00:00:00Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers Show, I'm your host Paul and in this video we're breaking down the boys.
00:00:08Episode 5 is now here and it's one of my favourite episodes ever.
00:00:12There's lots of big deaths, lots of big cameos and also lots of big cameo deaths.
00:00:17This episode ends with the death of Firecracker and also has the cinema goat Adam Burke who's no longer staying
00:00:23alive.
00:00:24Well done cancel culture, you finally won.
00:00:27Up yours woke moralists.
00:00:30At the centre of it though is Homie.
00:00:31Don't call me that.
00:00:32Or am I okay?
00:00:33We see as Homelander continues his search for V1 in his quest to become immortal.
00:00:37Here though we see those around him and how they react to him and basically get the lives of the
00:00:42Seven in a Pulp Fiction style story.
00:00:45This jumps around with lots of different characters and each story could have really been its own episode.
00:00:49Especially the boys version of this is the end.
00:00:52So there's a lot to get into and in this video we'll be breaking it all down.
00:00:55I do hope you enjoy it, I am dressed as Hughie.
00:00:58We went with a lazy costume this week but yeah thank you for clicking this.
00:01:01They can't all be bangers, I'm sorry.
00:01:07Now we open with an advert for the Democratic Church of America.
00:01:10It's reminiscent of the US patriotic adverts for Budweiser or the Bruce Springsteen Jeep advert.
00:01:15Or even the recent Mando Super Bowl advert that parodied them both.
00:01:19The advert though calls America God's Country which is something that it's sometimes referred to.
00:01:23It also calls Americans God's chosen people.
00:01:26That is a phrase that's used in the bible to refer to the Israelites aka Jewish people.
00:01:30But Vought's trying to push something different and the advert evokes this rural lifestyle which is seen as traditional and
00:01:36more religious than most of those from big cities.
00:01:39The advert ends with the tagline come home to Homelander and he's described as the greatest American ever.
00:01:45By layering the idea that Americans are the chosen people and Homelander is the best of the best of the
00:01:49best of them, it sets the groundwork for him being God.
00:01:53It's a roaring success so far as well with white men and women aged 36 to 54 and 55 to
00:01:5872 absolutely loving it.
00:01:59But yet this also highlights the church isn't appealing to the youth.
00:02:03Church attendance is up though as people move from their original church to this new megachurch, which we see the
00:02:08repercussions of later.
00:02:10Donations are also up as well with a click through rate at 44%.
00:02:14However as we learn later from Firecrackers former mentor, there's a franchise fee to convert your church to a democratic
00:02:20church of America.
00:02:21It's basically extortion and if you don't then your church will be vandalised.
00:02:24It shows how little Vault actually cares about respecting religion and for them it's more about extortion and the bottom
00:02:31line.
00:02:31It's all about money for Oh Father as well and he'll be out of the hole in no time with
00:02:35the amount of cash they're raking in.
00:02:37And everyone's seeing massive growth.
00:02:39I'm seeing massive growth myself.
00:02:41As we learn the rest of the seven don't believe it though and soldier boy just cracks jokes in the
00:02:45meeting.
00:02:46They're also gonna spend 500 million dollars on adverts which is something that could probably feed a lot of people.
00:02:51But this has nothing to do with religion and being kind, it's more about control.
00:02:56It's similar to how Henry VIII turned England Protestant simply so he could divorce his wife.
00:03:00We also of course have a lot of debate around this at the moment and people like Sean Hannity announcing
00:03:05that he no longer considers himself Catholic because of frictions between the white house and the pope.
00:03:10I know this was written before the election but I think that the church and state are always gonna clash
00:03:15over certain things so it's kind of a timeless message.
00:03:18I've actually also been rewatching and or recently and I saw Tony Gilroy talking about how some of it seemed
00:03:23very relevant even though it was written years ago.
00:03:25He said though that he looked through history and saw certain things that repeat and I think the boys has
00:03:30probably done something similar.
00:03:31Because again you could easily do this to like Henry VIII or something like that but it is also very
00:03:37relevant now as well.
00:03:38We then see that Vought has inserted Homelander into some of the most historic paintings of American history.
00:03:43The first one is the Emancipation Proclamation by A.A. Lamb.
00:03:46In the original it was the personification of America Columbia being dragged by the horses.
00:03:50The proclamation stated that all slaves and confederate states would be free now and forever.
00:03:56It was vital as it changed the civil war from a political one to a one of moral duty to
00:04:01end slavery.
00:04:02Here though Homelander's made it about himself and in the end he's enslaving all those around him.
00:04:07He wanted to be Caesar and a lot of the things that they're doing with America in the show is
00:04:11obviously clearly inspired by Rome.
