00:17You guys! Thank you! Thank you. Well, welcome to The Kelly Clarkson Show. I'm Tara Lipinski.
00:29And I'm Johnny Weir. And together, we are your guest hosts for today.
00:35Oh my God, Johnny, I am so excited for this, guys.
00:37I know. I can't believe we're here. Hello, everyone.
00:39I know. So how do you think we should open our first guest hosting show?
00:43Wow.
00:43Has to be good.
00:44Well, to be fair, I have been prepping my rendition of Because of You.
00:49You did not tell me this.
00:50Because you wouldn't be ready for it, and I don't think the audience is either.
00:53So we have to think, what would Brian Boitano do?
00:56Right.
00:57What would Brian do? Do you guys know?
01:01What would Brian Boitano do if he was here right now?
01:05He'd make a plan and he'd follow through.
01:07That's what Brian Boitano do.
01:09When Brian Boitano was in New England fixating for the gold.
01:12He had two South Cals and a triple lunch while wearing a blindfold.
01:15So what would Brian Boitano do if he were here today?
01:19I'm sure he'd kick an ass or two.
01:21That's what Brian Boitano do.
01:27Okay, guys, but I definitely think Brian would start with music.
01:31More music specifically from Kelly Clarkson.
01:35I think so.
01:35So here is a Kelly O'Kee encore.
01:38It's Kelly and her band with The Middle by Zedd, Maren Morris, and Gray.
01:52We got into this mess.
01:55Got so aggressive.
01:57I know we meant all good intentions
02:00Pull me closer, why don't you pull me close
02:04Why don't you come on over, I just can't let you go
02:10Oh baby
02:12Why don't you just meet me in the middle
02:17I'm losing my mind just a little
02:21So why don't you just meet me in the middle
02:25In the middle
02:29Looking at you, I can't lie
02:31Just pouring out a dish
02:34Regardless of my objection
02:36And it's not about my friends
02:40I need you on my skin
02:42Just come over, pull me in just
02:45Baby, baby
02:48Why don't you just meet me in the middle
02:52I'm losing my mind just a little
02:57Oh why don't you just meet me in the middle
03:00In the middle, middle
03:03Oh baby
03:06Oh why don't you just meet me in the middle
03:10I'm losing my mind just a little
03:15So why don't you just meet me in the middle
03:19In the middle
03:25Give it up for Kelly and her band Y'all
03:30All right, let's get our first guest out here
03:33If you've seen the Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, or the Planet of the Apes films in the last
03:37few decades
03:37You've likely seen our first guest
03:39Whether you recognize him or not
03:41He is the genius behind the motion capture acting that created memorable characters for a film
03:46Including King Kong and Gollum
03:48My precious
03:51That is scary
03:52I knew you were going to do something
03:54You're welcome
03:55His latest film, which he directed and stars in
03:57Is an animated retelling of the George Orwell classic Animal Farm
04:01It's in theaters now
04:02Please welcome everyone
04:04Andy Serkis
04:28This is so exciting
04:30We are pumped
04:31You're our first guest
04:33Oh wow, really?
04:34Yes
04:34Oh that's exciting
04:35We've never hosted a talk show before
04:38We're happy with you
04:40Well I just want to say congrats on Animal Farm
04:42I'm so excited for this
04:45I have a two and a half year old
04:47We'll watch it together
04:48Some stuff I'm assuming will go overhead
04:49But I am all in
04:50So tell me more
04:52It's based on Orwell, right?
04:54It's absolutely
04:55It's based on the book by George Orwell
04:57Animal Farm
04:58And it's a modern adaptation of it
05:00And we've been working on it for about 15 years
05:03Wow
05:03I read it when I was on the bus to school
05:07And I was so taken with the story
05:09I'm sure many people here have read it
05:11Who knows Animal Farm?
05:12Yeah
05:13It's a classic
05:14So it's the story of animals being treated really badly
05:18And then rebelling against the farmer
05:19And then setting up this wonderful bucolic utopia
05:23Which then falls apart
05:24Because the pigs decide that they're more important than anybody else
05:28Right
05:28Speaking of
05:29There's a new character named Lucky
05:31Can you tell us about him?
