01:29we'll have a look and we'll advise you from there you just don't know what's on the end of the
01:33phone
01:33what you're gonna find when you open them doors this is a family's love affair with motors that have
01:39lived a life testing testing most people will buy a car because they can relate to it maybe a car
01:45that dad had you're selling dreams right here we go
01:56got a good selection i think so yeah i think i think it's going to be a good sale we've
02:00got some
02:01very good cars in yes got some good cars in got some good memorabilia in look at this chopper
02:08that one last time i was on one of these i fell off braved me head that came off chucked
02:14me off
02:14braved me head up sat on a path curb great big egg on me head so i've never been on
02:20one since
02:20be a bit jittery
02:23wait
02:26goodbye
02:27paul is it saggy underneath no it's a good one this one
02:30it might look like another normal day at the matthewsons
02:33but a new era has begun in the family business
02:38you'll know as well to do it jack
02:41fresh from passing his driving test charlie's getting ready for his first solo vehicle collection
02:48today i've got to go to ghostland which is only a half hour up the road
02:52um to pick up what i believe is a little moggy van
02:57um so we're in
02:59high winds which is lovely
03:01um so we're like we'll chuck the little moggy van on the back
03:05um it's me i think he's called steven i think
03:08um and then bin blow away back down whip it off get it processed and in the sale
03:13he's he's proper excited really bless him he's waited a long time hasn't he
03:17a long time as i did when i was his age you know i couldn't wait to get out simple
03:22as that you know
03:23and he's the same
03:26grown up quick hasn't he
03:27yeah
03:28came up from my memories the other day it only said like three or four years ago like
03:32and he was tiny in the little jcb machine down at thornton dale and now he's like taller than me
03:36isn't he
03:37so um yeah
03:38yeah funny feeling really i don't know where time's gone
03:40yeah but no he'll be spot on like a good lad
03:48my first car was a lotus elan series 4 drophead 1969
03:56from there i had various mgs
03:59high on the north york moors in the village of goldland
04:03steve tucker is getting dewy eyed about his long love affair
04:07with motors at the speedier end of the scale
04:10i went into the classic cars in my 20s
04:13mark ii jags s-types daimler's in the late 90s
04:20i had a porsche 911
04:22i had another lotus
04:23and then i went into the uh the evos
04:26i was um had an evo 6
04:28i brought that into the country direct from japan
04:32in 1999
04:34it was one of the first in the country
04:36had a bentley at the moment i've got the porsche panamera all always had cars in in the blood
04:43all of which makes his latest acquisition
04:45well a tad surprising
04:48this is a 1972 austin morris which i bought probably about 18 months ago
04:55the intention was to put some sign writing on
04:59we're in goldland here in north yorkshire which has obviously got the links to heartbeat
05:04so the plan was to get the car out have it sign written and do local shows and events
05:11we've got a business here to promote the bed and breakfast
05:15i'll push it out although it does start but in all honesty it's that long since i've driven it
05:20i've forgotten where reverse gear is
05:26there we go
05:28so i just haven't got around to doing it
05:31um i did buy it blind
05:33and that's probably my my biggest mistake
05:35basically being out the garage twice in nearly two years
05:39uh and then gone back in
05:41one of the first things i found
05:44it's a struggle to get in it
05:45obviously the seats don't adjust
05:47getting older in there in years and what have you
05:50yes i wouldn't want to drive it for any long distance
05:54that's for sure
05:56everything's been done
05:57seats have all been done
05:59new carpets
06:01dashboard
06:01it doesn't want for anything
06:04it's probably one of the only vehicles i've not fallen in love with it
06:07i can't quite put my finger on it
06:10i think i think in the past i've always had performance vehicles
06:13you know you put your foot down you go
06:16this one it just doesn't happen
06:18um which i should have thought about it probably a little bit more
06:22before i bought it but um
06:24it wants somebody to actually take it on
06:28spend some money having it resprayed
06:30just to take out the blemishes
06:31you know there's no fiberglass wings or anything
