00:11Thank you so much for joining us.
00:30Podcasts, panalo ko kayo lahat.
00:34Dahil ang ating bisita ngayong hapon na isang reyna.
00:37She is Ms. Universe Philippines 2026.
00:43Night Eye Kapuso, please welcome,
00:45Bea Melyan Windorsky.
00:52Hello, Tito Boy.
00:54It's such an honor to finally meet you.
00:56The pleasure is mine.
00:58Thank you very much.
00:58How tall are you?
00:59I'm 5'11.
01:01Wow, okay.
01:02But I love that walk.
01:03Yan ba yung liyad walk na sinasabi nila?
01:06Oh yes, liyad la union.
01:07Pa, liyad la union.
01:08That's what you're saying.
01:09Are you okay with the crown?
01:11Oh yes, yes.
01:12We might have a repeat of coronation night
01:15where I have to...
01:15Nahunog siya.
01:17It's just pinned in, so...
01:18Okay.
01:19Alam ko, meron kang background sa dance, sa ballet.
01:22Yes.
01:22Kaya meron kang liyad la union.
01:24How does it go?
01:25So, because of my background in ballet, I'm very flexible.
01:30And actually, during Aqua Boracay, where it became so popular, it was an accident.
01:35I got so overexcited that I leaned back too far.
01:38So, it was an accident.
01:39Oh, it was an accident.
01:41And then, so, do you walk na nakaliyad?
01:44Ah, hindi.
01:44So, first, you are all prim and proper.
01:49And then?
01:49And then at the end of the runway, it was very inspired by Paulina Vega, the Latinas.
01:55And then you just lean back and get back to your proper posture.
01:59Ah, that's nice.
02:00I got that, no?
02:00Can we do a conversation?
02:01Yes, yes.
02:01Nakaliyad tayo pareho.
02:02Yeah, perfect.
02:04We can make eye contact perfectly this way.
02:06We can make eye contact tayo.
02:08You know, like, for example, four days after the contest, how are you doing?
02:11Has it finally sunk in?
02:13I haven't.
02:15The other day, I said, what's changed?
02:16You gave me.
02:17It should be like that.
02:20And then you can kind of breathe in while you straighten up.
02:23You take a break, and then you breathe in, and then go back.
02:27Exactly.
02:27Okay, go ahead.
02:28So, how are you doing?
02:29Okay?
02:29I'm doing, it's kind of the same.
02:32Because the other day, I said, what changed?
02:35I don't take rubber onkas anymore.
02:37I still take onkas when I'm in a rush.
02:39Okay.
02:41Okay.
02:41Now, I'm afraid I'm going to fall.
02:43Oh, thank you so much.
02:45There.
02:45Okay.
02:46Please, please, please, welcome to the program.
02:49Thank you so much.
02:49And thank you for teaching me how to do the liyad.
02:52You're quite flexible still.
02:55I'm sorry?
02:55You're quite flexible.
02:56Do you do Pilates, ballet, anything?
02:59Not much.
03:00But, you know, I'm joking.
03:03I just run.
03:05Okay.
03:05Bea, muli, alam niyo po, mga nanay, tatay, at kapuso, napaka-controbersyal po ng mga kagaanapan.
03:12Pag mag-uusapan ho natin mamaya yan.
03:14During the contest, you won most of the awards.
03:19You've heard of the Hakot Awards curse.
03:21Yes.
03:22You've heard about it.
03:23About all.
03:23Like, ang nangyari noon, Winwin Marquez, even Michelle D, kung hindi ako nagkakamali,
03:29during the time of Michelle and Miss Cortesi.
03:33Kung saan na panalunan din ni Michelle lahat ng awards.
03:36And then, Celeste won.
03:40What was your feeling when you were winning all the awards?
03:44To be completely honest, all I was concerned about was that I could pay rent through the end of the
03:49year.
04:14So, habang binibilang mo yung mga awards na napapanalunan mo, iniisip mo na, ay, may pambayad na ako sa renta.
04:19Opo.
04:20Yun yun.
04:21Yes.
04:22Very good.
