13:27The Pistons with an early six-point lead here about midway through the first.
13:30Well, the league maybe isn't as big as it seems.
13:32Playing against your former teammates, facing your former coaches, it happens all the time.
13:37Tonight is no different.
13:38And, of course, J.B. Bickerstaff, head coach for the Detroit Pistons, was the former head coach of the Cleveland
13:43Cavaliers.
13:43I spoke with Donovan Mitchell, who was with J.B. during his time, and said, you know, he said, this
13:48gives the game such a unique feel, knowing your opponent a little bit deeper.
13:51But he said, I think you always have to have an appropriate fear of your opponent, especially when you have
13:56a history of them.
13:56He got deep, guys.
13:57He said, just because you know someone doesn't mean you really know them.
14:00He said they're a different team, we're a different team.
14:03And then, of course, we talked to head coach Kenny Atkinson, and he said at walkthrough yesterday, instead of just
14:07going straight into the game plan, he took a second to ask the guys, what do you think?
14:11I mean, they're all familiar with J.B., his coaching style.
14:13So many of them chimed in.
14:14And Coach Atkinson said he was just happy that what they had to say lined up with the game plan
14:18that he came up with.
14:19But he said it helps tremendously just to lean on the nuances of these connections that the guys obviously have
14:24with J.B. when he was with Cleveland.
14:26No question.
14:26And then on top of that, the extra layers that Dennis Schroeder now a part of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
14:30He was with the Pistons last year for that playoff run where they lost to the Knicks in six games
14:35in the first round.
14:36And so the added bonus of having maybe some extra institutional knowledge coming from Schroeder.
14:42As Duren goes right at Allen with those couple of early fouls, and the late blocking foul comes in.
14:47If this is Allen, that's going to be number three.
14:51A smart play there by Jalen Duren.
14:53And understanding and being aware, Allen with the fouls goes right at him, initiates the contact.
15:00And J.B. Allen's feet are not set there.
15:04Now, big decision here for Kenny Atkinson.
15:07So three fouls on Allen means Evan Mobley's back up off the bench.
15:10He's going to check in after the first free throw here from Duren.
15:13So Mobley in Allen, now how long do you have to keep him on the bench for?
15:17And he's been a rebounding machine these last two games.
15:21Averaging 18 and 13, he's been so impactful on both ends of the floor.
15:24And certainly with Evan Mobley at the five, Cleveland really going to have to rebound on the defensive end of
15:29the floor.
15:30Some more changes from Detroit as well.
15:33With Paris LeBert, who didn't play in that game seven against Orlando, is now in there for the first time.
15:40Along with Jenkins, Duren, Harrison, Thompson, Struis, Merrill, Harden, Mobley, and Wade are the five for Cleveland.

15:50Had a couple of really big moments in that third quarter in game seven.

15:59That defensive possession there is what J.B. Bickerstaff wants.
16:03Wants them to just, everything they do, be difficult on the offensive end of Cleveland.

17:18I'll tell you, this defense oppression, very similar to what Toronto did to Cleveland.
17:23Cleveland basically committed 17 turnovers the game.
17:28The most in the first round throughout all the playoffs.
17:30So, valuing each possession here in Detroit, a must for these Cavaliers.
17:36Well, and the Pistons, too, because they were right behind us.
17:38So, both these teams need to take care of the ball.
17:43Jenkins.
17:45remaining aggressive.
17:46Too strong, but a foul.
17:47And they're going to call the foul on the floor away from the shot.
17:50It was Struis who was battling on the glass.
17:53And I like how Detroit is just attacking the paint off the bounce.
17:58Multiple guys getting in there, putting pressure on the defense,
18:02and most importantly, drawing fouls.

18:07And you see, Jenkins tried to go to the free throw line,
18:09but finally they go, no, no, no.
18:10It wasn't him that was held.
18:12It's Isaiah Stewart who's going to get the two free throws.
18:16So, beef stew.
18:17He's 75%.
18:18Yeah, he's a good shooter.
18:19I'd be heated about that.
18:20Right, yeah.

19:50A little similar to some of the games we saw in the Toronto series where the offense is disjointed for

19:58And Cunningham is battered from the outside.

23:35You know, the matchup against Orlando, he had to be utilized differently.

23:56That Orlando matchup was a challenging one if you just place it position by position for the Pistons.
24:01Well, and on top of that, the resources they were throwing to slow down Duren.
24:05You know, there was nothing in the short roll.
24:07He really had to get a lot of his offense in transition, off the offensive glass.
24:13His field goal attempts were down by almost four a game.
24:16That's a pretty large number.
24:20Look at the discrepancy right now in free throw shooting.
24:23Detroit now 11 of 12 in this opening quarter.
24:26Cleveland has yet to get to the charity strike.
24:28They're three of nine from three.
24:30And just 7 of 21 overall, trailing by 17.
24:34Schroeder puts the head down.
24:36And he drops the contact right on cue.
24:38That's exactly what Kenny Atkinson loves.
24:40The little things, as he says.
24:42Understanding when, hey, we need to get to the free throw line right now.
24:44Find a way to get us some contact.
24:46Or we know that it's going to happen if you can get in the paint, collapse the defense.
24:50And that was what J.B. Bickerstaff was so worried about having coached him last year.