05:32So the way that we wanted to create this story was
05:35In the book you don't have any sort of main character to follow as such
05:39The pigs are rather sort of offstage characters
05:41So we created a character called Lucky
05:43Who's played by the incredible Gaten Matarazzo
05:46Got a stranger thing
05:48Yes
05:50And basically he is a young piglet
05:52Who grows up knowing that he is an animal
05:55Like all the other animals
05:56But then gets corrupted by Napoleon
05:59And so we follow his journey to being corrupted
06:02And taken under his wing
06:04And then he finally realizes he's made the wrong choices
06:07So it's so that we can
06:10For young children who are watching this film
06:13And this is going to be a family film
06:14And although it's a very dark story
06:16We've constructed it in such a way
06:18That it's cross-generational
06:20So kids can watch it with their parents and grandparents
06:22That's what I love
06:23And I feel like now I'm a first-time mom
06:25So she's two and a half
06:26But I feel like even watching anything
06:28She picks up so much
06:30And it's so valuable
06:31When these lessons are taught like that
06:33Yeah, and so it's all about creating a discussion
06:35And so seeing the world through this young piglet's eyes
06:37Who becomes corrupted
06:38And then has to realize that he's made wrong mistakes
06:42It's a really great way of starting a debate
06:45And that's what we wanted to do with our version
06:47Gorgeous
06:47And I know that there's
06:49You've got an all-star cast
06:51And I know some of me and T's favorites
06:53Are in the film
06:54Oh my gosh
06:54Jim Parsons
06:54Jim Parsons
06:55We've got Jim Parsons
06:56We've got Glenn Close
06:58We've got Woody Harrelson
07:00We've got Seth Rogen
07:01We've got Laverne Cox
07:03Tell me about Seth Rogen
07:05Tell me about Seth Rogen's laugh
07:07Because I've never met him in real life
07:09But I think I would just be
07:10So over the moon
07:12And enamored to hear him laugh in real life
07:14Especially for someone who
07:15Is so well known for your voice work
07:17How does Seth laugh?
07:18Yeah, pretty much
07:19Can you recreate it?
07:21But actually he does it much better than that
07:25Honestly, the cast are incredible
07:27And they all came on board
07:28Because they were passionate about the book
07:30And wanted to tell this story
07:31So, you know
07:32Did you have any pets growing up
07:34Or do you have pets now?
07:35I had a pet
07:36I was quite a rebellious kid
07:37And I actually
07:39When I was young
07:40Because my dad lived abroad
07:41And so my mum was bringing up kids
07:43All on her own
07:43And I decided to make her life
07:46A bit more difficult
07:48By going out to the pet shop
07:50And buying a gerbil
07:51Without her knowing
07:52And without permission
07:53Yeah, I kept in my room
07:55For a long time
07:56Wait, how old?
07:57I was about seven or eight years old
07:58Okay, just walked in
07:58I was like
07:59I'd like a gerbil, please
07:59I'd take up my pocket money
08:00I'll take the gerbil
08:01I took the gerbil
08:02I hid it in a little shoebox
08:04And then she went ballistic
08:06When she found out
08:07That, you know
08:08That what was going on
08:09Oh my gosh, my mum would too
08:10I used to take it to school
08:11In my pocket
08:11Put it in my desk
08:12I used to chew up all my books
08:13Oh, how cute
08:14Stuart Little
08:15We should get one
08:16Just take it around travel
08:17Absolutely not
08:18Just like when we're commentating
08:19Right on the booths
08:20It's right there?
08:20I've got him here, actually
08:23It's a family show
08:24Okay, well
08:26It is time
08:27For some commercials, guys
08:29And we have someone
08:30In the audience to help
08:31Hi, Tara and Johnny
08:32I'm Bess
08:33Andy, you are a legend
08:34In my household
08:35From Gollum
08:36In Lord of the Rings
08:37To Caesar
08:37In Planet of the Apes
08:39To your work
08:39In Mowgli
08:40Legend of the Jungle
08:41We're just obsessed
08:42I can't wait
08:43To see you bring
08:44More creatures to life
08:45In Animal Farm
08:46Stay here
08:47Tara and Johnny
08:48Have more with Andy
08:49After this
08:57Ah, pigs
08:59Are you in charge?
09:02Look
09:03Between you and me
09:04I want you animals
09:06To stay on this farm
09:08Am I right?
09:09And
09:10To do that
09:11You gotta pay
09:13The bank
09:14Money
09:15Now
09:16This
09:17Magic paper
09:19Is money
09:21You must give me
09:23A thousand magic papers
09:24Every month
09:26For the next 30 years
09:27Because if you don't
09:29I'll have to sell it
09:30To Pilkington
09:33Welcome back to
09:34The Kelly Clarkson Show
09:36I'm Tara Lukenski
09:37And I'm Johnny Weir
09:38And we're here with
09:39Andy Serkis
09:39Who's new film
09:40Animal Farm
09:41Is in theaters now
09:42Nationwide
09:45So tell me
09:46Why did you want
09:47To adapt
09:48This particular book
09:49I just found
09:50It's such an incredible
09:51Allegory
09:52And it speaks
09:53To our times
09:54It's a really
09:54Important story
09:55About the corruption
09:57Of power
09:58And about misinformation
09:59And disinformation
10:00And considering
10:01George Orwell wrote it
10:02You know
10:0380 years ago
10:04This is the 80th
10:05Anniversary actually
10:06Of the book
10:06It's so relevant
10:08It's eternally relevant
10:09This book
10:10And it's such an important
10:11Piece of literature
10:11But also we wanted
10:13To as I say
10:13It really wanted
10:15We wanted to make it
10:16So that it would speak
10:17To an audience now
10:18A young audience
10:18Yes and when you're
10:19That passionate
10:20You're going to make
10:20That come through
10:21But I love this
10:22Other passion
10:23Fun fact I heard
10:24About you
10:24So you actually
10:25Wanted to paint
10:26How did that lead
10:27Then to acting
