00:14:11In January of 2025, there was a wildfire that destroyed a lot of our community.
00:14:19So much of our community burnt, like my preschool, the first theater I ever performed in,
00:14:26the home that I lived in until I was five, my childhood best friend's homes.
00:14:38Um, it was a really, it's been really hard that I'm seeing the town that I grew up in completely
00:14:44gone.
00:14:47After the fires, it was really hard to just find joy in the little things, but it's taught me a
00:14:52lot.
00:14:52It's taught me when everyone comes together, it can be so strong.

00:14:58I know the pain that that community is going through,
00:15:01and to have such a bright spot like you to come in and represent is fantastic.

00:27:39And I sung my song and they said it wasn't quite enough.

00:27:50That experience made me doubt myself.
00:27:52It made me feel I had to play a character just to be seen.
00:27:55It seemed like a lie to you than you.
00:27:58I kind of created this character that dressed up like crazy, the most avant-garde, high-fashion.
00:28:04Crystals and diamonds.
00:28:05And it was the thing that made people see me.
00:28:07You'll be my resolution.
00:28:09It just kind of took off.
00:28:11I had opportunities like crazy, not just Australia, but the entire world.
00:28:15Characters have no new show.
00:28:18I've been on every TV show competition known to men.
00:28:22I've done it all.
00:28:22And the art was just getting crazier and crazier and crazier.
00:28:26It almost felt like an addiction to be the most memorable person in the room.
00:28:31But I'd come home, I'd take the mask off, the makeup, the accessories, the everything.
00:28:38And I would hate the person that I saw in the mirror.
00:28:41Hated that version of me.
00:28:43I'm not you, not you.
00:28:47So I took two years off and remembered why that little kid got up on stage that first time.
00:28:54And this is the one show, there's no smoke, there's no mirrors, no nothing.
00:28:59And I said to myself, if I was going to come back into music, it would be here with just
00:29:02the piano and just me.
00:29:04And if you don't like it, you don't like it.
00:29:06I don't ever know if anyone's ever really going to want what I have to give without everything that I
00:29:11usually put on.
00:29:12And that's a big part of why I'm here, just to remind myself that my voice is enough.

00:43:13My family had a bluegrass gospel band,
00:43:15went church to church and sang at churches.
00:43:19I grew up in a super musical family.
00:43:21My dad worked at the lead mine for several years.
00:43:24One evening he was just feeling like God was calling him
00:43:26to do something different with his life.
00:43:28So in 2009 my parents quit their jobs and we bought a bus
00:43:31and we went on the road as a family band.
00:43:34The tour bus was 40 foot long.
00:43:37It was bright red.
00:43:38And we lived on the bus for seven years.
00:43:41We just would go coast to coast and play banjos
00:43:44and sing for the Lord.
00:43:46It was a very unconventional upbringing,
00:43:48but I literally wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
00:43:59We didn't come back into Missouri until 2016.
00:44:01We settled back down and then I met my husband, we got married,
00:44:04and we found out we were pregnant with our first baby
00:44:07like four months after we got married.
00:44:09Every morning.

00:44:13Then one turned to three really fast.
00:44:16With three boys it comes a lot of chaos.

00:45:44I'm like, leave me alone with the dadgum cheese.

00:45:48And when I did, I realized that God had put me in that place
00:45:50and that where I was in my house was the biggest ministry
00:45:53that I could ever have.
00:45:56And being a mom.
00:45:57So I gathered myself and I got up off the couch
00:46:00and I quit throwing a pity party.
00:46:02And I realized that that was exactly what I wanted.
00:46:05And I kind of kicked the postpartum depression in the butt
00:46:08and I said, I ain't doing it.

01:17:08I talk about it with my sister, we both say that we kind of just blacked out and gave
01:17:13a performance of our lives, I guess.

01:17:33about the struggles of anxiety and depression. So I surrender. If his war that I've waged,

01:18:36like American Idol and my mental health. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression my freshman
01:18:45year of high school, but I'd been struggling with those feelings for a big part of my life.
01:18:51I mean, through even elementary and middle school. He came up to us and said, I am not okay.
01:18:57There's something happening with me. I mean, it's a knife to your chest because you're thinking,
01:19:04you know, what's going on? What's happening? And he said, I'm sad all the time.
01:19:11For me, anxiety is just like a big wave crashing on you and you just drown.
01:19:20I was questioning the value of my life.
01:19:24You have to look in the mirror and recognize that mental health professionals need to get involved
01:19:31and that there's no shame in that.
01:19:39Music is my lifeline. It's what keeps me grounded.
01:19:45I had so much to smile about with my audition.
01:19:48And I just knew, like, I really regretted if I didn't give this another shot.
01:19:52I'm just hoping that whatever I'm doing just reflects the message of just not giving up
01:19:58and, most importantly, to not be defined by your struggles, but by your strengths.