00:04:13We then see Homelander inserted into the 1778 painting Watson and the Shock.
00:04:18Lastly Homelander's been inserted into the crossing of the Delaware and he's replaced George Washington.
00:04:23I also wonder if Vought is planning that when he becomes immortal that Homelander will just be seen as someone
00:04:28who was at all these events.
00:04:30It also says the saviour cometh but Homelander is still not happy as he's called a prophet.
00:04:35I think this episode in general is about the danger of following false prophets and how one shouldn't take the
00:04:41Lord's name in vain.
00:04:42Homelander calls the prophets servants and is adamant that they need to be honest and direct with the public.
00:04:47So he wants to be called Saviour or Lord with these of course both being what Jesus and God are
00:04:52referred to.
00:04:53These are suggested by Oh Father and as we see over the course of the episode he becomes Homelander's right
00:04:58hand man.
00:04:59Throughout the series we've seen there's been Stillwell, then Noir, then Firecracker and now Oh Father is the latest shiny
00:05:05plaything for the man baby Homelander.
00:05:07His ego must be stroked at all times and even with an entire company and country behind him spreading his
00:05:13gospel, he's still not happy.
00:05:15Oh Father even says religion is not about the meek but the bible actually states that they shall inherit the
00:05:20earth.
00:05:20Everything is all gonna come crashing down though and as Noir 2.0 said to the deep, no one is
00:05:25more important to Homelander than Homelander himself.
00:05:28Oh Father then references the seven mountain mandate as he says they should dominate the seven mountains of society.
00:05:34This is something that some Christians believe is key such as controlling education in the media.
00:05:39Homelander is essentially a Christian nationalist but he doesn't actually believe it.
00:05:43They're all just simply cashing in on people's beliefs because they believe that if they present beliefs that people believe
00:05:49in then people will support the corporation.
00:05:52We've seen this happen forever and ever and ever and you'll often see corporations push political identity beliefs and politics
00:05:59because they think the audience will align with them.
00:06:02But when push comes to shove and they're tested on it, they don't really stick by it.
00:06:06Looking at you Disney.
00:06:07Oh Father reveals he wants his ascension to coincide with Easter but Homelander clearly isn't down for it.
00:06:13He doesn't see himself as a second coming but something more.
00:06:17Firecracker is clearly delaying the reveal though as she's in a religious dilemma and she blames the production timelines of
00:06:23the Homelander Bible.
00:06:24This Bible is obviously inspired by the Trump Bible as it has the same flag image but it opts to
00:06:29have Homelander in a crucifix style pose.
00:06:31She calls it the book and seems to actually believe in Homelander and we can see a statue on the
00:06:36outside of the building.
00:06:37Soldier Boy is also shocked as he mouths what the fuck and he of course doesn't believe in any of
00:06:42this as any sane person would.
00:06:44But not only does this book have the Old and New Testaments but it also has a brand new American
00:06:48Testament.
00:06:49It's written by AI trained on the works of Pat Robinson who's a former religious writer famous for the 1991
00:06:54book The New World Order.
00:06:56She says they need to pass the torch from Jesus to him but that they can't rush it as they
00:07:00aren't an Arby's but are in fact at the Cheesecake Factory.
00:07:04And sorry I am British, is that like Miller and Carter and Greggs or something? I dunno.
00:07:09But she knows how to speak to him and get what he wants as his ego needs to be strucked.
00:07:14Sage reminds him that a sudden religious upheaval will lead to civil unrest even more so than what we've seen
00:07:19so far.
00:07:20Firecracker then mentions that the smaller areas will be okay with the police and local soups but major cities will
00:07:25need help.
00:07:26This leads Homelander to request that all soups be pulled back to America and he says they should be protecting
00:07:31the homeland first.
00:07:33It's very similar to the rhetoric of our country first sort of thing that you see a lot during politics.
00:07:38It's a sort of looking after our own thing which I know has been prevalent in British politics as well.
00:07:44This leads Ashley to break the news to Ukraine later which builds on Vought siding with Russia after soldier boys
00:07:50return.
00:07:51This is also funny as well as Vought spends so much time and effort trying to get soups into the
00:07:55military and now they're being brought back to quell the protestors at home.
00:07:58All that effort to make money and protect power is just gone at the whim of a childish erratic dude.
00:08:03We then see firecracker get her fried as someone from Daytona Florida calls her.
00:08:08It turns out to be her former mentor who is a victim of Homelander's new branding.
00:08:11So far our firecracker has mostly been one dimensional but we really get to see Valerie Curry flourish in this
00:08:18episode.
00:08:19Sadly it's also her last one but it's a great swan song that shows a pretty timeless message as well.
