00:22One mistake out here could be the difference between life or death.
00:25You have no idea what you're going to encounter.
00:30People come up here, and when they're on the run...
00:32He's running, he's running.
00:33He's through there!
00:33And we'll find him.
00:34The allure to Alaska is just how wild it can be.
00:37Stop!
00:41Stop, or you're going to get tasers!
00:43Stop!
00:44It's Alaska State Troopers.
00:45We're on our left.
00:47Oh, stop.
00:49You don't have a boring day as a State Trooper in Alaska.
00:51Stop, fire! Stop, fire!
00:52Move them around, y'all!
00:53State Troopers!
00:54Do not move!
00:55Let me see your hand!
00:55Let's go!
00:56Please, radio check.
00:58Search for people.
01:00Police just be advised.
01:10Mack, I'm 214.
01:11I have a failure to yield.
01:13Northbound Parks.
01:14Speed, 77.
01:16Mack, I'm copy.
01:17Fail to yield.
01:181050 in the ditch here at Miller's Market.
01:21Still going in the ditch.
01:23He's now on the left side of the road.
01:25Copy, 1050 ditch from Miller's Market, left side of the road.
01:32Yeah, it's a black sedan, single male occupant.
01:41Affirmative.
01:44We're in.
01:45We're in.
01:46We're in.
01:46We're in.
01:46Mack up to I-14.
01:47We've gone down the first driveway on the right past Riverside Inn.
01:54Affirmative.
01:54Foot bail, foot bail, foot bail into the river.
01:58Foot bail into the river.
02:05Knock on six, WPDK9 on.
02:09Negative.
02:11Back up to I-14.
02:12I don't have eyes on the suspect.
02:15No one else in the vehicle.
02:17I'm 10-12.
02:18Two other units arrived.
02:22Male had a full beard, bushy brown hair, and like a wool pullover jacket.
02:31Yeah, this is going to be where the vehicle ultimately stopped and the driver bailed out on foot.
02:37All right, I was having a hard time getting any of the radio traffic.
02:41So which way did he go from here?
02:43He exited the vehicle and ran that way toward the river's edge.
02:49Okay.
02:49Kind of looked like he went towards the river, but when I ran over here, I didn't see him trying
02:53to cross or nothing.
02:54So my inclination was he continued along the edge here.
02:57He went that way for sure.
02:59Okay.
03:01I don't think he crossed that river.
03:04That's pretty deep.
03:05I'll go start exploring that way.
03:07Okay.
03:10Mack, I'm 22.
03:11This area just to the north of the foot bail has quite a few outbuildings and vehicles that somebody could
03:17hide in.
03:20Hey, how's it going?
03:21What's going on?
03:21What's going on?
03:23Do you have an ID on you by chance?
03:24I do.
03:25Okay.
03:26I think.
03:26Any weapons or anything?
03:27No, I don't have none of that.
03:30I'll just go along with this.
03:31There's like a lot of you guys here and you're like, I'm super freaked out.
03:37What was the description of the mail that ran?
03:39Full beard, pull over that was brown and desert came out looking.
03:4525's got a photo of a guy to show you.
03:48It's 214 in front of us for now.
03:53Is it a warrant?
03:54Turn around.
03:55Put your hands behind your back.
03:56What?
03:57What?
03:58What's happening?
03:58Ouch.
03:59No, he's just literally with me over there.
04:01There's no way.
04:01I'm not a guy.
04:02I swear on my life there's no chance.
04:04Yeah, so we sent a photo of this person to the trooper
04:07that initiated this whole pursuit.
04:09And he confirmed through the photo that he thinks that's the guy.
04:12I'm just kind of waiting to figure out.
04:13Like right now she's talking about another person that was here earlier today.
04:17So we're going to sort that out before we actually arrest him for this.
04:21Who's Mike?
04:22Can you describe your ex to us?
04:24Looks just like .
04:26They kind of look like twins to be honest.
04:28Would he have warrants or anything?
04:30Probably because he never goes to court.
04:32What was Michael driving?
04:33He was driving a black car.
04:35A black car?
04:36Is it maybe a Dodge Neal or something?
04:38Yeah.
04:39So the girl that's here with this guy that we have detained is telling us that she had
04:43another boyfriend that was here earlier today driving a similar car to what ran from us.
04:49She says that he looks pretty much the same as this guy.
04:52Holy smokes.
04:55You look very close.
04:57Yeah?
04:57You look very close.
04:58It wasn't me.
04:59I can guarantee that.
05:00Okay.
05:01All right.
05:01So it sounds like we have kind of ruled this gentleman out.
05:05This guy, not nearly as spry as the guy that jumped out of this car here.
05:09Unfortunately for him, he just looked very similar to our actual suspect.
05:13So apparently the dog showed some interest over here by a cabin.
05:16We're going to go start poking around over there.
05:30So stay troopers.
