20:09fleetwood mac another massive margin for europe
00:20:15that man's done everything right so far in two rider cups his captain
00:20:20this european team came in with so much confidence
00:20:23and they've they've done exactly what they needed to do which is silence the crowd right off the bat
00:20:29the crowd i think they're on mute i think that's literally where it is right now um
00:20:34but yeah more of the same come on europe
00:20:37that therefore is one that's one america bringing in reinforcements
00:20:44as we get set for the afternoon session a glorious start for luke donald
00:20:50the european captain is trying to make history crowd is bigger and louder now dan
00:20:59you felt like the u.s were trying their hardest to make that first team experience as loud and
00:21:04obnoxious and supportive of the u.s teams as much as possible you make us feel like we're definitely the
00:21:16there's a new spectator in the house the president of the united states donald trump
00:21:24anytime you see the president it adds weight a feeling that doesn't exist in a lot of sporting events
00:21:31you felt like it was going to give the whole team a jolt that's certainly what keegan bradley's hoping for
00:21:37it's the dream scenario for bryson de chambeau gonna shake hands there with the president and
00:21:43he's first to greet him out there as he comes out of the tunnel president trump got golf shoes on
00:21:50if
00:21:50the americans don't get it going the president might want to play
00:21:58walking out with the president of the united states it's one of the craziest moments in my life
00:22:05i tried to keep myself as calm as possible
00:22:10well if there was ever a stage for a comeback it was just set
00:22:15there is a sense of urgency for the united states
00:22:22first blood to the united states jj spawn you know we open up the show talking about the american
00:22:29rookies coming into a tough situation so far they've all stood up young is next to go at this par
00:22:35four
00:22:37any point you earn in one of those events is special but i i think you know i only get
00:22:41one
00:22:42chance at a first match and you know i did my best to make it count it's that club in
00:22:48such a nice
00:22:49position at the top oh wow what a shot young with a chance for his fourth birdie in this match
00:23:01five up lead for him and justin thomas the pride of sleepy hollow
00:23:06cameron young
00:23:11the rookies are finally bringing some energy for the americans and it's starting to look like there's
00:23:15a little bit of hope what a debut into the ryder cup what a confidence he's to play this might
00:23:20make
00:23:20keegan bradley think about what do i do with cam young tomorrow morning
00:23:28and that will be conceded in this victory for cameron young and justin thomas six and five
00:23:40played so well and we felt like a victory like that could just spark something in everybody else
00:23:47certainly having a better afternoon than morning but they needed to didn't they
00:23:52you never know what a little spark will do it's griffin i'm all in seven
00:24:02he's tracking he's tracking
00:24:04ben griffin bringing the energy what a virus
00:24:13ben holds this putt out of nowhere and like bang he's right involved in the match
00:24:17and justin rose is next this is crazy every time the u.s seems to be building a little bit
00:24:22of momentum
00:24:23europe answers right back
00:24:30justin rose right back at you what a response holding that one on top of ben was like we're not
00:24:39going away this is not going to be easy we're trained in match play to always expect our opponent
00:24:44to make the next shot but man come on like that was my moment seventh ryder cup for rose still
00:24:51making
00:24:51putts like that this is for birdie to tie the hole for scheffler
00:24:59scotty scheffler not looking like scotty scheffler there boy this is great news for europe scotty
00:25:04scheffler is not on fire oh man sticks it right in there
00:25:17tommy fleetwood has tied it up all of a sudden it's feeling like friday morning all over again
00:25:32tommy fleetwood has a chance to win the hole
00:25:38which he takes and europe go up in that second match european fans well represented here
00:25:45and loud with the lead here in this ryder cup 18. see we have a great battle with ben and
00:25:52bryson
00:25:53justin rose with a birdie pot to win this match i sort of remembered a little bit like rome
00:26:01when i had a putt late in the afternoon and was able to kind of hold it and have that
00:26:07moment where
00:26:07i shared it with the whole team and i kind of turned around i was like for you for you
00:26:10for you for
00:26:11you and i kind of wanted this one for tommy justin rose buries another one for a winner
00:26:22the vision that we had for the day was kind of like encapsulated by being able to call that part
00:26:27in 18 give each other a hug and come off victorious yeah it was huge fleetwood finishes