00:08:25Calling back to those and or parallels before we saw there how Deirdre was turned on in the end by
00:08:30the very system she helped build.
00:08:32Gilroy said that fascism always turns on its own and eventually firecracker meets a similar fate.
00:08:37Now again when they were asking Gilroy how have you came up with this stuff it was like well I
00:08:41just looked at history and this is what is something that constantly happens.
00:08:45So I feel like the same thing is happening there but yeah you can totally see how it applies to
00:08:49lots of things going on today.
00:08:50But here she meets up with her former reverend and she's trying to be low profile.
00:08:54It's the same thing Homelander did when he went to recruit Sister Sage and we saw him wearing a baseball
00:08:59cap just like firecrackers doing here.
00:09:01Now both these tutorial choices are inspired by the MCU. Their heroes always wear baseball caps when trying to be
00:09:07either undercover or on the run.
00:09:09When Sage recruited her she was this raw unfettered supposed voice of the voiceless but now she's this big city
00:09:15girl and no longer some country bumpkin.
00:09:18As they talk we can also see an advert for Sister Sage's Soul Sister.
00:09:21This shows that Vore is omnipresent which makes sense considering how it seems they somehow knew about this meeting and
00:09:28made her expose him as a punishment.
00:09:29In addition we can also see the last supper by Vicente Juan Massip to the right of the reverend.
00:09:35This is a depiction of Jesus' last meal with his disciples before being betrayed by Judas which then led to
00:09:40his arrest and subsequent crucifixion.
00:09:43Firecracker here is sharing a last moment with her mentor before she betrays him and is then killed by Homelander.
00:09:49This also looks like the same diner we saw Starlight reunite with Gecko during season 2.
00:09:54As they talk we then learn why she was so into religion as a kid.
00:09:56She had a very tough childhood by the sounds of it and was in the pageant circuit like Starlight.
00:10:01Her family were poor and this was the only way to a better life but Starlight then started a rumour
00:10:06that Firecracker slept her way to success with the judges.
00:10:09This then led Misty to drop out and become a right wing media influencer.
00:10:12The only safe place for her was at the church and her reverend who made sure she was fed.
00:10:17He held fish fried fridays as an act of kindness but Firecracker weaponises this to insinuate he abused kids.
00:10:23We see him being really really desperate here though as his church is losing attendees and being harassed by the
00:10:29local soups praying mantis.
00:10:31Praying Mantis shoots stuff out of his butt and he's just like Webb Weaver.
00:10:34Feels a lot like how Jews were persecuted during the holocaust, synagogues were smashed up, their businesses were vandalised and
00:10:41there was this constant threat that the walls were closing in.
00:10:44It's also just like some sort of protection racket where the reverend's church has to pay into this new church
00:10:49or they'll be harassed non stop.
00:10:51He asks his former mentee for help and even points to a turbo rush advert.
00:10:55As mentioned before Homelander has taken over the brand and we can see Firecracker with a petrol pump handle.
00:11:00So surely she can do something to help?
00:11:03Not really.
00:11:04Homelander hates being challenged and won't care about holdouts and would probably even make an example of them.
00:11:09Despite having a seat at the table, Firecracker's just as powerless and her former church can barely keep the lights
00:11:16on.
00:11:16This sums up Firecracker's entire character in general as she's not really got any superpowers and her only talent lies
00:11:22in pushing hate.
00:11:23But now she's created a monster that she can't control and ultimately falls victim to it.
00:11:28We see her slip into a rhetoric where she says God doesn't favour one country over another but it fails
00:11:34here.
00:11:34His words really affect her though as she's just in the middle of a religious crisis.
00:11:38She has a Jesus action figure which she throws away later on showing she has truly lost her way before
00:11:43her death.
00:11:44It also plays into that Judas metaphor and he casts away Jesus and his loyalty to him before ultimately succumbing
00:11:50to his fate.
00:11:50We then get a soldier boy busting a nut as the pair then have some pillow talk which leads to
00:11:55her death.
00:11:56In what's some amazing foreshadowing though, the eagle that ends up killing her is shown on the right of the
00:12:01screen.
00:12:01Like some sort of Chekhov's eagle.
00:12:03This is something that I feel might be referencing Psycho as their Norman Bates back room was filled with stuffed
00:12:08birds and the beaks of these symbolically represented Norman's knife.
00:12:12And a big breakdown of that on the channel now.
00:12:14They have the classic cigarette in bed after sex scene though and it's sort of, like sort of playing off
00:12:18the comics where Homelander shagged soldier boy but there they weren't related.
00:12:22But it was a similar scene in a way.
00:12:24Firecracker finally puts the stuff to their sex though and says they won't have sex again, which yeah, they won't
00:12:29as she dies on the evening.
