Just in time for Labour Day, China made a landmark ruling: you can't fire a human just because AI can do their job.
A Chinese court ruled in favor of a worker named Zhou, whose employer tried to demote and cut his salary after replacing some of his duties with AI. Zhou challenged the decision — and won.
The case established a legal principle: using AI to perform a worker's job does not automatically justify firing or demoting them. The ruling was shared by China's State Council on April 30, the day before Labour Day.
