00:15What's up, y'all?
00:17Welcome to the show with Chloe Keisha.
00:20From time to time, we like to look back on our favorite Kelly
00:23Yoki.
00:23So today, we are kicking things off with an encore of a great
00:26song by Chloe Keisha.
00:27Here's me and my band, y'all, with I Lied.
00:29I'm sorry.
00:35In a London house, there's a loneliest girl,
00:39and a broken boy, and a ton of touching.
00:43There's a poliest line around a porcelain heart.
00:46She knows what she's done, and she slightly regrets it.
00:54They've forgotten the words to the English language,
00:58so she lights up a burn as a cry for attention.
01:02As they stare at the walls, her lips ripped raw.
01:05But if she could talk, she'd say something like,
01:09I want your hands on my body, your hands on my body, your hands on my body.
01:15When I said I didn't miss you, well, I lied.
01:18I'm sorry, I lied.
01:20I'm sorry, I lied.
01:21I'm sorry.
01:22I'm sorry.
01:23Cause all I ever wanted was your hands on my body, your hands on my body, your hands on my
01:29body.
01:30When I said I didn't miss you, well, I lied.
01:35I'm sorry
01:38I want your hands on my body
01:41Your hands on my body
01:43Your hands on my body
01:45When I said I didn't miss you
01:47Well, I lied
01:48I'm sorry
01:48I lied
01:49I'm sorry
01:50I lied
01:51I'm sorry
01:52Cause all I ever wanted
01:54Was your hands on my body
01:56Your hands on my body
01:58Your hands on my body
02:00And I said it to her life
02:05I'm sorry
02:10All right, y'all, one more time, give it up to my man
02:16Let's say hello to our first guest
02:18She's an author, entrepreneur, and activist
02:21In her 19 seasons as host of the hit series Top Chef
02:24She instructed over 250 contestants to pack your knives and go
02:27Since then, she's traveled across the country on her travel food show, Taste the Nation
02:32And now she's back to test the searing, sautéing, and seasoning skills
02:36Of the country's best chefs with her new series, America's Culinary Cup
02:40You can catch it Wednesdays on CBS and streaming on Paramount Plus
02:44Say hello to Padma Lakshmi
03:08Every single time I've run into you, I'm like, is that what we were supposed to look like?
03:13You know what I'm saying?
03:14Well, I've had hair and makeup, so
03:16I'm like, I have two
03:18You look great, by the way, you look great
03:20I think I look great, too
03:22You do look like a goddess, though
03:24I think the last time we ran into each other was actually on the show, on Top Chef, right?
03:28Yes, and can I say, I haven't been able to thank you enough
03:31When Kelly came on my show, on Top Chef, my daughter was much younger
03:36She was about 10
03:37Oh, yeah, part of us, yeah
03:38And literally followed Kelly
03:40She followed you around the whole day
03:42Oh, I didn't see it that way
03:43We were hanging
03:44But you were so gracious, even into the bathroom
03:46She followed her
03:48No
03:48And also, you have to understand, for years, years, she had a giant poster that finally ripped
03:54Because of the times that she was touching it over her bureau
03:57And so I stare at your face every time I go into a room
04:01You're welcome
04:02Thank you, but thank you for being so gracious
04:04Because it was 12 hours
04:06It was great, I thought it was just a hang
04:08I did not see it that way at all
04:10What is she doing right now?
04:11She's doing music, right?
04:12Yeah, she still sings, she's still songwriting
04:14She goes to performing arts high school now
04:16She auditioned and got in
04:18So great
04:19That's what she looks like now
04:20Look how old there she is
04:22Oh, my God, your DNA is just incredible
04:26All right, well, you've said that making music, actually, speaking of music
04:29It's similar to cooking
04:30How so?
04:31Because I'm good at one and bad at the other
04:33I'm good at the other and bad at one
04:35Okay
04:35So between the two of us, we can sing and cook
04:37Yes
04:38I mean, you're a very great singer
04:39I'm a very bad cook
04:41I think that, you know, making music is a very creative pursuit
04:46And when I think of a melody, I think of different notes, right?
04:49So you hear, maybe you hear percussion
04:51Or maybe you hear the horns
04:53But there are all these other things that you may not pick up right away
04:56But are there to balance and make that sound more round and more full
05:01Musical ingredients
05:03Yes, and that's how flavors are
05:05Because you're hitting all parts of the palate
05:08The sweet, the salty, the savory, the umami, the sour
05:11It's the chemistry of it, though, that I think is hard for me
05:14I'm just like, I never know what to pull out
05:16It's the chemistry of it that I'm stuck at
05:18Well, I cannot sing on pitch
05:19So you can't have everything
05:21Yeah, yeah, no
05:21You know, you can't be good at everything, Kelly
05:24I just want to be quasi-good
05:25I just want to teach you how to cook
05:28I think that's the thing
05:28It's not even about me
05:29I think when you have kids
05:30You feel like a responsibility to like
05:33Oh man, I wish I'd have had this when I was here
05:35My mother doesn't cook either
05:36So like, it just, you know
05:37My sister does
05:38Is there somebody in the family who cooks?
05:42Yeah, she cooks really well
05:42Do you wash dishes well?
05:44I am so good at cleaning
05:46I love cleaning
05:47I love doing dishes
05:49Oh, you do?
05:50Yes, it's like
05:51That's great
05:51Because it's therapeutic
05:52You don't have to talk
05:53You don't have to think
05:54You're just like doing
05:54It is very meditative
05:56No, yeah
05:56I like washing rice
05:57Yeah, what?
05:59Washing rice
06:00You know you're supposed to wash your rice
06:01Totally
06:04It makes it less sticky
06:05Because you're washing out the excess starch
06:08And also I grew up
06:09Like with Dawn
06:09Or like what are you washing?