10:29Well yeah
10:30It's a long story
10:30But I was obsessed
10:32With painting
10:33When I was about
10:33Seven years old
10:35Gerbils and painting
10:36Gerbils and painting
10:39And that was what
10:40I wanted to do
10:40I wanted to have
10:41Some sort of job
10:42In the arts
10:42And my parents
10:44Were like
10:44No you're going
10:45To get a proper job
10:45And then I continued
10:47Painting
10:48But when I went
10:48To college
10:49You had to do
10:50Another course
10:51In the first year
10:51So instead of
10:53Just visual arts
10:54I did theatre studies
10:55And then I started
10:55Making props
10:56And posters for theatre
10:57Shows and so on
10:58And then I started
11:00To do a little bit
11:01Of acting
11:01And then I gradually
11:02Got into acting
11:03And by the end
11:03Of my first year
11:04I phoned up my parents
11:05And I said
11:05It's okay
11:06I'm not going to be
11:07An artist
11:08I'm going to be an actor
11:09Why were they
11:10Were they a little
11:11On the fence about it
11:12They were not even
11:12On the fence about it
11:13They were like
11:16A tumbleweed
11:17When I told them
11:18I feel like
11:19It's a similar
11:20Thing to raising
11:21Athletes
11:22Where it's kind of
11:22Like dicey
11:23Like oh our kid's
11:23Going to have a future
11:24In this
11:25I want to win the Olympics
11:27But lucky for you
11:28Acting led you
11:29To a full family affair
11:31Including your wife
11:32Who we know
11:33From the crown
11:34We know from
11:34Bridgerton
11:35Lorraine Ashbourne
11:36Round of applause
11:36Please
11:39When did you all meet
11:40How did you come together
11:41We met at a theatre
11:43Called the Royal Exchange
11:43In Manchester
11:44And we actually
11:46Got together
11:47On a play
11:47But we didn't get
11:48Together just normally
11:50We as ourselves
11:51We were actually
11:52Improvising characters
11:53That we were playing
11:54So we thought
11:54The characters
11:55That we were playing
11:56Were going through
11:56A split up
11:57We thought it would
11:57Be really important
11:58To improvise
11:59How they got together
12:00So we met in character
12:01On a night out
12:03In Manchester
12:03At Manchester Piccadilly
12:05Station
12:05And we met in a pub
12:06In character
12:07And it just went on
12:09And on and on
12:10And that night
12:11You know we'd had a few
12:12You know it was
12:12Kind of all going well
12:13In character
12:14And then
12:15And then gradually
12:17We had a kiss
12:17In character
12:18And then
12:19Actually I wasn't
12:20Feeling too well
12:20Because I'd drunk too much
12:21And I threw up
12:22In character
12:22You know
12:24We got on the bus
12:25We went home
12:25And we went
12:26Oh dear
12:26I don't think
12:27We can spend
12:27Any time apart
12:28From each other
12:28After this
12:29And we've been
12:30Together ever since
12:30Oh my gosh
12:30That's incredible
12:30So you role
12:32You role played
12:33Your first date
12:35Yep
12:36Now Dahlin
12:38Is a really important
12:39Character to me
12:39And my family
12:40We're huge
12:40Lord of the Rings fans
12:41So
12:42Yeah his mom and dad
12:43Huge
12:44Yeah I mean
12:44They've got tattoos
12:45Lord of the Rings
12:46Inspired tattoos
12:47Truly
12:47And Elven Leaf
12:48And the tree
12:49I forget what
12:50The tree's actual name is
12:51Oh from Gondor
12:52Of Gondor
12:52Gondor yes
12:53Tree of Gondor
12:53But Gollum was
12:55Probably my favourite character
12:57From Lord of the Rings
12:57Aside from Orlando Bloom
13:00You know
13:00And Legola
13:02But where did Gollum's voice
13:05Come from
13:05I think that's important
13:07For me to know
13:07Right now
13:08Yeah
13:08Okay
13:08Well forgive me
13:09But it was actually
13:10Based on
13:11On my cat
13:14My cat was called
13:15Dears
13:16And when I was
13:16Trying to work
13:17On the physicality
13:19Of
13:19When I first
13:20I was going to
13:20Audition for
13:21Lord of the Rings
13:21I thought
13:22I can't just pull
13:23A voice out
13:23Of thin air
13:24I don't know
13:24I've got to base it
13:25On something
13:25And obviously
13:26It was the psychology
13:26Of the character
13:27And understanding
13:28Where his tension
13:29Was held
13:29And his guilt
13:30At killing his cousin
13:31And all of that
13:32But it was just like
13:33How do you
13:34Where does the voice
13:34Come from
13:35And then my cat
13:36Dizz
13:36Literally came into
13:37The kitchen
13:37Where I was
13:38Sort of thinking
13:38About things
13:39And he started
13:40To cough up furballs
13:41And I was watching
13:42His spine
13:43And it was sort of
13:44Going
13:46So that became
13:49Yay
13:51I did not know that
13:52That's amazing
13:55I can't even
13:55Talk to you anymore
13:56You just made my whole day
13:57So you take it
13:58Okay
13:59So I also hear
14:00That you climb mountains
14:02That feels very adventurous
14:04Tell me more
14:05I was obsessed with climbing
14:06From quite an early age
14:07It was again
14:08Based from a book
14:10I read on the bus
14:10I had my journey to school
14:12Was always on a bus
14:13And that was where
14:14I read Animal Farm
14:14For the first time
14:15It was where I read
14:16The Hobbit
14:16For the first time
14:17Actually
14:17But this book
14:19About the ascent of Everest
14:20The first ascent of Everest
14:22Really really
14:22Kind of enraptured me
14:24And so I just
14:26Started by going
14:28Going to sort of
14:30Local hills
14:31And did a little bit
14:31Of rock climbing
14:32And then gradually
14:33We started a club
14:34At school
14:35And I went to Scotland
14:37And the Lake District
14:38And then to the Alps
14:39And then it just
14:40Stayed with me
14:40That's my place
14:41My happy place
14:43Is up in the mountains
14:43Kept finding the mountains
14:44Is there a dream mountain
14:45That you haven't climbed yet?