00:26:33off a fantastic friday justin is somebody that i've looked up to for a long time i've learned so
00:26:39much from him and yet it's always so cool to watch how he plays when he's in contention and we
00:26:44will go
00:26:44into saturday with europe comfortably in front five and a half to two and a half
00:26:49i mean i'm pleasantly surprised that we're we're winning um that's obviously always the goal
00:27:06awesome's our tricky thing to get right it's like a puzzle that you're trying to put together there's
00:27:11lots of different parts to it golf course personality matchups statistics um yeah there's so much that
00:27:18goes into it and i think you know if you spend enough time on it um and obviously if it
00:27:25works out
00:27:25then you feel pretty smart about yourself there's a pretty big lead after the first day but still a lot
00:27:32points to be played for so um we're just going to keep riding that momentum
00:27:39welcome everybody to day two here at this rider cup the americans are in deep trouble here new york's
00:27:45starting to look like rome we're ready for a fight um seems like new york's woken up a little bit
00:27:50here
00:27:50crowd's going uh i'm excited i got a good feeling about today
00:28:07and now fleetwood with the putter turns it right back around
00:28:14the europeans look awfully strong right now a couple of blues already on the board
00:28:23standing in the bunker rom here at the eighth
00:28:28oh that's silly oh my gosh much more than luck
00:28:37wow this is right of it i think oh my goodness a calamity not the start at all that the
00:28:47united
00:28:47states was hoping for down eight and a half to three and a half
00:28:54mcelroy
00:28:56well a lot of chatter from the crowd and not good comments
00:29:00well they're already at it and rory dealt with it on day one as well
00:29:25the american fans felt like they probably had to come out and try and help their team on saturday
00:29:31especially saturday afternoon we were so far ahead and yeah it was it was interesting it was wild
00:29:43you want rabbit cups to be different you want them to be high energy you just don't want it to
00:29:48go over step and mark that bunker's looking tasty guys shut the up
00:29:56there's one moment where rory didn't hit that part i think for five or six minutes
00:30:05it's backed off again
00:30:09it's one thing to give him a hard time but uh you can't do it when the guy's over the
00:30:13shot
00:30:13don't get angry when they were trying to started doing it in our backswings and they started trying
00:30:19to properly put us off when we were actually playing the game that really really pissed me
00:30:22off it's funny when you stand up to them they're very quiet
00:30:30it's just a combustible situation out here right now just the crowds are amazingly involved in the
00:30:36process some of the videos that emerged were was shocking there was this moment with rory
00:30:42mackerel and his wife erica walking past a crowd and all of a sudden a can of beer lands by
00:30:47erica's head
00:30:51yeah this becomes like the dominant storyline in real time and even more so afterwards
00:30:58so i'm actually the one that took this video and in real time i thought the same thing everyone else
00:31:04did that this was a beer thrown from the crowd at the european team but when i rewatched it slowed
00:31:11down
00:31:11zoomed in it became clear that it was maybe a more confusing narrative that maybe the beer was
00:31:17accidentally knocked out of somebody's hand but the reason everyone initially thought it was an attack
00:31:22was because there was a pretty ominous feeling on the grounds that i don't remember seeing at another
00:31:29golf tournament ever this one has crossed the line more than a few times
00:31:35it was against the spirit of what we do in rider cups and you could see it almost affecting the
00:31:40american players a little bit in a way you know they were trying to hush the crowd as well you've
00:31:45had
00:31:45multiple instances where justin thomas has been trying to quiet the crowd down temperatures and
00:31:50tensions can rise at any given time in a rider cup plus the atmosphere that was created by the crowds
00:31:56meant the players were on a knife edge at any given point there was an incident where justin rose was
00:32:02getting ready to hit his putt
00:32:09rose said it was his putt oh yeah that was a little key exchange there justin rose just telling the
00:32:15the caddy of bryson de champa greg bodine to get out of his way as he was reading this putt
00:32:22is he john at rose it's gotten heated whoa whoa golf has got a reputation of being a gentleman's sport
00:32:32and it wasn't a gentleman's sport on saturday afternoon
00:32:38come on i don't care what people call me because like i'm a grown man i can deal with that
00:32:43and i think
00:32:44Rory, him and Tommy talked about trying to win with excellence in class and yeah we tried to do that
00:32:49as well.