04:24Pero nung tinawag ka bilang winner, parang na bigla ka.
04:28What's the story?
04:30So, I was just taking it all in, being very happy to be beside so many women that I look
04:36up to,
04:37who are so empowered, who are so, such strong performers,
04:42that when they were finally announcing it, I was dissociating a little, honestly.
04:46So, when they called my name, I didn't quite hear it until Allison, Miss Pampanga,
04:51she shook my arm and she was like,
04:53Bea, it's you.
04:54Go up.
04:55And all the emotions just started pouring out because,
05:00as a girl who grew up not really feeling like I belonged anywhere,
05:04to finally feel chosen by the Philippines, my chosen home,
05:08was really a full circle moment for me.
05:10Okay.
05:11Bea, ang gusto kong itanong, kung hindi ikaw ang nanalo,
05:15who did you think was going to win?
05:19Sa isipan mo lang.
05:20I thought it would be any of the seven that were up there because I was the second to go
05:25for Q&A.
05:26So, I heard everyone's answer except Miss Oton Kodarat.
05:30And everyone's answer was so strong and connected to who they are as a woman.
05:35And ultimately, it's the same for any pageant, any given day, any different board of judges.
05:41It changes what they're looking for.
05:43So, I really wasn't sure what the judges were looking for,
05:47but I was so inspired by Ate April Smith's performance.
05:52I was so uplifted by how kind she was.
05:55April was Miss?
05:56Cebu City.
05:57Okay.
05:58Yes.
05:59She did very well.
06:00And the fact that she represents the Philippines with such grace internationally
06:05through her work as an OFW already,
06:07I'm really excited to hopefully see her represent us internationally in the coming year as well.
06:13Okay.
06:13Bea, as in the many contests in the past,
06:16hindi lamang sa Miss Universe Philippines,
06:19pero lalo ng Miss Universe Philippines,
06:21ang daming controversies.
06:22Ang daming controversies.
06:24Umpisa natin ang mga pinag-uusapan.
06:26Una, of course, you know, some of your detractors are questioning your citizenship, residency.
06:32Ano ba ang kwento?
06:34So, I've actually been a Filipino citizen ever since I was born.
06:38One of the first things my mom did when I was born was register my birth
06:42with the Philippine Embassy in the U.S.
06:45And under RA 9225,
06:49if you are a Filipino citizen born to a Filipino mother or father,
06:54as long as they register your birth, your citizenship is reacquired.
06:57And then, once I moved here to the Philippines,
07:00that's when I started the very long process of obtaining your passport.
07:04I've always had my dual citizenship documentation,
07:07but you need that passport to open a bank account,
07:11to access things like your national ID.
07:14So, that's a kwento there.
07:16So, gaano ko nakatagal dito sa Pilipinas, sa mamalagi?
07:18At nag-uupa, sabi mo nga, doon sa iyong bahay na tuwang-tuwa po si Bea
07:22dahil when she was winning the special awards, meron na akong pang-upa.
07:26Okay, so how long have you been staying here?
07:28I've been staying here for a year and a half,
07:30but I've been visiting the Philippines ever since naong bata ako.
07:36I have a permanent residence in San Juan, La Union,
07:39because that's where my grandparents live.
07:41They moved here after I was born.
07:43So, every two, three years, whenever we could afford it,
07:47we would visit them here.
07:48And that's why I really felt like I was lucky to grow up in two homes,
07:52both here and in the United States.
07:55I hear you, and your mom and your lola, I think, were in the pageant.
07:58Yes, they were.
08:00That was heartwarming.
08:02Okay, pero sinasabi nila,
08:04kung ika'y Pilipina,
08:06bakit ka nag-represent ng United States of America in Miss Earth 2024?
08:11In all honesty, it's because my mom signed me up for that pageant without telling me.
08:18So, ang mama ang nag-sign up?
08:19Okay.
08:20I was in the middle of getting my degree, my undergrad in history,
08:24and I was so focused on law school applications
08:28and pursuing my academic career
08:30that when my mom signed me up for Miss Earth USA,
08:33I was like,
08:34this is not my thing.