06:34it's all it's all metal
06:36everything's been done
06:37in the back by the uh the previous owner
06:41it's all solid
06:42um but like i say it'll make for a nice van
06:45it just just needs
06:46needs the body work doing
06:48for somebody who knows what they're doing
06:50you know
06:50it is a weekend's work
06:53here it goes
06:54let's see if we can start it
06:55it did start the other day
06:58get in
07:08there we go
07:09that's only about the fourth time i've ever started it
07:16realistically somewhere in the vicinity of 10 to 12 would be
07:20would be very nice
07:22yeah that would see my money back basically
07:32as always the buyers are spoiled for choice
07:36with vehicles from every corner of the planet
07:38yellow one there it's gamar rd400
07:42um 1977 model
07:45imported from the u.s. in 2020 and restored
07:49it was blue but we decided to do it in kenny roberts colors
07:52the latest to arrive
07:54a pair of pristine japanese two-wheelers
07:57and then the blue one we've got a kawasaki kh400 and s3
08:01yeah fantastic bike
08:03little bit bespoke that one because it's in ford blue
08:07it's not a kawasaki color
08:08and it's got oversized wheels
08:11simon shaw's brought them over from lancaster
08:14well the kawasaki the main thing
08:16it's a triple which means it's got three cylinders
08:18as opposed to that yamaha that's just two
08:21if you're following closely behind it'll spit oil and smoke at you
08:25which is what we like
08:27very very good for the environment by the way
08:34very nice lovely bikes
08:36i've already started both of them in just one
08:39resident motorbike expert sooty is all ears
08:42they are yeah
08:43the thing is you've done it you've done it once and you've done it right
08:46yeah yeah
08:47really they're too good to use aren't they
08:49the sort of thing they want to be on shore somewhere
08:51and be looked after
08:53the yamaha upwards of seven grand
08:56and the kawasaki similar but six grand
08:59yeah
09:00the thing on facebook saying about all these women
09:03you know what perfumes did they love
09:05and you know the smell that they couldn't get off their minds
09:08yeah
09:08and somebody else put on castrola
09:10you can't beat that
09:12no you can't you're right
09:14no that's what it's all about
09:16best enough to share about
09:16yeah
09:17yeah
09:18well i'd wear it if they sold it
09:27i'll get them off i think i might have a little look at that imp before i get it off
09:30so i think they might take a few tools out and jump pack and what have you
09:33a bit of easy start
09:34she'll she'll run
09:35before i get it off
09:37two little british classics have turned up at hq
09:40a hillman imp
09:42and an austin a30
09:43the imp won't start but derrick's up for a challenge
09:47head gasket's blown
09:48and i'll simply remember doing head gaskets in the morning
09:51don't take long
09:52it's just a bit fiddly
09:53they're a common thing to go anyway
09:55so i quite fancy having a look at it with a view to whipping the gasket on it
09:59not the same thing to do to me
10:01it's a lovely little car
10:07it's trying
10:09i'll give it a bit of help
10:11oh my god
10:12oh my god
10:14yeah of course we are
10:15bugger
10:17it's well off it is it
10:25yeah she just let some fire on all four is she
10:30i think she'll go in a minute
10:32yeah just gonna whip plugs out
10:33have a quick look
10:35they'll be soaking wet
10:37handy these little old things aren't they see
10:39you wouldn't get a socket and a plug spanner in there would you
10:43not bad
10:44it would be lovely if she busted her scent alive
10:48she's close
10:53nope
10:53we'll have to put battery on charge won't we
10:58that's a bit of a bugger that
10:59never mind
11:00what can you do
11:02with the imp remaining inert
11:04derrick gets gravity to give him a helping hand
11:06so i'm hoping with a bit of luck she'll roll off and roll down there
11:16i'll get that in there i think
11:32there's a bit of a
11:32oh what a car
11:35bit of a 30
11:38derrick's bumped into an old friend that's bounced back to pickering
11:42i went over to berry somewhere over that way and bought it the week that i lost me dad it
11:48always
11:48sticks in my mind never forget it you know you always remember what you've done on times like
11:52that that week or those few days and oh it's just so lovely i was so pleased to buy it
11:58and then we
11:59we ran it around a little bit went to a few shows and then put it in the museum area
12:04and some people came out and they said bye we fell in love with the
