My Son Went Quiet
Transcript
00:14When my wife died, my son went quiet.
00:24You want something to eat?
00:41I would hear him cry in his room at night sometimes, but that was something I did too.
00:50I took my son to the doctors because I knew he was sick in the head.
00:54Jay?
00:57The first doctor said that he was not sick in the head, just sad.
01:02You know, I've done a pretty good examination and I think that he's fine.
01:06He's just really sad.
01:08And that if he exercised, he will feel better.
01:11You should be good in no time.
01:13Will you show him?
01:14Yeah, absolutely.
01:15There's nothing physically wrong with him.
01:16I don't think he's sick in the head.
01:18The second doctor said my son was not sick in the head, just sad, and would start talking
01:24again if he put his face in a bowl of cold water once a day.
01:28That might bring him back into balance.
01:30Then that would help him hopefully start talking again.
01:34He hadn't spoken a couple of months.
01:36The third doctor said my son was sick in the head and that he would be fine if I gave
01:41him
01:41some pills.
01:42This will help you get through this.
01:43There's two here.
01:45She gave me pills as well.
02:03It started with a hum.
02:27My son started speaking again.
02:30At first, it was a few words and then whole sentences.
02:40He began to spend more time in his room.
02:47He would rarely leave the house.
03:13Last night, I heard you talking to somebody.
03:23My son went quiet for the rest of dinner, so I did not ask again.
03:42It was pretty loud and the way he kept yelling made everyone...
03:53Oh, I'm sorry, I turned knocked.
04:12I looked at her expecting her to wave
04:31I knew that you would. Delia's presence of these affairs is almost as invariable as the corpses.
04:39I never miss a woman, do I?
04:44My wife was missing her warmth.
04:49I knew she was there though and tried not to roll on top of her.
04:56I hate going to work every day.
04:58We fell back into our routine very quickly.
05:01Every morning we would wake up and eat breakfast together.
05:06I would leave then to catch my bus to the factory and my son would leave to go to school.
05:34Now that my wife was back, it was harder to be at the factory.
05:39So I asked if I could take some time off.
05:42I have some issues at home. I need a couple of weeks time off.
05:46Is everything okay?
05:48My son is not doing so good. He needs help and I have to attend to him.
06:04I don't taste any fishiness. This mole is like a mousse. It is light.
06:09We could not go for walks anymore.
06:14So instead, I purchased an indoor bike so we could get some exercise.
06:24But my wife did not want to use it.
06:31On Tuesdays, our son had the afternoon off and would come home for lunch.
06:35How is it?
06:37It's okay.
06:37My wife used to make lunch for us.
06:39Probably not as good as your mom's.
06:42No.
06:42But she could not cook anymore.
06:46When there was nothing on TV, we would look at the photo albums together.
06:54But my wife could not laugh anymore.
07:07And I'm so confused.
07:17My wife began to get bored.
07:20She stopped looking at me.
07:33I decided that my wife could see it again.
07:39I called her work friend Ivy.
07:43I did not tell her about my wife.
07:45Let me show you something.
07:46I wanted to surprise her.
07:49Look, there's Manjeet.
08:00I gotta go.
08:11I started crying again.
08:43Please get that pillow as soon as possible
08:45and get it started on it.
08:53The doctor said that I was sick in the head
08:56and gave me pills.
09:31I was sick in the head.
09:44My son came back to my room in the morning.
09:47He did not know what to do at first
09:49and called for help.
09:50Don't stop until help to take over.
09:52Don't stop.
09:53It'll be pulling up any second, okay?
09:54I'm gonna be a wound.
09:58Did you speak to anyone else?
10:00My son broke my ribs
10:02when he started to press on my chest.
10:06Did you call 911 or any friends?
10:11My son went quiet again.
10:13He was trying to help you.
10:14If you can give us some information.
10:21I would hear him cry in his room at night sometimes.
10:25But that was something I used to do, too.
10:32Okay, look, I'm gonna write you a prescription.
10:34And the doctor told him
10:35that he was sick in the head
10:37and would be fine if he took pills.
10:54I liked it when he hummed.
10:55I liked it when he hummed.
11:10It made me think of the times
11:11he would hum at dinner.
11:17He got used to us visiting.
11:20Bye.
11:25My son started speaking again.
11:28At first, it was a few words.
11:30Then a few weeks later,
11:32whole sentences.
11:33Big project.
11:34Worth a lot of points.
11:39On Tuesdays,
11:40my son had the afternoon off.
11:42We would look at the photo albums together.
11:55My son started spending less time with us.
11:58Is this warm salad?
11:59But it was okay.
12:01Overall, though, it's a great dish.
12:02We knew that this would happen one day
12:04and we had each other.
12:06So, Kobe,
12:07you have really bitter
12:08and sour
12:10and sweet flavors
12:10and it all comes together
12:12and really, really nice warm and equal order.
12:16The chef that will be really cold is...
12:21Chef Johnny!
12:24My son would still cry.
12:30But he knew
12:31that we were still there.
12:42My wife and I
12:44never left our son.
12:46We had to stay with him
12:49because our son was sick in the head.
12:51But he would be fine
12:54as long as he knew
12:55that he was not alone.
12:57Come on.