00:12:31She then asks if he thinks that Homelander would go easy on her former reverend and he mentions that he
00:12:35was baptised in front of all of Chestnut Hill.
00:12:37Again this shows how he's the opposite of Steve Rogers as this area is a very rich part of Philadelphia.
00:12:44But soldier boy thinks the Homelander has got stuff is ridiculous and mentions how Joseph was a cock.
00:12:48Now though he sides with his son in this episode, it does sound like he might turn on Homelander later
00:12:53which does seem a possibility at least for a bit when Marathon and Malkal Michael basically wanna take him out.
00:13:00However he repeats this info back to his son later on as he has this weird sense of loyalty to
00:13:04Homelander due to him being his son.
00:13:06Even though he's kind of just cloned from his genetic material.
00:13:09But we see having to accept Homelander as the new god is complicated for the current religious people.
00:13:14Homelander wants people to accept him now but he has no idea of the internal dilemma that his flock faces.
00:13:20I also wonder how Marie's gonna be brought into it as she was sort of painted out as being like
00:13:25a christ-like figure in Gen B.
00:13:27Now we do hear that soldier boy is heading off to LA and I did wonder at first if this
00:13:31was like a west coast avengers thing.
00:13:33However we see how it's anything but but it lays the groundwork for what's gonna come.

00:14:47We then go to her trying to speak to her boss only to find out that old father is now
00:14:51the chosen one.
00:14:52He's in Homelander's room and the only time we've seen people in there without him they've either been trying to
00:14:56steal compound V or take a dump in his toilet.
00:14:59Oh Father is delivering breast milk for the soup though sourced from the followers of the new church.
00:15:03My guy is getting breast milk instead of the followers babies which is an app parallel between Homelander's selfishness and
00:15:09how a capitalistic society often starves the needy.
00:15:12Firecracker isn't too privy to Homelander's movements and activity though and it shows she's really being frozen out in favour
00:15:19of Oh Father.
00:15:20He's now giving Homelander milk which means that he's now replaced her as the milk provider and also someone who
00:15:26can give Homelander advice.
00:15:27Father then mentions that they are Peter and John bearing witness and spreading the gospel with those names being two
00:15:33of Jesus' apostles.
00:15:34There's definitely an uneasy feeling throughout the scene and this is a duel of words through four smiles.
00:15:39He's worked out that the printers are happy to rush the Homelander Bible to release in time for Easter and
00:15:44knows that she's stalling.
00:15:45He then presents himself as a warm shoulder and friendly ear and asks what she wants to talk to him
00:15:50about.
00:15:51Missy in general has been shown to be racist though so she's instantly distrustful and knows that Oh Father is
00:15:56just trying to screw her.
00:15:57We then cut to her in her dressing room which seems like it's playing off the scene at the start
00:16:01of the season where Annie dressed up as her.
00:16:03I always figured that Starlight would be the one to take her down but ultimately she's killed by her idol
00:16:08and something something about worshipping false idols.
00:16:11Homelander wants her to denounce her former church though and expose them as starlighters.
00:16:16Doing this would send the stronger statement and would probably force the rest of the holdouts to pay the franchise
00:16:21fee and accept the new church.
00:16:22The Reverend is also shown with a little girl and Firecracker says that the church has been infected with seditious
00:16:27starlight propaganda.
00:16:29The picture is partnered with Firecracker saying how the Reverend would regularly have her over for dinner alone.
00:16:34She then insinuates that while nothing happened to her, he could have taken advantage of other young girls.
00:16:39This is playing on the historical abuses by some church leaders such as the huge Boston cover up in Scandal.
00:16:45She then says she heard stories about his fish fry Fridays which were actually her haven from a bad childhood.
00:16:50I'm also sure she is kind of playing up her accent, a bit like me mate, a cockney governor.
00:16:56But let me know all your thoughts below cause she sounds like she's really leaning into it.
00:17:00For now though, Firecracker is just a useful idiot.
00:17:05She's a propaganda mouthpiece twisting a personal story so this all seems believable.
00:17:11Firecracker then says that fish fried Fridays sounds like a code for child grooming.
00:17:15Reminds me of the Pizzagate conspiracy theory and the coded language used in that.
00:17:20She has given up all her morals though and sheds a tear as she buries her mentor.
00:17:24All that power and money and it's just been used to promote a fake god.
00:17:28And she still dies in the end.
00:17:29She cries a tear here though and also cries another one at the end before dying having realised she's completely
00:17:35sold her soul.
00:17:36We then cut to Black Noirs story as the earlier meeting continues from another perspective.
