00:00:05Good morning everyone it is day two of auditions for Australian Idol. The fever
00:00:09has taken over everyone right now. Singers are traveling from all corners of the
00:00:13country to chase their idol dream. I'm on the Australian Idol bus. I'm doing this for
00:00:18UWA. Let's go. How are you going? I'm here to make you guys proud. I'm doing this for Freemantle.
00:00:39Back to smart. We're doing this for you guys.
00:00:48I'm doing this for you Brisbane. Ballarat. Adelaide. Monington Peninsula. All within the Gold Coast.
00:00:56Everybody welcome to Australian Idol auditions. Who's ready to go tonight?
00:01:08It's day two auditions and hundreds of hopefuls have traveled all over the country to be right here at Idol
00:01:14HQ.
00:01:14Welcome to Idol. G'day. Welcome to Idol. No. No you didn't.
00:01:23But despite the distance this is not the end of their journey. It's only the beginning.
00:01:30Day one got off to a red hot star.
00:01:32Yes.
00:01:33That's the best audition I have ever seen. The judges awarded five coveted golden tickets. So who will impress today?
00:01:44Do these singers have what it takes to be the next Australian Idol?
00:01:54OK. No time like the present. Let's bring the first one in please. Let's go.
00:02:07Howdy.
00:02:08Hi.
00:02:08Hello.
00:02:09How are you?
00:02:10I'm good. How are you?
00:02:11Very well sir. What's your name?
00:02:12My name's Charlie. I'm from Perth.
00:02:14Charlie from Perth.
00:02:15Yes.
00:02:16OK Charlie, how old are you?
00:02:17I'm 31.
00:02:18You got a cool vibe too. I love your outfit.
00:02:21Style is a big part of this show.
00:02:24I have an orange beanie that I'm obsessed with too. At the moment it's something about an orange beanie. Just
00:02:28pops.
00:02:29What do you do for a living?
00:02:31I'm a musician and I also take care of my dad who has cancer.
00:02:35Oh. It gets you. That stuff.
00:02:37It sure does. It really does.
00:02:39Wow. That's a big job.
00:02:41It is a big job. Yeah. It's actually both my parents. Unfortunately my mum passed away. I was her full
00:02:46time carer. She's no longer here.
00:02:48Oh my god Charlie.
00:02:50Yeah.
00:02:51Far out.
00:02:55And that's, I don't know when that is. Do you know?
00:02:58Just laying there with mum.
00:02:59Yeah.
00:03:00It's one of the things when I was younger I actually remember. I remember that day.
00:03:03I used to float. Now I just fall down.
00:03:09My mum was a beautiful person. I used to call her like the light beacon because people would just attract
00:03:16to her.
00:03:18Bubbly, just laughing all the time. She had a laugh that you could hear from down the street.
00:03:21What was I made for?
00:03:27Something really wasn't right with her. She wasn't her normal self and we took her straight to the hospital.
00:03:32They said, I'm really sorry to say but you, your mum has a brain tumour the size of a blood
00:03:38orange in her head.
00:03:40Think I forgot how to be happy.
00:03:45A couple of days later she had brain surgery, couldn't remove all the tumour.
00:03:49And then she had chemo, radiology. She was just so, so brave.
00:03:53She passed away very peacefully and I was there with her so she lasted about a year.
00:03:58A year, yeah.
00:04:03I wouldn't trade the sacrifice that I made for anything because I got to spend that time with my mum.
00:04:13But you know what, props to you for looking after them when they needed you as they looked after us
00:04:20when we needed them.
00:04:21You know what?
00:04:22Of course, yeah. And so it was my pleasure to look after them.
00:04:24You bet it is, man. What are you going to sing?
00:04:26I'm going to sing Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish.
00:04:30Why Billie Eilish?
00:04:31This song really resonates with me. It's about, you know, loving someone for all time.
00:04:36And I think of my mum when I sing this song and I'll be thinking of her when I sing
00:04:40it now.
00:04:40She means the most, you know?
00:04:42Yeah.
00:04:42You love your mum. No one loves you like your mum does.
00:04:44That's the first love of your life, man.
00:04:46Just take as much time as you need, Charlie.
00:04:49Thank you. Thank you.
00:04:50Ooh!
00:05:01Yeah!
00:05:01All right.
00:05:02Yeah!
00:05:07Yeah!
00:05:08I don't want you to stay
00:05:10Mm-hmm, yeah!
00:05:13So, till I'm in the grave
00:05:18Till I run away
00:05:20Dead and buried
00:05:23Until I'm in the castle
00:05:26You carry
00:05:28You go, I'm going too
00:05:34Cause it was always you
00:05:39And if I'm turning blue
00:05:41Please don't save me
00:05:44Nothing left to lose
00:05:47Without my baby
00:05:53It's of a feather
00:05:56We should stick together
00:05:58I know
00:05:59Said we never think
00:06:02I wasn't better alone
00:06:04It'll be forever
00:06:06It'll be forever
00:06:08But if it's forever
00:06:11Then it's even better
00:06:13And I don't know
00:06:16What I'm crying for
00:06:19I don't think I could love you more
00:06:24It might not be
00:06:27Baby, I
00:06:31I love you
00:06:32To the day that I die
00:06:37To the day that I die
00:06:42To the light leaves my eyes
00:06:45To the day that I die
00:06:49To the day that I die
00:06:51I die
00:06:51To the day that I die
00:07:15Are you okay?
00:07:18Yeah, I'm okay
00:07:19Charlie, man, jeez
00:07:21That was fantastic
00:07:24Thank you

00:07:27Thank you, that means a lot
00:07:29Thank you for so much
00:07:30So good
00:07:30You know, we who sing songs
00:07:33We are storytellers
00:07:35You have to go to a place
00:07:37When you sing
00:07:38That is a painful place sometimes
00:07:40You know
00:07:41And you sing that
00:07:43With so much emotion
00:07:44And so much real emotion
00:07:46You know, not bull
00:07:48If Billie heard that
00:07:50She would be like
00:07:51Bro
00:07:52Yeah, I agree
00:07:53Take the song
00:07:54Like that
00:07:55Like I mean
00:07:55What a genius spin
00:07:58On such a mega hit
00:08:01You just made that completely Charlie
00:08:05And I can see life
00:08:07And experience
00:08:08And pain
00:08:10And I'm blown away by you
00:08:14You're an artist
00:08:15You're an idol
00:08:17You're someone that
00:08:17We couldn't take our eyes off
00:08:21And that is
00:08:22What we're looking for, right?
00:08:24That's the definition
00:08:24Of what our job is
00:08:26We have to keep you
00:08:27Oh, thank you
00:08:28This is the new standard of excellence
00:08:30Wow
00:08:32I'm going to jump in
00:08:33And give you the first yes
00:08:35You need to
00:08:36I don't think it's going to be an issue
00:08:39I love the timbre of your voice
00:08:41You know, you've got a really cool voice, man
00:08:44That was beautiful
00:08:45So it's a yes for me
00:08:48You are fresh
00:08:49You're real
00:08:50You are an absolute contender for this show
00:08:55It's a huge yes, Charlie

00:11:03I'm 19 years old from Perth, Western Australia
00:11:09When I was younger I always dreamed of being up on the stage
00:11:15Like everyone
00:11:20I was inspired by singer-songwriters
00:11:24All of the artists
00:11:26All of the artists that I really look up to have had to start somewhere
00:11:29And I think that this could be my somewhere
00:11:34Good luck in there
00:11:45Good luck in there
00:11:48Not for you
00:12:02I love you
00:12:02Thanks
00:12:02Screaming jets
00:12:03Mine was Jimi Hendrix

00:12:20What's your name and where are you from?
00:12:22I'm Harriet
00:12:23I'm from Perth, Western Australia
00:12:25Sort of Fremantle area
00:12:27Cool spot
00:12:27I work, yeah, just as a bartender
00:12:29Oh, so that's what you do for a living?
00:12:31Yeah, well, I mean, I still live at home
00:12:32So I'm not, like, paying rent or anything
00:12:33But
00:12:34Well, how old are you?
00:12:35I'm 19
00:12:36Living in Frio
00:12:38Working, bringing in coin
00:12:39And the dream is to be doing this for a living
00:12:43Yeah, absolutely
00:12:44Yeah, and what kind of performer do you want to be?
