00:02:46A man was riding a pogo stick down this mountain.
00:02:49Craziest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.
00:02:51This pogo guy, he bounced right down here, then took a left, and then he was out of our
00:02:57sight forever.
00:02:58But that absurd moment, it bonded us for life.
00:03:01Like, we felt like after that, we could get through anything together.

00:03:12So we became obsessed with this pogo man, right?

00:03:17And they all wanted to make a movie about it.
00:03:19But, I don't know, for me, it just never felt right.

00:03:24Because it was this incredible, surreal moment we experienced.
00:03:27And how could I do that justice?

00:03:52I answered his online ad looking for someone to shoot behind-the-scenes footage of a short
00:03:56film out in the desert.

00:04:07And he was about to lie to everyone else.
00:04:10Micah had three inseparable friends from film school.

00:04:22They also worked in front of and behind the camera.
00:04:26And the relationship on set grew into something much more intimate.

00:04:33Whenever they worked together as a team, they managed to balance out each other's idiosyncrasies.

00:04:53encounter with the Pogo Man up on the mountain.
00:04:56But Alice and Scott had an ugly professional falling out after graduating.
00:05:00He moved to Brooklyn to find his own way, and she took a corporate job back home in Minnesota.
00:05:06And Maggie landed a lucrative book deal soon after that.
00:05:09Micah didn't take her solo success very well.
00:05:13So she ended things and moved to Chicago.
00:05:16He was left alone in L.A. with no friends, no prospects, and a stack of unproduced scripts.

00:07:48Maggie, your first novel was a huge hit, but this was published almost four years ago.
00:07:52Did the unexpected success of this first book contribute to the delay in the publication of
00:07:57your second novel?
00:07:58Well, I'm a methodical writer, so the deal that I got was for three books, and I've been
00:08:03dipping into the subsequent ones at the same time.
00:08:06So three more books are coming out in the next few months?
00:08:09Is that right?
00:08:10Well, that's a question for my agent.