06:11No, no, no, no
06:12Just rinse it
06:13Just rinse it
06:14Or soak it in tepid water
06:15And then for 20 minutes
06:17Soak it, okay
06:17When you say wash
06:18I'm Amelia Bedelia, okay
06:20I don't know if you remember that
06:22Yes, I do
06:23I'm putting the calendar dates in the
06:25It's very literal in my brain
06:27Just rinse it
06:28Rinse it with water
06:28Just plain water
06:30A couple of times
06:30So the water runs clear
06:32Oh, okay
06:33No, that makes sense
06:35Okay, I can do
06:36I'm not
06:36I was being funny before
06:37But like, yeah
06:38Well, I did actually think you meant wash
06:39So wait, your new
06:40Let's talk about your new show
06:41So your new show is America's Culinary Cup
06:43Yes
06:43You created this, right?
06:44Yes, I did
06:45It's a very, very big show
06:48We're giving away a million dollars
06:50Wow
06:50All of the chefs that have been competing on it
06:52Are either Boku store medalists
06:55Or Michelin star chefs
06:56Or James Beard award winners
06:58And it's been really, really fun
07:00We, you know, every day that I'm on set
07:04We get to eat this incredible food
07:06And this one doesn't have a format
07:08It doesn't
07:09Every episode is different
07:11So if you haven't watched it
07:12It's based on the ten culinary commandments
07:15Or principles of fine dining
07:17So like next week, for example
07:19We're doing world cuisine
07:21We want to test these chefs
07:22To make sure they're well-rounded
07:24Excellent chefs
07:25In all types of cooking
07:28In all aspects of the field
07:29So, you know, it's world cuisine
07:31We test them on different cuisines
07:33By making them cook noodles
07:34Rice dishes
07:35And dumplings
07:36Because every cuisine
07:37Has a version of those three things
07:39Yeah
07:40And I got to have a little
07:42Alex Trebek moment
07:43By testing their knowledge
07:44It's a lot of fun
07:45It's a lot of fun
07:47Okay, we need to do a short break
07:48And as always
07:49We have someone in the audience
07:50To help us out
07:50Hi, Kelly and Padma
07:52I'm Talia
07:52Padma, like you
07:54I love to cook with my family
07:55The best is when I visit
07:57My grandma in Turkey
07:58She and I go to the kitchen
07:59Cook, chat, and gossip
08:01And somehow the food
08:02Always tastes better there
08:04Especially when I'm cooking it
08:05With a loved one
08:06Stay here
08:07Kelly has more with Padma
08:08After this
08:15So chefs, today
08:17You'll be making
08:19A dumpling dish
08:20A rice dish
08:21And a noodle dish
08:23That are each inspired
08:25By a different world cuisine
08:29On that board
08:30Are 16 countries
08:32Each representing
08:33A different world cuisine
08:35Wowzers
08:36Now, you're probably wondering
08:38What on earth
08:39Are these podiums for?
08:41In order to determine
08:42Which countries
08:44You'll feature in your dishes
08:45We're going to test
08:47Your culinary smarts
08:50We're back with Padma Lakshmi
08:52Y'all, give it up
08:53For new series
08:54It's called
08:55America's Culinary Cup
08:56It's on CBS
08:57And Paramount Plus
08:58So you grew up here
08:59In New York, right?
09:00Yes, I did
09:01So what's like a favorite restaurant here
09:02Or place to go?
09:03Well, when I'm cooking at home
09:05I love to go shopping
09:06To different ethnic markets
09:08There's a great ethnic market
09:10Called Colustion's
09:11I've been going there
09:12Since I was four years old
09:14It's called
09:14Foods of the World
09:15Colustion's Foods of the World
09:16Yeah
09:17It's on Lexington Avenue
09:18And they have all these spices
09:20And hot sauces
09:21Oh, see, this would overwhelm me a bit
09:22Like, I don't know what to do
09:24In this aisle
09:24But there's so many things
09:25You can discover there
09:26It makes you want to cook
09:28Like, it inspires you to cook
09:30But I love all kinds of restaurants
09:32You know, I will eat
09:33I will eat a dirty hot dog
09:35From a New York street vendor
09:37I will
09:37There's nothing I won't eat
09:38At least once
09:39Yeah
09:39You know, so there's
09:41I love high, I love low
09:42I love La Mercerie
09:44Indochine
09:45Balthazar
09:46These are all restaurants
09:47Downtown
09:47And, you know
09:49I'm really happy
09:50I get to live in a city
09:52That has so many types of foods
09:54Me too
09:54I love that I have kids here
09:55Because I'm not a chef
09:56But I can postmates
09:58Like the best of them
09:59Or go to a restaurant
10:00You know what I'm saying
10:01So we do go out to restaurants
10:02And it's such a diverse city
10:04So many different culinary experiences
10:06To me, it is the epicenter
10:08The culinary epicenter of the world
10:10Because there's no food
10:11That you can't get here
10:12Yeah
10:12So what do you enjoy
10:14Doing that doesn't involve food?
10:16Like, what's something you love
10:17To just chill
10:17Or are you a spa girl?
10:19I'm a spa girl
10:19Well, I do love a good massage
10:21And a good facial
10:22I go to Christine Chin
10:23Every six weeks
10:24I've been doing that
10:25For 25 years downtown
10:27I'm bad at facials
10:28But I love a massage
10:28A massage
10:29I love a massage
10:30But also I box
10:31So I have been boxing on and off
10:33For over 20 years
10:36Okay, Rocky
10:37Well, there I'm jumping rope
10:39In those terrible pants
10:40Those are so unflattering
10:43Oh my God
10:44You look like that
10:45When you work out?