05:31If you're inside, make yourself known.
05:50Stay troopers.
05:51If you're in here, make yourself known.
05:54Stay troopers.
05:55Stay troopers.
05:59Stay troopers.
06:01Stay troopers.
06:02We're clear inside the res doing double checks.
06:04The guy took off on foot.
06:06So we cleared the house.
06:08We don't see any sign that he's been in there.
06:10Pretty sure that we've identified who he is.
06:13A Michael Pegg.
06:14He might be on foot in the area still.
06:16He's already got warrants.
06:18So if he gets contacted, he'll get arrested regardless of these charges.
06:21Either way.
06:33The PED went to go serve an arrest warrant.
06:38The guy foot mailed and is now being pursued by a PED on foot.
06:43He recently fled from troopers not too long ago.
06:46And he's known to flee.
06:48The woods are extremely thick back here.
06:50And we have no real trail.
06:53It's kind of a general sense of direction.
06:54It should be north, northeast.
06:56But he is clean shaven now.
06:58So they know.
07:09We have a canine coming from Palmer.
07:13We have Hilo 3 on their way.
07:15Just trying to set up a perimeter to where he's got to stay in this general vicinity for the canine
07:22track.
07:26There's someone hiding in the woods over there?
07:28Yeah, right.
07:29He just saw the bushes.
07:29He just saw the bushes.
07:31Yeah.
07:31Where is it?
07:32We're at exactly on the left?
07:34Maybe like 200 feet back.
07:36Michael!
07:37This is the last of state troopers!
07:39You have a warrant for your arrest!
07:42Come out with your hands up now!
07:46Said he was in the tree line right here.
07:48Just hiding, bunkered down, hiding in a bush.
07:51Person.
07:52Person.
07:53Hey, he's right here.
07:54Further off in the woods on the other side.
07:56Hey, let me see your hands!
07:59Show me your hands!
08:02Michael!
08:02This is the last of state troopers!
08:05Come out with your hands up now!
08:07Talk to me now!
08:12NCIC 46, canine track starting.
08:20It's horrible terrain.
08:22I mean, it's up and down hills.
08:23The ground is soft and, like, coming up halfway up our calves and muck.
08:28The tree line is so thick and there's so much spoilage on the ground that you can't get a good
08:33track.
08:36So there's a hot spot underneath the power line.
08:39So the helo is above us using thermal.
08:42They were able to see a heat signature right underneath the power line trail.
08:47Very close to the hot spot.
08:51Police canine, you're in the woods!
08:53Pick me now, you may be bit!
09:02Pull!
09:03Pull!
09:03Hey, hands in your hands!
09:06Help!
09:07Help!
09:09Don't move!
09:12You okay, sir?
09:14I'm okay.
09:14I'm all good.
09:15All right, we'll get your medical care, dude.
09:16You can.
09:17NCIC 46, we've got the Jatane out on the Parksideway.
09:22I'm sorry.
09:26Well, tomorrow will be a new day, so don't worry about that.
09:29Careful with the ruts.
09:30I don't want you to trim.
09:31What did you guys come out there for, anyway?
09:33You got warrants, dude.
09:35Violating conditions of release, and you cut your ankle bracelet off, dude.
09:38No, I was hiding through the wood, and it fell off.
09:41Right.
09:41Okay.
09:42Forgive me if I don't believe you.
09:43Went back trying to find it, and you guys cut it up.
09:46You could see how thick that brush was.
09:49He was sitting five feet in front of us.
09:51We couldn't see him.
09:52All right, Michael, let's walk.
09:53We got an ambulance to catch.
09:54We have a lot of resources, and there's not many ways you can get away from us.
09:58We have canines, helicopters, drones.
10:00Yeah, we're going to catch you.
10:14My mission as an Alaska State Trooper is public safety.
10:17Just enforcing traffic laws, which could lead to something else.
10:21You could find someone who is kidnapped, or someone who's driving drunk.
10:25You know?
10:25Someone who is transporting illegal narcotics.
10:28Canine Bruce, who's in the back here, is trained to sniff illegal narcotics.
10:33So, cocaine, heroin, meth, and fentanyl.
10:37Specifically today, we're going to contact people for motor vehicle violations.
10:42And it could lead to something more.
10:44And it could not.
10:45But you just never know.
10:50Right now, this vehicle's leaving a suspected drug house.
10:54And it's crossing over the center line.
10:57So, we're going to address this situation real quick.
11:03Back November 66, 1036.
11:06Good.
11:07We're going down Beverly Lakes and Windy Bottom.
11:10We're slow rolling.
11:11It's 68.
11:1355, copy.
11:15You always got to be cautious when doing traffic stops.
11:18Especially in Alaska.
11:19Everyone's got a gun, and you got to treat it as such.
11:28Put your hands out the window.
11:34What's going on?
11:35Okay.
11:35Well, you're slow to stop.