00:12:47Well, I think the performers that I really idolize are people like Olivia Rodrigo
00:12:54I love, I mean, Taylor Swift's classic one
00:12:56You look like a little mini Taylor
00:12:59Curly hair and guitar
00:13:01But I'll take it
00:13:02Love that
00:13:03So, have you chosen exactly what you want to sing today?
00:13:07Yes, I'm singing Scar by Missy Higgins
00:13:09Great song
00:13:10It's a very good song
00:13:12But, you know, I want you to take your time when you're ready, okay?
00:13:15Thank you so much
00:13:15You're welcome
00:13:17I'm ready
00:13:19She's got this
00:13:20Yeah, you reckon she's gonna be alright?
00:13:22Yeah
00:13:22She's gonna be fine
00:13:30He left a card and a bar of soap
00:13:33And a scrubbing brush next to a note
00:13:35That said, use these down to your bones
00:13:39And before I knew I had shiny skin
00:13:42And it felt easy
00:13:43Being clean like him
00:13:44I thought this one
00:13:45I thought this one
00:13:45Who's better than I do?
00:13:49Triangle
00:13:50Trying to squeeze through a circle
00:13:52He tried to cut me so I'd thin
00:13:55Doesn't that sound familiar?
00:13:58Doesn't that hit you close to home?
00:14:01Doesn't that make you shit?
00:14:02Oh, so cool
00:14:03Never go that far
00:14:04Could you leave me with the sky?
00:14:09Could you leave me with the sky?
00:14:14You've been realized
00:14:16Just in time
00:14:17With my old self
00:14:18It's hard to find
00:14:19You can bathe me
00:14:20In your finest wine
00:14:22But I'll never give you mine
00:14:23Cause I'm a little bit tired
00:14:25Feeling that I'll be the bad fruit
00:14:27Nobody buys
00:14:28Tell me, did you think
00:14:29We'd all dream the same?
00:14:38Doesn't that sound familiar?
00:14:40Doesn't that hit you close to home?
00:14:43Doesn't that make you shiver?
00:14:45The way things could go
00:14:47Doesn't it feel peculiar?
00:14:49Everyone wants a little more
00:14:52So that I do remember
00:14:53Never go that far
00:14:56Could you leave me with the sky?
00:15:04Could you leave me with the sky?
00:15:12Yahoo!
00:15:14Harriet, I prefer your version to the original
00:15:18Oh my God, thank you so much
00:15:20Because, I don't know, it just

00:15:52There's so much to love about that
00:15:54Thank you
00:15:54I mean, it just ticks so many boxes
00:15:57But just the preparation
00:15:58You rehearsed
00:16:00And you didn't overcomplicate it for yourself
00:16:02Because you could focus on your voice
00:16:05I love someone who's ready
00:16:07You seem super, super ready
00:16:10Oh, that means a lot
00:16:11Thank you

00:18:33of the whole competition
00:18:35Would you say it's like the most unusual so far?
00:18:38Beautifully done
00:18:39Oh
00:18:39And later
00:18:40Marsha's epic idol search
00:18:43takes her to the furthest corner of Australia
00:18:46So far in the history of Australian Idol
00:18:49No one from Tasmania has won
00:18:52Nice to meet you
00:18:53Surprising two hard-working Tasmanians
00:18:56No way
00:18:57Wait
00:18:58What?
00:19:00With a sing-off for the ages
00:19:03I can only bring one of you back to Idol HQ
00:19:06Plus
00:19:07You do that once more
00:19:09A bombshell walkout that leaves the judges reeling
00:19:14No
00:19:38You've got a little, um
00:19:40What?
00:19:41Something on my face?
00:19:42Other side
00:19:42No, it's just a crumb
00:19:43Or something
00:19:44No, you're still there
00:19:45Please
00:19:45No, you'll have to
00:19:46Here, give me the tissue
00:19:47Don't lick it
00:19:48No, I'm not going to lick it
00:19:49Come on, mum is here
00:19:50And then wipe me eye
00:19:53Oh, there we go
00:19:53Oh
00:19:54Looks like a bit of chip
00:19:55It's gone
00:19:55OK, it was
00:19:58As the judges finish their snacks
00:20:00Day two of Idol auditions is in full swing
00:20:03And the foyer is filling up with nervous singers
00:20:06At any moment, their name could be called
00:20:08And then it's on
00:20:10Yeah, they only get one chance to impress the judges
00:20:13It's a lot of pressure
00:20:16And next up to face the music is Blake
00:20:20I'm Blake, I'm 26 and I'm from regional Victoria
00:20:22I am a natural performer
00:20:25When I was a kid
00:20:26Mum told me that I used to strut around the house
00:20:28Doing that
00:20:29I'm too sexy for my shirt
00:20:31And would like, you know
00:20:31Take my clothes off and stuff
00:20:33So like, I've always been a performer
00:20:35Look at you, sitting there like a rock star already
00:20:37What's your style?
00:20:39What do you bring into the Idol audition room?
00:20:41I am the most vocally diverse artist Idol's ever seen
00:20:46If you were to like compare your style to anyone out there
00:20:51Elevator
00:20:51An elevator
00:20:53Yeah, the elevator noise
00:20:55It can go highs to lows
00:20:56Whatever the range is, it's that and beyond
00:20:59The goal, make Kyle Sandilands cry
00:21:02But like, in happiness
00:21:03I want him to feel every emotion coming from my voice
00:21:10Hello
00:21:11You look like a cool dude
00:21:13How's it going?
00:21:15Who do we have here?
00:21:16Kyle, we meet again
00:21:17How are you?
00:21:18Good
00:21:18Where have we met before?
00:21:20We haven't, I just thought it sounded cool
00:21:21Oh, I like that
00:21:22I was going to say, normally like this
00:21:24I'd remember someone's face
00:21:25You'll remember this one
00:21:27Confidence, I love
00:21:28I love, that's key
00:21:29Yeah
00:21:29What is your name and where are you from?
00:21:31I'm Blake, I'm 26
00:21:32I'm from Gippsland, Victoria
00:21:33Ah
00:21:35Awesome, so what are you going to sing today?
00:21:37I'm going to sing Akon's Lonely
00:21:38Because I am the most vocally diverse artist you've ever had on Australian Idol
00:21:42Is that right?
00:21:43I am
00:21:44And I am the next Australian Idol
00:21:46I'd like that no one else has come in and sent this
00:21:48I like that, I like that
00:21:49Okay, I'm excited
00:21:51Let's see what you've got
00:21:53Looking forward to it
00:21:54Whenever you're ready, man
00:21:55Whenever you're ready
00:22:01Lonely
00:22:03I am so lonely
00:22:05I have nobody
00:22:08For my own
00:22:11I am so lonely
00:22:14I am so lonely
00:22:16I have nobody
00:22:19For my own
00:22:22I am so lonely
00:22:35Where's the verse?
00:22:36I am so lonely
00:22:38I have nobody
00:22:41For my own
00:22:43I am so lonely
00:22:45You do that once more
00:22:47Sorry?
00:22:48You do that once more
00:22:49You've got to hit a verse soon
00:22:51Hit a verse
00:22:52I didn't learn the verse
00:22:53I figured you would want more
00:22:55And in order to get more
00:22:57You would have to put me through to the next round
00:22:59Oh, it ain't that kind of part
00:23:01This guy's got a plan
00:23:03You've got a very high voice
00:23:05I mean, but I'd like to hear what happens in the interim of all that voice
00:23:09I can go low
00:23:11I want to hear a bit of low
00:23:12Do you want to hear a bit of low?
00:23:13Yeah, sure
00:23:15Lonely
00:23:15Oh, no, no, no
00:23:16Different song
00:23:16Different song
00:23:19Please
00:23:20Yeah
00:23:26Blake's got to leave now
00:23:27Are you coming up to sing a duet?
00:23:29No, I'm going to get a coffee
00:23:32What was that?
00:23:34Really?
00:23:35You can't do this to me
00:23:37It's a no from me
00:23:38But thank you
00:23:38I'm sorry, Blake
00:23:39No from me
00:23:39Thank you, Blake
00:23:42If you're going to crawl out
00:23:43Crawl out towards 11 o'clock
00:23:45There you go
00:23:50The talent this year
00:23:52It's been fascinating
00:23:53A lot of rock
00:23:54And I cannot be more excited
00:24:07Hey guys
00:24:10Hello
00:24:10Oh
00:24:11Hello
00:24:11Hi
00:24:11I love whatever's going on here
00:24:14That's good
00:24:15Nice to meet you
00:24:16What's your name?