12:09austin i said yes so have i i'm not too bothered about selling it really i said but
12:13it's got to be top money to let it go
12:15they said what do you call top money
12:18i said i don't know eight grand i'll have it
12:21i thought bloody hell
12:23you know not that i wanted any more but i didn't want him to buy it really i wanted to
12:26keep it
12:27yeah i'll have it
12:29but what a car
12:30oh it looks just the same as it did all them years ago i mean we're talking now
12:3515 years ago or something like that long time
12:37it's a 30 an a30 four-door which again is pretty unusual look at it look
12:43look unbelievable fantastic fantastic condition the car
12:48i i don't say this very often but just lately we've had some stuff in that i feel comfortable
12:52in saying it and i personally think that's the best in the world
12:56i do there's glimmier ones there's some out there when you open the bonnet well
13:00you want sunglasses and the rest of it but that don't make it better it just makes it glimmier
13:05that's all beautiful car and then we've got the imp the little hillman imp
13:10which from same stable and it's lovely it's just lovely
13:15well we've spoken about imps before i think they're a better car than a mini
13:19sorry mini guys and i'll tell you what this is in lovely condition
13:23apart from usual old problem head gasket's gone
13:28but look at that look how nice that is inside there absolutely lovely
13:33superb look at that look at that upholstery carpets dashboard
13:37again it's a belly dodger that wheel that's a belly dodger
13:43i mean opening back window for a start off i mean mini had nothing like this did it
13:48so basically the seat goes down you've got a little estate car
13:52i know i shouldn't say this but i actually prefer that to the austin
13:56oh i know it's a terrible thing to say but i think i do
14:02what have you got here oh there she is hey bless her hey boss man great in it
14:09how proud they are of that little car and quite rightly so
14:13it's got to make the best of it for them which i will do
14:18thing is in this life mate you've got to do somewhere near the right thing for people
14:22you know especially when they've passed away and you've got to look after the rest of the family
14:26because one day you're going to meet them and i don't want to be walking in and them saying
14:32you rip the family off i don't want all that i wanted to say you done well all i want
14:37to hear
14:37hopefully i should hear it
14:44right on me tea
14:51upon the north york moors steve tucker's moggy van is patiently waiting for the next chapter of
14:57its life thankfully the eagle has landed steve charlie yeah and news has traveled fast
15:07this is your first solo trip yeah it is i've done the first bit i've made it here i haven't
15:13gone wrong
15:13so i've just got to do the bit of getting it on and then getting it back 95 there from
15:1810 foot away
15:19it's lovely isn't it yeah band does look lovely yeah there's a few you know imperfections on the
15:24paintwork as you get up close to it but um other than that nice inside though it's all there it's
15:30it's tidy yeah it is yeah really tidy nice bottom it's not only people that want the pristines they
15:38also want the the ones that need a bit of improvement um and let's be fair it doesn't
15:44need a lot really does it yeah that's it so um yeah
15:50yeah there's somewhere that'll do i'm happy for it to go yes yes definitely
15:59oh we're about there let's go left hand down a little bit
16:12i'll just get a strap on just in case it decides to roll off
16:17it hasn't quite sunk in yet really it might do when i get back maybe but i haven't actually finished
16:24the job yet have i really i'm only halfway well not even halfway there yet well i suppose i am
16:29i've
16:30got it on so if i make it back in one piece without it falling off then i'll be quite
16:38proud of myself
16:38dad or granddad give you any last minute advice do you want to know what jack said yeah bugger off
16:47so no not really no yeah so no to be fair i've learned it all from them though haven't i
16:54so
16:55from being sat in there in the passenger seat so
17:01i hope it goes to a nice home and you know somebody who who appreciates it cherishes it and
17:08yeah get you get years of fun i think we're there aren't we excellent right well mint job i'll
17:15hopefully make it back um whip it off get it washed off and photographed and videoed and