11:36It's concerning.
11:37Okay.
11:37I'm sorry.
11:38All right.
11:40Do you have your driver's license and insurance registration?
11:41No.
11:42Do you have any of that?
11:43No.
11:43I don't have any of that.
11:44Yes, sir.
11:45Oh.
11:46Okay.
11:47Where are you guys coming from?
11:49Places.
11:51Okay.
11:52In Wasilla?
11:55Why?
11:56Is that relevant?
11:57I mean, it is relevant.
11:59Do I have to answer?
12:01You don't have to.
12:02Proof.
12:03Okay.
12:04Is there any reason why you don't want to answer the question?
12:07Explain your distance.
12:08Okay.
12:09All right.
12:09Insurance.
12:10I'm not trying to be a dick, but you know what I mean?
12:12Okay.
12:12Yeah.
12:12Insurance.
12:13All right.
12:14Work on the insurance.
12:15Work on the registration.
12:16Okay?
12:16I don't want to have to, like, write you a citation for something if it isn't here.
12:20Okay?
12:20Work on that.
12:22Just hang out.
12:23Right there.
12:26You know, everyone has their right and expectation of privacy.
12:30They have the right to tell me to pound sand.
12:32.
12:34.
12:34.
12:35.
12:51Affirmative.
12:52They had impounded the vehicle and searched it.
12:54He had got a breaching shotgun, broke the lock off the impound yard, and stole his vehicle.
13:00What's going on?
13:01.
13:01.
13:02.
13:02.
13:09I recognized the driver.
13:11We had an incident where he eluded police, got his vehicle impounded, was arrested, found nearly a pound of cocaine.
13:18Subject is hostile towards the LEO to offer minimum contact.
13:22.
13:23.
13:24.
13:25.
13:25.
13:25.
13:25.
13:25.
13:25.
13:25.
13:26OK.
13:27What's up?
13:28Any other questions?
13:29What's going on?
13:30Why are you here?
13:31That's all I'm going to tell you.
13:32That's all you're going to tell me?
13:33Yeah.
13:36What the are you doing, dude?
13:37He's not allowed to look in the vehicle.
13:40out of the vehicle.
13:41Go to the face of these folks.
13:43What?
13:44What?
13:44We're going to be detained.
13:45For what?
13:47We're detained you while we complete our investigation.
13:50There's a plane beam nest standing on the door
13:52and a crack stem in the door.
13:53We have what looks to be a crack piping plane
13:55view, which is enough for probable cause here.
13:58You know, white residue right there.
14:03Oh, my body.
14:04I'm going to go find drugs.
14:11We're going to take another step in the investigation.
14:13We're going to do a canine sniff on the car.
14:15OK.
14:16Oops.
14:25I went by it a couple of times on that last one, the canine
14:28indicated that there is a presence of illegal narcotics
14:30coming out of the vehicle.
14:31Oh, come on.
14:39This looks like cocaine.
14:41Then we got crack in there, crack cocaine.
14:45This is going to be more than a user amount of cocaine.
14:51We've got a gun with an extendo.
14:58So the driver's a felon, felon in possession of a firearm.
15:02So now we have two of the things that kind of coincide with someone
15:06who is dealing drugs.
15:07We've got the gun, and we've got the quantity.
15:1034 grams of cocaine.
15:13What the is going on, man?
15:15What did I do?
15:16It's a drug investment.
15:18What?
15:19I think anywhere you go, people who are involved in drug crimes,
15:23they're going to adapt to what law enforcement are doing.
15:26Stop them one way, they're going to figure out another way to get it
15:29into all of the communities in Alaska.
15:31And we're doing the best we can to stop it.
15:44You look to our left, you'll see Sugar Shane's house where a lot
15:50of people tend to congregate that are frequent customers
15:54of the Alaska State Troopers.
15:57Arrested somebody out of that tourist the other day
15:59that had a warrant.
16:00The male occupant had a pending warrant.
16:03So I'm going to check and see if he does have a warrant.
16:10Uh, and he does have a warrant, so we'll go remand it.
16:14The property owner, Sugar Shane, he's cooperative with law
16:17enforcement, but it is a notable spot in the valley
16:21where people just are involved in criminal activity.
16:32How's it going?
16:33Hey, what's going on, brother?
16:34What the hell?
16:35Looking for Shane.
16:37What I didn't have.
16:38Not you, another Shane.
16:39Oh, it's here somewhere.
16:41OK.
16:41Do you mind if I walk on your property?
16:47There's so many little makeshift housing areas
16:50that you can hide.
16:53Hey, Shane.
16:57Hey, you got a warrant, buddy.
17:06You got anything on your train that you shouldn't be taking to jail?
17:26Uh, no.
17:27Let's walk over to my car.
17:28OK, I'm going to check your pockets.
17:29All right, let's go around this way.
17:31Hey, I can't drive my car.
