00:02A federal judge has released a note allegedly written by Jeffrey Epstein before his death
00:08inside a Manhattan jail. The note was supposedly discovered by Epstein's former cellmate
00:13after Epstein's first suspected suicide attempt, less than two weeks before he died.
00:18In the letter, Epstein claims authorities had investigated him for months and found nothing.
00:24He also writes, quote,
00:25It is a treat to be able to choose one's time to say goodbye.
00:30The document was unsealed after the New York Times asked a federal judge
00:34to release records connected to Epstein's former cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglioni.
00:39Tartaglioni told investigators he found the note inside a book
00:43after Epstein was discovered on the floor of their cell in July of 2019
00:47with a strip of bedsheet around his neck.
00:50Eleven days later, guards found Epstein dead in his cell in what authorities ruled a suicide.
00:55At the time, he was being housed alone despite the earlier incident.
01:00The note had never been publicly released and was not included in prior government reports
01:05or the Justice's Department release of thousands of Epstein-related files.