14:46Well there's an amazing mountain
14:48In the Himalayas
14:49Called Amadablam
14:49Which is about
14:5026, I think it's
14:5126, 27,000 feet
14:52Which I would really like
14:54To go back and climb
14:55I've been to the Himalayas
14:56With my family
14:57Just trekking
14:58Just going up
14:59To the Everest base camp
15:00But I really want to go back
15:02And climb that mountain
15:03Please just be careful
15:04Yeah, be careful
15:05We could talk to you
15:07Literally all day
15:08Thank you so much
15:09But we have to do
15:10Some more commercials
15:11So everybody
15:12Give it up for Andy Serkis
15:15Animal Farm is in theaters now
15:18And look for Andy's memoir
15:19Coming out this fall
15:20We'll be right back
15:21With LeVay
15:36Welcome back to
15:37The Kelly Clarkson Show
15:38With Tara Lipinski
15:39And my bestie
15:40Johnny Weir
15:41Hey girl
15:42Can you believe we're here?
15:43It's so fun
15:44Our next guest
15:45Is a hugely talented musician
15:47She's a two-time Grammy winner
15:49And one of the youngest people
15:50Ever to win the award
15:51For best traditional
15:52Pop vocal album
15:55She was also
15:57A 2025 Time Woman of the Year
15:59Honoree
16:00And now she's just released
16:02Her first kids book
16:03It's called
16:04May May the Bunny
16:04And you can find it
16:06Wherever books are sold
16:07Everybody say hello
16:09To LeVay
16:28We're so excited to have you
16:30Obviously watching Alyssa
16:32Skate to your music
16:33At the Olympics
16:33Was a highlight for us
16:35Yeah I mean
16:35Promise has been in like
16:36My top ten playlist
16:37For two years now
16:39It's
16:40It was all so amazing
16:41Seeing Alyssa skate to it
16:43It just like brought
16:43This whole new meaning
16:44To the song
16:46And it was
16:47It was just so lovely
16:48And yeah
16:49I love my song
16:50I mean
16:51We've been aware of you
16:52For a long time
16:53Because of Alyssa's skating
16:54But for everyone watching
16:56But for everyone watching
16:56That doesn't know
16:57Olympic champion Alyssa Liu
16:58Skated to Promise
17:00By LeVay
17:00At the Olympics
17:01En route to winning
17:01The Olympic gold medal
17:07We're here to talk about
17:09A special book though
17:10And I want to ask
17:11How long you've been
17:12Working on it
17:12I've been working on it
17:14For well over two years now
17:16Wow
17:16And it's Mei Mei
17:18So Mei Mei is inspired
17:20By a stuffed animal
17:22Right?
17:22I mean everyone
17:23Loves a stuffy
17:23So explain this
17:25Well I'm
17:25So I'm born the year
17:26Of the rabbit
17:27And I'm half Chinese
17:28So I always had a lot
17:29Of rabbits around me
17:30Growing up
17:30And everybody gifted me
17:32Rabbits growing up
17:33So I had
17:34Yes
17:35I had a little rabbit
17:37That is in no state
17:39For public appearances
17:41As many stuffies
17:43That have lasted many years
17:45They can often be like that
17:47After 26 years
17:48But
17:48Wait is it the same stuffy?
17:50It's the same stuffy
17:52But Mei Mei is like a
17:54You had to fix it
17:55Mei Mei is a newer version
17:57Newer and improved
17:57No I would never say that
18:00She's a little different
18:01And it's kind of like
18:04My alter ego I feel like
18:05But like a children's version
18:06Amazing
18:07Do you still sleep
18:08With a stuffed animal?