00:32:52It's not for me to say you know people can can be their own judge if whether they took it
00:32:56too far.
00:32:57You know I'm just proud of us for being able to win um today with you know what we you
00:33:02know what
00:33:03we had to go through. If America's gonna win they need to change that scoreboard in their favor.
00:33:08Now this is not over we know that let's not jump ahead but it's good as over. No it's over.
00:33:13You guys are better at this in a hundred ways. They were a heavyweight puncher throwing heavyweight
00:33:18punches at us and we were taking them and giving back stronger ones.
00:33:24Well the only good thing we can say from an American perspective about Saturday at the Ryder Cup
00:33:30it's over that's it. You know when you accept this role you
00:33:38you know the consequences that can come with it. I was in the back room with the captains
00:33:45you know staring at this score and it was it was sad to look at that score but you know
00:33:50I had a job to
00:33:51do to go speak to the team and I really had to like really had to get my shit together.
00:34:00I just reminded them about how cool it would be to tell your 16 year old self
00:34:07that you were going out to play for your country at Bethpage Black the next day.
00:34:11How far everyone in this room has come to get to this point to even have this opportunity.
00:34:16and they kept they kept saying we're gonna win this. I could tell that they meant it and it was
00:34:23like wow who knows.
00:34:30Come Sunday everything's a bit tense everything's um heightened your mind is telling you like
00:34:37we're fine but there's there's always this feeling that anything can happen.
00:34:45You know we're talking about take care of your own point
00:34:48you know let's try and win by a record margin that's the stuff of dreams.
00:34:52It wasn't very good wasn't it? I was hoping to do better in that.
00:34:56For fuck's sake.
00:34:57We're in a very very strong position but we can't let up. We have to go out there and try
00:35:03and win the session.
00:35:05We've poked the bear now like we expect them to come out swinging.
00:35:16There have been final day comebacks in Ryder Cup history but if the US is to win this Ryder
00:35:21Cup at Bethpage it will be by far the most monumental in history.
00:35:26USA! USA! USA!
00:35:32They should turn around MJ.
00:35:41We've had a late twist with Victor Hovland withdrawing from today's matches with a neck injury
00:35:46which means Harris English sits out and half a point has gone to either side.
00:35:53So there's a rule in Ryder Cup that if a player withdraws each team is awarded half a point as
00:35:58if
00:35:58that match was halved and the day begins. So all of a sudden it's 12 to 5 for the Europeans
00:36:04entering Sunday.
00:36:06Just two points away and Keegan Bradley wondering how it's all going to go today.
00:36:13Yeah that feeling's pretty pretty awful because there's nothing you can do. I didn't even know this
00:36:18practice happened. You know 99.9% of captains have never had to deal with this.
00:36:23The Americans aren't happy about rules are rules and now the Europeans need just two points out of 11
00:36:29matches to retain the Ryder Cup and the Americans are without one of their top ranked players in Harris
00:36:35English. Harris English he handled this with the most class. I don't even know the word for it.
00:36:45He keeps bringing up how he doesn't want to make the spot himself and this he wants to do what's
00:36:50right for the team and I know how much this means to the players and I know how hard they're
00:36:55trying
00:36:55and I know that they want nothing more than to win for Harris English.
00:37:04The Europeans are only two points away from retaining the Ryder Cup and making history on U.S. soil.
00:37:11To earn a comeback the U.S. team needs nine and a half points. They have to dominate every single
00:37:17match.
00:37:18There's no margin for error and I think we're all just holding our breath.