08:35I'm not going to try very hard.
08:37I won't win the pageant.
08:39And then one day,
08:40if I feel called to pageantry,
08:41I'll join again in the Philippines
08:43because that's really where my heart is.
08:45So, in other words,
08:45we're going to start with my mom
08:46because I'm from Miss Earth
08:48and you did it for mama.
08:50And also,
08:52you know,
08:53you have the crown.
08:54I don't want to spoil it,
08:56but since this is a conversation
08:57we want to get to know you better,
09:00some approve,
09:02the judges approve
09:02of you winning the crown
09:04and many, many, many people
09:05are very happy that
09:06you did win the contest.
09:08But there are people that say,
09:09for example,
09:10during the Q&A,
09:10you talked about the Q&A,
09:12and I'll be very honest.
09:14I mean,
09:14most of the girls,
09:15it's not easy to do Q&A
09:17in beauty pageants.
09:18I mean,
09:19I have trained beauty queens
09:21and it's not easy.
09:23And most of you girls
09:24didn't answer actually the question.
09:26You would realize that after.
09:28And when you answer the question,
09:31you know,
09:31people started to say,
09:34the words used were
09:36performative,
09:38opportunist,
09:39I mean,
09:39you know,
09:39crazy words.
09:41You're not hurt.
09:42For me,
09:43what I was saying is
09:45that the Philippines
09:46is worth representing
09:47because I've done work
09:49to represent the Philippines
09:51and for the Philippines
09:52my whole life.
09:53Even in the US,
09:55I joined the Asian Student Union.
09:57I was joining protests
09:59of Stop Asian Hate
10:00because I wanted
10:02to live up
10:03to the legacy
10:04of my Lola
10:05and my mom
10:06and all they sacrificed.
10:08And I get a lot
10:10of criticisms
10:11that I'm an opportunist
10:13or I'm performative.
10:16But throughout
10:17this whole journey,
10:18I've just been trying
10:19to be enough for myself
10:21and enough for younger
10:23and enough for younger Bea
10:23who was proud
10:24to be Filipina
10:25and felt rejected
10:26by both Americans
10:28and both Filipinos
10:29at home.
10:30Why are you very
10:31emotional, Bea?
10:32I'm a very emotional person.
10:34My zodiac sign is Leo.
10:36Oh, okay.
10:36Especially about this one.
10:38Yeah.
10:38You seem to be very,
10:39very sensitive
10:39about this.
10:41Because I've fought
10:43so hard to carve out
10:44a place where I feel
10:46like I belong.
10:47And that's why
10:48winning the crown
10:49was so emotional.
10:50I've worked so hard
10:52to pick the Philippines
10:53as my home.
10:54And by winning this crown,
10:55I feel like
10:56the Philippines
10:57has finally picked me.
10:59Okay.
11:01But there are other issues.
11:04For example,
11:06if you were to answer
11:07the question right now,
11:08would you do it differently?
11:09I would draw more
11:11upon the work
11:12that I've already
11:13been doing
11:13for the Filipino people.
11:15I really expound
11:15upon that last statement
11:17that I promised
11:18to be a public servant
11:19for the Filipino people.
11:20A lot of people
11:21question that
11:21because how would you do that?
11:23How would you fulfill
11:24that promise
11:24of being a servant
11:26for all?
11:27For me,
11:29promises said
11:30are promises delivered.
11:31And I've outlined
11:32what I would want to do
11:33to help our OFW workers,
11:35to help our trans brothers
11:36and sisters,
11:37and to protect
11:38the environment.
11:39You can see me
11:40working on my hands
11:42and knees
11:42to protect our beloved
11:44Pawikan marine biodiversity
11:45here in the Philippines,
11:47being out on the streets
11:48marching for more fairness
11:50and transparency
11:51to make sure we know
11:52where our taxpayer money
11:53is going.
11:54Your environmental advocacy,
11:56yun ang dahilan kung
11:57bakit naroon ka
11:58sa trillion march
12:00ng mga rallies
12:00na ginanap last year.
12:02Tama?