00:17:41Soldier Boy acts like a total dick to the deep which yeah, Waka Man is a dick but this Soldier
00:17:46Boy is going back to his old behaviour.
00:17:48He abused his sidekick gunpowder and bullied Black Noir relentlessly.
00:17:52This is something that we saw in season 3 during animated flashbacks and basically he's doing the same thing.
00:17:57Soldier Boy then asks the deep if he wants knee pads to nosh him off and this joke gets repeated
00:18:02throughout.
00:18:02This is something calling back to that infamous scene though where Homelander told the deep to flay a train.
00:18:07But luckily the deep is saved by Homelander who says go easy on him as he brought in Stan Edgar.
00:18:12And god knows what would have happened if the deep didn't get that win.
00:18:16Noir is of course furious though because the deep screwed him over and we finally see where he's been going
00:18:21every afternoon.
00:18:22And that is to theatre school, yay!
00:18:25Yeah he's been secretly rehearsing for Adam Burks production of Vivint.
00:18:28It's a French word that means alive and fits in with the play story of the Bee Gees and their
00:18:33song Stayin Alive, Stayin Alive.
00:18:36The poster is even playing off the work they did for Saturday Night Fever and even the person in the
00:18:40middle is drawn doing that famous pose.
00:18:43Vivint is about staying alive as well and this is a dramatised account of the group arguing.
00:18:48They argue about the members of the team and this of course ironically plays into the tensions within the Seven.
00:18:53But Burk is trying to be a visionary genius and as we know musical biopics are very very popular.
00:18:59They had a resurgence with Bohemian Rhapsody, Elvis, A Complete Unknown, Springsteen and even the Michael movie recently.
00:19:10So yeah he's cashing in on that and we see Noir's playing Barry while his co-star here's Robin.
00:19:15Maurice is also mentioned and that's basically the members of the Bee Gees.
00:19:19But Noir's hiding who he is along with his powers however the other actor does look a bit scared when
00:19:24Noir leaps towards him.
00:19:25But as we see the secret soup is struggling with his character motivation which is something he also wrestled with
00:19:30with Noir.
00:19:31From his own experience he explains that narcissists are just insecure people and he's clearly pulling a lot from life.
00:19:36Comes across really well in this episode, it's nice getting to know him and I can understand why Sage did
00:19:42not need to self-lobotomise before banging him.
00:19:44As we see sadly he's finally met someone who understands his talent and drive to be the best actor too
00:19:49late.
00:19:50This is a huge change for Burk though who's usually the butt of the jokes and we see he's been
00:19:54insulted quite a lot throughout the series especially with Stormfront in season 2.
00:19:58He's typing up his actor here though as he did with Will Ferrell in season 4.
00:20:01We also saw him being slapped by his assistant after Homelander and Ryan threatened him and he's kinda stepped out
00:20:06of the limelight and gone back to theatre.
00:20:08Noir is then told to stop acting and be himself on stage and the soup explains that the scene hits
00:20:13close to home as it reminds him of the Deep.
00:20:16Funnily enough, Burk also hated the Deep while working on Dawn of the Seven.
00:20:19It made a billion dollars but Burk's constant Weinstein like behaviour led to him being sent to Godolken and now
00:20:25here.
00:20:26Apparently on Dawn of the Seven though the Deep would constantly try and upstage the rest of the cast with
00:20:30his improv and Burk calls him a Jared Leto level baby bitch.
00:20:33Leto is known for doing some weird stuff on set and I've heard some stuff in the industry, some stories
00:20:40from people who've worked on films with him and they clearly put this line in for a reason is what
00:20:46I'll say.
00:20:46Burk then inspires him to upstage the Deep which is what we get next at the manhandled podcast.
00:20:51Oh Father doesn't seem to be too thrilled about being on it and he says that they need to meet
00:20:56young men where they are.
00:20:57We have seen how influential this podcast is on kids with Mason last week and it's similar to real life
00:21:02as well.
00:21:03The podcast circuit has become a big place to sway people and the last presidential election campaign leaned heavily into
00:21:09using them.
00:21:10After the election many were asking where the Joe Rogan of the left was and should Kamala have met young
00:21:15men where they are.
00:21:16This also mirrors religion being a growing part of the Manosphere space. The Deep then says he has some ideas
00:21:21for elevating the new church but he just has stupid stuff like better tasting wafers and commandments to not bang
00:21:28another dudes girl.
00:21:29Which yeah already exists broseph. Thou shall not covet.
00:21:33Black Noir then shocks Oh Father by speaking. He says the Deep can't be trusted and that he latches onto
00:21:38every new member of the Seven.
00:21:39We saw it with Annie, all the stuff for the Church of the Collective, Noir and Sage and the guy
00:21:45is just a fucking leech.