17:22on the website excellent yeah spot on right forward thank you very much cheers jolly yeah spot on
17:29thank you yeah you as well yeah um right i'll make my way back
17:45all right i'll read your number i'll tell you what i'll do it yeah first i don't know
17:50i spoke i would sack it without looking at it auction day is looming and the lots continue to pile
17:55up get her lined up with the rest of them amongst them two time warp motorbikes from lancashire you
18:01just wouldn't put them as a quick bike would you you sort of look at them they're lovely aren't they
18:05i
18:05mean stunning but your average one a tatty one they don't really look anything that special do they
18:11but uh no little flying machines apparently they go like stink don't they so um i'll never have a
18:17go on one when i get chance sensible reserves i mean they're doing fairly strong money aren't they now
18:24i think this will probably around the seven eight mark the rd i think the kawasaki probably five or
18:32six maybe even do more you don't know they were doing silly money weren't they during uh during
18:37covid and lockdown and all the rest of it as well as everything else two lovely bikes yeah be interested
18:41to see what they do kawasaki kh 400 s3 absolute show standard bike stunning machine the sort of quality
18:52of bike you can put in your sitting room this the missus will leave you like but it's sort of
18:56sort of
18:56quality of bike you can put in your sitting room i suppose it's a win-win in it anyway but
19:00anyway
19:00there we go there we are so where we're going to be on that you tell me four thousand pound
19:04of the
19:04way 250 four two fifty four five four seven fifty four thousand seven hundred and fifty pound look
19:10four five thousand pound we've got you will not be disappointed it's a very very very pretty bike
19:16five two five three five four fifty five fifty five hundred pound fifty six are we all done then at
19:23five thousand six for the first five five six five seven one more bid and i'll put it on sale
19:28because
19:29i know the vendor and i know how sensitive i am i promised i would and i will five eight
19:34it's on
19:34sale at five thousand eight at five thousand eight then you've got yourself a cracker five thousand eight
19:40sold five thousand eight next up the rd 400 what a machine that is show standard machine ladies and
19:49gentlemen you will not be disappointed it's a lovely machine always has a lovely bike seven thousand
19:54six that's 76 77 and off it goes at seven seven but seven eight we all done and dusted at
20:01seven
20:02thousand eight hundred pound seven nine fair warning at seven thousand nine hundred a pound and sold
20:07well done lovely bike that in fact two nice bikes heading to two different homes
20:15it is all about them being guided at the right guide price and an accurate reserve but you know you
20:22just hope don't you if it'd been sunny today we might have got a better price for it
20:44i've got fear for this out of us the showrooms open and the browsers are in shopping mode
21:06oh loads of cars in fact if he's in a museum he says i've had that i've had that i've
21:10had that
21:11it's easier if he said which ones he didn't have
21:16i originally started working on lawn mowers because there's even less of those then i went
21:20on to bikes and then i went on to cars and then i kept buying them and i've got nowhere
21:24to put them
21:25so they're now in fields and all sorts of stuff i will get around to doing them just eventually i
21:30don't
21:30know when remember you thought a year ago guys it used to have it's great to see i used to
21:37have a capri
21:37when i were 20. white capri over there it's a police car belter beautiful while the punters work
21:45out what they can spend a car from 1986 has tipped up that stopped quite a few of them in
21:51their tracks
21:55a little suzuki paul it's going to be said every now and again there's a car that comes in yes
22:01everybody goes look at that yes look at that yes and even and and this time
22:11it seems to be a little sj410 and i think we've all gone oh look at that for a couple
22:18of reasons one
22:20you don't see them anymore do you two it's a very special little sj410 and three we've all had them
22:28and had so much fun with them you know in my youth when i was still at school we had
22:33a firm up up in
22:34dolby had an off-road driving center and i would work up there on an evening on a weekend and
22:40all the
22:40rest of it evenings were very often spent fixing them and then weekends were spent driving them
