The books of Craig Silvey will be removed from public schools in his home state of Western Australia after the best-selling author pleaded guilty to child exploitation offences.

00:01It's a chapter closed for Australian author Craig Sylvie, as his books are permanently
00:06pulled from public schools across Western Australia.
00:10The 43-year-old pled guilty to two charges of possessing and distributing child exploitation
00:16material.
00:18The move follows Australian publishers and bookstores who already stopped promoting his
00:23work, including his award-winning novel Jasper Jones, as well as Runt, Honey Bee, and Rhubarb.
00:29The father of three first charged in January, police raided his home in Fremantle and seized
00:35electronic devices.
00:37What we do know is publishers already stopped promoting his work earlier this year, including
00:41WA's Fremantle Press and Australian publisher Allen & Unwin.
00:46Some bookstores also pausing sales on his books here in WA.
00:51We also know plans to adapt Runt by a theatre in New South Wales has been paused indefinitely.
00:56Today, WA Education Minister Sabine Winton confirmed a temporary ban on Sylvie's books
01:03being used as texts in public schools will now be made permanent.
01:07Schools will also receive support to switch texts and adjust future lesson plans.
01:11His books, of course, have been popular with children and young adults, mostly featuring
01:16teenage protagonists.
01:18Sylvie had nothing to say to media as he left the Fremantle Magistrates Court yesterday.
01:23He has been released on bail and will return to the Perth District Court in July.