10:47Shut up
10:49Well, I eat so much at work
10:50So I need to, you know
10:52Do a lot of exercise
10:53To balance it out
10:54There's no other way
10:55Good for you
10:56And also boxing
10:58Made me feel grounded
10:59In my body
11:01I was always picked on
11:02In school
11:02And so it made me feel
11:04A lot more confident
11:05And as much as it gave me
11:06Physically
11:07It gave me way more
11:08Mentally and emotionally
11:09When someone is hitting you
11:11Even if it's just with a pad
11:12You know
11:13They're not really boxing with me
11:14Yeah
11:14You have to pay attention
11:16You can't
11:16You know
11:17Your mind can't wander
11:18So it builds your focus
11:19Yeah
11:19And you know
11:20I don't even spar
11:21Once in a while
11:22If I get going
11:22They find me a teenage boy
11:24To, you know
11:25Spar with for a couple of rounds
11:27Because honestly
11:29I'm like
11:29Not the face
11:30Not the face
11:30Yeah
11:31No, I remember
11:32I had a trainer on the road
11:33And it was amazing
11:34We did kickboxing
11:35And I would get tired
11:36Because it was like
11:37From the night before
11:38I'd stay up
11:38After doing a show
11:39And I'd just be tired
11:41And whiny
11:41And oh man
11:43Every time Adam
11:44Would just knock me
11:44Right in the face
11:45He'd be like
11:46You're not paying attention
11:46I'm like
11:47Bitch, what?
11:48Totally
11:48Yes
11:49But it's so fun
11:51I did like it
11:52I never regret
11:53Going boxing
11:54I regret not going boxing
11:55If I'm lazy sometimes
11:56And it's cold
11:57I'm like
11:58Oh, I don't want to go
11:58But it feels really good
12:00And it's really good
12:01Again, to build your focus
12:03And to build your self-confidence
12:05And feel really grounded
12:07Yeah
12:08Just stay healthy
12:09Yeah
12:10Emotionally
12:10Mentally
12:10Of course
12:11You're involved
12:12With a number
12:12Of philanthropic efforts
12:13One is education
12:15With the Shanti Bhavan School
12:16Yeah, Shanti Bhavan
12:17Is a wonderful school
12:18They're actually
12:19Building a second school
12:20I think they're almost
12:21Done with it now
12:22It's a small school
12:23In India
12:24It was founded
12:25By a man named
12:26Dr. George
12:27Who actually
12:27Lived and worked here
12:29In America
12:30In Chicago
12:30And then retired
12:31And went back to India
12:32It's non-denominational
12:33But they take
12:35Children
12:36One per family
12:37From slums in India
12:39And they give them
12:39Everything
12:40Including housing
12:42So it's a boarding school
12:43From pre-K
12:43All the way
12:45To helping them
12:45Get into college
12:46And you can
12:48There's a
12:48You know
12:49Documentary about it
12:50On Netflix
12:51And they get
12:52Not only
12:52An education
12:53They get piano lessons
12:55Soccer practice
12:56You know
12:56Psychological counseling
12:58Because a lot of them
12:59Are coming from
13:00Abused homes
13:00They get everything
13:02They need
13:02And in the course
13:03Of their life
13:04To pay back
13:05What Shanti Bhavan
13:06Has given them
13:07They need to help
13:08100 people
13:10Yeah
13:10Across their life
13:11And I think
13:12It's a wonderful way
13:13To build a sense
13:14Of community
13:15And responsibility
13:16For your fellow
13:17Human being
13:18From an early age
13:19It's a beautiful school
13:20I've been working
13:22With them
13:22For over 15 years
13:23And I get
13:24The most moving letters
13:25And I've met
13:26The students
13:27I've visited the school
13:28Yeah
13:29It's been the joy
13:30Of my life
13:31To work with them
13:32What an incredible
13:33Thing too
13:33To not only
13:34Change one person's
13:36Life
13:36But their family
13:37Yeah
13:37You know
13:38For them to go
13:38Off and be successful
13:39Help their family
13:39You know
13:40Absolutely
13:40That's a domino effect
13:41From that
13:42It's so uplifting
13:43And you know
13:44Now the school
13:44Has been around
13:45Long enough
13:46That I've seen
13:46Some of these graduates
13:47I've had them
13:48In my home
13:49They've hung out
13:49With my daughter
13:50Yeah
13:50They've gotten
13:51Into really great
13:52Universities
13:53They've you know
13:54Worked on everything
13:55You know
13:56Like at Goldman Sachs
13:58Or one of them
13:59Produced you know
14:00Published her own
14:01Memoir
14:01And so they're
14:02Really interesting kids
14:04Oh that's beautiful
14:05Before we go
14:06You have a new book
14:06Right
14:06Tell us about it
14:07Yes
14:07I have a new book
14:08It's called
14:09Padma's All American
14:10And it's based
14:11On the last
14:12Seven years
14:13Of my life
14:14Traveling with both
14:15Taste the Nation
14:16And Top Chef
14:17And it's all
14:18Immigrant and
14:19Indigenous recipes
14:20And I'm really
14:22Proud of this book
14:22It's again
14:24Seven years in the making
14:25There's also a lot
14:26Of essays in it
14:27And you know
14:28Just explaining
14:29Like who the people
14:30Are that I met
14:31There's profiles
14:32In every chapter
14:32Of people I met
14:34Along the way
14:34And recipes from
14:36All different communities
14:37When you go
14:39Road by road
14:40City by city
14:41In this country
14:42You really understand
14:43How not only
14:44Regional American food
14:45Is but how wonderful
14:47And how diverse
14:49This country is
14:50And how that's
14:51A great thing
14:51Yeah
14:52You know
14:52It's not something
14:52To be fearing
14:53Or
14:54It should be inspiring
14:55Yes
14:56It's actually
14:56What makes our country
14:57So interesting
14:58And so I wanted
14:59To show that
15:00Through food
15:01Yeah
15:01All right
15:02We need another
15:03Short break
15:03You can catch

15:16Is here next
15:17We'll be right back
15:31Welcome back y'all
15:33Our next guest
15:33Has been doing this
15:34From a very young age
15:35With voice roles
15:36On Family Guy
15:37And The Land Before Time
15:38You see
15:39I love The Land Before Time
15:40Anyway
15:40You've seen him more recently
15:42As a star of the show
15:43Parenthood
15:43He now stars
15:44In the very funny series
15:45Ted
15:46Based on the movies
15:46Of the same name
15:47Season 2 of the show
15:49Is out now on Peacock
15:50Oh hey look at this
15:51Audition for Camelots
15:52A royal delight
15:53Huh
15:55What do you think?