18:09No but my daughter does
18:11And it looks so comforting
18:12That sometimes I take hers
18:13I'm like
18:13I think I've like
18:14Reverted back to being a child
18:16Since growing into this career
18:18Because now I go home from tour
18:20And I'm like
18:20My bunny
18:22I don't think I've ever grown up
18:24I still sleep with my panda
18:25That I got
18:26Oh you do
18:26At my first trip to New York
18:27When I was 12
18:29And I got him an F.A.O. Schwartz
18:30And I still have him
18:31He's filled with beans
18:32He's heavy
18:32I can't sleep without him
18:35But you know
18:36The story is compelling
18:38Because it's all about mistakes
18:40Yeah
18:41And how
18:42Like tell me about the story
18:44And why
18:45Like why you relate to Maymay
18:47Well I grew up playing classical music
18:49And studying music
18:50So I've been on a stage
18:51Since I was very young
18:53And I think one thing
18:55That it's really taught me to do
18:56Is to overcome
18:58Both performance anxiety
18:59But also kind of reframing mistakes
19:02And you know
19:03Mistakes don't always have to be
19:05This life-ending terrible thing
19:07I think we learn a lot from them
19:09And I think also
19:10You know
19:11Going on stage
19:12Having that buzz
19:12Those butterflies in your stomach
19:14That can often be a good thing
19:16And people often ask me now
19:18Like how to overcome
19:19Performance anxiety
19:21And I always say
19:24Like one of the biggest ways
19:26Of overcoming performance anxiety
19:27Is understanding that
19:28Mistakes are okay
19:30And they don't really change anything
19:32As long as you stay on stage
19:34And push through
19:35Sometimes it can just be
19:37A part of the beauty of it
19:38It's probably just
19:40It's probably for all performers
19:42Because that's so similar to skating
19:45The nerves and the adrenaline
19:47And when I was little
19:48I used to be so afraid of it
19:49I would want to push it away
19:50And then like you said
19:52Eventually I worked with
19:53A sports psychologist
19:53Who told me
19:54Just like let it be there
19:55They're there to help you
19:57The nerves
19:57That means you're excited
19:58And you're about to have fun
19:59And it's going to make you
20:00Better at what you do
20:01I think like
20:02If you're not nervous
20:03Then you don't care about it enough
20:05To be putting yourself
20:06In that position
20:06So completely relate to that
20:08There is a melody
20:09Maymay's melody
20:10Yes
20:11At the front of the book
20:11Did that come before the book
20:13Or after?
20:14It came after the book
20:16Amazing
20:16So I always knew
20:17I was going to write a melody
20:18But I needed the story
20:19To guide me a little bit
20:20And I thought it needed
20:21To just be a piece
20:23That reminded me
20:24Of my childhood
20:25Of what I practiced growing up
20:27And I really wanted it
20:29To be inspired by Beethoven
20:30Because he's one
20:31Of my favorite composers
20:32But also
20:33Maymay's pet bee
20:34Is called Beethoven
20:36Ah
20:38I love it
20:38So we
20:39Yeah I feel like
20:40Is this too much
20:41We were talking about this
20:42We have a piano
20:42Right over there
20:43Would you play
20:44A little for us
20:49I will try my back
20:50Okay let's do it
20:51Let's do it
20:52I will
20:52I will
20:53I will try my back
20:54Off you go
20:58Yay thank you
20:59This is like
21:00A very simple
21:01Eight bar melody
21:01So I hope
21:02No one's
21:03I love
21:03Eight bar melody
21:07Alright
21:08Okay
21:09Get it girl
21:10Here we go
21:10You know what
21:11If I mess up
21:11Am I not just
21:12Telling the story
21:13Of the book
21:14Like mistakes
21:15We will dance
21:16Theatrically
21:17If there's a mistake
21:18We will cover it
21:19We'll cover for you
21:20You just start
21:21We'll just like
21:22We're just gonna glide
21:23And twirl
21:25Okay
21:26You'll do a triple axel
21:27For you
21:28Certainly
21:28Yes
21:28Okay
21:28All for you
22:08You'll do a triple axel
22:13Next though
22:14So stay right here
22:45Welcome back to the Kelly
22:45Johnny is so proud of this
22:46Absolutely
22:49But my journey
22:50To get to Georgie
22:52Was very difficult
22:52My journey to motherhood
22:54Was extremely hard
22:56And I struggled
22:57With fertility
22:58For years
22:59I had countless
22:59Miscarriages
23:00And surgeries
23:02And a lot of loss
23:03Before Georgie
23:04Was born
23:05Through surrogacy
23:06Which I'm so grateful for
23:07And personally
23:09I was really lucky
23:10To have all of those resources
23:12And I'm well aware
23:13That not many people
23:14Always have that opportunity
23:16Especially when their health
23:18Is at risk
23:19And our next guest
23:20Is the founder
23:20Of the Chick Mission
23:21It's a non-profit
23:22That helps preserve fertility
23:23For women diagnosed
23:24With cancer
23:25And that makes her
23:26A rad human
23:33She's also a cancer survivor herself
23:35Please help us to welcome