00:24:17My name's Sarah
00:24:17And what are you going to sing for us today?
00:24:19Today, our skater boy Avril Lavigne
00:24:21Good
00:24:21I haven't heard that for a thousand years
00:24:23Good song
00:24:24But what a song
00:24:25He was a skater boy
00:24:27She said, see you later, boy
00:24:28He wasn't good enough for her
00:24:31She had a pretty face
00:24:33But her head was up in space
00:24:35She needed to come back down to earth
00:24:40You know, I'm going to be honest
00:24:42At this point in time and say no
00:24:43Yep
00:24:43Is this what you really, really want to do?
00:24:46Yeah, yeah, definitely
00:24:47Okay, so I would suggest
00:24:48Have some lessons
00:24:49No matter where you're from
00:24:50Or what genre you sing
00:24:52It's still got to be idol worthy
00:24:54Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor?
00:24:58Yeah
00:24:59And I think that I can take any more
00:25:03Clowns to the left of me
00:25:05Jokers to the right
00:25:07Here I am stuck in the middle with you
00:25:11I'm stuck in the middle with you
00:25:14Horrible
00:25:16Joyful song
00:25:17Yes
00:25:18Terrible execution
00:25:20Piss poor performance
00:25:22No worries
00:25:23Thank you very much, Jimmy
00:25:24Thank you

00:25:44Where are you from, buddy?
00:25:45Sydney
00:25:46Sydney
00:25:46Okay, and you sing, you obviously, you play
00:25:49I have my own band, we're still on the rise
00:25:52But this is what I want to do
00:25:54What's the band?
00:25:55What's the genre?
00:25:56Pop punk
00:25:57Pop punk?
00:25:58Pop punk
00:26:00Is that what you are?
00:26:01My kind of guy
00:26:01Are you pop punk?
00:26:02I mean, that's where my inspiration comes from
00:26:05Wow
00:26:06Awesome, man
00:26:07What's the band called?
00:26:08Where She Was
00:26:09Where She Was
00:26:10Yeah
00:26:10I like that
00:26:11Thank you
00:26:12Cool
00:26:12And
00:26:12Where was she?
00:26:14I don't know
00:26:15She was with Who Dis
00:26:16Yeah
00:26:18How often do you guys play?
00:26:19We rehearse every week
00:26:20And we're just trying to get gigs at the moment
00:26:22What are you going to sing?
00:26:23I'm going to sing a Blink-182 song
00:26:25Yes
00:26:26I'm going to sing all the small things
00:26:27Oh my God
00:26:28That's a beauty, that song
00:26:30This is great
00:26:30Okay, cool
00:26:31Okay, Achille
00:26:32When you're ready, my friend
00:26:33Let's see what you got
00:26:36Achille
00:26:36Cool name
00:26:49All the small things
00:26:52True care, truth brings
00:26:55I'll take one lift
00:26:58You'll ride the best trip
00:27:02Always, I know
00:27:05You'll be at my show
00:27:08Watching, waiting
00:27:13Commiserating
00:27:22He's got a good voice
00:27:24He does have a good voice
00:27:26He's definitely got stage presence
00:27:27Yeah
00:27:28High energy
00:27:28I come home
00:27:31Work sucks
00:27:32I know
00:27:33She left me roses by the stairs
00:27:37Surprises let me know she cares
00:27:40Say it ain't so
00:27:42I will not go
00:27:44Turn the lights off
00:27:45Carry me home
00:27:47And keep your head still
00:27:48I'll be your thrill
00:27:50The night will go on
00:27:52The night will go on
00:27:53My little ring mail
00:27:58Yeah
00:27:59Yeah
00:28:00Killing
00:28:01Killing it
00:28:03Yes
00:28:03Bro, cool as
00:28:05Dude
00:28:06How do you feel?
00:28:08Feel good
00:28:09You know, you got a real natural stance
00:28:12I could see you with the band
00:28:16And you've actually got a really nice tone
00:28:18Thank you
00:28:19It's not fallen into that really nasally pop punk sound
00:28:23And it's, I don't know, I was really into that
00:28:26I'm worried about what you guys think
00:28:28What do you reckon
00:28:29What do you reckon, Carl?
00:28:31I, I thought it was very natural
00:28:34It looked like this wasn't you pretending to be a rock star
00:28:37I felt like it's a genuine slither that runs through your body
00:28:42I was assuming it would be more gravelly
00:28:44But it was actually a sweeter version
00:28:48And I think it really worked
00:28:50Look, I, I don't know if it put you off
00:28:52But I was filming a little bit of your audition
00:28:55I know, you were filming it for him
00:28:56I know all the guys from Blink
00:28:58Yeah, I've seen, you've wrote songs with them
00:29:00Yep, wrote songs with all of them
00:29:01And they're good friends of mine
00:29:02So, I'm gonna send that to the guys
00:29:05And I'm also gonna say yes
00:29:09You need two yeses to get through
00:29:10Would you like to know what I think?
00:29:16I would prefer to have just heard you stand there and sing
00:29:19Because that's great, you know
00:29:21It's, it's a smoke effect where, you know
00:29:23You can hide behind it
00:29:27Yeah
00:29:27But your voice is fine
00:29:29You need to know that, you know
00:29:30And I can actually see you in a band
00:29:33I think it's a yes from me too
00:29:35Oh, that's two yeses
00:29:37Well, I go judge on this
00:29:38Sound, style, is this person idle potential?
00:29:43Yes, yes, yes
00:29:44So, it's a yes from me
00:29:46Thank you guys so much
00:29:47Three yeses
00:29:48You're welcome
00:29:48You come back to Savo
00:29:50We hand out the golden tickets
00:29:52Will you get one?
00:29:52We don't know
00:29:53But good enough to have the option
00:29:56Thanks Achille, excellent work, man
00:29:57Achille, what a rock star name
00:29:59I know
00:29:59Thank you Amy, Marsha and Kyle
00:30:01You're welcome, sir
00:30:02Nice to meet you
00:30:03No worries man, I'll see you later on
00:30:04Thank you, see you guys later
00:30:05Thanks bro
00:30:05Thank you
00:30:08Well here it comes
00:30:14What happened?
00:30:15I got, I got yeses
00:30:17Amazing, how many yeses?
00:30:18All of them
00:30:22Still to come
00:30:23So you're a star in Japan
00:30:25I guess
00:30:26A J-pop star enters the idle stage
00:30:29Milkshake, milkshake, go down
00:30:31And later
00:30:33Marsha embarks on her Tasmanian secret mission
00:30:37Marsha shows up out of nowhere
00:30:39It's just made my year
00:30:40Looking to secure a phenomenal voice
00:30:44That can turn the competition on its head
00:30:47Your performance
00:30:48I'll remember for a long time
00:30:50But next
00:30:51Could this shy forklift operator
00:30:54I was never like born a confident human
00:30:56Have a voice that blows the judges away
00:31:00Would you say it's like the most unusual voice so far?
00:31:09I'm Jacinta, I'm 25 years old
00:31:12And I'm from Bacchus Marsh in Victoria
00:31:13And I'm just dreaming
00:31:23Dreaming
00:31:23I've been about myself
00:31:28Oh, sorry, I find these questions really hard
00:31:31What do you want to know though?
00:31:35I'm a full-time forklift operator
00:31:37My dream is to become an international artist
00:31:41Recording and releasing music
00:31:43Touring the world
00:31:44Because this is all I've wanted to do
00:31:46My entire life
00:31:48This is your time
00:31:50Take it all in
00:31:51Don't put too much pressure on yourself
00:31:53Just breathe
00:31:56I was never like born a confident human
00:31:58It's something that I'm fighting
00:31:59Constantly questioning whether I'm good enough
00:32:02And whether I'm cut out for this
00:32:05I feel as though I've had more no's than yeses
00:32:07Especially, you know, in singing
00:32:09But they've led me in the right direction
00:32:11They've led me to here
00:32:12Let's do a little group hug
00:32:13Love you, darling
00:32:15Good luck
00:32:16Good luck, darling, you've got this
00:32:17Hey there, ready for you?
