00:30And this drill builds on a similar exercise held in Batanes in late April.
00:34The Philippine Defense Secretary and Japanese Defense Minister were both present, even snapping a selfie together.
00:41We do not canalize the area, but insofar as we have convergence with our like-minded partners,
00:50this is our share, and helping us to punch with our own weight in defending ourselves
01:01and to contributing to regional peace and stability.
01:04In addition to Japanese weaponry, the drills are also testing U.S. systems like MITES,

01:33especially in mobilizing the other commands affiliated with the Philippine armed forces.
01:45The exercise comes a day after drills involving the firing of a Tomahawk land-attack missile,
01:51which has the range to hit parts of the Taiwan Straits,
01:54and marks the first time the U.S. has used a Typhon launcher in the Philippines.