15:56Well if I try out
15:57Would you audition with me?
15:58Sure
15:58How hard could acting be?
16:00I mean John Travolta does it
16:01Skeet Ulrich makes a living at it
16:03There's no way Tom Arnold
16:04Does something we can't do
16:05Matt LeBlanc seems to get by
16:06Someone's paying Kevin Costner
16:08Christian Slater sticks around
16:09There's always plenty of Charlie Sheen
16:10Frank T. Nelson owns a house from acting
16:12I can act
16:13You can act
16:14Please welcome Max Burkholder
16:34Hi everybody
16:35Hi nice to meet you
16:37We've been talking about food a lot
16:38I hear you're kind of a foodie
16:40I am a foodie in the sense that like
16:42I won't refuse anything that's put in front of me
16:45Yeah
16:46No matter how ridiculous
16:48Oh
16:48Yeah
16:49What's like the
16:50What's something like
16:51That maybe people would think is off or weird?
16:53Tuna eyes
16:54What?
16:55Yeah
16:55Like eyeballs?
16:56Like eyeballs
16:57Yeah
16:57I had alligator a while back
17:00But that's not that weird
17:01I feel like
17:02Let's come back to tuna eyeballs
17:04Yeah sure
17:04But like why?
17:06Is there like some kind of nutritional
17:08I mean like
17:10I was told while being served them
17:13That it's good for your eyesight
17:14Oh
17:15So I don't buy that for a second
17:18Okay
17:19Not even an instant
17:20But it was tasty
17:21Okay
17:22You will try anything
17:23I will try just about anything
17:25I will not
17:26Really?
17:27No I will try most
17:28But if somebody drops something in front of me
17:30And says it's an eyeball
17:31I'm gonna be like
17:32It's a no
17:32I got a phrase from a friend of mine
17:35I'll try anything twice
17:37Okay
17:37Which you know
17:38Maybe I just got a bad one the first time
17:40Yeah
17:41And then you know
17:41You do it again just to make sure
17:43How are you at cooking though?
17:45Are you good?
17:46I'm getting better
17:47Okay
17:47I feel like
17:48Like what's something you love to make
17:50Or that you've made recently?
17:51Oh something I made recently
17:53Oh I've been trying baking
17:55Different chocolate cake recipes
17:57Fine
17:58And I made like a really nice
18:00Like it's called Kladkaka
18:02It's Swedish
18:03I know it's got a horrible name
18:04Yeah
18:06Don't blame the Swedes for their
18:07That's a language
18:08Admittedly very silly language
18:10Yeah
18:10Yeah
18:10But it's like a really dense chocolate cake
18:13With chocolate chips
18:14And I made like a miso caramel glaze
18:16A what?
18:18Fantastic
18:18You made a miso caramel glaze?
18:21You just make caramel and put miso in it
18:23But it's really delicious
18:25Oh I was like
18:26You're ready for top chef
18:27That was like very advanced
18:29Certainly not
18:29So you've been acting
18:30Since you were pretty young
18:31Is it true that you left Harvard to act?
18:34How did your parents
18:35How did that go over?
18:36So you know
18:37They didn't love it at first
18:39Okay
18:39Yeah
18:39It's
18:41It was one thing
18:42When I got into Harvard
18:43And decided to use that opportunity
18:45To pursue a degree
18:47In folklore and mythology
18:49That was its own blow
18:52And then when I dropped out
18:55To pursue a career in the arts
18:57That's another sort of
18:59That's the one
18:59Double whammy
19:00My parents are both actors though
19:02So I do come by it honest
19:04Okay yeah
19:04But they would have liked it
19:06If I got like you know
19:07An economics degree
19:08Yeah
19:09To like just make things
19:10A little safer
19:11Yeah
19:11For sure
19:12I love the folklore and mythology
19:14That was amazing
19:14It's cool
19:15It is cool
19:16I'm into it too
19:17Okay well congrats on Ted
19:19It's a prequel to the Mark Wahlberg
19:21Yes
19:21It's a prequel to the Mark Wahlberg movies
19:23It's before this character got super buff
19:28You know
19:30Like I
19:30I'm not Mark Wahlberg buff
19:33That's a completely different level
19:35Yeah it's before that happened
19:37And it's while he's like still at home with family
19:39So we get the lovely Scott Grimes
19:42And Alana Ubok
19:43And Georgia Wiggum in there
19:44Yeah
19:45I heard that the producers
19:47Like had you
19:48Like go out in life
19:50With the bear
19:52Yeah
19:52And you couldn't tell anyone
19:54That you're in Ted
19:54So you're just like walking around
19:56With the bear
19:57Yeah so when I first got the part
19:59I feel like this is hazing
20:02Like what
20:03Like they were lying to me
20:04Yeah like you're like
20:04What you should do for this role
20:06Is totally
20:06And they're like watching you from afar
20:08Yeah well when I
20:09When I first brought him out
20:11Onto the town
20:12Him as if he's a person
20:13He's a stuffed animal
20:14When I first brought him
20:16Out onto the town
20:16It was shocking to me
20:18Like I knew
20:18Oh yeah
20:19There he is right there
20:20It was shocking to me
20:22How recognizable of a character he was
20:24Like I knew he was recognizable
20:25But every block
20:27Block and a half
20:27Someone would stop me
20:28In my tracks
20:29And be like
20:29Oh is that the bear from Ted
20:30And yeah
20:32But did anyone
20:35Were they scared of you
20:36A grown man with a bear
20:37So they would ask me
20:39What I was doing
20:40With the Ted bear
20:41Yeah
20:41And I wasn't allowed
20:42To tell anybody
20:43That I had the past
20:44That's what I'm saying
20:44Yeah
20:45So I would just say
20:46Oh yeah he's my best friend
20:47So I was sort of like
20:49I'm not a method actor
20:50By any means
20:50But I figured I'd give it a shot
20:51For one night
20:52Oh my god
20:53I really wish
20:54I could have seen their faces
20:55That's awesome
20:56I love messing with people
20:57They didn't love it
20:58Yeah
20:58Yeah none of them loved it
20:59They left me alone
21:00Quickly walked away
21:01Yeah
21:02We need another break
21:03Y'all season two of Ted
21:04Is on Peacock
21:05James Beard nominated chef
21:07Ty Ding
21:07Is showing us how to make
21:08Oh
21:09His crispy shrimp toast next
21:11Yeah
21:11We'll be right back
21:27Welcome back
21:29If my conversational economy
21:31Left you feeling a little hungry
21:33I am
21:33Our next guest is here to help
21:35He's a James Beard nominated chef
21:36And owner of four restaurants
21:38In Chicago
21:38Four
21:39Including his latest
21:40The popular crying tiger
21:42Everybody welcome
21:43Chef Ty Ding
21:44Nice to see you
21:46Thank you for having me on
21:47Thank you for coming
21:48It smells delicious
21:50So you've been cooking those
21:51Since you were a kid right
21:52I've been cooking since I was 16
21:53Working at an Italian restaurant
21:55Then working my way up
21:56But yeah
21:57All on the east coast
21:58In Washington D.C.