00:32:18Good luck
00:32:19Thank you
00:32:19Bye
00:32:21Next time
00:32:22I know deep down and in my bones
00:32:25I can be the next Australian Idol
00:32:26Because I've got what it takes
00:32:28I've got something different
00:32:29I've got something unique
00:32:30And I'm ready for the world to see it
00:32:34Hello
00:32:36Howdy, howdy
00:32:37Hello
00:32:38Who do we have here?
00:32:40I'm Jacinta
00:32:40I'm 25 years old
00:32:42And I'm from Bacchus Marsh in Victoria
00:32:44Oh, cool
00:32:44Awesome
00:32:45What do you do there?
00:32:47I'm a forklift operator
00:32:48Really?
00:32:49Oh, yeah
00:32:50Cool, man
00:32:51That's awesome
00:32:51I did that for two weeks
00:32:53Until I ploughed the forks
00:32:54Into the side of the refrigerator
00:32:55Oh
00:32:56And then I was given the marching orders
00:32:59Oh, my gosh
00:33:00And are you doing the
00:33:02Yeah, the pool, yep
00:33:03Yeah, you've got the one arm
00:33:05Yeah
00:33:05But you want to be an artist
00:33:07I want to be an artist
00:33:09That's why I'm here, yes
00:33:10Okay
00:33:11What are you going to perform?
00:33:12So I'm singing Somebody That I Used to Know
00:33:15By Got Here
00:33:15Oh, that's a beautiful song
00:33:17Yes
00:33:18Great song
00:33:18Shake off any nerves that you might have
00:33:22This is your time to prove your artistry to us
00:33:26Yep
00:33:26All right, Jacinta
00:33:27In your own time
00:33:29Good luck
00:33:29Thank you
00:33:30Okay
00:33:44Now and then I think of when we were together
00:33:52Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
00:34:01I told myself that you're right for me
00:34:05But felt so lonely in your company
00:34:09But that was lovely to make
00:34:12I still remember
00:34:18But you didn't have to cut me off
00:34:21But you didn't have to cut me off
00:34:22Make it like it never happened in that way
00:34:26But nothing
00:34:27I don't even need your love
00:34:30But you treat me like a stranger
00:34:32And I'm trying to feel smooth
00:34:35And I don't want to live that way
00:34:39And I don't want to live that way
00:34:40And I don't want to live that way
00:34:40And you're reading into every word you say
00:34:43And I don't want to catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know
00:34:56Yeah, oh, feel that. Goosebumps.
00:35:11She's so good. You don't need to cry.
00:35:14Oh, no, but it's happy tears.
00:35:15She's amazing.
00:35:24Now you're just somebody that I used to know.
00:35:38How did that feel?
00:35:41Um, very surreal and crazy, but good, good.
00:35:45Wow.
00:35:47I would agree.
00:35:49It was good.
00:35:50Different sort of tones, different sort of delivery to what I'm used to, um, but fabulous.
00:35:59You've got a lilting voice, you know, your voice just sort of floats in really beautifully
00:36:04and the air in your voice is lovely too, Jacinta.
00:36:08It's like just leaves floating around in the wind.
00:36:10It's quite crazy.
00:36:11It's a cool voice. It's really cool.
00:36:13It's really authentic and different original.
00:36:16Yeah, okay, yeah.
00:36:17Um, which is exciting.
00:36:18How open are you to, uh, zhuzhing?
00:36:22Oh, yeah, I'm open. Yeah, I'm open to zhuzhing.
00:36:25Okay, great.
00:36:25Not that there's anything wrong with the way you look, but with this show you get the stylist,
00:36:31the makeup artist, the hair.
00:36:33We give you the whole package.
00:36:35Yeah.
00:36:35And I wasn't sure whether you would embrace that or whether you'd be like,
00:36:39no, no, I'm, I'm a dowdy forklift driver.
00:36:42Because we don't know you, right?
00:36:43You just are you, which is the trick.
00:36:46Not to be anybody else but yourself, Jacinta.
00:36:50Yeah.
00:36:50You know, and that was very beautiful.
00:36:52I'm going to cut to the chase.
00:36:53It's a yes from me.
00:36:55Thank you so much, Rasha.
00:36:57I'm going to give you a yes because I think you're fascinating.
00:37:01Thank you, Kyle.
00:37:01And excellent.
00:37:02Yes, it's a, it's a really unique voice.
00:37:05I'm going to have to say yes.
00:37:07Thank you, Amy.
00:37:08Yep.
00:37:08Three yeses, Jacinta.
00:37:10Next time we see you will be the Savo.
00:37:12Okay.
00:37:12Where we hand out the golden ticket.
00:37:14You either get one and move on or it's the end of the journey.
00:37:18So, good luck.
00:37:19Thank you so much.
00:37:21Thank you, Jacinta.
00:37:22Well done.
00:37:22I really appreciate you coming.
00:37:23Thank you so much for having me.
00:37:24It was great.
00:37:24It was great to watch.
00:37:25It was lovely to meet all of you.
00:37:27You too.
00:37:27Good luck.
00:37:27Thank you so much.
00:37:30I think they're wasting away as a forklift driver there.
00:37:33Yeah.
00:37:33Isn't that talent?
00:37:34I know.
00:37:35Pretty cool.
00:37:35Crazy.
00:37:37Oh, darling, dry your eyes.
00:37:39It'll be alright.
00:37:41Just look to the sky.
00:37:42I got three yeses.
00:37:44Yeah!
00:37:46Oh, my God.
00:37:48Thank you, darling.
00:37:49Congratulations.
00:37:50So awesome.
00:37:52Congratulations.
00:37:52We're going to start crying.
00:37:54Crazy.
00:37:55Like, I could feel my legs quivering.
00:37:56I was really channeling all those hard times and no's, and I tried to put all that emotion
00:38:01into the song I was singing.
00:38:03Three yeses.
00:38:04Three yeses, yeah.
00:38:05How good is that?
00:38:06Congratulations.
00:38:06Thank you so much.
00:38:07Go celebrate, guys.
00:38:08Nice to meet you.
00:38:10Still to come.
00:38:11Oh, bro.
00:38:12Hello.
00:38:13Hi.
00:38:13Look at you.
00:38:14Come a-rippling in the door like a crab.
00:38:16Amy is lost for words.
00:38:19So show me what you're...
00:38:20Sorry, how about to say show me what you're working with?
00:38:22I mean your guitar.
00:38:27And a J-pop superstar arrives at Idol HQ.
00:38:32We went to Korea.
00:38:33We did Rolling Stone live in Japan.
00:38:36Looking to conquer the competition.
00:38:39I'm expecting big things.
00:38:42Then later, a final judgment that no one saw coming.
00:38:47I think you stripped the emotion out.
00:39:02It's after lunch on day two of auditions, and our judges are preparing for the afternoon
00:39:08session.
00:39:10What's happened?
00:39:10Is an extension kambang?
00:39:12No way.
00:39:12Do you have extensions?
00:39:13No, it's all real.
00:39:14I love that.
00:39:15Me too.
00:39:16Real.
00:39:16Yeah, until you grab it by the back of the hair and half her hair falls out.
00:39:22You'll never see it's over if I'm breathing.
00:39:26With the waiting room filling up, Charlie, Harriet, Achille and Jacinta are now all in
00:39:32the running for a priceless golden ticket.
00:39:35Ah, it's so close.
00:39:36It's just, it's right there.
00:39:38So close, yeah, so far.
00:39:40Literally.
00:39:42Will our next singer have what it takes to join them?
00:39:46I'm stoked to have you guys all here.
00:39:47And you've got a great voice.
00:39:49I remember when you used to have that nickname, Mr. Husk.
00:39:54Thanks for reminding me, Dad.
00:39:57I'm Daniel.
00:39:58I'm 32 and I'm from Sydney.
00:40:00My dad is the most supportive person of my music and the only compliment that ever meant anything
00:40:08to me was when he would say, you've just got such a great voice.
00:40:15For some reason, I just know he means it.
00:40:18Welcome to Australian Idol.
00:40:19Why have you decided today's the day?
00:40:21We've been pushing him.
00:40:23Yeah.
00:40:23Dad's been giving you the nudge, has he?
00:40:25Dad has been...
00:40:25Plenty of nudges.
00:40:27And why is that, Dad?