00:21:46The smell on his breath is because he's been clam diving. On clams.
00:21:50What?
00:21:51Noir then comes out with a genius idea for a Homelander miracle. He says that Homelander could heal him and
00:21:56get his voice back.
00:21:57Not only does this mean that he'd be able to speak and take the mask off finally but he could
00:22:01also finally have a bit more to work with his Black Noir.
00:22:04Also kinda got flashes of Kane in WWE cause like at one point they said he had to wear a
00:22:09mask at all times cause he was so badly burned and then the next year they're like nah he's good
00:22:14mate he just got a dodgy eye.
00:22:16But I remember.
00:22:17But this path was something that the original Noir wanted.
00:22:20We saw in season 3 how Stan explained that a Black member of Payback wouldn't sell in the Deep South
00:22:24and if he unmasked he'd be sent to Minneapolis.
00:22:27So we could see Noir finally getting his wish later on. All in the form of his successor.
00:22:31Noir also says he can fly but he's had to hide it because the last one couldn't.
00:22:36Now this is sort of an odd to the comics as Noir could fly as well but he was instructed
00:22:40not to buy the higher ups.
00:22:42This would have given away he was a certain character that I still refuse to spoil in these parts of
00:22:47the videos cause people might not wanna know.
00:22:50And this ain't the heavy spoiler show mate we keep things shtum here.
00:22:54I'm renaming the channel Screen Crush or something.
00:22:57Black Noir here has got a new pep in his step as he arrives at rehearsal but we see as
00:23:02the Deep is following him wearing a douchey jacket.
00:23:05Burke the name drops Paul Rudd being a dick which I haven't heard and he mentions training a train being
00:23:09shelved.
00:23:10This is something that we learned at the end of season 4 and it felt like a reference to Batgirl.
00:23:14Burke then turned to drugs but he was saved by this play and it's going so well it's actually going
00:23:19to Broadway.
00:23:19But both of them are on their way up but what else is on it's way up is the eel
00:23:25that goes up into his arse.
00:23:27Yes Burke is killed in the toilets and he says fucking Tony Gilroy.
00:23:31That director was brought in to reshoot lots of Dawn of the Seven much in the same way he was
00:23:35brought in to fix Rogue One.
00:23:36This was mentioned by Ashley in season 3 also in a cubicle interestingly enough.
00:23:41The Deep like Homelander though is just a childish idiot and he gets revenge on Noir by killing him.
00:23:46Also love how we think we're getting some profound last words but he just says that his ass hurts.
00:23:51The Deep has finally gone too far though but there's nothing that Noir can really do to stop him.
00:23:56However I do think come the end of the season that he may try and kill The Deep but probably
00:24:01fail to do it.
00:24:02I feel like The Deep might be the only one who survives this whole thing and in the comics he
00:24:06was actually the only baddie soup left standing.
00:24:08We then go to him next as he's reading a Vaxx and Vaxx book by RFK Junior because yeah you
00:24:13get the subtext there may you pay attention to the news.
00:24:17And are you sure this was written before the election?
00:24:19Either way Noir is furious at The Deep killed his best friend and is one way out of the prison
00:24:24he's found himself in.
00:24:25Deep then references his improv not being used for Dawn of the Seven and he did have a grudge with
00:24:30Burke as well.
00:24:31Noir is now under the deepest thumb though as Homelander would be furious if he found out about the play.
00:24:36Homelander has even banned the National Endowment for the Arts which is an idea that's also been floated recently.
00:24:41You will see this as something that happens a lot throughout history with certain songs, plays, art pieces and so
00:24:47on being banned by governments.
00:24:49We even get it like sometimes when we put like a certain song in a James Bond video and it'll
00:24:54pop up like this video is banned in Russia.
00:24:57Fascist societies have done this throughout time because banning art can stop independent thought, dissidence and move people away from
00:25:04just seeing the propaganda.
00:25:06The Deep then brings up the miser technique when Noir has nothing to say to him and this is him
00:25:10throwing a jab at his method acting.
00:25:12We then get to Homelander or more specifically Terra dreaming about Homelander.
00:25:16It's a scene that has amazing meme potential in a season that's already producing some of the funniest memes yet.
00:25:21Terra is dreaming of boning the character which is something he does to his Homelander toy.
00:25:26Butcher actually gave Terra this toy in episode 5 of season 2 and we saw this toy also mentioned in
00:25:31season 1.
00:25:32In the comics you regularly humped other dogs which is something that Ryan mentioned in episode 3.
00:25:37Terra also hated Homelander in the comics and we saw him growl out the soup during issue 19 and he
00:25:42even pissed on his leg at one point.