00:37:25This is match number one between the European team represented by Justin Rose
00:37:37against the United States of America team represented by Cameron Young.
00:37:45Having the opportunity to lead the team out on Sunday is
00:37:47it's an incredible honor. To go out number one is definitely, you know, it's a statement.
00:37:56I was playing well and I think my Sundays throughout the course of the season have been strong.
00:38:03Honestly, a huge honor to go out first.
00:38:11I know Justin Rose has one of the best records in his Ryder Cup career and I know I've got
00:38:16to play some
00:38:17great golf to have really any kind of chance. Cameron Young didn't even play the first session,
00:38:22now he's the first man out in singles.
00:38:25We knew we had to get Cameron Young on the golf course. He was playing exceptional golf, probably the best
00:38:31on the team.
00:38:35Good looking.
00:38:37Oh, that is right what they needed. Cam Young, the native New Yorker.
00:38:42And there's American Red up early.
00:38:46So far through two days, Europe has been relentless.
00:38:52The smasher Bryson full swing.
00:38:55I think he likes it. Well, he's chasing it.
00:38:59Wow, best drive of the week so far by anyone.
00:39:03Bryson's best.
00:39:05Bradley sends him off down the hill with even more adrenaline.
00:39:10Young for birdie at the sixth.
00:39:15That's his third birdie in the first six holes.
00:39:20Go to Justin Thomas here at six.
00:39:24Just off the fairway.
00:39:27Oh, there it is.
00:39:31First deuce from the fairway.
00:39:33Soak it in, Justin Thomas.
00:39:36Your side has not heard anything like that all week.
00:39:39USA! USA! USA!
00:39:41To the seventh.
00:39:43Par putt. Bryson got to have it.
00:39:50Five up through seven. Amazing.
00:39:53Bryson, if he loses that match early on and he's only played for two hours, like this could be over
00:39:58quick.
00:40:00And Griffin ready to go.
00:40:03Need a minor miracle today.
00:40:07I got off to a great start.
00:40:10Used a lot of that fuel from Saturday straight into that Sunday round.
00:40:14And Griffin a chance to win the hole and does.
00:40:17Keegan made a point, just don't look at what other guys are doing and focus on your match.
00:40:21But I wanted to see what guys were doing.
00:40:24Bryson.
00:40:25This is a must make being four down.
00:40:28Yeah!
00:40:29Yeah!
00:40:31It has to start somewhere if there's to be a fight back.
00:40:34That might be the moment.
00:40:47McElroy has backed off a couple of times.
00:40:51Every time that they've heckled, he's responded and usually it's been positive.
00:41:00Ooh, not a good one.
00:41:05He needs to keep his cool because that's the worst shot you will ever see from Roy McElroy.
00:41:11Let's head across to 14th where Justin Rose is first apart for Birdie.
00:41:18Oh, wow.
00:41:21Truly got some stuff from Justin Rose, isn't it?
00:41:24What a good match.
00:41:35Justin Thomas has bounced back to take a blue off the board.
00:41:39Keegan Bradley watched it.
00:41:41We're out there chipping away and we saw some putts go down and we saw some celebration from the guys
00:41:48and it was awesome.
00:41:49JJ Spahn to win the hole.
00:41:53He was two down through three.
00:41:55He's taking the lead.
00:41:56I gotta keep pressing.
00:41:58There's no let up.
00:42:00I just remember that U.S. Open finish I had.
00:42:04If I could do it there, I could do it here.
00:42:06JJ Spahn continues to play well after yesterday's late surge.
00:42:11This is Ben Griffin for a birdie.
00:42:17He and Hoygaard are tied.
00:42:19Griffin from way out.
00:42:23Being the third to last group, I had six or seven matches in front of me.
00:42:27So I could hear all the energy at the same time.
00:42:30Certainly we're not going to pull off this miracle.
00:42:31In my mind, I'm just doing my part to try to win this match and that's all I can control.
00:42:35But in the back of my head, I'm like, this would be crazy if this actually happens.
00:42:40This is DeChambeau to win the hole on Fitzpatrick, who's in for bogey.