00:40:28Because he's really got an awesome voice.
00:40:31The songs that he writes, they're just awesome.
00:40:33They're too good to stay hidden.
00:40:35My dad was a musician who shared this same dream as me when he was my age.
00:40:41And I think it would be really cool to live that for both of us.
00:40:47Hey.
00:40:48Oh, bro.
00:40:49Hello.
00:40:49Hi.
00:40:49Look at you.
00:40:50Come rippling in the door like a crab.
00:40:52How are you, buddy?
00:40:53What's your name?
00:40:54My name's Daniel.
00:40:55Daniel, nice to meet you.
00:40:56Kyle, Marsha, Amy.
00:40:57Nice to meet you, Daniel.
00:40:58Look at the body, ladies.
00:41:00Wow.
00:41:01How old are you, Daniel?
00:41:02I am 32 years old.
00:41:03Are you married?
00:41:04I am not married.
00:41:05I am single.
00:41:06I'm cutting to the chase.
00:41:07I mean, you know, like, this is national television.
00:41:10Everybody's going to see you.
00:41:11Um, so show me what you're, sorry, how about I say show me what you're working with?
00:41:15I mean your guitar.
00:41:17How cool are those fenders, by the way?
00:41:19They're so good.
00:41:20I love them.
00:41:21I love it.
00:41:21So what are you going to sing?
00:41:23I am singing Without You by David Guetta and Usher.
00:41:27Oh, cool.
00:41:28All right.
00:41:28I can't.
00:41:29Yes.
00:41:30Let's bump a mic in for Daniel, please.
00:41:34I can't.
00:41:35Oh.
00:41:36Yes from me.
00:41:38That's it.
00:41:39That's all I need.
00:41:40That's actually my version.
00:41:43Short and sharp.
00:41:45Daniel, take your time whenever you're ready.
00:41:58I can't win.
00:42:01I can't rain.
00:42:04I will never win this game without you.
00:42:13Without you.
00:42:18I won't run.
00:42:21I won't fly.
00:42:24I will never make it by without you.
00:42:37Without you.
00:42:40Without you.
00:42:43Without you.
00:42:44Without you.
00:42:46Without you.
00:42:46I won't climb.
00:42:48I won't climb.
00:42:51I lost my heart.
00:42:52I lost my mind without you
00:43:00Without you
00:43:01I think I'm on that as than he is.
00:43:04I am too, that's all right.
00:43:07Because I'm so blind
00:43:09I lost my heart
00:43:12I lost my mind without you
00:43:19Without you
00:43:24Without you
00:43:32You know what I really liked
00:43:34is when you screwed up the chord
00:43:37I saw a bit of myself
00:43:38because I do that all the time
00:43:39and I always make sure I finish even stronger.
00:43:42You ended so strong after that.
00:43:45Didn't make a fuss of it.
00:43:46Just got back on track.
00:43:48Found where you were on the fretboard.
00:43:49I really enjoyed that, Daniel.
00:43:52What do you reckon, Kyle?
00:43:53I wasn't expecting my favourite party, Ibiza-style song
00:43:59to also be now a song I could hear played at my funeral.
00:44:03But because the emotion was different.
00:44:05Same verse, same words, different vibe.
00:44:09Beautifully done.
00:44:10Thank you so much.
00:44:11I'm going to start off with a yes.
00:44:13Wow.
00:44:14I have a question, if you don't mind.
00:44:16Did you sing that for somebody?
00:44:18I was just thinking a lot about my dad
00:44:22and how we shared this dream.
00:44:27Oh, that's cool.
00:44:28He wanted to be a singer.
00:44:29Oh, that's beautiful.
00:44:30And, yeah.
00:44:32You know, Daniel, you come off so tough
00:44:35but so smooth and so kind,
00:44:38which is a lovely...
00:44:40Very similar to...
00:44:43It's uncanny, the resemblance, right?
00:44:46That's a beautiful attribute on your part.
00:44:50I've given you a yes.
00:44:51You need two to get through.
00:44:52It's a yes for me.
00:44:53Oh, there's your second.
00:44:54It's hard to get a word in sometimes.
00:44:56You notice, right?
00:44:57I would like to say yes.
00:44:59Amazing.
00:44:59So you've got three yeses.
00:45:01That's crazy.
00:45:01Well done, Daniel.
00:45:02Fabulous.
00:45:03Next time we see you,
00:45:04we'll be handing out golden tickets.
00:45:06You either get one or you don't.
00:45:07And then the idol journey either starts or finishes.
00:45:09Okay.
00:45:09So good luck.
00:45:10Well done, man.
00:45:10Cool.
00:45:11Thanks, Daniel.
00:45:12Nice to meet you, man.
00:45:12Yeah, no worries.
00:45:13Well done.
00:45:14See you.
00:45:17Oh, it was yes.
00:45:24Give me some.
00:45:26Great job.
00:45:27He's amazing.
00:45:28See you.
00:45:28Bye.
00:45:29I'm so proud of you.
00:45:40What judge are you most excited to sing for?
00:45:42Ooh.
00:45:44Kyle.
00:45:45I wish I could go in there and just,
00:45:47I'd love to see Marsha.
00:45:48It's kind of like meeting Diana Ross.
00:45:51Who's that?
00:45:52Is that Princess Diana?
00:45:54No, Diana Ross.
00:45:56Hey, hey, I'm no go.
00:45:58Why ima ichi?
00:46:00I'm Hannah.
00:46:01I'm 18.
00:46:01I'm from Japan.
00:46:03I would describe myself as funny, bubbly, outgoing.
00:46:08Hey, hey, hey, atashi, niwa rock the terror.
00:46:11My dad's from Australia.
00:46:13My mom and dad moved to Japan.
00:46:14I was born and raised in Japan my whole life.
00:46:17This is not my first time being in this kind of situation.
00:46:21When I was 14, I was chosen to be the member of the J-pop girl group.
00:46:26The group was called Moonchild.
00:46:33We went to Korea to do this big stage.
00:46:37We did Rolling Stone live in Japan, which was pretty big.
00:46:40Having fans was really nice.
00:46:46I really would love to become a solo artist,
00:46:48and I think this is the perfect opportunity to become one.
00:46:52So you're a star in Japan.
00:46:54I guess.
00:46:55Yeah?
00:46:55But you're ready to go out on your own.
00:46:56Yeah.
00:46:57This is your solo artist moment.
00:46:59Yeah.
00:46:59So go on there and show us you are a pop star.
00:47:01Thank you, I will.
00:47:02All right.
00:47:03Next, please.
00:47:09Hello.
00:47:10Oh, hi there.
00:47:11Hey.
00:47:12Look at you, you bright, colourful, lovely girl.
00:47:16What's your name?
00:47:17Hannah.
00:47:18What brings you here, Hannah?
00:47:19I used to be in a band in Japan,
00:47:21and now that's finished,
00:47:24I wanted to pursue my solo career.
00:47:26So hang on.
00:47:27When was this band?
00:47:28Is it J-pop?
00:47:30Yeah.
00:47:30Okay.
00:47:31So that's huge.
00:47:33Yeah.
00:47:33K-pop, J-pop.
00:47:34Everyone loves that.
00:47:35Yes, we do.
00:47:36So did the band get to a certain level?
00:47:39We did a lot of things.
00:47:41I was in big stages.
00:47:43Like, how big were the stages?
00:47:45Huge, like, stadiums and stuff,
00:47:48and it was amazing.
00:47:49Wow.
00:47:49Okay, so you've had a good taste.
00:47:53Yeah.
00:47:53And now you're ready to start your solo career.
00:47:56Yeah.
00:47:56I want to see if I'm good on my own.
00:47:59Okay.
00:47:59All right.
00:48:00Yeah.
00:48:01What are you going to sing?
00:48:02Domino by Jessie J.
00:48:04Okay.
00:48:04Yeah.
00:48:05Good choice.
00:48:06Well, Hannah, in your own time.
00:48:09I'm expecting big things since you've already...
00:48:11Oh.
00:48:12You've already delved into this area.
00:48:14I'll try to...
00:48:15Yeah.
00:48:16Do your best.
00:48:17Good luck, Hannah.
00:48:20Good luck, Hannah.
00:48:36Cool hair.
00:48:37Cool hair.
00:48:37Yeah.
00:48:38Really cool hair.