21:59And then I found myself in Chicago
22:01And just fell in love with the city
22:02Did you always know
22:03You wanted to open restaurants
22:04And this was kind of your
22:05Yeah since I was in high school
22:06You know
22:07That's a gift
22:07Yeah
22:08Coming from an immigrant family
22:09And you know
22:10Of course
22:11Children of immigrants
22:12They want you to be a doctor
22:13Or a lawyer
22:14I just went and told my parents
22:16I just want to cook
22:16Hey
22:17Food is medicine too
22:18I believe that
22:19What are we making today
22:20This looks delicious
22:21We're making crying tiger prawn toast
22:23It's one of our most popular dish
22:25Here I have shrimp
22:27And I want you to help me smash it
22:29Right
22:29So you take this
22:31With a flat side
22:33Okay
22:33Oh
22:34And then you chop
22:35Okay
22:35Okay
22:36Let's see if you do that
22:37Okay
22:37Here I'll take the shrimp
22:38I think I'm going to do it well
22:40Okay
22:40Yeah
22:40Yeah
22:40Okay
22:42That's heavy
22:42Okay
22:43There you go
22:44No
22:45Yeah
22:47And then chop
22:48All right
22:49So you get this
22:50You need to look a lot easier
22:50I will say
22:51Well then you get this
22:52Make sure
22:52Oh I love TV magic
22:54TV magic
22:54You got some ginger
22:56Yes
22:57Fresno
22:58Chilis
22:59And an oyster sauce
23:01Okay
23:02And then egg whites
23:03Is just to help bind it
23:04When you fry it
23:06The water content
23:06Is going to come out
23:07I can do this part
23:08And it's going to explode
23:08Okay
23:09Okay
23:09So you stir
23:10So you stir it up
23:11Okay
23:11You do make it look easy
23:13That was
23:13Okay
23:14And then you
23:15Put it in the scallion
23:16It's thicker than I thought
23:17Yeah
23:17And then you end up
23:18Moving magic
23:19TV magic
23:20Correct
23:20You can get it like this
23:21Okay
23:21You put it in a piping bag
23:23And I'm going to show you
23:24These are Chinese donuts
23:25Vietnamese we call it
23:26Jack way
23:28It's really cool
23:29It's savory donut
23:30And we split them
23:31In half
23:31Right
23:32Okay
23:32With a serrated knife
23:34And then I'm going to show you
23:35How to pipe it
23:36So here's for you
23:37Okay
23:37Okay
23:37And this is for me
23:38Oh I can't wait to mess this up
23:40Hold it firm like this
23:41Yeah
23:41Okay
23:41Okay
23:42Okay
23:42And you're going to start
23:43From one end
23:44Yeah
23:44And you're just going to zigzag
23:46Zigzag
23:46Look at this
23:48Right
23:50Zigzag
23:51Oh nice
23:52I mean
23:52I mean
23:53You got it
23:56And then
23:57Can you lay it down
23:58Yep
23:58You lay it down
23:58And the egg whites
24:00Help bind it
24:01Right
24:01And you press it firmly
24:02And that's why you keep
24:04One end closed
24:05So that way it stays
24:05Okay
24:06And you could pan fry this
24:08Deep fry it
24:08Or use your air fryer
24:10Okay
24:11So while it's cooking
24:12Yeah
24:13I'll show you how to make this sauce
24:14I'm going to feel like
24:14I'm going to feel like a healer
24:15This is a mam jams sauce
24:16Yes okay
24:16So here
24:17You start going
24:18Okay
24:18So you're supposed to do this
24:19Yep
24:19There you go
24:20Because it
24:21Oh I love garlic
24:22Yep
24:22It scrapes in there
24:23Wait what was the first thing
24:24Is that like sugar?
24:25Oh my god I'm in
24:26Garlic and sugar?
24:27Right
24:27What was that?
24:29Okay
24:30And while you're doing that
24:31I'm going to throw in the chilies
24:32Okay
24:32Love
24:33Love
24:33Okay
24:34Lime juice
24:35You balance out the sugar
24:36Love
24:36The saltiness
24:37Oh my god this smells good
24:38Yeah you start to smell it
24:39Yeah
24:40Okay
24:40And then
24:42This is golden melon
24:43It's like Maggie
24:44Have you had that?