22:46i cut my teeth on them really and we had so much fun
22:53in the land of the rising sun they've always thought differently about their motors suzuki's
22:59sj410 is a case in point let's mass produce a jeep and make it an on and off-road trailblazer
23:07suzuki's jeep heritage stretches back to the 1970s when the lj series hit the hills engines were beefed
23:15for the international market though the interiors remained agricultural the gymni was able to switch
23:20between two and four wheel drive whilst on the move and by the time the more executive vitara arrived
23:27suzuki's status as an innovator of 4x4 excellence had been well and truly written
23:40engines apparently were motorcycle derived they weren't brisking with power and indeed we all then
23:46progressed into the 413s which had a 1300 you see they had a lot more going them but these were
23:51nice
23:52and low geared and they went really well you would be amazed where that little jeep would take you
23:58you don't see any of them really do you don't anymore no you don't i mean that was they were
24:04good for two things weren't they off-road and rotting yes usually at the same time and in harmony
24:11yeah yeah i think it has actually had quite a bit of work but boy it has been done well
24:16yeah i suspect
24:18it's that same old thing in it you've got to find the man who wants one haven't you
24:23it might do somewhere seven to ten mightn't it i can't see it getting in double figures can you
24:29not no brilliant quirky little jeep i think it's lovely absolutely lovely and i hope it does more
24:34money than i think i hope i'm wrong i like to be proven wrong in this scenario obviously because
24:39obviously oh i'm never wrong you know but yeah this is a nice car this has got the makings of
24:48a
24:48proper car this one there we are the auction's in full swing and there are more lots than you can
24:55shake a stick at sold 14 once up next a vehicle that's been close to derek's heart

26:24the imp is picked up by a buyer who's going to have a crack at getting the engine running again
26:35the wanderer has returned first collection actually didn't go too bad um i found my way there
26:41without a sat nav didn't crash the lorry didn't lose the morris and i arrived back at pickering
26:47and i did what nobody does and filled the lorry up with diesel so nobody can moan at me
26:56it's a great deal right little bun bright little bun ah immensely proud it's what i've been waiting for
27:03all my life really i mean and the same with jack they've been in it a long time now the
27:08lads i think
27:08it's just wonderful for you know it's wonderful for me it's even better for them tell you what don't
27:13be morbid and silly about it but the more these guys do the happier i am at the end of
27:20my life to think
27:21i've seen it you know i'm so so lucky only lucky that's all it is i'm dead lucky and after
27:28those
27:28warm words the boss is soon back on the warpath and i wish someone wouldn't keep putting their
27:34bloody fingers all over it i hate finger marks on cars i'll keep saying to people look with your eyes
27:39not with your fingers you won't see anything with your fingers all you do is annoy me morris minor van
27:47but bas is on austin and all that is it was the nationalized industry wouldn't buy morris they
27:51wanted to buy austin i think every small business probably ran a morris minor van if they didn't run
27:57a morris minor van we run a 100e van and we run 100e vans in our butchery firm simply because
28:03they
28:03were cheaper if you look at the side of the van they're a high volume van look how high they
28:08are for
28:08start off they're a real purposeful van whereas 100e vans for argument's sake finished along there
28:14so you've got that much extra for a start off they were possibly a tiny bit shorter so the actual
28:20load
28:20area in a morris minor van is quite significant really good and because the running gear is superb
28:26i mean 100e vans side valves engine is old-fashioned gone finished three-speed gearbox whereas up against
28:32these when you could afford a morris minor van you bought one you got you got like the overhead valve
28:37engine four speed gearbox and such like much more serviceable van really and here we are the little
28:42a-series engine beautiful little engine you can't go wrong with that um old-fashioned su fuel pump but
28:48it was a good old pump and when it packed up and got a bit tired you know they they