17:33Come here.
17:34Hey, I got it.
17:35The dog almost got me.
17:36Yes.
17:37Hey, can you get me out tonight, today?
17:41Hey, get the keys out of my pocket and just take my car down there.
17:44Right here.
17:46Yeah, I'll pay you.
17:48I'll pay you.
17:48Yeah.
17:51I told you about your warrant, dude.
17:53I know.
17:53I told you to go get taken care of.
17:54Well, what?
17:55Wasn't it like yesterday?
17:57Yeah.
17:57Or the day before yesterday?
17:59All right.
17:59Comfortable as you can be.
18:00And it's only $150 warrant.
18:02I think it's for like theft three.
18:04So it's a felony charge.
18:05He missed arraignment.
18:08It's another day in Massey Valley.
18:20It's another day in Massey Valley.
18:23Go ahead.
18:24They're already reporting two people on site
18:25us driving it side by side.
18:27And they did get physical with each other at one point.
18:3010-4, they're not physical now.
18:33They weren't during the time of the call.
18:35Caller stated that they're driving back and forth
18:37on the trail to their cabin.
18:39Mile 118 of the park.
18:4110-4.
18:44Got a third party report of two individuals
18:48arguing back and forth, and that their argument
18:51escalated into a physical altercation at one point.
18:54They're both intoxicated and driving a side by side.
18:58If you're intoxicated and driving anything with a motor,
19:01that is DUI.
19:02It doesn't matter if they're in a four-wheeler
19:03or on a vehicle, or if that four-wheeler is in a parking lot
19:06or on the roadway.
19:08So we're going to drive to mile marker 118 of the Park's
19:12Highway to go see if we can find them.
19:16150, 200-mile round trip to go take a call for service.
19:20They'll be driving for a couple hours.
19:26mile 118 of the Park's Highway looking for a blue truck
19:30and a pullout.
19:31Oh, there's a four-wheeler.
19:35back on 46-23.
19:39Hi, sir.
19:40We got a call about, like, some sort of, like, uh...
19:42There's some goofy people up there.
19:44Up here?
19:45Yeah.
19:46Are they in, like, a side-by-side or something?
19:48Yeah.
19:48They're passed out in it right now.
19:50Oh, that's perfect.
19:51We'll go talk to them.
19:52Awesome.
19:53Thanks.
20:00And there's a passed out man in a side-by-side.
20:09Mile 118 of the Park's Highway.
20:11And there's a passed out man in a side-by-side.
20:14Hey, sir.
20:16Sir.
20:17Hey, it's the state troopers.
20:19Oh, shoot.
20:20Hey, man, you all right?
20:21Yeah.
20:23What's going on today?
20:24Uh, I'm going home.
20:26Who were you with earlier today?
20:28My girlfriend.
20:29Oh, .
20:30Can you step out of the four-wheeler for me
20:31so I can talk to you?
20:35How long have you been parked here for?
20:38A couple hours.
20:39A couple hours?
20:40Well, we got a call about an hour and a half ago.
20:42You guys were awake and having some sort of fight
20:45or disagreement in the parking lot here?
20:48No.
20:49This is in the driver's seat of the blue truck.
20:52Cool.
20:52You want to go talk to .
20:55Well, tell me what happened.
20:57I have no idea.
20:59You guys had some sort of disagreement, at least.
21:01Or else we wanted to have just driven an hour and a half
21:03to get here.
21:05Mm.
21:06Sorry, Brady.
21:07No.
21:09Is this your pickup truck here, the Silverado?
21:11Yeah.
21:12All right.
21:12Is there any reason why you drank so much today?
21:16Like, something going on?
21:17No, we just headed back home.
21:20And you just slammed a case of beer?
21:22Yeah.
21:23Yeah.
21:23Yeah.
21:24What was the time of your first drink today?
21:27Eight, nine o'clock in the morning.
21:30And what about your last drink?
21:32Maybe noon.
21:33Around noon was your last drink?
21:34Yes.
21:35How many drinks did you take in total?
21:36One, man.
21:37You had one beer?
21:38One beer.
21:41I know.
21:42It sounds like a lie.
21:43It is a lie.
21:44I know.
21:45I'm going to stop you right there, man.
21:47There's a case of beer on the floorboard that's almost empty.
21:49There's open containers in both doors.
21:51There's open containers in back and more beer.
21:53And you seem pretty drunk.
21:55All right, Brent.
21:56You are going to go to jail today for DUI, all right?
21:59Have you ever had a DUI before?
22:01It's my fifth.
22:02Your fifth?
22:03I'm going to have you do this PBT real quick.
22:06All right, big deep breath.
22:07There you go.
22:09You're at 0.254.
22:12Straight alcohol.
22:13Straight alcohol?
22:15Why do you say that?
22:16Because I just woke up.
22:19That has nothing to do with how the breathalyzer works, man.