24:45It's like a seasoning
24:45It's Vietnamese we call it
24:46I have definitely had it
24:47Because I know that smell
24:48Yep
24:49It's good
24:49But I didn't know the name
24:50That's a little secret
24:51But you see look
24:52You see the consistency of it
24:54The viscosity of it
24:55Yeah
24:55Okay so what do we do now
24:56So you got the sauce done
24:56Perfect
24:57Okay
24:57And now here
24:58Oh wow
24:59It's finished cooking
25:00I love TV
25:01Yes
25:03Look at that
25:04I'm so hungry
25:05Nice and crispy
25:06Yes
25:06So
25:07Okay
25:09Use your knife
25:10Look at that
25:11Serrated
25:12Look
25:13Nice and
25:14Yeah
25:14Woof
25:15We should try it
25:16Smell that
25:17Yeah
25:18Right
25:18Twice fried
25:20So you
25:21You could use your fingers
25:22But here
25:22Oh no I can use this
25:24I'm cultured
25:25Watch this
25:26Okay I got this
25:27But I do want it
25:28Not splash
25:28Here we go
25:29Mmhmm
25:34Holy
25:35It's wild right
25:38I should probably
25:39Probably just make sure
25:40Yeah
25:42It's just
25:44Is this like the most
25:45Famous thing you make
25:46Is it
25:47What
25:48This is really good
25:50I know
25:50Give it up
25:52Give it up y'all
25:52For chef's eye thing
25:54This is incredible
25:57Check out his restaurants in Chicago
25:59You should run to his latest Crying Tiger
26:02Because this is on the menu
26:03Yes
26:04You should run to Crying Tiger
26:06If you're in the Chicago area
26:07Don't let us down
26:08Go
26:09This is so good
26:11Thank you
26:12Thank you
26:12We'll be right back
26:13With a surgeon
26:14Combining
26:15Medicine with wellness
26:16In incredible ways
26:17Oh
26:32Welcome back y'all
26:33When a patient gets a cancer diagnosis
26:36It can feel overwhelming
26:37Often lots of information is thrown at you
26:39All at once
26:40As a cancer surgeon
26:41Our next guest wanted to empower her patients
26:44And what started as an in-office effort
26:46Has turned into a 40-acre non-profit farm
26:48Where patients can develop their own journeys to wellness
26:51From Still Rise Farms in Pennsylvania
26:53Let's welcome Dr. Moe y'all
26:54Thank you Kelly
26:58This is such an incredible organization
27:01So you grew up around medical professionals right?
27:03Absolutely
27:03So my mother was a nurse
27:05My grandmother was a nurse
27:06I come from a family of healers
27:08And so it was natural for me to go into medicine
27:11My sister is a therapist and an educator
27:13So we come from, you know, folks who know
27:16All healers
27:17And know healing and care
27:18But to watch them go through a cancer journey
27:21My mother diagnosed at 29
27:23You know, and I remember I was 7 years old
27:26And she didn't make it to her 30th birthday
27:28Yeah
27:29Back then it was really
27:30It was an anomaly for someone so young to be diagnosed
27:33But we're seeing so much more of that
27:34And it really makes me want to lean into
27:37Those root causes of why younger people are getting diagnosed
27:40You say you saw the same thing over and over with your patients
27:43What was that?
27:44When a patient comes to see me
27:46And they bring their family
27:47And they bring their fears
27:48And I tell them this diagnosis
27:50They have a couple questions
27:51They get a lot of questions
27:52Oh my god, yeah
27:52And the first question is always
27:54Well, what's my life going to look like?
27:56And am I going to live through this?
27:59Do I need chemotherapy?
28:00I've heard things
28:01I've seen things
28:01I've read things
28:02I've seen those commercials
28:03Do I need that?
28:04And then the third question is always
28:05Well, what should I do at home?
28:07How can I fight this naturally?
28:08What does my nutrition need to look like?
28:11And I pride myself on having a lot of answers
28:14You know, and being pretty smart
28:15But I didn't have those answers
28:17Yeah
28:17And so I said, okay
28:18I've got to figure out how to help my patients through this
28:21Because when we dismiss that
28:23And we don't answer those questions
28:24It really just breeds more distrust
28:26Mm-hmm
28:27And confusion
28:28Yeah
28:29People, you know, really just wanting to find the right answers
28:31You say using food as a secret weapon
28:33Gives patients kind of a sense of control, right?
28:36And such a lack of control
28:37You know, you understand
28:39Like you
28:39Cancer tries to take away your power
28:42Yeah
28:43And part of getting that power back
28:45Is focusing on the things that you can control
28:47When everything seems confusing and overwhelming
28:49We really parsed it down into like three, four simple things
28:53Your meals, your movement, your mindset
28:55And how all of those things work together to help the medicine
28:58Because if it's complicated
29:00You're not going to be able to do it
29:01It's not going to stick
29:02But if you can focus on those things
29:04You can get a little bit of control back
29:05You can feel good about yourself, your family
29:07You can make some lifestyle changes
29:09And, you know, I think people are really
29:11They're clamoring for that
29:12They want that
29:13Yeah
29:13I think the thing
29:14If people are clamoring for it
29:15But you don't know
29:16Which is the right information
29:18Which is really helpful
29:19Everybody's different
29:20All cancers are different
29:21Like there's really
29:22Every individual is unique
29:24Yeah
29:24In their diagnosis
29:25And in the healing of that
29:27So that led you to create Still Rise Farms
29:29So what happens?
29:30Like there's
29:31I know there's garden beds
29:32Created with patients
29:33Like what all kind of goes down there?
29:34So I learned
29:35When you're going through a cancer journey
29:37It's hard for you to bend over
29:39Right?