00:48:40She's nailing that.
00:48:41I think I'm about to explode.
00:48:46I can taste the tension like a cloud is smoking the air.
00:48:50Now I'm breathing like I'm running.
00:48:52Cause you're taking me there.
00:48:54Don't you know?
00:48:56You spin me out of control.
00:49:00Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
00:49:02We can't do this all night.
00:49:05Damn, this love is skin tight.
00:49:07Baby, come on.
00:49:10Boom it like a bass drum.
00:49:12Sparking up a rhythm.
00:49:14Baby, come on.
00:49:17Fuck my world into the sunlight.
00:49:20Make this dream, don't stop in the snow.
00:49:25Dirty dancing in the moonlight.
00:49:28Take me down like I'm a domino.
00:49:32Every second is a highlight.
00:49:36When we touch, don't ever let me go.
00:49:40Dirty dancing in the moonlight.
00:49:44Take me down like I'm a domino.
00:49:50Thank you so much.
00:49:52Okay, how did you think that went?
00:49:55Good.
00:49:56What did you think, ladies?
00:49:58Tough song.
00:49:59That's a tough song.
00:50:00Yeah.
00:50:01You know, and I heard you when you fell off your note a couple times.
00:50:05Yeah.
00:50:06It's an interesting thing because you were with a girl band
00:50:08and with other people on stage, including me with musicians,
00:50:12there's a great security that you get being and working with other people.
00:50:16And then there you stand on your own trying to be, you know, a solo performer.
00:50:22It ain't easy.
00:50:24Do you know what I mean?
00:50:24What do you reckon, Ames?
00:50:25It's weird.
00:50:26It was like, um...
00:50:28Lackluster.
00:50:29Disconnected.
00:50:30It was very paid by numbers.
00:50:31Yeah, it was very like...
00:50:31Very disconnected.
00:50:33Do you feel like you've got more energy in the tank?
00:50:35I feel like I was, like, really obsessed with hitting the notes
00:50:39and I wasn't really in it, but...
00:50:41Yeah.
00:50:41I could do better.
00:50:42What we noticed, that's what we felt.
00:50:44What do you guys want to do?
00:50:46I'm willing to think that since you've already done this before,
00:50:50you can take that criticism and make the required changes,
00:50:55so I'm going to give you a yes.
00:50:57Thank you so much.
00:50:59You've got one, you need two.
00:51:01I think it's an energy thing on your part.
00:51:03The energy you would have gotten from the other girls
00:51:05would have just made you puff.
00:51:07Do you know what I mean?
00:51:07Like, and I get that when I work with a band
00:51:10and the members of my band,
00:51:12they give me energy to push me forward.
00:51:14Do you have more energy to give, do you think?
00:51:16Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
00:51:18Okay?
00:51:18Yeah.
00:51:19I buy it.
00:51:20And it's a yes for me, huh?
00:51:22You only need two yeses.
00:51:23Thank you so much.
00:51:24Make the changes.
00:51:25We want to see stars on that stage.
00:51:28Stronger, stronger.
00:51:28We want to get to know you, you know?
00:51:30We just want to see who you are.
00:51:32Yes.
00:51:32All right.
00:51:33Okay, well, we'll see you when we hand our golden tickets.
00:51:36Hopefully, your mission is to get one of those
00:51:38to get through to the next round.
00:51:41Thank you so much.
00:51:41Nice to meet you.
00:51:42Well done.
00:51:42Nice to meet you.
00:51:43Thank you, Hannah.
00:51:43Thank you so much.
00:51:44Well done.
00:51:44Good luck for the Savo.
00:51:45Thank you so much.
00:51:49That was nice.
00:51:50A tough one, hey?
00:51:50Yeah, it was tough,
00:51:51but to have that genre represented in Australian Idol,
00:51:54I'm all the way live with that.
00:51:56Still to come.
00:51:57In the history of Australian Idol,
00:52:00no one from Tasmania has won,
00:52:03and I think it's high time.
00:52:05Marsha's search gets messy.
00:52:07If you're not careful, you can wear the crap.
00:52:10Does that explain it?
00:52:12Mining for her wildcard diamond.
00:52:15The bottom line is,
00:52:16I'm going to audition you both,
00:52:17but I can only bring one of you back to Idol HQ.
00:52:20And later,
00:52:23pop punk rocker Achille.
00:52:24Going into judgment, I'm terrified.
00:52:27Soul singer Charlie.
00:52:29The anticipation's killing me.
00:52:31Together with the day's standout performers,
00:52:34I have so much more to show and give.
00:52:37All vie for a coveted golden ticket.
00:52:47This year...
00:52:48Wish me luck!
00:52:49The judges are going from the sea
00:52:51to the land.
00:52:53We're looking for the next Australian Idol.
00:52:56No pressure.
00:52:57To find wildcard contestants.
00:52:59And for Marsha,
00:53:01she is flying to a place we've never been to.
00:53:04Tasmania is wild,
00:53:07beautiful,
00:53:07and so far in the history of Australian Idol,
00:53:11no one from Tasmania has won.
00:53:15And I think it's high time.
00:53:17Whoa!
00:53:18Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:53:20The working class.
00:53:22I think it's absolutely beautiful.
00:53:25So green and lush.
00:53:27So now I'm on my way to meet two singers
00:53:30here in Devonport.
00:53:32I love the Idol road trips
00:53:34because I just really like surprising people
00:53:36when they don't expect me to turn up
00:53:38in their office or their place of work.
00:53:40I think that's fun.
00:53:41Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:53:46Can I help you?
00:53:47Yes, please.
00:53:48I'm looking for Mason.
00:53:50Mason?
00:53:50Yeah.
00:53:51You're in luck.
00:53:52Mason's in the truck here.
00:53:56Hey, Mason!
00:53:58Hi!
00:53:59Hi!
00:54:00How are you?
00:54:01Hey, good.
00:54:02How are you?
00:54:02Come down, come down!
00:54:03Come down!
00:54:05What?
00:54:11Hi.
00:54:12Hi.
00:54:12I'm going to meet you, Masha.
00:54:13Nice to meet you.
00:54:14How are you?
00:54:14I'm great.
00:54:15I'm great.
00:54:16Hi.
00:54:17Hi.
00:54:17How are you?
00:54:18This is Damien.
00:54:18Hey, Damien.
00:54:19Well, Damien told us that you're a bit of a singer.
00:54:21Yeah.
00:54:22Is that true?
00:54:23Yeah.
00:54:23Yeah.
00:54:23I've been doing it for a little while.
00:54:24Hi.
00:54:25How are you?
00:54:25Nice to meet you.
00:54:26I'm Will.
00:54:26I had no idea you were going to be here.
00:54:28Well, this is a good thing.
00:54:29That's insane.
00:54:29So you work here?
00:54:30Yeah, I've worked here for just about 18 months now.
00:54:33Singing means a lot to you, does it?
00:54:35It means the world.
00:54:36Yeah.
00:54:37I honestly wouldn't be here as well without, like, mum and dad pushing me to keep doing music.
00:54:42So I'm here for a reason.
00:54:45I'm here to audition you for Australian Idol.
00:54:48No way.
00:54:49Way.
00:54:50What?
00:54:51Way.
00:54:53That's insane.
00:54:56Holy cow.
00:54:57I had no idea.
00:54:58I know.
00:54:58This is terrific.
00:54:59But the thing is, would you be willing to audition today?
00:55:04Yeah.
00:55:05Yeah.
00:55:05I will definitely be auditioning for you today.
00:55:07You're cool with that?
00:55:08Yeah, 100%.
00:55:08You're going red, man.
00:55:09Yeah, I know.
00:55:10I just, oh, I'm just in total shock right now.
00:55:12That's really nice.
00:55:13I just had no idea that that was going to be happening today.
00:55:17Marsha shows up out of nowhere.
00:55:19Just made my year.
00:55:22I just feel so grateful, you know?
00:55:24Like, to even have the chance to sing for her is just awesome.
00:55:29No matter what the result, I just, that, I'm taking that away.
00:55:33You got this.
00:55:35Oh, holy cow.
00:55:43Now I'm heading to a farm to see what else Tasmania has to offer.
00:55:50I'm Craig.
00:55:51I live in Launceston and I work on a dairy farm.
00:55:53If you're not careful, you can, you can wear, wear, wear the crap.