00:42:48Looks like we might have a Ryder Cup on our hands, folks.
00:42:53USA! USA! USA! USA!
00:42:56Of course, the way I was set up. No rough. Obviously, greens were soft.
00:43:00It makes it hard to separate yourself from players.
00:43:03And we saw that in the singles. And so a lot of the matches went to 18.
00:43:10Justin Rose tied with Cameron Young. This for another birdie.
00:43:20Debra was online.
00:43:25When he missed, I mean, it's shocking, honestly. It's hard to believe that I have this
00:43:29opportunity in front of me. So Young will have his chance to take out one of Europe's all-time
00:43:36greats to win the match. You kind of have two different things in your mind at the time. You're
00:43:42like, on one hand, what's my process look like to execute this putt well? And on the other hand,
00:43:47I'm sitting there, like, I have a putt to beat Justin Rose on 18 in a Ryder Cup in New
00:43:52York.
00:43:57And Cameron Young has come full circle!
00:44:02It has given the entire U.S. side some hope.
00:44:08Back at 18. Right and rough for Justin Thomas.
00:44:16Justin Thomas!
00:44:17Again, it is still improbable, but the United States trying to pull off by far the greatest
00:44:23final day comeback in Ryder Cup history.
00:44:27This is a big putt for Fitzpatrick from seven feet for par to tie the hole and keep his one
00:44:33-up lead.
00:44:37And DeChambeau has caught it with one left!
00:44:41He looks like he could lift up a house right now.
00:44:47At 18. And Fleetwood has given J.T. a chance to win it!
00:45:05Two clutch 30 putts by the Americans at the 18th.
00:45:13Maybe the impossible is starting to become possible.
00:45:18Over at 15, Xander Shoffley, a 4-3 winner. He takes down Rahm.
00:45:25All of a sudden, the Americans are taking down Europe's best.
00:45:31No matter what way it turns out from here,
00:45:33I think Keegan will be very, very pleased with what happened today.
00:45:42We were hearing American cheers non-stop.
00:45:44I'm like, they're feeling it guys, they're feeling it.
00:45:47Keep putting the pressure, keep putting the pressure.
00:45:52Russell Henley making some putts, and he's two up.
00:45:55As I got around the back nine, I lost at 13 and 14, and I was like,
00:45:59this could actually be the biggest disaster of all time.
00:46:02It just all of a sudden feels like we're just running downhill.
00:46:04The unthinkable starts to creep into your mind, for sure.
00:46:08And over at 17, Scheffler to keep that one-up lead.
00:46:16Scheffler, winless thus far.
00:46:19Hoping he finally gets a W on Sunday.
00:46:26J.J. Spahn rolling it in.
00:46:28It's gotten contagious for the U.S.
00:46:30Well, the putters have flipped now.
00:46:32Now the Americans are making all the important putts.
00:46:35That was the time I finally looked at the board and saw, like, a lot of red.
00:46:39And I said, oh boy, here we go.
00:46:42And then on the back collar here at 17, Cantley has to make to continue it with Oberth.
00:46:53Not this time for Patty Ice.
00:46:57And Europe on the precipice.
00:47:02The cup is on the line right here.
00:47:04If Bryson DeChambeau misses this putt just like that, Europe retains the cup.
00:47:16But DeChambeau holds off Europe for just a little longer.
00:47:21A great effort by Bryson. Again, five down through the first seven holes.
00:47:26He's able to get the half point with Fitzpatrick.
00:47:30Well, that means that Europe are now within half a point of retaining at 13.5 to 8.5.
00:47:37Got a half point from Fitz.
00:47:39Okay, that's half.
00:47:40You know, you're looking at leaderboards.
00:47:43Every match is close.
00:47:44Shane Lowry, 15.
00:47:48Two down against Russell Henley.
00:47:52Oh, big shot right there.
00:47:59What a three from Lowry.
00:48:02Half the deficit.
00:48:04And coming over to 18.
00:48:07World number one over world number two.
00:48:11One-up victory for Scottie Scheffler.
00:48:14U.S. still has to run the table down the stretch.
