Bharadvajasana, or Bharadvaja’s Twist (seated spinal twist pose), is a gentle yet effective Kapha balancing yoga asana that helps reduce heaviness and stagnation by wringing and awakening the spine, core and digestive organs.

This seated twist stretches and lengthens the entire spine, shoulders and hips while strengthening the core, making it excellent yoga for spinal flexibility, posture correction and relieving stiffness in the back and upper body that Kapha types often experience.

The twisting action massages the abdominal organs, liver, kidneys and intestines, stimulates peristalsis and agni, and supports detoxification—ideal yoga for digestion, constipation, bloating and sluggish metabolism in Kapha dosha.

Practised with steady, slightly energizing breathing, this Kapha pacifying seated twist lightens the body, improves circulation, and calms the mind without dullness, making Bharadvajasana a valuable addition to any Kapha balancing yoga sequence.
