02:05..is the stately 19th-century Château de la Croix-Boisier.
02:10with seven acres it comprises 12 elegant rooms and an indoor pool and spa area
02:20in 2019 it was bought by american artist vivian wow these look amazing and her british husband
02:31simon you're so clever who have downsized from their first chateau and brought new ideas here
02:40we definitely have a good team going yeah we complement each other really well what vivian
02:45is really good at is painting the vision creating the look of the room and then giving it the artistic
02:52touches it needs to get that style what i'm really good at is taking instructions um doing what i'm
02:59told and and and then working out how to deliver on that vision if it's not clear to me prince
03:08charming it's charming just an hour's drive south of le mans the history-loving couple
03:18bought the property for 716 000 pounds
03:26and when we last saw them got it yeah i got it sweetie they had taken the first steps to
03:33create
03:34an opulent empire inspired guest bedroom oh wow you gilded it that looks really cool and so far
03:41they've upcycled a four-poster bed built a new curtain pelmet and created a magnificent mirror
03:50and all of a sudden look how old that looks
03:54but they need to crack on and get the room finished so they can showcase it at their regency costume
04:01party in just three weeks okay today is a really really exciting day because all of the pieces for
04:10the empire room are going into place we've been busy building we've been busy gilding and today it's
04:16all going to come together so we're very very thrilled first on their list is to add some vital
04:23supports for simon's curtain pelmet and lending a hand is daughter isabella so who should go up the
04:34ladder first if you can go first right like that okay that's as high as it needs to go vivian
04:43what do
04:47you think uh the block is visible from back here i think you should step back and look at what
04:52i'm
04:52looking at please okay so come here yeah see so two things are going on you can see the block
04:59and the
05:00other thing that's happening is you can see the top of the molding of the window okay see really ideally
05:05all of that would be concealed with the pelmet but you're going to have curtain yes i think you're
05:13forgetting that the curtain is going to be in there yes but unfortunately what you've done is you've left
05:18this much of a gap with the ball and the side what's going to happen is the curtains are going
05:22to open up
05:23and there's going to be this much gap on either side how much further down does it need to go
05:27then
05:28about two centimeters all right so we'll just take it off and uh drop it down a couple of centimeters
05:48i need to take over the holding of that for you you can step away honey because i think at

05:52point you might be in the way okay what's happening here we're changing around ladder positions

06:41but i'm not sure it looks massively different from where i had it but anyway
06:45it doesn't look massively different it just looks just the details that matter isn't that right
06:50they do they do matter they matter a lot they've averted a crisis but with a chateau-sized mirror
06:58to put up and a grand soirée to prepare there are more challenges ahead
07:11over two hours away in brittany lies the once abandoned 19th century water mill moulin du quenon
07:22this once proud building stands on its own island between two medieval bridges and comes with five
07:31floors enormous concrete silos and a small stone jeet today it's the latest project for donna a former
07:42property developer and paul a retired construction manager it's a lot for a you know a couple of keen diyers
07:50i mean
07:50we could do with a squad of 40 people but you know the plan is to do as much as
07:55we can ourselves and that's
07:56that's what we enjoy doing so you know so it may take a bit longer to do but that's not
08:01a problem you know
08:01it's a nice place to be
08:07located just southeast of saint malo the couple bought the property in early 2024 for less than 100 000 pounds
08:17the french are extremely friendly and everybody knows the mill so even going into the shops when you're shopping
08:25they kind of go ah you were the crazy anglais who were doing the mill it's like yes that's us
08:30since they moved in they've replaced the roof and created a roof terrace
08:39inside they've installed joists added 18 aluminium windows and above the turbine
08:48they've recently completed work told you it would go in on a derelict shell which they've remodeled into
08:56a stunning utility room but that's just the beginning of its transformation from top to bottom
09:05today we're going to be working in the basement which in france is the sous-sol we're going to be
09:10working on the windows there's some old metal windows that are damaged and broken and we've
09:15actually boarded them up so we need to remove the temporary boards first when they then cut out
09:20the old metal frame windows and then we need to effectively build some block work to reduce the
09:25existing size of the window to suit the new windows that we have Donna and Paul plan to convert the
09:32basement into a swimming pool and gymnasium god they are every first though they need to fix the
09:48infrastructure look at that view yeah we haven't seen this view because the windows have been dirty I
09:55know it's a fabulous view we're obviously going to have windows all around and the pool will be in
10:05this area but we're actually not overlooked at all because there's literally river over three sides so
10:14it's very private and yeah I can kind of see myself that in this pool just looking out down the
10:19river
10:20um yeah very nice
10:28this room was pre graffiti there's only one small bit I added which is that little love part when Donna
10:34and
10:34I viewed the property in fact before we'd even purchased it we uh made a little scribble on the wall
10:39just
10:40in case we the sale didn't go through so we could always be remembered until somebody renovated this
10:45property and painted over it so but that that's now going to be us but there's a long way to
10:55go
10:55before Paul and Donna will be decorating over their love heart we've got a 1.2 window so we need
11:02to block
11:03up left hand and right hand side it's also about 1.3 high so we'll probably need to cut a
11:07section out
11:08of the cell just so we can get the full height of the window in can you see that down
11:13there yeah from
11:15a purely aesthetic point of view you go central Donna and Paul want the new basement window in line with
11:22the ones above even if it means altering the framework we managed to remove the old window in the glass
11:44hopefully get block work done tomorrow and then get that window fade it's gonna look pretty stunning
11:50isn't it yeah let's hope that Paul's got his measurements right coming up okay let's go well