12:02Yes, so my environmental
12:04advocacy is really
12:05intertwined with
12:06the trillion peso march
12:07because so much
12:09flood control money
12:10that should have
12:10gone to disaster
12:12resilience work.
12:13The very stuff
12:14that I address
12:15by handing out
12:16relief packages,
12:17by handing out aid
12:18in my home province
12:20of La Union
12:20after Typhoon Emong,
12:22that should have
12:23been coming
12:23from the government
12:24but instead
12:25it came from
12:25private institutions
12:26like Project Cormac.
12:27Okay, I get that.
12:28Did you get support
12:29from the government
12:31of La Union
12:31in this journey?
12:33Yes, yes.
12:34The government
12:35of La Union
12:35has been very supportive,
12:37especially
12:38the Department of Tourism
12:39because there's been
12:41this meme
12:42going around,
12:42oh, LU is overrated
12:44so hopefully
12:45we could work
12:46hand in hand
12:47to address that.
12:47But no one among them
12:48was involved
12:48in the flood control mess.
12:51Well, I would say
12:53that it's important
12:56that we work
12:57hand in hand
12:58with our government
12:59to really bring back
13:01public trust
13:01and accountability.
13:03Even with people
13:04who are suspected
13:05to have been involved
13:06in the mess.
13:07Yes, it's necessary
13:09that we are able
13:11to work hand in hand
13:13with everyone
13:14and that we're able
13:15to recognize
13:16that Cababayan,
13:17make mistakes
13:19and it's necessary
13:20to realize
13:21how far-stretching
13:23this scandal is.
13:24Okay.
13:25Do you speak
13:25Ilocano a bit?
13:27Mostly swear words
13:29from when my Lola
13:30would get a bit upset.
13:32There's always
13:32like,
13:33nagbastos
13:34and I know
13:35the basics
13:37like,
13:37naimbag-atigat.
13:39Okay, okay.
13:40You're learning.
13:41Keep learning.
13:42Okay, another
13:43controversy
13:44about Miss Universe Philippines.
13:46I, the host,
13:49Marina Summers.
13:50Yeah.
13:50Your take on the way
13:51she hosted the pageant.
13:53She was nothing
13:54but professional
13:55and really stuck
13:56to the script
13:57of what Miss Universe Philippines
13:59expected of her
14:00and I really wanted
14:02to take a moment
14:03to commend that
14:04this was such
14:04a history-defining moment
14:06because Miss Universe Philippines
14:08is not only
14:09a pageant,
14:10it's a cultural institution
14:12here in the Philippines
14:13and the fact
14:14that a trans woman
14:15was able to host
14:16with such beauty
14:16and grace
14:17should be celebrated.
14:18It's a celebration
14:19for all of our
14:20trans brothers
14:21and sisters
14:22especially for me
14:23as a proud younger sister
14:24of a trans older brother.
14:26Okay.
14:26I'd like to take
14:27this opportunity
14:28to also make my statement.
14:30I found
14:32Marina Summers good.
14:34Actually very good.
14:351 to 10
14:36I'd give her
14:37an 8.5
14:38I mean
14:381.5 short
14:39of being perfect.
14:40I like the idea
14:41that she did it
14:43the way she wanted
14:43to do it.
14:44Her energy
14:45was just right
14:45higher than
14:46Olivia Culpo
14:47the first time
14:48Olivia hosted
14:49Miss Universe.
14:50What I liked
14:51about her
14:52was
14:52she didn't fall
14:54into the trap
14:56of doing
14:57the hosting chore
14:59for Miss Universe Philippines
15:00the way
15:02others would
15:03have done it.
15:04I'm not saying
15:05that the way
15:05others do it
15:06is wrong.
15:07Pero
15:08ang napakaganda
15:08kay Marina
15:09para sa akin
15:09tamang energy
15:10tamang energy niya
15:12she didn't scream
15:14she didn't host it
15:15like a boxing match
15:16she didn't host it
15:17like a mixed martial arts
15:19championship
15:20she didn't host it
15:21like a game show
15:21she did it
15:22the way
15:23she wanted to do it.