29:39We're giving you treatments
29:40That make your joints achy
29:41You may not have some great days
29:43But you still want to learn how to eat
29:45You still want to know
29:46What can I do to, you know
29:47Improve my side effects
29:48And so our raised beds are waist high
29:50We call them classrooms
29:51And it's because we want you to come
29:53And learn and experience
29:54You know, what you can do
29:56Here at the farm
29:57And then figure out
29:58What you can take with you
29:59So you have a transformative experience at home
30:01So we put together a day
30:02That allows them to come
30:04And experience various facets of wellness
30:06We've got a beekeeper
30:07And an apiary
30:08We've got gardens
30:08We do cooking classes
30:09And nutrition
30:10Ecotherapy
30:11Yoga
30:12Fishing
30:13Meditation
30:24It's like heaven
30:31And experiment
30:31So that you can figure out
30:33What feels good to you
30:34What's empowering for you
30:35What's sustaining for you
30:37And then what are you going to do
30:38When you get home
30:39For sure
30:40How are you going to
30:40Because it's easy to do
30:41When you're in a place
30:42In an environment
30:43Where everyone's kind of helping you
30:43But to carry
30:44Yeah
30:44To have that translate
30:46In your home
30:47Is quite a different thing
30:49I want to go back to the writing of it
30:51Because writing is very therapeutic
30:52For me as well
30:54That has to be helpful for them
30:55Like do they journal
30:56Like do you encourage that
30:57We do
30:58And we do actually
30:59A narrative writing workshop
31:00Where we'll give a prompt
31:01And we'll invite them to write
31:03You know around that prompt
31:05But many times
31:06It's the moment to sit
31:08And to realize
31:09And to spend a little time
31:10In gratitude
31:11So I'll give you an example
31:12Our last wellness day
31:13We invited folks
31:14To write a love letter
31:15To yourself
31:17And that's hard
31:18You know when the body
31:19That you're in
31:20Is going through
31:20So many changes
31:21And you might look in the mirror
31:22And you don't even recognize yourself
31:24How do you tell yourself
31:25You love yourself
31:26And you're proud of yourself
31:27For getting through the
31:28But words are so powerful
31:29They're so powerful
31:30And that is the beginning
31:31Of advocacy
31:32For so many of the patients
31:33Who come
31:34Because they realize
31:35That you know what
31:35My story is power
31:36And that I need to share this
31:38And that I'm not alone
31:40Yeah
31:40Yeah
31:41Well many patients
31:42Can attest to the power
31:43These retreats offer
31:44We're going to meet
31:44One of them when we get back
31:59We are back with Dr. Moe
32:01The founder of
32:02Stillrise Farms
32:03In Pennsylvania
32:03The non-profit host
32:05Year-round wellness
32:06Retreats for cancer patients
32:08In many ways
32:08It empowers patients
32:09On their difficult
32:10Medical journeys
32:11Our next guest
32:12Knows just how transformative
32:13The farm experience
32:14Is for patients
32:15Let's welcome Stephanie
32:16Give it up y'all
32:18Welcome to the show
32:19Thank you
32:20Thank you very much
32:21Mary is so fabulous
32:22So you've known Dr. Moe
32:24For years right?
32:25Dr. Moe and I met
32:26In 2021
32:27We joined the same
32:30Civic organization
32:31And 2024
32:33I was diagnosed
32:34With ovarian cancer
32:36And Monique was part
32:39Of my circle already
32:40And she became
32:40An even more important
32:42Part of my circle
32:43Her knowledge
32:44Is an oncologist
32:45And surgeon
32:46And the retreats
32:49That she hosts
32:49On her farm
32:51So I participated
32:52In my first retreat
32:54As a patient
32:55As a cancer patient
32:57And I remember
32:58Walking in
32:59Driving up to the farm
33:02Opening my door
33:04Stepping out
33:05And it was
33:08Transformative
33:08Just everything
33:09Was green
33:10And lush
33:11And there were
33:13Flowers and plants
33:14And there was
33:14The sound of birds
33:16And it was
33:18It was just
33:19Where I needed to be
33:20And just what I was doing
33:22And healing right off the bat
33:24Absolutely
33:24Oh my goodness
33:26So what moments
33:26Of the day
33:27Kind of stood out
33:28For you when you were there?
33:29There were many
33:30But I think the one
33:31That was the most fun
33:33Was I walked in
33:34I had no hair
33:35I had no eyebrows
33:38And I'm not a makeup person
33:39But there was a makeup artist there
33:42And I said
33:43I'm going to do it
33:43I'm going to get my makeup done
33:45Yeah
33:45And I got my makeup done
33:48And Link Mo
33:48Dr. Mo
33:49Walked by
33:50And she looks
33:51And she says
33:52Stephanie
33:53You look gorgeous
33:54And she runs over
33:55And we shoot this selfie
33:56Yeah
33:56And I felt like myself
33:58For the first time in a while
33:59And it was wonderful
34:01Yeah
34:02Was the writing
34:03I was talking to her
34:04A little bit about the writing
34:04That's such an important thing
34:06For not just me
34:07But a lot of people I know
34:08Just to kind of
34:09Figure out
34:10What they're actually thinking
34:11Or feeling
34:11And sometimes it's easy
34:12To write it out
34:13Was that the same for you too?
34:14Oh my gosh
34:15Writing for me
34:16Was very cathartic
34:18And for me
34:19It was a little different
34:19Because my cancer is genetic
34:21And so
34:22It was writing for my children
34:23Had they been diagnosed
34:25With the BRCA gene
34:27It was writing for
34:29Cousins and aunts
34:30And other people in the family
34:31Who might
34:32Have to go through
34:33That same journey
34:34So it was
34:34It was very therapeutic for me
34:36How is your health today?
34:38How are you doing?
34:38My health is great
34:40Yeah
34:40I've got hair
34:42I've got hair
34:45I've got hair
34:47I've got hair
34:49I currently
34:50I'm what they call
34:50No evidence of disease
34:52Okay
34:52And so
34:53I'm very
34:54That's amazing
34:55We are doing incredible things
34:57But what's next
34:58For StillRez?
34:59What's next for y'all?