12:31chateau scattered across France there's something for everyone for France-based jewelry maker Eleanor
12:42from Hull and French hubby Ben an IT director and part-time fireman when you're all sparking
12:49mm-hmm the hunt for their very own Goldilocks castle is about to begin living in a chateau for me

13:01yeah keeping history alive and it's just that extra charm isn't it of things that are not made
13:05anymore big thick walls fireplaces fireplaces chandeliers I like chandeliers beautiful windows
13:13shaped doors and then riding the ride on lawnmower you have to have that their dream chateau must
13:24accommodate them their daughter Delilah as well as Eleanor's retired parents and paying guests the
13:32plan over here is to get a sheet up and running and then I was also a jeweler back in
13:38the UK so I did
13:39make my own jewelry and sell it and I want to get that up back and running a potential jewelry
13:46studio
13:47isn't the only thing on their tick list so the must-have is a tower at least one at least
13:53one two preferably
13:57with a budget of six hundred thousand pounds plus two hundred thousand pounds for renovations the
14:05couple will visit four chateau in the region of Occitanie in the southwest of France
14:14their first stop is near the town of earth in the foothills of the Pyrenean Peaks very very cute
14:26and there's two towers this charming five-bedroom property is on the market for four hundred and
14:36four thousand pounds leaving them over three hundred thousand pounds for renovations okay let's go waiting

15:42challenging yeah make the most out of it or find you when I'm shouting you tease with it outside are
15:50nearly 3,000 square meters of château grounds oh that's nice that's pretty isn't it a little rose
15:58but you can see the roses smell of the roses it's fairly sizable isn't it you don't realize it's a
16:04good size but it's not too big overwhelming exactly the garden is beautiful it's really nice and there's
16:14even a space that could be converted into Eleanor's jewelry workshop look la vous avez la je pense la
16:22partie la plus ancienne du château okay it's a strong start from the exterior I would say the wow
16:33factor is nine out of ten yeah it's beautiful it's kind of like that picture perfect it's just like
16:39this one that you have in your imagination but you want a shutter it's very very cute very cute the
16:46château needs to house them Eleanor's extended family as well as sheet guests and so far this one's looking
17:01positive eight hours north in the Loire Valley take it on its end on its side okay Simon and
17:10daughter Isabella have been challenged we're ready yep gotta go soon with bringing Vivian's upcycled
17:18mirror up to the Empire themed bedroom oh it's really heavy but I think I can get my right hand
17:24under it okay yeah got it now yeah that's stronger well done as mum has a sore back Isabella has

19:58well it's totally Empire yeah isn't it yes totally Empire that's exactly what we're shooting for I was
20:04shooting for neoclassical yeah and I'm happy with that mirror secured they can now give the rest of
20:12the room a little chateau bling this is the big unveiling oh there we go so we're nearly done I