00:55:59Does that explain it?
00:56:00I'm pretty, pretty certain.
00:56:01It's, for the most part, it's a pretty good job.
00:56:04Come here, mate.
00:56:05Music is, it's peaceful to me.
00:56:08It's relaxing.
00:56:09It's, you know, it's a way of life.
00:56:11Yeah, I sing to the cows.
00:56:16Look at you.
00:56:18Aren't you lucky?
00:56:20So, your friends have dubbed you in.
00:56:22How important is singing to you?
00:56:25I've been doing it since I was 13.
00:56:28Really?
00:56:28Yeah.
00:56:29The reason I'm here is to audition today.
00:56:34Okay.
00:56:34All right?
00:56:35Yep.
00:56:35You cool with that?
00:56:36I'm cool.
00:56:37So, I'll see you at the most incredible location you can imagine.
00:56:42Okay.
00:56:43And you can sing for me there.
00:56:44Sounds good.
00:56:49Welcome to Devonport's sensational, stunning Maricopa Caves.
00:56:56Pretty huge opportunity for me, not just me, but for my family as well.
00:57:00If I could do this, it would change our lives.
00:57:04I just want to get in there.
00:57:05I just want to perform.
00:57:07I just want to show not only the judges, but show Australia what I can do.
00:57:13So, these caves started forming 30 to 40 million years ago.
00:57:20The acoustics and the sounds that your voices will make in this cave will be utterly amazing.
00:57:28The bottom line is, I'm going to audition you both, but I can only bring one of you back
00:57:32to Idol HQ, where you're going to compete for a golden ticket.
00:57:38Are you ready?
00:57:40Craig?
00:57:41Great.
00:57:41You are first.
00:57:43Okay?
00:57:44Just breathe.
00:57:44Take your time.
00:57:45When you're ready.
00:57:46I look forward to hearing you.
00:57:54It'll be fine by dusk, Clyde.
00:57:56I'm telling you, baby.
00:58:01These things lead at your bones and drive your young man crazy.
00:58:09To you, I'm just a man.
00:58:12To me, you're all I am.
00:58:14Where the hell am I supposed to go?
00:58:18I've poisoned myself again.
00:58:21Something in the orange tells me you're never coming home.
00:58:27If you live today, I'll just stare at the way.
00:58:31The orange touches all things around.
00:58:36Grass, trees, and dew.
00:58:38Oh, I just hate you.
00:58:40Please turn those headlights around.
00:58:44You please turn those headlights around.
00:58:54Yeah.
00:58:55Nicely done.
00:58:57Well done.
00:58:58Okay.
00:58:59Next victim.
00:59:02Yeah, no pressure.
00:59:03No pressure whatsoever.
00:59:05So look when you're ready.
00:59:10I can feel it coming in the air tonight.
00:59:17Oh, Lord.
00:59:20And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life.
00:59:28Oh, Lord.
00:59:36Boy, I know the reason why you can't be silent, son.
00:59:44No, you don't fool me.
00:59:46But if the hurt doesn't show, the pain still rolls.
00:59:53Some stranger to you and me.
00:59:58I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh, Lord.
01:00:06Oh, Lord.
01:00:09Can you feel it in the air tonight, my Lord?
01:00:15Oh, Lord.
01:00:17Oh, Lord, can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh, Lord, oh, Lord?
01:00:34Nice.
01:00:36You went to work today thinking it was going to be a normal day, and this is anything but.
01:00:42And for that, I really dig that you turned up and you did this.
01:00:45I really do thank you.
01:00:47I love doing Australian Idol, but this is the bit I really don't like.
01:00:51Craig, the heart and the believability in your performance, I'll remember for a long time.
01:01:01When you're singing to people, all girls want to think you're singing to them.
01:01:04You know, all girls want to think, you know, so when you're performing, instead of looking
01:01:09over my shoulder and at the cave, look at me.
01:01:11Not for too long, because your wife will kill you, but, you know, like, you have to just
01:01:15sort of lock yourself and bring something of yourself when it comes to performing, okay?
01:01:22That's my little note to you, okay?
01:01:25Mason, that was a great choice.
01:01:28I love Phil Collins.
01:01:29It's a great song, and to hear it a cappella is a great idea, you know, especially in this.
01:01:34You got a fine voice, and you go to places in your voice that worry me, because you can't
01:01:41sustain that.
01:01:42That kind of growling place that you found, it's cool, and, you know, think about it like
01:01:47salt and pepper.
01:01:48You know, use a little bit, you shouldn't use a lot of it, yeah?
01:01:52Thank you both for coming and auditioning for me today.
01:01:58My choice today is going to be you, Mason.
01:02:03You'll be coming.
01:02:05Thank you, man.
01:02:07You're more than...
01:02:07God bless you.
01:02:08I honestly don't have any words.
01:02:09It's like, honestly, I'm a guy that works at a quarry.
01:02:12This kind of stuff doesn't happen to people like me.
01:02:14So, Mason, I want to congratulate you for getting this far.
01:02:18So, I'll see you in Sydney.
01:02:20Okay, well, thank you.
01:02:21I want to make sure that I go back, and I'll take what Marsha said, and just improve on
01:02:26it, and make sure that I'm ready to go.
01:02:27Yeah.
01:02:28I don't know what my workmates are going to think, but I can't wait to tell them.
01:02:34Next, after just the second day of auditions, standards are sky high, with seven phenomenal
01:02:42singers being uncovered, who will make it through...
01:02:48You all sounded so fantastic.
01:02:50...to the top 30.
01:02:51But one of you set this room on fire.
01:02:56The singer receiving the golden ticket will be...
01:03:06As day two of auditions comes to an end...
01:03:10Hey, guys.
01:03:11Marsha's wildcard pick, Mason, joins the waiting room, and nerves are starting to build.
01:03:18I'm looking at that golden ticket.
01:03:20It's a bit daunting.
01:03:25The bar is very high this year for the competition.
01:03:30All the other singers here are so good.
01:03:33I'd be lying if I said it doesn't make me feel a bit nervous.
01:03:38The nerves are on now.
01:03:39Holy moly.
01:03:40With five golden tickets already gone, only the truly exceptional will earn their spot.
01:03:48As our judges are faced with making some of the toughest decisions yet.
01:03:56Big day, guys.
01:03:57A lot of talent here.
01:03:58Oh, this is quite the exciting group here.
01:04:00I mean, this is hard.
01:04:02She's got something special.
01:04:05She looks like a star.
01:04:07They can't be overlooked.
01:04:08He's fantastic.
01:04:10I can't get over him.
01:04:11Me too.
01:04:12Me too.
01:04:13I met Mason in Devonport.
01:04:15Mason's a quarry worker.
01:04:18I like him.
01:04:19He's good.
01:04:20Really, really tough decisions to make here.
01:04:23So, um, we'll bring them in.
01:04:25Okay, bring him in.
01:04:26Let's go.
01:04:28Up first to face the judges tonight is ex-Japanese pop star, Hannah.
01:04:42Feeling a little very nervous, actually.
01:04:46I've been working my whole life to be a singer.
01:04:49Like, I've been training.
01:04:50I really, really hope I get a golden ticket.
01:04:53I have so much more to show and give.
01:04:55And bartending songwriter Harriet.
01:04:58So that I do remember
01:05:00Never go that far
01:05:02Could you leave me with a sky?
01:05:12I've been working on my craft for a really long time,
01:05:15so it would be really amazing if I did get a golden ticket.
01:05:19It would mean a lot to me
01:05:21and it would be really gratifying
01:05:22for people to want to hear what I have to offer.
01:05:32Hey, girls.
01:05:33Hello.
01:05:34Hello.
01:05:34Hi, ladies.
01:05:36Harriet and Hannah.
01:05:38Harriet, you're our singing, songwriting bartender from Perth.
01:05:42That's me.
01:05:42Fabulous.
01:05:43And Hannah, you're our J-pop star going solo.
01:05:48Yep.
01:05:49You both have really fresh sounds.
01:05:51You know, I really, I love your version of Missy Higgins.
01:05:54You have that really Gracie Abrams, fast-paced vibe.
01:05:57And then, Hannah, J-pop is just so exciting
01:06:01and that whole genre that you could bring is really cool.
01:06:06Really interesting for us.
01:06:07Yeah.