22:21If what he said is true, he hasn't drank in an hour and a half,
22:25that's definitely concerning.
22:26He hasn't had anything to drink since we got here.
22:28He was possibly more intoxicated when he was operating this side-by-side up and down the road.
22:33Who knows he could have been coming here to load that trailer up
22:35and get this in on the Parkes Highway and caused a serious car accident.
22:40The biggest thing the last state troopers do is we go out to these remote areas
22:43and enforce the law where people think that no one's watching,
22:46no one's going to come and hold them accountable for their actions.
22:48Just because you're out at 118 miles up the Parkes Highway
22:52doesn't mean you can do whatever you want.
23:11So I'm driving by a suspect's residence right now.
23:16He's got a $20,000 felony warrant for pretty violent domestic violence assault on his girlfriend.
23:24Basically, we're going to build some intel on him and then come up with a safe plan to arrest him.
23:32About the last two weeks, I've been putting cameras on places he's been staying.
23:40He doesn't look like he's home.
23:45Yeah, we're going to run up to this truck here real quick.
23:49This truck belonged to a suspect.
23:51Patrol drove up here.
23:53He saw Patrol before they were able to see him.
23:56And he exited this truck and ran into the woods.
23:59When he did, he left his cell phone like a meth pipe.
24:03Eventually, he's going to come back for this truck at some point.
24:06I want to see if he's already come back and got his cell phone.
24:10If he came back and got his cell phone, that's good for us.
24:12We'll be able to get a warrant to track it.
24:27The cell phone's still in the dash, so he has not been back.
24:37He probably escaped down this trail, I bet.
24:48One of the tools I use a lot for tracking down people is these Reconyx cameras.
24:52It's just a hunting trail cam, but it sends live pictures to my cell phone.
24:57So this guy's been pretty savvy.
25:00He sent his kid out to look, I think, to look for cameras.
25:03He found our camera using his cell phone, taking a picture of it right there.
25:07He's super paranoid right now.
25:09He knows we're looking for him.
25:10He knows he's got a warrant.
25:11He's not using the, you know, front driveways to his place.
25:15Allegedly, he's using, like, a small, like, ATV trail to enter his property.
25:19So he's not staying at places long.
25:21I mean, like, a few hours, and then moving on to the next place.
25:25He's been real hard to pin down.
25:27We'll get him eventually.
25:34Hey, this is terrible.
25:36I can't see nothing.
25:38Well, there's some fog, isn't it?
25:39Oh, yeah.
25:40We've got him on the spot now.
25:42Let's step it up.
25:43Okay.
25:47So we are heading out to North Pole.
25:49We got a location for the suspect.
25:52We're able to put him on scene with some trail cams.
25:57Hopefully, he's still there when we get there.
25:59If he leaves on foot, we're going to lose him in this, especially the weather today, foggy.
26:04And, I mean, you couldn't ask for better weather to try to escape into.
26:07What are you doing?
26:09A unit's responding.
26:10Let's switch to just lights and no sirens at this point.
26:15He just walked out to the bus.
26:21Alaska State Troopers with a warrant for your arrest!
26:25Up to the door of the bus with your hands empty!
26:28He's got eyes.
26:29I got him.
26:29I got him.
26:30Hands up!
26:34Suspect's got a $20,000 felony warrant for pretty violent assault on his girlfriend.
26:40He's super paranoid right now.
26:42He knows we're looking for him.
26:43He knows he's got a warrant.
26:47Alaska State Troopers with a warrant for your arrest!
26:50Come to the door of the bus with your hands empty!
26:56Alaska State Troopers with a warrant for your arrest!
27:01You got eyes.
27:02I got him.
27:03I got him.
27:03He's coming out with his hands up.
27:04Hands up!
27:06Yeah, walk through the, just go walk through the weeds if you can.
27:09You got it.
27:10All right.
27:11Just stop there, turn around for me.
27:13You got any weapons on your ?
27:14I don't believe I do.
27:16Okay, just keep walking towards me.
27:19Backwards.
27:19Keep walking backwards towards me.
27:21Okay, just don't reach for it.
27:22Thanks for telling me.
27:23Keep walking backwards.
27:26Okay.
27:26Your hands be on your back.
27:30Everybody else in the bus ?
27:31Yeah.
27:32So that went as smooth as it could went.
27:34We were able to get up on him before he was able to escape the bus
27:37and call him out and he was compliant.
27:40You were about to say something.
27:41What were you going to ask me?
27:42It's all right.
27:43That's just weird.
27:44Really nice.
27:44Thank you very much.
27:45Bye.
27:46Well, listen, I appreciate you being so cooperative with me today, okay?
27:51I think at this point from being on the run for so long,
27:54he's tired and worn out and he even said he just kind of feels a little relieved at this point.
28:00He was out all night running in the woods, you know, cold, wet, hungry.
28:03So he's ready.
