00:13I feel like at this point you you still want Baldwin to catch a fair amount no like
00:20that that's the interesting part to me is even when you had Sean Murphy out they were still
00:26like three four times a week over the last couple weeks with with Drake Baldwin so I'd imagine yeah
00:32it's going to be kind of a split down the middle uh between catching and and uh the DH role

00:37both of them and you know what maybe that makes some sense because I mean Murphy's just been so
00:42injured coming off of that the hip issue and he's obviously had a few different issues over the
00:47last handful of years and and Drake Baldwin looks like a franchise cornerstone piece potentially
00:52here at 25 years old that you know I know people might be like oh well you can catch you
00:56know just
00:56let him catch all the time but this is a bat that you also really want to preserve and you
01:00don't want
01:01this kid to fade at the end of the season they also didn't catch all the time last year either
01:04so I feel
01:06like kind of a split down the middle with the two probably makes the most sense um and and it
01:12seems
01:12like that's the plan immediately shipping Jonah Heim out of town like they clearly want Murphy in there
01:16you know pretty regularly and I'm sure they love the way that he works with the staff it's also nice
01:22to shed Marcelo Zuna and it's not just nice because those who has been bad with the Pittsburgh Pirates
01:26but you had a clogger in the DH spot last year Dominic Smith that's not the case Dominic Smith had
01:33an amazing amazing start to the year but Dominic Smith is not like a aircraft carrier got to be in
01:40there every single day kind of guy Dominic Smith is someone that if he does need to sit on the
01:45bench for
01:45four straight days and he's starting to cool off a little bit by all means Walt Weiss can do that
01:49so Murphy is probably the better defensive catcher but you've got the young guy that you want to see
01:56progress in in Drake Baldwin it's just amazing that you can get both those bats in the lineup
02:00consistently the thing about Baldwin is he's always going to hit and provide value because what he does
02:06from and you laid this out a couple of weeks ago from a bat to ball and power perspective like
02:10that
02:10hybrid is really rare with Murphy he can he can run through stretches where he's not good at all
02:18offensively but you know that he's going to hold his own defensively and he's still going to provide
02:23either zero or net positive value I just see the catching thing is a bit more valuable with Murphy but
02:32you run into the I guess issue of age with Drake Baldwin where you can't just have him DH all
02:37the time
02:38exactly and it's funny you know I Murphy was a better defender I just went back to check it last
02:42year than than I remembered I mean and blocks above average he was a 94th percentile caught uh caught
02:48caught caught stealing above average geez I can't speak he was an 89th percentile framing 71st percentile
02:54pop time 80th percentile like so if he's grading out as a plus defender behind the dish the aggregate
02:59value that then you're getting from your catching tandem there is is huge so I I think that's the best
03:05foot forward yeah you're probably going to get better defense assuming you know Murphy's moving
03:09the same way that he was moving last year behind the dish um and you're you're going to get more
03:13offense uh from Drake Baldwin so this duo I I think really does help the team ultimately and um man

03:30month or so and then you know fortunately Ronald Acuna Jr. doesn't seem like he'll be out for too long