00:25:44But this one shot story follows Terra almost dying due to ingesting chocolate.
00:25:48It's possibly inspired by the comics where Terra was killed by one of the seven which Billy thought was Jack
00:25:53from Jupiter.
00:25:54Sadly the dog who played Terra in season 2 passed away but they did manage to recast and I have
00:25:59to say didn't notice myself.
00:26:01But yeah losing a dog is fucking shit.
00:26:03But yeah Kimiko and Huey come in and feed him and Kimiko talks about the steak and how Frenchy doesn't
00:26:08really do it the way she likes.
00:26:09She says she's told Frenchy how she likes it though and says maybe they just don't like the same steak.
00:26:15Now this continues on from last week where they seemingly broke up and she said she didn't want to change
00:26:19him and basically showed their relationship was falling apart.
00:26:24Sadly I don't see them having a happy ending and I do think that it could potentially be like what
00:26:30happens in the comics.
00:26:31Mother's Milk also mentioned Romeo and Juliet and it does seem like their relationship is gonna end in tragedy.
00:26:36They then find Terra's fuck toy and propose washing it which is something Billy stops them from doing.
00:26:42Terra though follows the squeaking and we see Billy rolling in a load of equipment for a secret project with
00:26:47Frenchy.
00:26:47We mentioned last week that Billy saw the Uranium hurt Homelander and the soup barely escaped the chamber.
00:26:53It looks like Billy has stolen loads of parts from Fort Harmony as you can see the tiny Volt American
00:26:57logo on the device with the dial.
00:26:58Because of this I do wonder if they plan to lure Homelander out, lock him up and combine both the
00:27:04virus and Uranium.
00:27:05Even if Homelander gets the V1 I do think this could work together as Soldier Boy was almost taken out
00:27:10by the virus so some Uranium on top of that should push him over the brink.
00:27:14They're also tracking bombsite just like Soldier Boy in Homelander.
00:27:18He must be hiding somewhere and Billy suggests asking the legend.
00:27:21We last saw him during season 3 and there he was played by the legendary Paul Reiser.
00:27:26In the comics the character was inspired by Stan Lee and helped to create the fake stories for each of
00:27:30Vords Supes.
00:27:31Interestingly we also learn that he's gone off the grid.
00:27:34He knows every dirty secret Vord has, possibly even more so than Stan Edgar.
00:27:39So he's also in hiding but should make an appearance hopefully down the line.
00:27:43At least I hope yeah cause I always loved the legend in the comics and I think the updated version
00:27:48was a great character as well.
00:27:50Now at this point Terra almost eats some chocolate which I'm sure we all know is toxic to dogs.
00:27:55I remember mine ate a big box of Maltesers once and I freaked the fuck out.
00:27:59But it was fine, it was fine in the end but still there was a couple of hours I was
00:28:03panicking.
00:28:04But we see his mother's milks change as he's ok eating stuff off the floor and feels better now that
00:28:09he's accepted he's going to die.
00:28:10We have seen him drinking out the toilet before and it seems like the guy just doesn't give a fuck
00:28:15anymore.
00:28:16Now this epiphany came to him when he realised that Soldier Boy is immune and immortal.
00:28:20He's been trying to take him out his whole life and just doesn't see the point when the guy seemingly
00:28:25can't be killed.
00:28:26He also accepts that his wife and daughter are better off without him.
00:28:29Milk says that if he thinks there's a chance he'll see them again then he'll be too scared to do
00:28:33what he needs to to end this for good.
00:28:35Billy at this point then seemingly starts to realise the effect he's had on others.
00:28:39Even Mothers Milk has lost his faith in life and is ready to sacrifice himself.
00:28:44It's partly why later on he agrees to give Annie and Kimiko the V1 if they get the chance.
00:28:48I do wonder what's gonna happen with Milk though and whether they'll go the way of the comics or not.
00:28:53But right now he's at least accepted death and will go in without fear or hesitation because of this.
00:28:58It's a great performance by Laz Alonso and probably the most emotional we've seen him this season.
00:29:03Mothers Milk is also wearing a Naughty by Nature shirt and if you're wondering if I'm down with OPP...
00:29:10Yeah, you know me.
00:29:11But he's ready to die fighting Vaud much in the same way his dad did before him.
00:29:16Tara then wanders off and I love how he gets sort of black and white muted colours for the dog
00:29:19vision.
00:29:20He then sees Frenchie who says he made Kimiko the perfect french ribeye.
00:29:24He has no idea she hates it which shows how oblivious he is to what she likes indicating how different
00:29:29they are.
00:29:30This just adds into the one shot nature of the episode and at the time of recording this that is
00:29:35also the title.
