Two modders with a love of GTA San Andreas are creating one of its most ambitious mods: Blue & Blood, a total conversion mod which thrusts you into the body armour of C.R.A.S.H., an elite division of the SAPD. In this video, we uncover the full story behind the project:

How two creators reimagined San Andreas from the other side of the law.
Why their storytelling and world-building went viral across the GTA community.
Why they walked away from the mod...only to come back stronger than ever.

With a Vice City mod and a standalone personal project in the works too, modders Cascavel and giacobbe are gaining a cult following, especially as fans wait for GTA 6.

00:00Two modders tried to write the greatest San Andreas story Rockstar never made, and when
00:05they briefly cancelled the mod to build their own game, the backlash was instant.
00:11Fans were furious, disappointed and convinced the project was gone for good.
00:17With no GTA 6 PC release window in sight, let's dive into the story of Blue and Blood,
00:23the most ambitious GTA mod in years, why it blew up across the community, why its creators
00:29walked away, and how they made a combat that nobody expected.
00:36For over 20 years, players have been tearing through Los Santos with CJ, dual wielding Uzis,
00:43out running cops, and rewriting 90s California one mission at a time.
00:49Write it down in a second, I ain't gonna pencil with you fat sucker, let me play first.
00:53But now, two creators are bringing San Andreas back to life in a way Rockstar never has.
00:58This, from the other side of the law, Blue and Blood is a total conversion mod that drops
01:04you in the boots of Los Santos PD's most notorious unit, Crash.
01:09F**k's the hold up! Officer, get that mother f**ker lifted up!
01:14A squad balancing justice, corruption and pure chaos.
01:18It's gritty, it's personal, it's unapologetic GTA and it's built by… two people?
01:29The Blue and Blood mod's journey started on a text-based roleplayer surveyor called Los
01:33Santos Roleplay, where long-time GTA roleplayer and modder Cascavel spent years crafting characters,
01:41characters, stories and drama with hundreds of other players in real-time.
01:46That world taught him writing, character development and grounded storytelling, skills he'd eventually
01:52carry into modding.
01:53From pedestrian models to full conversions like Frosted Winter and Syndaco Chronicles,
01:59Cascavel built a rep for deep, believable characters even inside a 20-year-old engine.
02:05With my background in roleplay and storytelling, I knew I could write compelling dialogue and
02:11characters.
02:12Seeing interest in the 3D era still thriving in 2025 made it feel like the right time to
02:18bring Blue and Blood to life.
02:20This impressive mod isn't down to Cascavel alone.
02:23Jayakob, a software engineer who's been a GTA fan since the very first top-down game,
02:28helped birth the project.
02:30A software engineer by trade, Jayakob knew little about GTA's modding scene, but when
02:35Cascavel pitched Blue and Blood, he said yes instantly.
02:39What started as a multi-protagonist idea across all three San Andreas cities quickly narrowed
02:46down to one premise that just made sense, play as the police.
02:51Not generic cops, but Crash, the most infamous, corrupt, morally grey unit in Los Santos.
02:58It was the perfect setup for a story where good intentions turn sour, heroes become villains
03:05and justice gets messy.
03:10From day one, Blue and Blood was built on storytelling.
03:14Cascavel wanted grounded characters, believable dialogue and the humour fans love from GTA's
03:213D era.
03:22Don't worry boys, backup's here!
03:33Did he just?
03:34Throw straight into the goddamn sea.
03:39They expanded the world, gave depth to the Vagos, fleshing out the LSPD, building new stories
03:46that felt authentically Rockstar, without copying Rockstar, and fans noticed immediately.
03:53When the first dialogue snippets and footage hit GTA forums, the reaction was instant.
03:59People praising the duodev team, creating something that feels like the GTA we grew up with.
04:05Someone finally gets the 3D era again.
04:08The authenticity hit home.
04:13Mods, extending the life of an old game is nothing new, and Blue and Blood exists because
04:18the San Andreas modding continues to thrive.
04:21Two decades later, the community is bigger than ever.
04:25It's massive, says Cascavel.
04:27From simple texture edits to total conversions, it's all there.
04:31The most impressive thing is the tooling.
04:34People have built mission editors, script libraries, everything.
04:38The legacy is the community knowledge that's been built up over time.
04:43Even with GTA 6 console release coming in 2026, neither creator thinks the energy will
04:49fade.
04:50If anything, Jayakob says, GTA 6 might reignite the nostalgia.
04:58In 2023, everything changed.
05:01A solo dev game called Schedule 1 caught the dev's attention.
05:05Not for its sales, but because one person built a world that resonated with thousands.
05:11It wasn't about the financial success, Cascavel explains.
05:15It was the idea that one person could build a world that resonated with people.
05:20We thought, if he can do it, why can't we?
05:23So they stepped away from Blue and Blood to pursue an original project.
05:27The reaction?
05:28Brutal disappointment.
05:30Rumors and accusations of selling out.
05:34It was disheartening, says Cascavel.
05:37People didn't try to understand why.
05:39But the truth was simple.
05:40They wanted to test themselves to see if they could build something new from scratch.
05:45Months later, the duo released the docked and loaded teaser for Blue and Blood and the
05:51GTA community lapped it up.
05:54The hype flipped overnight.
05:55Blue and Blood was back.
05:57Not only did the devs return, they expanded.
06:04Alongside Blue and Blood, they are now developing GTA Palmline.
06:08A modernized reimagining of Vice City using San Andreas mechanics.
06:13What if Tommy could swim, hit the gym, actually go out on a date with Mercedes?
06:18Palmline asks the questions and updates the iconic world.
06:21Not replacing Vice City, but celebrating it.
06:24Where'd you pop up from?
06:26I've been looking for a bird like you for ages mate.
06:29You know who I am?
06:29Looking for some English guy.
06:30Balancing multiple projects is a juggling act, but both Cascavel and Jacob found rhythm in
06:37the chaos.
06:38It's both difficult and refreshing, says the latter.
06:41We pour a lot of effort into every detail, which can lead to burnout.
06:46Switching between projects helps.
06:47If we need a break from Blue and Blood, we jump into Palmline.
06:51Or our indie project, it keeps things fun.
06:54While fans obsess over Blue and Blood, there's something else brewing behind the scenes.
06:59An original indie game inspired by Stardew Valley, Graveyard Keeper, Mafia and Schedule 1.
07:07We started overly ambitious.
07:10It would have taken us years amidst Jacob.
07:13We refined it into something achievable.
07:16Right now, we're focused on building our MVP game loop while balancing our modding work.
07:21It's a natural evolution for two creators who grew up inside Rockstar's worlds and are
07:27now learning how to build their own.
07:32Two decades later, San Andreas isn't alive because Rockstar updated it.
07:37It's alive because creators like Cascavel and Jacob refused to let its stories fade.
07:42Blue and Blood isn't just a mod.
07:44It's a continuation of a legacy that made GTA legendary.
07:48A reminder that this world still has something to say and millions of players who want to
07:53listen.