23:36Amanda to the show
23:37Thank you so much
23:42For being here
23:43And you know
23:44I know that this is
23:46Personally I know about
23:48What you do
23:49So but I want to tell
23:50Everyone else
23:50It's an incredible organization
23:52And can you explain why
23:54It's so very very important
23:56So as you may or may not know
23:59Young adult cancer
24:00Is on the rise
24:01And although that is really scary
24:04Survivorship is also on the rise
24:05So when you think about
24:07Your full life
24:08After cancer
24:09You want that option
24:10To become a parent
24:11And one of the things
24:13That is sort of a lesser known
24:15Thing that people talk about
24:17Is infertility
24:18So if you have chemotherapy
24:19The quality and quantity
24:21Of your eggs
24:21Can diminish quite rapidly
24:23And so we are
24:24The Chick Mission
24:25We're all about helping
24:26Young women with cancer
24:27Preserve their fertility
24:28Cover the cost of egg freezing
24:30Because it can be very expensive
24:31It could be
24:32I mean egg freezing
24:33I've done it myself many times
24:35It's $20,000
24:37Just to go through that process
24:39And I just think it's
24:40You know
24:40For someone like me
24:42Who was trying to become a mom
24:44For a half decade
24:45Without going through
24:48A medical journey
24:49That many women face
24:51Through cancer
24:52Fighting for their lives
24:53And then afterwards
24:54When they want to rebuild
24:55Their life
24:55And build a family
24:57And look forward
24:58And hopefully have children
25:00If they don't have that option
25:02That's just more loss
25:04On top of loss
25:05So I mean you're just changing
25:07So many people's lives
25:08So thank you
25:09Thank you
25:09Yes thank you for what you do
25:12This was inspired by
25:14Your own cancer journey
25:16Tell us about that
25:17I was diagnosed
25:19Not one
25:20Not two
25:21But three times
25:22In my 30s
25:23And it took my breath away
25:25You know
25:26It was the third time
25:27I was diagnosed
25:28The prognosis was really good
25:30But I was still scared
25:33It was the moment
25:34Where I actually had
25:35Fertility benefits
25:36And went to freeze my eggs
25:37And the insurer told me
25:39That I didn't qualify
25:40Because I wasn't infertile yet
25:41Yeah it's
25:43It is just
25:45So much work needs to be done
25:47In this area
25:48And especially because
25:49It's not only emotionally draining
25:52Physically draining
25:53But financially
25:54The cost
25:56So what are the financial
25:57Financial requirements
25:59For the program
26:00And how exactly does that work
26:01You know it's need based
26:03But we try to be really generous
26:04Because it costs
26:05$15,000 to $20,000
26:06To freeze your eggs
26:07So if you're a single woman
26:09$150,000 or less
26:11Will make you qualify
26:13If that's your income
26:14If you're a couple
26:16$250,000 or less
26:18You would qualify
26:18For one of our grants
26:19Which is
26:20It can change so many
26:22So many people's lives
26:23And build families
26:25And I know that you're also
26:27Doing something that actually
26:28I'm involved in
26:29And that's fighting
26:30To change fertility laws
26:32I actually was just
26:34On Capitol Hill
26:35Fighting for this
26:36Demanding that we get
26:37This insurance
26:38But go on
26:39Thank you
26:43All of our voices matter
26:45Our state
26:46And federal politicians
26:48They want to hear from us
26:49What's important
26:50What's important to the future
26:51And so we've gone state by state
26:54And lend our voices
26:56And our stories
26:57And the stories
26:58Of our grant recipients
26:59To legislators
27:01To tell them
27:02We can band together
27:03And change this
27:04And so far
27:0521 state laws have changed
27:07We're part of a broader coalition
27:09That has just worked tirelessly
27:11To get this done
27:12And we're currently
27:13Working on legislation
27:14In both Arizona
27:15And Pennsylvania
27:16So if anybody
27:18In this audience
27:19You guys
27:20Anyone that you know
27:21You can sign a letter
27:22Of support
27:23It takes 15 seconds
27:24Just sign the letters
27:25It's amazing
27:25I'm
27:26It's so efficient
27:28Efficient way to change
27:31We do need to take a short break
27:33And when we come back
27:34We'll meet a mom
27:34Who just had her first baby
27:36Thanks to the chick mission
27:51Welcome back to the Kelly Clarkson show
27:54I'm Johnny Weir
27:55And this is my dearest friend
27:56In the world
27:56Tara Lipinski
27:58And we are here with Amanda
28:00The founder of the chick mission
28:02Which helps women
28:03Diagnosed with cancer
28:04Pay for expensive
28:05Fertility treatments
28:06And we're also now joined
28:07By Rebecca
28:08Who turned to the chick mission
28:09After her cancer diagnosis
28:10Okay
28:11So you always wanted to be a mom
28:14Was it a dream that you had
28:16From being a little girl
28:18Or where did that come about?