01:06:08I just have to say to you both,
01:06:10no matter what happens here today,
01:06:12know that you did very, very strong auditions
01:06:14and if this is what you say you really want to do,
01:06:18you make sure that you follow your dreams
01:06:19and don't let anybody tell you any different.
01:06:23Yeah.
01:06:26But we can only give out one golden ticket.
01:06:30The singer receiving the golden ticket
01:06:32out of you two ladies today will be...
01:06:41Harriet.
01:06:44Congratulations, Hannah.
01:06:45Nice work.
01:06:47It's just not your day.
01:06:48Thank you so much.
01:06:49Fabulous you got this far.
01:06:50Yes.
01:06:51Thank you, Hannah.
01:06:51Amazing.
01:06:53Never let that.
01:06:56Thanks, Hannah.
01:06:57Thank you, Hannah.
01:06:57Appreciate your time.
01:07:03Harriet, come and get your golden ticket.
01:07:05Here it is.
01:07:06Well done.
01:07:07Thank you so much, guys.
01:07:07Harriet, flawless performance.
01:07:09I loved everything.
01:07:11Thank you so much.
01:07:11You're welcome.
01:07:12Congratulations.
01:07:13Excellent.
01:07:14I appreciate it.
01:07:15Fabulous.
01:07:15Fabulous.
01:07:15Let me tell them at the bar, you know what I'm saying?
01:07:17Go and celebrate.
01:07:18You deserve it.
01:07:19Way to go.
01:07:19Well, I'll see you again.
01:07:21You will.
01:07:21You will.
01:07:22See you in the next round.
01:07:23Good luck.
01:07:24Bye-bye.
01:07:24Bye.
01:07:25Bye.
01:07:28Bye.
01:07:29You're sitting on top.
01:07:31You're sitting on top.
01:07:32Yay!
01:07:35Woo-hoo!
01:07:36Congratulations.
01:07:40It has not sunk in.
01:07:41Like, I honestly can't believe it.
01:07:44Welcome to the top 30.
01:07:45Yay!
01:07:45Thank you, Harriet.
01:07:51Up next to face the judges is quarry worker Mason and forklift driver Jacinta.
01:08:01I'm hoping that Marsha saw something in me that the other judges are also going to love
01:08:06about me as well.
01:08:10I'm going to give it everything I've got to get in there and tell them I want to be here.
01:08:16I'm feeling really anxious.
01:08:18I've always been in the background.
01:08:20I've never really had my own moment to shine.
01:08:24Getting the golden ticket would mean absolutely everything to me.
01:08:28and just allows me to finally have that confidence in myself that I do have something special.
01:08:35Okay, you guys.
01:08:36Good luck in there.
01:08:38See you soon.
01:08:39Good luck.
01:08:49Hello.
01:08:49Hi.
01:08:50Hi there.
01:08:51Hey, guys.
01:08:51Hey, Mason.
01:08:52How are we doing?
01:08:53Not too bad.
01:08:53Jacinta, how are you doing?
01:08:55I'm feeling very nervous, but I'm good.
01:08:58Hey, you guys, I met Mason in Devonport.
01:09:00Oh, yes.
01:09:01The cave singer.
01:09:03Yeah, the cave singer.
01:09:04The cave singer.
01:09:05The cave singer.
01:09:05How are you doing, all right?
01:09:06I'm good.
01:09:06I'm good.
01:09:07It's nice to see you again.
01:09:07Yeah, nice to meet you, Mason.
01:09:08Nice to meet you guys.
01:09:09You did the Phil Collins song, right?
01:09:11I did, yeah.
01:09:12Okay.
01:09:13We obviously only have one golden ticket to give away, but before we get into that, I would
01:09:19love to hear you sing in the room, if that's okay.
01:09:22Yeah, sure.
01:09:22Mason, if you could go first, that'd be great.
01:09:25Yeah, sure.
01:09:25Okay.
01:09:25Okay.
01:09:26All right.
01:09:29Now the day bleeds, and the night you fall, and you're not here to get me through it
01:09:37all, and let my guard down, and then you pull the wrong.
01:09:41I was getting kind of used to being someone you love.
01:09:49Yeah.
01:09:51Well done, man.
01:09:52You did a good job vocally of that, but I think you stripped the emotion.
01:09:56That's a very powerful.
01:09:58Emotive, yeah.
01:09:58But nice voice, Mason.
01:10:00Nice work.
01:10:01Let's get a refresh on what Jacinta sounds like.
01:10:05All right.
01:10:06And I just can't imagine how you could be so young.
01:10:11Okay, now that I've gone, I guess you're there to me, what you wrote, and that's all
01:10:20you about me.
01:10:23Now you've said forever, now I drive alone past your street.
01:10:29Nice.
01:10:30We're going to have a little discussion.
01:10:33If you don't mind, we will be two seconds.
01:10:42I think so, yeah.
01:10:44Okay.
01:10:45Yeah.
01:10:46Okay.
01:10:48You know, we can only give one away, as you're aware, but do know in your heart that you
01:10:54guys did both strong auditions, and this is a full-on year that we've had for Idol because
01:11:02some amazing talent has shown up.
01:11:05So regardless, just knowing your heart, you both did the best you could.
01:11:11So, um, the person that's going to get the golden ticket will be...
01:11:44Jacinta.
01:11:48Thank you, Mason.
01:11:49Thanks for your time, Mason.
01:11:50Thank you, Legend. Nice to meet you.
01:11:52No, thank you. Appreciate it.
01:11:53Out you go, mate. Thanks so much.
01:11:56Oh, my gosh.
01:11:59Hey, Jacinta. How are you going?
01:12:03Honestly, for this, this is, like,
01:12:05the part where I can stop doubting myself
01:12:07and start really believing in myself.
01:12:09Oh, damn. That's really cool to hear.
01:12:11That makes me a little bit teary.
01:12:13That's really sweet.
01:12:15Yeah.
01:12:16Don't doubt yourself.
01:12:18Look where you are now.
01:12:19It's not about showing people anything
01:12:21except what you can do.
01:12:23You do it for you. Don't do it for anybody else.
01:12:25Yeah.
01:12:25Okay, I'm proud of you.
01:12:27Thank you so much. Go and celebrate.
01:12:28See you at the top 30.
01:12:30I'll see you then.
01:12:31Bye.
01:12:32It's going to be tough.
01:12:34I think she'll do well.
01:12:39Congratulations.
01:12:40Oh, my God.
01:12:46All right?

01:12:47Happy tears, right?
01:12:48Happy tears, yes.
01:12:50Yeah.
01:12:50Oh, my gosh.
01:12:52Just had a lot of rejection and a lot of no,
01:12:55so this means a lot.
01:12:57Yeah.
01:12:58You know what?
01:12:59This is validation that you deserve it.
01:13:02You have what it takes.
01:13:03You're special.
01:13:04Yeah.
01:13:05You've got something that so many other people don't have.
01:13:07You deserve it, okay?
01:13:08Thank you so much, Rikki Lee.
01:13:11And I won't let you down.
01:13:13Last up to face the judges tonight are three uniquely talented male vocalists.
01:13:21Pop punk rock star, Achille.
01:13:24Sitting soon, I will not go.
01:13:27Turn the lights off.
01:13:29Carry me home.
01:13:31Going into judgement, I'm terrified.
01:13:33I'm hoping that my stage presence and the energy I put into my performance was enough.
01:13:38I really want that golden ticket.
01:13:47I'm here today not only for myself, but for my dad and my family.
01:13:54It would mean the world to me to get that golden ticket and to progress.
01:13:59I really hope to make them proud.
01:14:02And finally, soul singer Charlie.
01:14:05I love you to the day that I die, to the day that I die.
01:14:14This is a really strong room.
01:14:16I think the judges, they've made it really tough for themselves this year.
01:14:20It's not like there's one standout.
01:14:22Everyone's really great.
01:14:23Nervously excited, if you want to put it like that.
01:14:26Like, I'm ready, but like, whoo, the anticipation's killing me.
01:14:32All right, you guys, moment of truth.
01:14:33I'm proud of you, boys.

01:16:31You know what I mean?
01:16:31And to me, that's so heartfelt.
01:16:35When you sing for someone that you love, you sing beautiful.
01:16:38Yeah.
01:16:40You're both very strong, very capable artists, which makes this hard.
