00:00are beating Italy in their opening game. Austria's midfield playmaker Andreas Herzog was left
00:05out of the starting line-up, but he came on for Dietmar Kubauer at the start of the second
00:10half. Marcus Schopp also replaced Harold Czerny after a goalless 45 minutes. We joined the
00:15game early in the second half with the score still 0-0, and watching this one for us in
00:20St Etienne were Trevor Brookings and John Champion.
00:30This is Herzog, Arnold Vettel squeezed through to Polster, he does prefer his left foot, and
00:42the cross, oh, Haas half went for it, and that was enough to confuse Marcus Schopp who would
00:48have had a much better opportunity. A great chance that was, super flow from Poggedy ducked
00:54so late Haas, I'm sure Schopp must have called, that's why he ducked, but he left it too late
00:59and Schopp hadn't set himself up.
01:03Without question, the best moment that Austria have produced. But now this could be Chile's
01:08best moment, this is Paraguay's. Villa-Royal, Zamorano to his right, Salas to his left.
01:18I have to say, Austria are looking better this second half, and they do look as if they are
01:23wanting to get those three points, so perhaps we are going to see a better game this second
01:28period.
01:35This is Acuna, and now Villa-Royal, and Austria haven't picked him up at all.
01:46Well, they had a couple to his left, went for the drive himself, and it was a good stop
01:51by Consul.
01:53It was a good save, but I'm not sure it was actually going to go in the goal, I mean
01:57his
01:57shooting in the first half was poor, they had a lot of space to get into Villa-Royal.
02:03This is Chile's first corner, taken by Estai. Now there seemed to be a hand that went up
02:09there. I have a feeling it was Marcus Schopp. He was certainly the Austrian defender who appeared
02:14to be closest to the ball. The referee is waving aside appeals for a penalty.
02:21See, that's the one, he did flip the hand, the arm was up. That was Schopp, and the referee
02:27this side didn't notice it.
02:36Lost by Schopp, and here's Marcelo Salas, Zamorano's completely free, there's the pass, and it was
02:44a poor one. Consul got up his line quickly, but really, Zamorano should have received a
02:51ball that would have enabled him to leave Mikael Consul absolutely helpless.
02:56The two shots had an eventful entry, hasn't he? He should have scored that for Austria at
03:01one end, and he could have had the handball in there, a mistake, release, great little build-up
03:07between the trio, Rojas, and as you say, Salas, square ball, it was a fairly straight forward
03:12run on his left foot, and he put it too close to Consul, look at that, bouncing along, and
03:16he's got to give a firm one, square, that's what his goalkeeper Tapia thinks of it.
03:27Herzog, and Herzog picking up the return as well, two to his left, that's Vettel, now
03:34Melech, Haas, and Tony Polster, back to Haas, and back now to Vettel, Margass made the
03:42tackle.
03:44It was a good tackle, but Vettel should have passed it to Herzog, he was in acres of space,
03:48just on the right-hand side of the goal, just one touch he needed, and he wasn't happy,
03:52because he let it be known to better than what he thought.
04:00Have you seen enough to suggest that we might see a goal?
04:03Oh, that's pushing it a bit, I think both sides, to Austria from their point of view,
04:09had definitely with Herzog come on look more threatening, it's this man here, Sierra,
04:12needs to just spread around, a little Melech has got quite close to him on a lot of occasions,
04:16and so he's having to do it quite deep.
04:19This is Clarence Acuna, taking on Melech.
04:25And the referee didn't like the way that Melech tried to stop Acuna, and was given the free kick.
04:38I'm sure he just seemed to lose his balance a little bit, there's a little nudge in the back there,
04:42yes, to be fair.
04:46It's a little surprise that Sierra has gone across to take it.
04:52Zamorano up there, of course.
04:55So too is Margos from the back, is Sierra's radar working?
04:58It is!
04:59And is it over the line?
05:00Salas had the last touch, the referee looks to the linesman, and gives the goal,
05:05and it's Marcelo Salas that celebrates most of all.