28:20Yes
28:20I come from a big Italian
28:22Irish family
28:23I have multiple cousins
28:24On both sides of the family
28:26And I actually grew up
28:27With all of my cousins
28:28Aunts and uncles
28:29Siblings
28:29On one piece of property
28:30So a big family
28:32Was always something
28:33That I saw for myself
28:34Therefore
28:35Fertility was always
28:36At the top of my mind
28:37I was 28
28:39As single as could be
28:40And really wanted to make sure
28:43That I could have kids
28:44So I went to the doctor
28:45And got just a regular checkup
28:48And then came back
28:49With an abnormal pap smear
28:51Long story short
28:52It ended up being
28:53Cervical cancer
28:54It was tumor based
28:55I had to move very quickly
28:56It was a fertility
28:58Preservation type situation
28:59And I got recommended
29:01By a friend
29:02To reach out to the chick mission
29:05They saw my story
29:06Read my file
29:08And really just stepped in
29:11With no questions asked
29:12And really just like
29:14Was there with me
29:15And just said
29:15Okay we're going to do this
29:16We're going to preserve
29:17Your option to be a mom
29:18While you're also dealing
29:20With this life threatening illness
29:21I'm sure they were cheerleading
29:22You the whole way through
29:23But we understand
29:24Something unexpected
29:25Happened in the middle
29:26Of your journey
29:27Yes
29:27Five days after my egg retrieval
29:29I met my husband
29:31Which was really the last thing
29:32That was on my mind
29:33You're like 15 pounds heavier
29:35Than you want to be
29:36From IVF treatments
29:37And then our mutual friend
29:39Ashley set us up
29:41And we just hit it off
29:44Really right away
29:45And moved very quickly
29:46We both wanted a family
29:47We knew that it was going to
29:48Look a lot different for us
29:49Than most people
29:51We didn't know how long
29:51It was going to take
29:52So we met
29:54We fell in love
29:54We got married
29:55On New Year's Eve
29:56Of 2024
29:57And we now have
29:59A little baby boy Tino
30:00Who was just born
30:01In January
30:03Congratulations
30:04Congratulations
30:04Oh that's amazing
30:06That must be
30:07So exciting for you
30:09Right
30:10Like when you get the call
30:11Or you hear the news
30:12That something that you did
30:14You know two years ago
30:15Or whatever it was
30:16That little embryo
30:18Then that you were able
30:19To create
30:19Is now earth side
30:21I can't even imagine
30:22It's crazy
30:22I mean we have
30:23Rewarding
30:2413 babies from our program
30:25So far
30:26And every time one arrives
30:27I just lose my mind
30:29I know
30:29Okay but that's not
30:31The only exciting news
30:33No
30:33Everyone likes to say
30:35That me and my husband
30:36Go from like zero to 100
30:37Very quick
30:38And we really hit this one
30:39Out of the park
30:40We because of my situation
30:42And how we didn't know
30:44How long everything
30:45Was going to take
30:45It was a very high risk
30:46Pregnancy
30:47So we didn't know
30:47If it was going to be
30:48Successful or not
30:49We did surrogacy
30:51Simultaneously
30:52And our gestational carrier
30:54Is pregnant
30:55And we are welcoming
30:56Our second
30:57Wow
30:59Wow
31:00Congratulations
31:01I did surrogacy too
31:03Yes
31:03It's a very different journey
31:05And I'm sure
31:06It was very challenging
31:08And I can understand
31:09All of those nuances
31:10But to be able
31:11To have two embryos
31:13From my egg retrieval
31:14With Chick Mission
31:15Now
31:15You know
31:16Become my kids
31:17Is really something
31:18Something that
31:18I couldn't have imagined
31:19I know you definitely have
31:22Yes
31:24And I feel like
31:25You may have
31:26A very special message
31:27For Amanda
31:27Yes
31:28I just want to say
31:29Thank you
31:30To you
31:30And to Chick Mission
31:31Because like I said
31:33You know
31:33You stepped in immediately
31:34Gave the money
31:35Gave the medication
31:36They are literally
31:37Shipped to your house
31:37And you become a doctor
31:38Very quickly
31:39And they were shipped
31:40To my house
31:41But the fact that
31:42You and Tracy
31:44And all of Chick Mission
31:45Heard my story
31:46Were on my team
31:47Were on my side
31:47And now have given me

31:57Can we hug you guys
31:59Can we please hug
32:00Oh

32:06Thank you so much
32:07For what you did
32:08I really do
32:11Well done
32:12Okay so we just
32:12Come on to Kelly Clark
32:14Cry
32:15It's fine
32:16Okay but I have
32:17Some more exciting news
32:19The owners of Lola Blankets
32:20Created their company
32:22In memory of their mom Amy
32:23During her cancer battle
32:25Amy's blanket brought her
32:27So much comfort
32:28And before she passed
32:29Amy gave each of her kids
32:30A blanket to always feel her love
32:32To help you give more women
32:34Hope for the future
32:35And in honor of their mom
32:37They're donating
32:38Five thousand dollars
32:41Thank you for everything
32:46You do
32:47And congratulations
32:47That's amazing
32:49Wonderful news
32:49But guys
32:50Let's take another quick break
32:52We have an exclusive performance
32:53With the singer-songwriter
32:53Girlie next
33:07Welcome back
33:08Our next guest
33:09Is a London-based singer-songwriter
33:11Whose songs cover topics
33:13Like queer love
33:14Feminism
33:14And mental health
33:15Her sound is a blend
33:17Of many genres
33:17Including pop and rock
33:19Her cutting-edge lyrics
33:20Have gained her a dedicated
33:22Fanbase worldwide
33:22Performing her protest song
33:24Slap on the wrist
33:25From her upcoming album
33:26It's Just My Opinion
33:27Give it up
33:28For Girlie
33:31If I could be king for a day
33:33He wouldn't fill me up
33:36On the train
33:36I never have to spit
33:39In his face
33:40I take my shot off
33:42And run down the inner state
33:44You could be the queen
33:45For a change
33:46Get a little taste
33:48With my pain
33:49Your eyes on your drink
33:51On the first date
33:52Walking home alone
33:54When it's dark
33:55In the rain
33:56They said it's my fault
33:58Even when he got caught
34:01Guess it's a big bad world
34:05For a pretty young girl
34:07So I got my key to the fish
34:11Just in case he persists
34:14Cause once I didn't want to kiss
34:17And all that he got
34:19Was his love on earth
34:20That he was made for a day
34:23Told me you'd fill the bridge
34:26They'd play it on my own fair
34:30And all that he got
34:31Was his love on the wrist
34:36Switch parties
34:37We could trade plays
34:39You could put the makeup
34:41On your face
34:42Hey girl, what's up?