28:53would all of a
28:54sudden think i've had enough i'm not going to pump any more fuel today i've had enough and you get
28:58out
28:58with a spanner or a starting handle and give them a whack and say all right i'll get go again
29:02and
29:02off they go and that's brilliant um you know if this was looking mint it could do 15 grand as
29:08it
29:08is at the moment wanting two grounds of paintwork you'll probably buy it for 10. not bad business
29:14is it and with a little bit of work you can turn it into a 15 grand man in the
29:21office they're getting
29:22ready for another day of hectic selling it's been very popular because it's already got bids on it
29:28and the suzuki jeep is bringing back four-wheel drive memories if you're in two-wheel driving
29:34in your four-wheel drive and it says you had to get out and like engage your hubs so you're
29:39already
29:39in a load of mud and a load of crap and then you had to get out and sort the
29:43hubs out before you can
29:43then put your car in four-wheel drive and like what's all that about you remember that paul yeah
29:47you're absolutely right you would find yourself in a bit of a dilemma and think oh out we get yeah
29:53yeah
29:55yeah yeah then they became automated yeah we've already got bids at 11.3 so it's going to go well
30:02it's going to fly oh this is the suzuki i would go as far as to say one of the
30:10cleanest nicest
30:12little sj's that you're going to find anywhere absolutely when i saw it coming in the internet
30:16i said i'm having that then i looked at it so it's going to make too much money for me
30:20that's
30:20just like a 5 000 mile time warp or is it a fully restored car it's lovely absolutely stunning i
30:27think
30:27one of the nicest ones you're going to find off we go then at 14 250 14 5 14 750
30:34at 15 000 pounds at 15 000
30:3715 250 at 15 5. guernsey you're in the lead again 15 750 yeah 16 000 pound beard at 16
30:4516 000 pounds
30:4716 000. it's a new it's a new vehicle isn't it there we are then six oh 16 750 west
30:53yorkshire's jumping in
30:5417 000 at 17 000 it is a time warp it is so nice it's all west yorkshire there we
30:59are at 17 500 pound are we all
31:02done at 17 500 going to drop the hammer down then at 17 500 pound then whoa 17 750 west
31:11georgia taking
31:12you all the way 18 000 pound at 18 000 pounds it's off to guernsey nearly 18 250 18 5
31:1918 500 and we all
31:22it's nice but i don't think i'll order that for the first second third and last time 18 750
31:27west george we've got to order 20 grand this ah richard richard you're trying hard richard at 19 000
31:34pound then are we all done hammers coming down there we are well done guys 19 000 thank you very
31:40much
31:41thank you thank you richard thank you guy you'll be over the moon with that the suzuki has romped way
31:47past its 11 grand estimate it did really well didn't it you know it did far more than i thought
31:53it was going
31:53to do if i'm completely honest but it was one of those vehicles find another one go out you could
32:00spend all year and you won't find one any better absolutely no way
32:22they were always traditionally known as morris weren't they and then i think the two companies
32:26merged austin morris obviously on the hbi check that we've done it's come up as an austin van but in
32:32the
32:32even in the description we've called it a morris six morris 600 weight really neat and tidy inside
32:38it's a clean example is that austin 600 weight van engine suite is a note once setting up but it's
32:48got the makings of a lovely van so we got six thousand pound and we're away six thousand pounds
32:54six two fifty we're a little shy on reserve guys six two fifty six five there we go oh it's
33:00not doing
33:00very well either bless it six seven fifty seven seven yeah that's smart like it i think he wants nine
33:1010 10 ish um which to be fair it should do it um because it's we sort of explained it
33:18when we were
33:18there um that it's not quite concast level it's a good user level but it won't take that much to
33:28reach that gap yep eight five eight thousand five hundred he says it just keeps creeping
33:35we're only 500 off at the minute
33:40eight thousand six hundred eight seven eight seven eight eight eight eight thousand eight hundred eight
33:48nine eight nine he says one more it's on sale just eight thousand nine hundred eight thousand nine hundred
33:549,000 on sale.
33:56Brilliant. It's not coming my way.
33:59Does he want 9-1 now?
34:01Yeah, 9-1.
