00:00We just received word that Tom Homan made some comments at a speech he's giving saying that he is sending
00:05in a surge of ICE agents to the state of New York.
00:08Should we have the, if this legislature passes what I introduced in January, known as local cops, local crimes.
00:16The premise behind this is simple, that local law enforcement is there for one purpose, that is to help protect
00:22our communities.
00:23I've invested over $3 billion to help local law enforcement.
00:27We can see the results. Crimes are dropping dramatically across the state from Buffalo to New York City, and we're
00:32proud of that.
00:33We also will continue working with ICE in cases of dangerous criminals.
00:37We always have, always will. That will not waver.
00:40All I'll say to Mr. Homan is that Donald Trump himself said he would not send a surge of ICE
00:45agents to the state of New York unless I ask.
00:48I'm not asking. Thank you very much, everyone.
00:52Are you going to call him today?
00:55Thank you, Governor.
00:59I just want to express my deep appreciation to the governor, to Senators Stewart-Cousins and Gennaris, who I met
01:06with earlier, as well as Speaker Hastie, for the opportunity to sit with them and talk.
01:10It's a little bit like, for me, old home week.
01:12It's been a great opportunity to come back and see a lot of friends and talk about an issue that
01:17is critically important to the future of this republic.
01:20We're working hard.
01:21Hakeem Jeffries asked me to come and sit with the leaders to talk about, as they near the end of
01:26the legislative session, changes that would be necessary to the state constitution to make sure we fight back, not only
01:32for the tremendous upset that the president has caused on redistricting in the mid-decade,
01:38in Texas, in North Carolina, in Ohio, so many other places around the country, Florida just this week, but in
01:47the footsteps of the Calais decision in Louisiana,
01:49where we potentially lose as many as a dozen members of the House of Representatives who are members of the
01:58Congressional Black Caucus who have served with great distinction,
02:01and their seats are now in jeopardy, as a number of states, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, certainly Louisiana, all begin to
02:10do the most partisan of redistricting.
02:12And for black Americans, this is essentially a decision that says you will have taxation without representation.
02:20That extreme partisan gerrymandering, as long as we don't say it's racial, even though it is, and I think the
02:26court knew that,
02:28that they will do whatever is necessary. So, as the governor said, we didn't start this fight.
02:33We didn't start it in Texas. We didn't start it in Louisiana, but we intend to finish it.