28:20We're going out to do proactive traffic enforcement.
28:24In the Mat-Su Valley, there's so many people that, you know, live here and commute into Anchorage every day.
28:28It doesn't matter what time of year it is.
28:30You always have a lot of people on the roadways engaged in criminal activity.
28:39Central arm right around the corner.
28:41Trooper Vagari's got a vehicle pulled over.
28:44Both occupants in the vehicle have warrants out for their arrest.
28:47So we're just going to back him up to help him make those arrests.
28:52Oh, yeah, that's the man.
28:59Yeah.
28:59You know that, uh, mixed card you got a while ago?
29:01You got a warrant.
29:02I haven't had a mixed card.
29:04Well, you got a warrant for it, I guess, so.
29:06I got a warrant?
29:07Yeah, you mind stepping out?
29:07Nobody ever forms that turn.
29:09Appreciate it.
29:09Anything on you?
29:10No.
29:10No.
29:12I have a warrant?
29:14Yeah, I got you.
29:15All right.
29:16All right, you got a warrant out for your arrest too.
29:19So I need you to step out of the car for me, okay?
29:23You got anything in your pocket that's going to pick or stick me?
29:26You don't need to launch it there.
29:28You got any personal property in the vehicle?
29:31A purse?
29:32A wallet?
29:34Yeah.
29:34A purse.
29:35Where's your purse at?
29:37Where's the purse?
29:38Here, don't go back to the car.
29:39Just tell me what it looks like.
29:40What color is it?
29:42Deal with it.
29:43Who's the ?
29:44The other person that's in the car.
29:46There's a third person in the car?
29:50Oh, there's someone else in the car.
29:52Oh, hi.
29:54Yeah.
29:54Can I get out the office?
29:55Yeah, you can go down.
29:56Yeah, do your thing.
29:58Okay.
29:58One, two, three.
29:58Okay.
29:59There we go.
30:00Where were you sitting at in the car?
30:02Were you just on the floor here?
30:03Yeah, I was just sitting on the floor.
30:04All right.
30:04There's some tin foil right there.
30:06Do you have anything in your purse?
30:08I don't.
30:08Is it all right if I check and make sure you don't have anything in there?
30:10Go ahead.
30:11Okay.
30:12Yep.
30:12Was that in the car when you got there or whose is that?
30:14I got into the car.
30:15Just here?
30:15Yeah.
30:16Oh, they came and picked you up or something?
30:17I got in the car on a TV.
30:19Where were they taking you?
30:21Here or?
30:21Yeah, they were taking the car.
30:22Okay.
30:23Yeah.
30:24You just got a little bit of meth in there.
30:27When's the last time you used?
30:29That's not enough.
30:30Who's would that belong to?
30:34Well, why did you, how did you end up with it?
30:37Because she handed it to you.
30:40She just threw it in the back and you threw it in your purse?
30:42He threw it in the back.
30:44So, why did you pick it up and put it in your purse?
30:47I didn't even look in it.
30:48But why did you, she just.
30:50Just threw it.
30:51When you guys were getting pulled over?
30:52And you weren't like, oh man, the cops are coming to contact us.
30:55I wonder why she threw this.
30:57I just threw it in.
30:58What about the needle?
31:00Is this yours?
31:01Oh, no.
31:01I just got it up in the van.
31:03Oh, okay.
31:03Were you just cleaning up all the trash in there or something?
31:06Like that, yeah.
31:07Why didn't you get the tin foil then?
31:09I didn't even want to send this.
31:11Well, she's got Suboxone in here.
31:12Yeah.
31:13You found yourself in a mess now helping out all your friends.
31:16You're not under arrest or anything like that, but I'm going to interview them too
31:19and figure out what's going on, okay?
31:20Okay.
31:21She told me that you threw a silicone container in the back seat when you were getting pulled over.
31:26Is that true?
31:27No.
31:27Yeah, she had some crystal meth in her purse and said it belongs to you.
31:30Oh my God.
31:32What the hell?
31:36You think she's lying to me?
31:38Yeah, she's lying.
31:39Okay.
31:40I'll be right back with you guys.
31:41Thanks.
31:42Two are going to jail for their warrants.
31:44Two of the three are being charged with misconduct involving controlled substances.
31:48Is she going to come get me?
31:49They want to know if you'll come pick them up still.
31:52Yeah, I will come pick them up.
31:53Okay.
31:54We're taking a normal traffic stop and getting people to have arrest warrants to answer for
31:58the crimes they had previously committed and we found some drugs that we got off the
32:01street too.
32:02So this is a fruitful traffic stop.
32:22Sergeant Chris Rafferty with the Alaska State Troopers in Nome.
32:25Today we are going out to the villages to try to do a warrant roundup.
32:31Trooper Barrett is coming along with us.
32:34We have about seven people who are wanted who have warrants.