34:01It's going to keep going like this all day, isn't it?
34:03I want to get home for my tea tonight.
34:069,100 pounds.
34:07Giving everyone a chance. 9-1 sold to Alan on the telephone.
34:12Thank you very much.
34:14Just over his, literally, £100 over.
34:19But it's sold and it's going to another home, isn't it?
34:21So, yeah, I'll do it.
34:22You did well there. You did well.
34:24No bother. Thanks very much. Thank you.
34:27So, it's sold above its reserve, so we don't need to contact the vendor.
34:31There'll be an invoice going out to the person who's bid.
34:33And then give us your money.
34:36It's a very nice van, yes.
34:38Let's have a look and see what...
34:39And with the cash handed over, a few days later,
34:42Jacqueline and Barry Taylor have arrived from West Yorkshire
34:45to take their moggy home.
34:47Or maybe not.
34:51And I don't think this is going to drive with that clutch.
34:53We'd better just try it out.
34:55There's about an inch of movement there.
34:59Hopefully, it will serve as well.
35:01But we'll have to see if we can get it home first.
35:03Get it home first.
35:10And in other what went where news, the two Japanese motorbikes were ultimately bought by Jack Parsons.
35:17And the more observant will have spotted that he's given the Kawasaki a new paint job.
35:22It's back in its original candy green.
35:25The stuttering imp has jumped back into life, thanks to new owner John Strong.
35:31And the pristine, low mileage Suzuki Jeep that soared past its reserve has landed in Guernsey,
35:38where it's been lovingly tended to by Guy DeRoy.
35:48What attracted me to this particular vehicle was I had one as a toy car when I was a kid.
35:55A little Corgi car or dinky toy, I think it was.
35:58And my auntie Joan gave me one.
36:00I was about six years of age.
36:02And I looked at that car and I thought, oh, if I could only own one of them.
36:07And I bought it.
36:09Gerard Huguenin is supersizing his childhood in the form of Derek's full-scale, if rather petite, Austin A30.
36:17The steering wheel of the vehicle was changed prior to me owning the car.
36:23I'll squeeze inside.
36:29If I breathe in, it's not too bad.
36:32I can just about do it, but not with the original steering wheel.
36:36It's a bit tight.
36:37I just thought I'd be able to get in and move the seat back and give myself extra room.
36:42But it's a fixed seat.
36:44So unfortunately, I'm going to have to keep this steering wheel for now.
36:47I will be on a diet and I will lose some weight and hopefully I'll put the original one on.
36:52That's me plan.
36:55We've got a heater, which is absolutely amazing.
36:58We've got windscreen wipers, two lovely little chrome ones.
37:02This is the windscreen washer.
37:05Not too sure what that is.
37:07It's all new to me at the moment.
37:09The Austin is the latest addition to a growing collection.
37:13I've got a 1928 Austin Chummy, which is in my office actually.
37:19And on my desk, I've got a 1975 Yamaha FS1E.
37:24And I've got a 1966 Daimler, which is beautiful and I absolutely love it to pieces.
37:31As well as my 1966 Morris Minor pickup truck.
37:37I could have an oil painting.
37:39I could wear a Rolex watch, but I don't own anything like that.
37:42I love looking at things of beauty and things of beauty to me are machines.
37:48I always had my mind on purchasing an Austin A30.
37:53I'm not the best person in the world for doing up vehicles.
37:56So I like to try and buy a vehicle already done.
38:00So this one was ready to roll and that's what made me purchase it.
38:04The interior is absolutely amazing.
38:07It's the best interior I've seen.
38:1057 years old.
38:12It's absolutely lovely.
38:14In fact, I'm going to sit in the back now.
38:16It'll be the first time me sitting in the back.
38:18See what it's like.
38:21Oh dear.
38:25It's not bad.
38:28It's quite comfortable.
38:30Beautiful interior.
38:32Absolutely gorgeous.
38:33Yeah, I didn't even know that happened.
38:35Look, the seat goes up.
38:38I didn't realise that happened.
