00:00Two women have been brought together in a reunion they describe as deeply emotional.
00:05Jackie Kerwin from Liverpool lost her daughter Georgie in August last year
00:08after complications linked to a rare brain disorder that led to severe and debilitating seizures.
00:14Georgie, who was 33, had been on the organ donation register since she was 17.
00:18After a final seizure in August last year, Georgie spent three days in hospital before she sadly died.
00:24Georgie had been diagnosed with a rare brain disorder called periventricular nodular heterotopia,
00:29which is where neurons fail to migrate properly during development and form clumps.
00:33Following her death, Jackie agreed to organ donation, including the donation of Georgie's limbs,
00:38a decision she says was guided by her daughter's belief that it's the soul that matters most.
00:43One of those donations was Georgie's left hand, which went to Kim Smith,
00:47who lost all her limbs after developing sepsis in 2017.
00:51The women met for the first time earlier this year, describing the moment as very emotional,
00:56with both Jackie and Kim in tears as they spoke.
00:59We were both crying and she told me she was forever grateful, Jackie said,
01:03adding she believes Georgie would be over the moon.
01:06Kim Smith says the experience of meeting Georgie's mum was overwhelming,
01:10recalling that she was shaking like a leaf when Jackie walked through the door.
01:13Kim, who now lives with a functioning left hand following the transplant,
01:17says she's since become naturally left-handed after losing her dominant right hand.
01:21Both women are now working together to raise awareness of sepsis and epilepsy
01:26and to keep Georgie's name and story alive.