20:23incredibly proud of Simon he's such a good sport when I come up with all these crazy ideas he goes
20:31for it
20:31okay do you want to go turn it on sweetie see if that's sure we've got a bulb missing here
20:36but
20:36we'll do that later Wow look at that so there's still quite a lot to do we really I think
20:46cracked it
20:47a bit today we kind of can see the vision and we know what's happening but with just weeks to
20:53get
20:53the room blinged up for the grand soiree the clock is ticking further northwest in Brittany Donna
21:08and Paul are busy installing a new window in their old basement we now have running water inside so I
21:20no longer have to go to either the rainwater boat or a bucket down into the river so we're getting
21:26there
21:37as they want the window to align with the ones above Paul's rebuilding the frame
21:45but he's soon distracted catching sight of a coipu or a ragandale just outside on there on the tree trunk
21:55brought over from South America in the 19th century coipu can be found in virtually every region of France
22:03I think the level of the river's risen this morning so I think it's taking refuge in one of the
22:09taller
22:09branches out there yeah unless he's getting anything out the mud at the bottom and he's getting his
22:15belongings out of his flooded house he's rescuing his home yeah there aren't very many people that you
22:22look out your window and there's the river only thankful at the moment we're not standing in the
22:27river yeah just got another two courses I may have to cut the top one just because of the height
22:34of the block
22:34so we'll get these two done and then we'll start on this one working on an old building though has
22:49its
22:53drawbacks my block works reasonably level but I think the walls are off I think that column slightly
22:57squint and the lentils not exactly square so typical of buildings of this age as well as creating a new
23:07window Paul's blocking up an old one to the side but today it's a battle with nature the water level
23:16so
23:16high at this elevation that I can't I can't physically get outside just to finish the external face of this
23:22wall so I'll do what I can from the inside and as and when the water drops I'll go and
23:26just finish the outside
23:37okay okay yeah well it's a thick thickish mortar bed then I need to try and get the mortar and
23:45over
23:45the top so yeah 250 a full blocks and then a cut
24:10it's been a productive day
24:14well that looks high to you doesn't it you don't want the window back in here now
24:18no but there's still a large gap to fill before the basement is weather tight again
24:29still to come Simon is feeling hemmed in can't you just take it up on the seam and pull it

24:58in the Loire Valley Vivian and Simon's empire themed bedroom is coming along and the couple are
25:09preparing to play host and hostess it's going to be a busy day because our friends are arriving tonight
25:15and we're going to have an empire regency soiree we've invited them to come in costume we're making
25:23costumes for ourselves and that's a lot to do today as well as finishing their bedroom and getting it
25:29clean and getting it ready leaving the bedroom finessing to Simon Vivian is turning her artistic
25:37talent to creating a regency gown for daughter Isabella you know there was a little bit of
25:44madness involved with the plans for today I think this whole thing germinated because Simon found a
25:51great hat and then he really really wanted to wear his hat so all of a sudden he said well
25:57we need to
25:58have an empire soiree and invite our friends and somehow that got tied up with renovating the bedroom
26:04at the same time that we're throwing this party so when we bought the chateau one of the things we
26:13always hoped that we would do here are you know to have these period evenings and to have dress up
26:21costume based evenings with our friends it's wonderful bringing these antiques out and getting
26:29ready and then doing these evenings with friends that's fantastic fun we all need costumes too
26:34and we don't like to do things by halves either but I do love to sew so I'm very very
26:40happy to be
26:42doing this project I think everybody's gonna look beautiful tonight there we go I'm pleased with
26:49that okay come and have a look the Empire bedroom is nearly there I haven't lost any weight you're
26:58getting skinny on me I don't think so but Simon's costume for this evening needs a little je ne sais