38:39So that's Andy.
38:42Anyone getting in there.
38:43Getting out might be a problem.
38:46Definitely is a problem.
38:59It's not like a modern day car.
39:02Braking.
39:02You give yourself plenty of stopping distance and just drive them very carefully.
39:09My favourite thing on the Austin A30 is I always wanted a vehicle with flip out indicators.
39:17And absolutely amazing.
39:19Flip out the indicators left or right.
39:21Although I get them around the wrong way sometimes.
39:24But it's the little thing I like.
39:27Because there's no power steering, the steering is a bit heavier.
39:31But it's nice and tight and it drives well.
39:35I have had a look around and I believe this vehicle is the best in the country.
39:42And there's nothing with the same quality of this vehicle.
39:46So I'm really pleased with it.
40:00Yeah.
40:02Whoa.
40:03Listen to that.
40:04Yeah.
40:04Sounds all right, doesn't it?
40:06Yeah.
40:08Living yesteryear's pace of life, really, but as long as it gets you from A to B.
40:17It's going fast enough down here.
40:20There's going to be no rest for the little Austin moggy van.
40:24It's got a job to do to help me look after horses.
40:27New owners Barry and Jacqueline Taylor are making their new workhorse do a bit more equine-related
40:33graft.
40:34Hello, Berlin.
40:35All right.
40:36It's all right, lad.
40:38Got some bread.
40:39It won't fit that many bales in and they go through quite a lot in winter time.
40:44But if I can be independent through summer, just keep going and getting a few.
40:50It frees Barry up.
40:52Yeah?
40:52So it'll be good.
40:56The tailors are no strangers to having a moggy in the family.
40:59I bought one when I was about 13.
41:03I'm sure it was £2 that I paid for it.
41:07And I run it around the fields as a rally car and put a rotor number on the side and
41:11run it for six months and then scrapped it for, in old money, 10 bob, 10 shillings or 50p in
41:18modern day money.
41:19My dad had a Morris Minor Traveller.
41:22He bought it brand new year I was born.
41:25So it's my first memory of a car and I used to sit on my mum's knee in front looking
41:30out that little triangle window that opened up front.
41:32So I've got a bit of soft spot for them, like.
41:36And when we said, oh, shall we get that?
41:38I said, yeah, I'll go halves with you for one of them, like.
41:41With the clutch sorted and a new exhaust, it's all been minor fettling to get the car up and running.
41:47New distributor cap here, points and condenser in that, HT lead working fine, new air filter freed up and set
41:57the carburetor.
41:58This era of technology was just on its way out when I was working as an apprentice mechanic.
42:04So that's given me a big enough insight to maintain this era of car and this era of technology.
42:11You paid how much for it?
42:149-1.
42:18Anyway, we got it and I can't reach pedals.
42:23The seat's got two positions and the most forward position, I still can't reach pedals and I put my foot
42:29on clutch and I end up sliding back.
42:31So I've got a big fat cushion that I put up my back and then I'm fine.
42:39I'm fine with that.
42:40So I've got it sorted.
42:43As long as I've got him to look after it mechanically, because I ain't got a clue.
42:51I think as you get a little bit older, you get a little bit sentimental over what put great in
42:56Great Britain.
42:57And it was the old car industry, the old bike industry and the old, you know, steel works, you know.
43:04So apart from the actual physical vehicle, it's the area that it was built in that I get quite sort
43:12of sentimental about, if you like.
43:14It ticks a few boxes, doesn't it really? And if it's reliable and it does a job, I'll be happy.
43:20I really think.
43:32Okay, there you go.
43:34I'm sorry, but I can't get that many times out of the wheel.
43:38It's all right.
43:42I really think the bay and I'm not going to leave the bay and I'm going to leave my house.
43:43I don't know.
43:43It's not yours.
43:44I don't know.
43:46It's yours.
43:46It's yours.
43:48Here it is.
43:49I don't know.
43:50You can just bring it in.
43:51Anyway, with the three horses.
43:51Oh