32:37It's costly for the state to travel to these villages.
32:40So when we go, we try to make it worthwhile and to try to get as many of the people
32:45who
32:45are wanted out of the village and into the jail.
33:00I was stationed in this area for about two and a half years.
33:04It's a pretty small village.
33:06There's a school.
33:07There's a clinic, everything that they're going to need to survive and function.
33:10This was actually one of my favorite places to work.
33:13I actually miss being out here.
33:16A lot of times when I come in, everyone comes up to me and, you know, welcome home is what
33:21they always say to me when they see me.
33:23This first one we're going to has had a warrant for probably about a year now.
33:32How are you doing?
33:33Good.
33:34What's up, buddy?
33:35Is he here?
33:37Yes, he's in.
33:38Okay.
33:38He's got a warrant.
33:39Can we go in?
33:40Yes, yes.
33:41Okay.
33:50You guys didn't take care of it last year, so I don't really give a right now.
34:01Did you know you had a warrant?
34:03No, I did not.
34:05Have you been talking to your probation officer for the last year?
34:07How can I, if I can't even land a single job enough to pay for my phone?
34:13Yeah.
34:14That's probably why you got the warrant, because you weren't checking in with them.
34:18They're giving some parents, man.
34:20Well, for the ones that are wanting to change.
34:22Yeah.
34:23I haven't heard your name in a while, either.
34:25Exactly.
34:27You've been doing good.
34:28I agree with you 100%.
34:29Another reason why I should be getting off easy.
34:32That's up to the judge and your probation officer, but I agree that you've been doing good,
34:37because I haven't heard your name in a long time.
34:39Yeah.
34:40I'm done with that .
34:42Glad to hear that.
34:45Probation violations are pretty common.
34:47Probation is kind of hard in Western Alaska, because there's no probation officers nearby.
34:53They have to fly into Nome to do that a lot of times.
35:01We've got a few more stops we've got to make.
35:07How are you doing?
35:08All right.
35:08Good.
35:09Hey, officer.
35:10Put that sticker.
35:12We call it community policing.
35:14You just pass out the stickers.
35:16Spread the good vibes.
35:17This one's special.
35:18Look.
35:21That's me riding a polar bear.
35:23I want to find you.
35:24Yeah.
35:25I'll give you a hug.
35:26One of the benefits of working in these small villages like this, spend time in the community,
35:31you get to know everyone, and then it's so much easier to do this job.
35:34It wasn't like that when I first got out here.
35:37It took me a while to get street cred in the village.
35:49I'm going to have you hop in the passenger seat of this thing.
36:01It was a very successful day.
36:03We ended up coming back with seven people total.
36:07We were able to do it without any incidents, any use of force.
36:11We were able to also interact with people in the village, which is one of the best things
36:15that we can do out there to help build trust in the community.
36:35We're currently on the weekend night shift in Alaska.
36:39There's all kinds of variety of characters, and there's not really a usual day.
36:44Every day is different.
36:45I'm going to be 38 back on Clifford Test trip that far.
36:48Really?
36:49He's having in the area.
36:51He's about 39 years old, with black curly hair.
36:54He's trying to steal some water to lick her off the bar.
36:56He does have an ankle monitor on.
36:58The subject is trained in boxing and was arrested for assaulting hospital staff.
37:0310-4. 10-19.
37:05He's also carrying a skateboard and he was speaking a different language.
37:12So we just got dispatched to the tug bar.
37:14A male tried to steal some bottles of liquor from the bar
37:18in an area where there's not very much foot traffic,
37:20which should make him very easy to spot.
37:23And that might be him right there.
37:25Back home, 380.
37:26I've got the male KGB in Port-Dupine.
37:34I'm not touching you.
37:35I'll stand right over here.
37:36I just don't want you to get hit by the car.
37:38So why don't you just tell me real quick what happened at the bar?
37:41OK, I met this lady on my way.
37:43I tell her, listen, I'm trying to find another city,
37:46another place, because I have an ankle bracelet, right?
37:48I'm coming to jail.
37:49I got my paperwork right here.
37:51Perfect.
37:51So I'm just trying to get out of Anchorage,
37:53Palmer, and Wasilla, you know?
37:54OK.
37:54I was trying to find Fairbue, Fairbanks, Fairbue?
37:58Fairbanks?
37:59Fairbanks, Fairbanks.
38:00Are you allowed to go to Fairbanks while you're on ankle?
38:02Why not?
38:02Alaska, anywhere in Alaska.
38:03OK.
38:04Sometimes they restrict you.
38:05I don't know territories in Alaska,
38:07but so far what I know, anywhere in Alaska.
38:09You know?
38:09OK.
38:09Can you just put the skateboard down for me,
38:11just so we can talk without you having that in your hand?
38:13Yeah, yeah, yeah.
38:13OK.
38:14So you were trying to find a way to Fairbanks.
38:16My name is .