05:08Zamorano had the initial effort, that was blocked on the line,
05:12and the finishing touch seemed to come from the man who scored twice against England,
05:16and twice more in this competition against Italy,
05:19and the Chileans celebrate, because at long last, hallelujah,
05:23we have a goal.
05:25Good delivery, wasn't it, by Salas, heads it down, it was a wonderful save by Consul.
05:29Salas followed up, and Consul is claiming that it wasn't over the line,
05:33it's one of those, I think he's fallen behind the line, and he's covered it with his body.
05:38Let's see if it's a better angle there.
05:40It's not over the line then, but it does fall back then,
05:43and I think it did just slip over the line, and then he pushed it back onto the line.
05:47Very unlucky, Consul.
05:52And Zamorano seemed very keen to claim the goal,
05:55but from the replay it did seem that Salas got the touch that mattered.
05:59Yeah, I think Zamorano, a first header, but Consul made a great save to that,
06:03and it wouldn't have been over the line then, it was the follow-up from Salas.
06:07Polster, now Herzog, that's a good cross, that's Haas, and Polster on his left, miss hit it.
06:17On his favoured foot as well.
06:20Well, he puts a drop in over his shoulder, I suppose it is a difficult one.
06:32Polster, Herzog, oh it'll fall for Polster, and for Vastiche, and this is Schopp, can he pull it back?
06:43And as far as Reyes, Vastiche, wouldn't come down for him.
06:49Quite a bit of sloppy defending, but a silly defence there, I mean, there were two or three occasions that
06:55they should have got it away.
06:56In the end, look at the numbers that they got back, and all right, Vastiche just logged it over the
07:01crossbar in the end.
07:02But I thought there were one or two occasions where they could have gone in with a firmer tackle earlier.
07:07This is Zamorano, Pfeffer across, and Consul, I think, just got a touch,
07:13which probably made the difference between that sneaking inside the post and passing the other side.
07:19Well, just, first touch was excellent, that was going into the corner.
07:22Superb save, Consul has had a good game.
07:25Wonderful ball by Sierra again, I mean, the service now to the strikers is that much better.
07:29He thought he had scored, and he still can't put his finger up for one goal, can he?
07:36Here's Sierra's kick, and Castaneda!
07:44His left foot as well struck it, just wasn't low enough, was it?
07:50Well, the fourth official has appeared, and there will be three minutes of time added on.
07:55Just to remind you, it was in the 92nd minute that Austria got their equaliser against Cameroon.
08:06Herzog went over it, it was asked to get up.
08:09Play's allowed to continue, it's three against two.
08:11Zamorano and Salas and Sierra against Shuttle and Pfeffer.
08:17Salas, Sierra says to the referee that my run was blocked by Shuttle.
08:22Mr Gandor from Egypt was unimpressed.
08:28Feierzinga.
08:37Marcus Schopp.
08:40Posted for Polster.
08:43It's Fuentes who made the header, only as far as Vethel.
08:47This time Magas.
08:50Out as far as Schopp.
08:53Meili.
08:55First each has come short.
08:57And he's allowed to run, and to score!
09:04And unbelievably, for the second match running,
09:07Austria have scored in the 92nd minute, to surely rescue a draw.
09:14Nelson Tapia can't believe it.
09:17And Nor can 30,000 Chileans in St Etienne.
09:22They're either extremely lucky, or very durable.
09:26But what a terrific finish.
09:29We can't believe it, either.
09:31Bastich did superbly.
09:32Look, he was allowed to turn by Fuentes and Reyes.
09:36Both of them sat back.
09:37Look, they're not marking anyone.
09:38They came late.
09:40Superb strike though, you've got to give them a lot of credit.
09:43And then Austria, well, with that lack, they'll probably end up qualifying for this group.
09:46I mean, to score twice in extra time.
09:49Tapia can't believe it, can he?
09:54And nor can many of the rest of us.
09:58And there can surely be virtually no time left for Chile to find any sort of riposte at all.
10:04Hit forward by Baezinger.
10:06And there's the final whistle.
10:08And the goal arrived with less than a minute to go.
10:13And Austria have escaped.