28:31Chateau shoppers Ben and Eleanor are searching for an impressive new home does that need some work where
28:39there's enough room for Eleanor's extended family so far this chateau with its bright spacious master suite
28:55has caught their attention that's nice and there are two further bedrooms on this floor this is nice
29:21like move straight in there's like a few little bits here and there up on the second floor voila really
29:29nice love the mirror and the fireplace and everything there's the final two bedrooms and a touch of luxury
29:38said I'll show off he did in sell the bar man is it oh yeah that's it isn't it Wow
29:44I think I
29:45actually like the bedrooms downstairs yeah but then to have the master bathroom why you can have the
29:50own sleep I think the only problem I could see is because we want your mom and dad to be
30:01with us
30:01yeah we really we need to be able to split the the property almost so we can have the two
30:06families
30:07living yeah like I love mom and dad and we all get on we kind of don't want to be
30:13in each other's
30:13footsteps on top of each other we we both need our kind of like chill time privacy but enough so
30:19that
30:19we're still together as a family it's given them food for thought thank you very much thank you so
30:31much but there are still three chateau to see including this next one in Marinac an hour and a
30:45half drive from Toulouse it comprises eight bedrooms an enormous orangery and Eleanor's longed-for fairy
30:57tale turrets this is pretty actually over budget at six hundred and twenty thousand pounds it leaves
31:06them with just one hundred and eighty thousand pounds for renovations but would that be enough for
31:13this property agent Frederick is waiting to show them around hi hi hey Eric nice to meet you we
31:23have been about the volunteer we really really really Wow look at the ceiling Wow oh my gosh it's
31:35beautiful the original 18th century chateau was entirely rebuilt in the early 20th
31:43century but still boasts many period features oh my gosh that's amazing the view you can see here is
31:53from the outside okay yeah they've taken the view from the outside without the big dogs oh I really like
32:03this chateau this yeah this yeah this this is kind of like the chateau that you have in your head
32:09that's the
32:11shutter when you walk in and it's yeah big ground inside and yeah it's a lot of room everything seems
32:16quite
32:16perfect yeah yeah but will the bedrooms the outbuildings and the orangery prove just as perfect
32:32back in Brittany at Donner and Paul's with the heavy block work done there's a 220 kilogram window to
32:42install they are heavy so they're going to be awkward to try and get in place and before I did
32:47have
32:47assistance this is Donna's second window install so I need to think about it when you've got to get it
32:53from there to there I need to think about your lifting capacity all right so I'll take that side
33:01there's an easy carry handle on it these ones don't open so they're not as heavy yeah well you think
33:08they'd put wheels on it wouldn't you well it's a window not a car wheels would have been nice
33:13ready until we win straight back it's easy we can lift it in no problem don't drop it you're struggling
33:25now your face is going red it's blooming heavy which is front walk around yeah right I'll get the brackets
33:49on so I've just bent these top brackets in just so when we offer the window up it doesn't actually
33:53fall out into the water all right let's get it on the block tell me when you're ready okay
34:10higher higher one two three Ian push that corner it's catching on the top right come down hold the window
34:30let's see it's nice tight fit wow look at that that wasn't too bad with the help of all my
34:43blocks
34:45let's get some airbags under it we have a window these air wedges are great basically you you slide them
34:55into the the grooves there and you pump them up just to kind of level your window or door to
35:02allow
35:02you to then fix it so we use them all the time pump it up
35:12spot on spot on I like spot on
35:22bit of foam and then I sell on the outside and uh done
35:28the difference it's made every window we put in we're just the light coming in it's just a proper
35:35room now isn't it every window you put in you're opening up views that have never never existed
35:40before so I think this was just mountains and mountains of grain yeah not anymore happy with
35:51their window Donna and Paul are in for an even bigger challenge next with a doorway to put in and
35:58a watertight
35:59wall to build coming up will Ben and Eleanor's chateau expectations fall short as you can see there
36:12is a lot of work and it's party time and our guests of honor but will the Empire bedroom get
36:19the royal seal of
36:29approval near the Spanish border in Marinac Eleanor and Ben are exploring an impressive property
36:40yeah combien the community uh yeah on to your cat renewal that's the biggest one okay okay
36:52I quite like the marble skirting boards though it's a bit different
36:57yeah we're not sure
37:01I really like the fireplace in here it's nice
37:05next door there are more divisive design choices
37:10oh look at the pink

37:28but with eight bedrooms in total there is plenty of room for them and Eleanor's family
37:35and the views at least are to everyone's taste
37:40oh that's amazing oh that's so cool
37:46the chateau is accompanied by several outbuildings full of untapped potential
37:54including an enormous orangery so as you can see there is a lot of work to do something
38:02has been done yet that's being refurbished by the current owner come on come on
38:10so to just begin the work that could be the kitchen wow and the cherry on top
38:26this quirky building has three bedrooms
38:31a living room and a kitchen ideal for guest accommodation
38:36ah the grand cuisine
38:40oh cute isn't that yeah no that's great you just have to put the uh the units there yeah yeah
38:45it's
38:46just ideal for a little jeep yeah yeah it's all you kind of need isn't it yeah that's good
38:51that's really cool isn't it
38:53this chateau has certainly piqued their interest with ample space for their extended family stunning
39:01original features and huge grounds it's just over budget at 620 000 pounds we like this chateau don't
39:11we yeah i like this it's actually this one has tipped a lot of boxes doesn't it there are enough
39:16rooms to be unmanageable because you can buy a chateau with 35 bedrooms but then becomes unmanageable
39:22things like the original features we can add to it and kind of like quite excited to sort of like
39:29finish
39:29those bit off actually and bring them bits back to life so yeah there is enough definitely room to
39:34put your own remove the pink wallpaper on the ceiling yeah definitely the ceiling part anyway
39:42they'll need to put the diy plans on hold as there are two more chateau still to explore
39:55back in the loire valley with the costumes completed for this evening's regency party
40:04simon is adding the final flourish to the empire themed bedroom uh finishing tattoos are going well i
40:11think we're going to be on schedule i've just got a couple more things to do really fluffing up the
40:17bed a
40:17little bit and that's it how's it going well come and have a look i think we're there what do

40:39was a worn down bland empty space now it's a resplendent boudoir inspired by ancient egyptian and roman style

41:03taking center stage is the couple's upcycled bed with vivian's neoclassical style mirror sumptuous fabrics
41:17and simon's pelmet completing the dazzling finished look
41:27i love it we're ready for the guests well done i think we're ready for our guests let's go okay
41:34and with the room finally completed it's time to get the party started
41:42tonight close friends have been invited to a chic soiree
41:46in true regency fashion thank you for coming oh i'm so happy you made it