35:00Oh this is where it gets good
35:01So so many wonderful things
35:03Are next
35:04Because as we grow
35:06What we're realizing
35:07Is that
35:07You know
35:07We need to capture
35:08Some of the data
35:09Some of the research
35:10That supports
35:11How the meals
35:12The movement
35:12The mindset
35:13How they really help
35:14The medicine
35:15And so we're looking
35:16At research opportunities
35:17We hope to get a greenhouse
35:19And one of the big things
35:21That we're working on
35:22Is that we want to provide
35:23An overnight space
35:24For people to come
35:25Because it's hard
35:26You're taking all these notes
35:27And you're trying to get
35:28Your makeover
35:28And you're trying to get
35:29Your massage
35:29And you want to experience
35:31Everything
35:31But if you really want
35:33To learn and do a deep dive
35:34You probably need
35:35More than four hours
35:36And so we want
35:37Overnight accommodations
35:38So that we can have
35:39Caregivers and families come
35:42We love how
35:43You're empowering cancer patients
35:45To take control
35:45Of their treatment
35:46And write their own stories
35:48So does our season long
35:49Partner pilot pen
35:50Makers of Precise
35:51The go to Precise pen
35:52Of the Kelly Clarkson show
35:53And that is why
35:54They are donating
35:54$5,000 to Stillrise Farms
35:58And also
35:59I love what you're doing
36:01So I'm going to donate
36:02$5,000 too
36:03Because it's incredible
36:04What you're doing
36:05I know that's not enough
36:06To be getting buildings
36:07Built
36:07But you know what
36:08What if people want to help
36:09If they want to donate money
36:10Like where should they go
36:11So they can go to our website
36:13Stillrisefarms.com
36:14There are opportunities
36:15For them to give
36:16There's a form they can fill out
36:18For partnerships
36:18And we really want to grow
36:19This community globally
36:20So we are so thrilled
36:21For anybody to come
36:22And if they want to volunteer
36:24Their time
36:25Their treasures
36:25Their talents
36:26We are so welcoming of that
36:28So yes
36:28Materials
36:29Materials are expensive
36:30There's a lot of things
36:31We've covered on here
36:31Where people do that
36:32So it'd be nice
36:33For everybody in the world
36:35To start looking out
36:35For each other
36:36And what they do
36:36Actually benefits other people
36:38You know
36:38Because everybody knows
36:40Somebody who's going through
36:41You know
36:41A cancer journey
36:42Everybody
36:42All right
36:43We're going to be right back
36:44With what I'm liking
36:56All right y'all
36:57Well here we go
36:58We've got one last story
36:59And it's nothing short
37:00Of adorable
37:01This is what I'm liking
37:05I'm a sucker for all animals
37:07But a couple in the UK
37:08Is going above and beyond
37:09In a way only few could imagine
37:11They opened a hospital
37:12For hedgehogs
37:13All out of their own home
37:15It's a very specific thing
37:17Since they started
37:18Three years ago
37:19They've treated more than
37:20600 hedgehogs
37:22We have this
37:23I didn't even know
37:24There were that many
37:24Just out there
37:25To heavy health
37:25I was like what
37:26We have this generous couple
37:28On the line
37:28To tell us all about it
37:29Everybody say hello
37:30To Andy and Sharon
37:31What's up y'all
37:33Hi Kelly
37:37Oh my god
37:38I would snuggle so hard
37:40That's so cute
37:41So Sharon and Andy
37:43Neither of you
37:44Have a background
37:45In animal care
37:45So how did this start?
37:47Well we were out
37:48In the car one day
37:49And we were
37:50We saw a hedgehog
37:51Collapsed at the side
37:52Of the road
37:53So we pulled over
37:55And picked the little one up
37:56And brought it home
37:58But was amazed to find
37:59That there was just
38:00Nowhere to help
38:02Help the little one
38:03Like
38:04I'm not laughing
38:05At what you're saying
38:06But literally
38:06It's like hi
38:07We had a 50 mile round trip
38:10To our nearest rescue center
38:13To help the hedgehog
38:14And a couple of weeks later
38:16We found another one
38:18So we made the same
38:19Made the same journey
38:21And it was like
38:23Wow people aren't going
38:24To do this
38:25We're going to have
38:26To do something
38:27To help these guys
38:28We found out that
38:30Vets aren't actually
38:31Trained for wildlife
38:32In the UK
38:33So
38:35Yeah
38:36And it just
38:37We just went on
38:38This crazy hedgehog journey
38:39From there
38:40So we started up
38:41In the spare room
38:42With just seven hedgehogs
38:44Soon became apparent
38:45That we needed to expand
38:47So we
38:48Did some fundraising
38:50And turned our garage
38:51Into a fully fledged
38:52Hospital
38:52Complete with an ICU
38:55And we've now
38:56Got a licence
38:57And so we can take
38:58Up to 40 hedgehogs
38:59And we also had
39:00An outbuilding built
39:01Down the bottom
39:02Of the garden
39:02To help a few more
39:04And it's just
39:05Phenomenal
39:06It's grown
39:07It really has
39:09It really has
39:09Oh my good lord
39:12Look at that picture
39:13This is such an incredibly cool thing
39:16I mean you never know
39:17Like where your life's
39:18Going to take your alligator
39:19It says they are swimming
39:23That hedgehog
39:23What does that one have a name
39:25This is Marissa
39:26Larissa is swimming in the air
39:30I love it
39:31So she was
39:31She was an orphan
39:32She came in
39:35Sadly mummy
39:36Had been knocked over
39:37By a car
39:37And killed
39:38She managed to get up
39:39Onto the pavement
39:40But little Marissa
39:41Was just sat
39:42About a foot away
39:43From mum
39:44So yes
39:45I love that she is like
39:47Get out
39:48Give me my spotlight
39:51It's so cute
39:51Y'all have the most
39:52Amazing hearts
39:53Thank you so much
39:54Sharon and Andy
39:55I'm liking your post
39:55Right now
39:56But that's not all
39:58Our season long partner
40:00Pilot Pen
40:00Makers of Precise
40:01The go to Precise
40:02Pen of the Kelly Clarkson show
40:03Want to honor
40:03Truly unstoppable people
40:05Just like y'all
40:05So they're
40:06To help you
40:07Keep rescuing hedgehogs
40:08They're going to be
40:09Riding the burnt island
40:10Hedgehog haven
40:11A check for $1000
40:12Just to pitch in
40:15Thank you guys
40:18Incredibly cool