38:17And my birth certificate is .
38:20So it's myself in my own body.
38:22I don't know.
38:23Why should I use another body?
38:24Because I have my own one, right?
38:26I got my wallet.
38:27Hey.
38:27We got to talk about what happened at the bar, man.
38:29Hey, this lady.
38:30Nice lady.
38:31She offered me a bowl of soup.
38:32I eat it, delicious, with crackers and all that.
38:3510-4, can we have someone contact the bar
38:37to see if they want him charged with attempted death
38:39or just trespassed?
38:41So then I went to the party, and I heard a voice.
38:44I'm not crazy.
38:45It's like , grab any bottle and go.
38:47You know?
38:48And that's exactly what I did.
38:48Do you know who did that?
38:50How do I know if I was in the party sitting down?
38:51OK.
38:52Yeah, I didn't know.
38:52I didn't know if you saw him or not.
38:53That's exactly what I saw.
38:551B38, and I call him.
38:55They want a lifetime trespass.
38:57No criminal charges him.
38:58So you're good to go.
38:59I just have to tell you a couple things.
39:02You're trespassed.
39:03You can't.
39:03You won't see me here.
39:04Just let me finish.
39:05Yeah, yeah.
39:05It's a lifetime trespass, which means you
39:07can't ever go back there.
39:08Yeah, I know.
39:10Yeah, if you go back, you could get arrested.
39:12I know.
39:12I know.
39:13All right.
39:13You're good to go.
39:14I appreciate it.
39:15Have a safe one.
39:16I think he's a pretty nice guy.
39:18He's just going through some stuff right now.
39:20They don't want any charges for the attempted theft
39:23since he never actually got away with a liquor bottle.
39:25So he's been trespassed, and hopefully we don't get
39:27any further calls on him.
39:39I'm Sergeant Chris Davins.
39:41I work for the Alaska State Troopers.
39:42I've been working within this agency for 13 years now.
39:46Right now we're in a seasonal change.
39:48We're going into fall, which is usually like a couple of weeks
39:51long, and then all of a sudden winter hits.
39:54It gets colder.
39:55Starts to change over to the long sleeves.
39:57OK.
39:59Matt, come on me down.
40:01I'll be out at Shane's house on Willowa.
40:04This driver was, like, slumped over, and this is a known
40:08drug location, so we have to do a welfare check.
40:12Hey, are you OK?
40:13Yes.
40:14Yes, I'm fine.
40:15OK.
40:16Because you were, like, slumped down,
40:18and I thought you were having a drug overdose.
40:21Don't take the oxygen to work in my yard.
40:24If you have consumed any controlled substance,
40:27please don't drive.
40:29All right.
40:30Have a good day.
40:31Stay safe.
40:33Vehicle's not running.
40:34It's not like we have DUI in this case, but he is OK.
40:40Sugar Shane, the owner of the property,
40:42I think Shane's gracious enough, and people sometimes
40:45take advantage of him.
40:47What are you looking for?
40:48Somebody looked like they were passed out behind the wheel,
40:52and I was concerned about their welfare.
40:55Appreciate that.
40:56But it just so happens that obviously I
40:58know has been hanging around, and he
41:00was apparently riding a stolen four-wheeler, so.
41:03Is Mr. around?
41:04No, I have no idea how to tune in the old today.
41:06OK.
41:07I don't even know who's going to tune in the head.
41:10Can you show it to us?
41:11Yeah.
41:12All right, cool.
41:13I see you got a new trailer.
41:14I love it, huh?
41:15Yeah.
41:16I got to get it to us.
41:17Oh, excellent.
41:18What's going on?
41:22Tango, zero, six, five, eight.
41:25You got to be careful sometimes when folks are bringing
41:28stuff on the property.
41:29Yeah.
41:30They better be careful.
41:31I'll bring my foot up .
41:33OK.
41:34I'm not bucking a badge and a gun.
41:35That's for damn true.
41:38All right, Shane.
41:39It is stolen.
41:40So we're going to remove it from the property.
41:42Oh, it is stolen?
41:42It is stolen.
41:43OK.
41:44Well, we appreciate your help.
41:45So we'll get out of here for you.
41:48It fit?
41:49Yeah, it should fit.
41:51Unfortunately, we didn't get the operator of the ATV
41:54or the person who likely stole it.
41:56But good resolution in that we recovered it.
41:59It's going back to the owner.
42:02And it's one less thing that Shane has to deal with.
42:09Hopefully he kind of knows who to pay attention to
42:11and who shouldn't be on his property
42:13so he doesn't have consistent problems.
42:17It's a pretty successful end here.
42:19Luckily, somebody wasn't inconvenienced,
42:21especially the nine-year-old that operates it.
42:24Pretty decent ATV for a nine-year-old.
42:25There you go.
42:26All right, have a good one.
42:27You too.
42:28Thank you, sir.