15:24She did
15:25the Q&A
15:26very well
15:27and I just love
15:29the idea
15:30that a trans woman
15:32hosted
15:34Miss Universe
15:35Philippines
15:36that
15:36I agree with you
15:38that calls for
15:38a celebration
15:40so she did
15:41very well
15:41in my book
15:42and this is
15:43an opinion
15:43and what's good
15:44here is
15:45there are other opinions
15:45we have opinions
15:46let's not fight
15:48let's hear each other
15:49other more
15:50let's elevate
15:51this conversation
15:51into how
15:53things should be done
15:53pero
15:54hindi dahil
15:55sa hindi siya
15:56humigaw
15:56kasi may mga
15:57in previous video contest
15:59not just Miss Universe
16:00Philippines
16:01for example
16:01when you
16:02top 12
16:03you know
16:03you say
16:04okay let's start
16:05let's start
16:06announcing
16:07the top 12
16:08or top 10
16:10first in the top 10
16:11list is
16:12let's say
16:13number 16
16:14number 16
16:15you know
16:16it's okay to others
16:18marina
16:19decided to say
16:21raised her level
16:22of energy
16:23at number 16
16:25and I found it
16:27really interesting
16:28the other controversy
16:29was Ralph
16:30the young host
16:31Ralph De Leon
16:32who had
16:33some technical problems
16:34during the show
16:34inulit-ulit niya
16:36yung kanyang line
16:36were you aware of that?
16:38yeah so
16:39actually while
16:40that was all happening
16:41us on stage
16:42were kind of giggling
16:44because
16:45it's a bit unfortunate
16:46four times in a row
16:47the microphone
16:48doesn't work
16:49right
16:49but we also
16:51saw some reactions
16:52from Miss Universe
16:54Philippines
16:54organization as well
16:56and I just wanted
16:57to say
16:58from my vantage point
16:59on stage
17:00I saw that
17:01Mama J
17:01threw his phone
17:02on the table
17:03not at
17:05Misha
17:05RRM
17:06and he picked it
17:08up right away
17:08to check
17:09if it was broken
17:10and when I spoke
17:11to Misha too
17:12twice actually
17:13he did it
17:13but he didn't
17:14hit the guy
17:14in front of him
17:15I know Jonas
17:16I mean he's not violent
17:17yeah
17:17and Misha
17:18went to Boracay
17:20right after
17:21with the whole group
17:22and was being
17:23carried around
17:23by Mr. Supranational
17:25princess style
17:26so I think
17:27he's okay
17:28but I'll tell you
17:29something
17:29in that situation
17:31na ang gulo gulo
17:32there was a mess
17:33that was chaos
17:33happening
17:34for the CEOs
17:35of Pageant
17:36I think their behavior
17:37was
17:38warranted
17:39but syempre
17:39magagalit ka
17:40nagkakagulo
17:40there was a
17:41technical problem
17:42etc
17:42alam nga naman
17:44umiti ka pa
17:44and then your phone
17:45was not working
17:46because there was
17:46no signal
17:47so the way
17:48Jonas was reacting
17:49to me
17:49was
17:50you know
17:51how I would react
17:53I would have reacted
17:54the same way
17:54but to Ralph
17:55Ralph if you're watching
17:56do not allow
17:57that experience
17:58to define
17:59your capabilities
18:00as a host
18:02pero
18:02tip lamang
18:03sa mga host
18:04if you
18:05go through
18:05a technical
18:06problem
18:06like
18:07halimbawa
18:07apat
18:08a beses
18:08sinubukan mong
18:09ladies and gentlemen
18:10tonight
18:10tapos
18:11hindi mo
18:12naririnig ang
18:12sarili mo
18:13dahil may
18:14may problema
18:15pero naririnig ka
18:16sa labas
18:17a technical
18:17problem
18:18for a host
18:18is not
18:19supposed to be
18:21solved by the host
18:22it should be
18:22solved by the
18:23production
18:24by the technical
18:25people
18:25so yun lamang yun
18:27and I hope
18:28it doesn't
18:29discourage
18:30you know
18:30Ralph
18:31from going
18:32and pursuing
18:33a hosting