00:48:19Over here at 17.
00:48:21J.J. Spahn needs just two putts to win the match on Sef Straka.
00:48:27That's going to do it for J.J. Spahn.
00:48:34We'll see more of him in the right of cups, I'm sure.
00:48:37Having J.T., Cam, Pat all right there on the green watching my match and everyone just storming the green
00:48:44like I just scored a winning touchdown.
00:48:47It was like a feeling I've never had before on a golf course.
00:48:51The U.S. clinging to hopes.
00:48:54They've got to get the full point in all four matches.
00:48:58Europe could retain the cup right here if Lowry wins this hole.
00:49:08Oh, Shane Lowry!
00:49:13Walking down the Aideen, I said to my caddy, I said, I've got the chance to do one of the
00:49:17coolest things in my life here.
00:49:18Like, I literally, I said that to him.
00:49:19And I think the fact that I said that and I was aware of the situation I was in really
00:49:25helped me.
00:49:26And I think when you're nervous and when you're in those situations, you need to get it out.
00:49:29I need to talk about it.
00:49:32Russell to go first.
00:49:36The U.S. needs to run the tables, cannot afford one half game.
00:49:47That's what's amazing.
00:49:48They've actually put themselves in position to have a chance to win the full point.
00:50:03So Hanley opens the door and Lowry's trying to jump in here.
00:50:09Lowry with this spot to tie up this match.
00:50:15It's mad what goes through your head when you're in those moments.
00:50:21The crowd at the back of the Aideen Green are so close to the edges of the green.
00:50:24The American players and wives, you can just see them jumping around the place.
00:50:29A chance for Lowry. This is your moment, Shane.
00:50:32This is it.
00:50:33To retain the cup for Europe with one stroke of the putter.
00:50:39I don't think I'll ever have or feel that much pressure again.
00:50:50And Shane Lowry has done it.
00:50:53Europe pulls off one of the biggest upsets on U.S. soil.
00:51:04I don't think I'll ever have or feel that much pressure again.
00:51:10Shane Lowry, you look in disbelief. Tell us all.
00:51:19I mean, I've been so lucky to experience amazing things in this game.
00:51:25That was the hardest couple of hours of my whole life, honestly.
00:51:29I just can't believe it. I can't believe that putter went in.
00:51:32I stood over it going, this is it.
00:51:34And like, the Ryder Cup means everything to me, honestly.
00:51:43It wasn't even joy, it was like relief.
00:51:45I think that whole celebration was just pure relief.
00:51:48Honestly, I think the Ryder Cup is everything.
00:51:50I really do.
00:52:00Game's the bomb guy.
00:52:04I want to make sure I remember.
00:52:11Shit happens.
00:52:12Like, it doesn't always work out, and so...
00:52:15I'm so grateful to have gotten to experience this Ryder Cup.
00:52:18I mean, it's really cool to have been a part of that team
00:52:21and see the fight and see the passion from every single player.
00:52:24You always had them.
00:52:27We weren't really supposed to do this,
00:52:28but I just escaped the team for a little bit
00:52:31and just went and found, like, the family area
00:52:34and just shared, like, a...
00:52:36I don't know, like a 20-minute moment with, um...
00:52:40Yeah, my family, Dana's dad just kind of soaked it all in.
00:52:44It's pretty cool.
00:52:49I congratulated Luke and told him just how
00:52:51really incredible it was to watch his team play
00:52:54the way they did at such a high level.
00:52:56I can say without question, I think Luke is the best
00:52:59European Ryder Cup captain ever.
00:53:01You know, in sports, sometimes there's Monday morning quarterbacking.
00:53:04Is there anything you might have done differently?
00:53:07I don't know. They played better than us.
00:53:09They deserve to win. They're a great team.
00:53:12I'm never going to get over this.
00:53:14It's just never going to happen.
00:53:19I'm really emotionally tired from this.
00:53:27I'm trying to put this behind me, but it's impossible.
00:53:31I've come to the realization that I actually just have to figure out
00:53:35a way of living with this.