34:44She was drunk
34:45You were scum
34:46How the hell were you turned on?
34:48They said my purity's gone
34:51But when he took me wrong
34:54Guess it's a big bad world
34:57You're a pretty young girl
35:00So I got my keys in your face
35:04Just in case he persists
35:07Cause once I didn't want to kiss
35:10And all that he got
35:12Was his love on earth
35:13That he was made for a day
35:16Told me you'd feel the rage
35:18They blamed it on my outfit
35:22And all that he got
35:24Was his love on the red
35:26It's all that I want
35:27Is the right to exist
35:29And all that I want
35:30Is to walk with no risk
35:32All that they said
35:33Was my case was dismissed
35:35And all that he got
35:36Was his love on the red
35:44And all that he got
35:44Cause once I didn't want to kiss
35:47And all that he got
35:49Was his love on the red
35:50Did you want me for a day
35:53Just in case you'd feel the rage
35:55They begged me and all my outfit
35:59And all that he got
36:01Was his love on the red
36:03And all that he got
36:36One more time
36:37Give it up for My Girlie
36:38Her new album
36:39It's Just My Opinion
36:40Drops Friday
36:41Get it wherever
36:42You get your music
36:43And you can see it on tour
36:44Starting next month
36:45We'll be right back
36:46With What We're Liking
36:58We've had so much fun this hour
37:00Haven't we Jay?
37:01I've had an absolute blast
37:02Oh my gosh
37:03But before we go
37:04Let's share a fun story
37:05From the world of social media
37:07This is what we're liking
37:12It's not just ice skating
37:13And fabulous outfits
37:14That bond us
37:15Some people don't know this
37:16But Tara and I are actually both
37:18From the Philadelphia metro area
37:20Can we hear it for Philly?
37:23That's a very
37:23That's like a
37:24That was a week
37:25Let's hear it for Philly
37:27Yeah
37:27Go Philly
37:29It's a little bit better
37:30But that's why we love this next story
37:33Two friends help run a non-profit
37:35That uses goats
37:36To teach wellness
37:37And community engagement
37:39It's called the Philly Goat Project
37:41And their mission is to provide
37:42Accessible wellness activities
37:43In nature
37:44They even bring the goats
37:45Into the city
37:46For different events
37:46So say hi to our friends
37:48Karen and Leslie
37:49Who watch on NBC
37:5010 Philadelphia
37:53Hi guys
37:54So where did you come up
37:57With this idea
37:57Because it is genius
37:59Oh thank you so much
38:01And we're so honored
38:02To be with you guys today
38:03In our favorite city
38:06I came up with this
38:07Because I'm a social worker
38:09And I was working with families
38:10Who were struggling
38:11For 30 years
38:13I was doing this kind of work
38:14And it was very isolating
38:15Both for me
38:17And the families
38:17A lot of families
38:18And people who were suffering
38:20Really were isolated
38:22And I thought about
38:23What were ways
38:24To get people outside in nature
38:26Even in the middle of the city
38:28Which we are
38:29In Germantown
38:30And I thought
38:31Animals bring people together
38:32And we have 13 amazing goats
38:34And what we do
38:36With our goats
38:36Is pretty cool
38:38Because we have now
38:40Over a million people
38:42That we have impacted
38:44Through our programs
38:45And our motto is
38:46Goats for the greater good
38:47And we do a lot of good stuff
38:49With our beautiful
38:50Very versatile goats
38:53They're so cute
38:54They're so cute
38:55Can you introduce us
38:56To some of them?
38:57Yeah, what's that guy's name?
38:58Yeah
38:58This guy is Ray
39:00Hey, Ray
39:01He looks needy
39:02Is he needy?
39:04But he is doing amazing
39:07Most of our goats
39:08Are named after
39:08Famous Philadelphians
39:10Who made the world
39:10A better place
39:11Ray is named
39:12After Ray Pace Alexander
39:14Who was the first
39:15African American
39:15Circuit Court judge
39:16In the United States
39:18We also have
39:20Oh, Ray Pace
39:21Speaking of
39:23A lot of people
39:24Don't know
39:25That Billie Holiday
39:26Was born in Philadelphia
39:27Yes, she was
39:29So this is Holiday
39:30Named after
39:31Billie Holiday
39:32And I could go on and on

39:36To introduce

39:39This is Joy
39:40As she runs away
39:42Bye, Joy
39:42She's named Joy
39:43Because that's what
39:44We want people
39:45To take from our program
39:46Well, thank you so much
