00:00A new NHS-backed trial is exploring whether adults who are deaf could benefit from having
00:06two cochlear implants instead of just one. It's being led by Addenbrookes Hospital and
00:11the University of Cambridge and will run in 14 hospitals across the UK, supporting more
00:17than 250 patients. Former opera singer Janine Roebuck, who is from London, says the change
00:24has been life-changing after receiving bilateral implants. Under current NHS guidance, adults
00:30are offered a single implant, while children routinely receive two. The study will monitor
00:36patients for 12 months to assess hearing, well-being and quality of life. The trial is expected
00:42to recruit in autumn.