00:53:52Luke, you've just joined Tony Jacklin as the only European Ryder Cup captain to win home and away.
00:53:57What does this victory mean to you? What does it mean to your team?
00:54:01It's going to be the most stressful 12 hours of my life.
00:54:05Shout out to the Americans and Keegan and his captaincy.
00:54:09But this means a lot, obviously, to me and the team.
00:54:13Couldn't be more proud of these guys, what they've gone through.
00:54:16And now they'll be taught for generations to come now, as someone that will go down in history.
00:54:45Oh, great feeling.
00:54:49It was very tense for a long time today, but the boys grinded and kept going, and it was amazing.
00:54:55Just so happy for our elite.
00:54:56If you want me, I want to shoot us all.
00:54:59If you want me, I want to shoot us all.
00:55:03Go on it!
00:55:05Go on it!
00:55:06Go on it!
00:55:08Go on it!
00:55:23Yes, we lost.
00:55:24It was tough.
00:55:25We didn't shy away.
00:55:26We didn't let everything fold.
00:55:28We went out on Sunday and just fought our hardest.
00:55:31We fought for the country, we fought for Keegan, we fought for each other, and it showed.
00:55:36I think by the time the week's over, we all create this new bond.
00:55:41And it was just so cool to be accepted into this circle of guys and be treated as one of
00:55:47their own.
00:55:47It's been certainly a highlight of my career.
00:55:51It's such an incredible week.
00:55:53I mean, main takeaway is just how much I would love to skip two years ahead, go try to beat
00:55:58that same team again.
00:56:00I will be forever grateful for this group.
00:56:03It's such a weird thing to have such a...
00:56:07such a soft spot in your heart for something that has such a horrible ending.
00:56:11But then I think about all the moments that I had with the guys hanging out together and,
00:56:16you know, all the times that we had leading up and the dinners that we had.
00:56:19And I would just love to win one Ryder Cup before I'm done.
00:56:25Like, literally, Keegan could not have been a better captain.
00:56:28He did everything with so much passion.
00:56:30All the guys told me they couldn't believe how great of an experience they had.
00:56:34It sucks that we weren't able to win for him.
00:56:37Hopefully, people can remember this Ryder Cup for the fight we had on Sunday.
00:56:42Keegan's been a great guy.
00:56:43He's been there for us.
00:56:44He's been very vocal.
00:56:46It's such a great job inspiring us, and he's been the leader.
00:56:51Keegan's fantastic.
00:56:52I thought he did an awesome job.
00:56:54So I know it was a hard situation for him, but I think he embraced it incredibly well.
00:56:58He's a perfect captain to me, and I couldn't have asked for any more than that.
00:57:03And, you know, I'd love to play for him again.
00:57:27He's a perfect captain to me, and I'd love to play for him.
00:57:34Celebrating as a team, there's nothing like it.
00:57:37For me personally, it was like, you know, I want this day to last as long as I can.
00:57:44Europe's victory over the Americans is historic.
00:57:47They pulled off their first win on foreign soil since Medina.
00:57:54And it's also only the second time in history that a Ryder Cup captain has won back-to-back.
00:58:00It's kind of a pinch-me moment when someone says, you're the greatest Ryder Cup captain ever.
00:58:06You know, I found my calling in a way.
00:58:09I get a lot of the plaudits as captain, but I'm very fortunate to be a small cog and a
00:58:15very much larger plan
00:58:16of people who really care about what the Ryder Cup represents.
00:58:21It's been a blessing, really.
00:58:22And my job is to keep imprinting those lessons and the history on those players.
00:58:29Making them feel they're playing for more than themselves.
00:58:33Would you do it again?
00:59:00I'll see you next time.
00:59:01Bye.
00:59:04Bye.
00:59:08Bye.
00:59:12Bye.
00:59:23Bye.
00:59:24Bye.
00:59:33Bye.
00:59:38Bye.
00:59:59Bye.
01:00:00Bye.
01:00:22Bye.
01:00:28Bye.
01:00:28Bye.
01:00:28You