00:29:36One shot is of course based around one shot comics which are stories that are like one shots and obviously
00:29:42you know the terms used in like TV episodes as well.
00:29:45But Frenchie is confused as to why Kimiko wants a dog and he says she deserves peace.
00:29:49Which did make me a bit worried that he might sacrifice himself for her.
00:29:53He then says that he can't give her what she deserves and that he's ruined his souffle.
00:29:58Come on man, don't worry mates, it's pretty hard to get right.
00:30:01Tara then sees it in the bin though and like every dog, they see food, they eat the food.
00:30:06Meanwhile Hugh and Billy are arguing over using the V1 as a cure for Annie and Kimiko.
00:30:10Like the comics, Billy doesn't want any soups left alive as he sees them as being inherently bad for the
00:30:15world and to be fair I can see why.
00:30:17But Annie and Kimiko have proven that they want the world to be safe for humanity.
00:30:22But as Edgar said in episode 3, Vought will always win.
00:30:25They can just rebrand and return with a newly packaged 7 as there's always profit to be made.
00:30:31Billy then says that he's always been right and asks Hughie if he can accept the risk of Homelander becoming
00:30:36a god and killing like one as well.
00:30:38Hughie then brings up Becca asking if he let her die to which Butcher replies saying that he did.
00:30:43Now this isn't necessarily true as Becca wanted to stay and protect Ryan from Vought's influence.
00:30:48She thought she could give him a proper upbringing which isn't something Homelander had.
00:30:52Billy still feels he failed though and Hughie's asking for the others to get a chance at surviving.
00:30:57It's put on hold when they realise Tara's eaten the whole souffle but I do feel like this conversation kind
00:31:02of pains out where things are gonna go.
00:31:04Anyway, Butcher blames Frenchie and asks for some hydrogen peroxide to make Tara throw up.
00:31:09Hughie then asks the hero as always and feeds him the stuff to make him sick.
00:31:13Luckily he survives, unlike the comic book version, and dreams of Homelander are giving him some turkey.
00:31:19Billy has also been watching over him as well and is reading The Spy Who Came In From The Cold.
00:31:23That follows the spy who's pretending to defect in the cold war.
00:31:26It paints both the east and west spy institutions as immoral and willing to do awful things for what they
00:31:32see as the greater good.
00:31:33It's very similar to Billy's mission and how he'll do bad things for what he sees as right.
00:31:38Tara then wakes up and we can see Billy's soft side again.
00:31:45Now I'm gonna be completely honest but I think Butcher has gone way too nihilistic recently and it's just nice
00:31:52seeing the softer side to him cause you do wonder why people would even follow him when he's constantly a
00:31:57dickhead.
00:31:57No idea what happened to Geoffrey Dean Morgan still.
00:32:00But he thanks Hughie who's wearing a Hall & Oates t-shirt for the song Rich Girl and we can
00:32:04also see a mural of Sister Sage behind him.
00:32:06This shows her reading which makes sense considering her power set.
00:32:09Butcher then has a change of heart inspired by this moment and seeing Lenny's trophy from the magic show.
00:32:14In the comics Hughie is constantly compared to Lenny and he's the one person he couldn't save.
00:32:20So Butcher doing this is him trying to make amends and show he's not the monster his father was.
00:32:25I think the brush with death with Tara has made him realise he needs to look after those close to
00:32:29him and show how much he loves those around him while he still can.
00:32:32There's also a lot of books on the shelf. Sadly I can only make one out by Kenneth Oppel which
00:32:37appears to be silver wing.
00:32:38Billy then says that if it doesn't mess up their plans to kill Homelander they can use some V1 to
00:32:42cure Kimiko and Annie.
00:32:44However, he will not keep any for himself. My guy is on a one way path to death and as
00:32:49they say, when you go out for revenge you should dig two graves.
00:32:53He then goes back to his hard nut self when he asks Hughie what he's looking at.
00:32:57Tara then goes back to his usual ways as well and we cut back to them meeting again for the
00:33:01Sister Sage story.
00:33:02They're pulling troops out of the Middle East and obviously there's a constant military presence there which is still something
00:33:07we see debated all the time today.
00:33:09Sage then enters the lift and Soldier Boy holds the door so he can get in. Behind him there's also
00:33:14a poster of Translucent.
00:33:16Kind of reminding you of how many have fallen.
00:33:18Soldier Boy is heading to crime analytics and Sage manipulates him again.
00:33:22She says how the meeting was thrilling and Soldier Boy drops Bob Giconi, the founder of Penthouse magazine which I
00:33:29fucked up the name of.
00:33:30But Sage says it will be more exciting when Homelander is immortal.
00:33:33She's playing to his hatred of his son which is something I think she may be miscalculating.
00:33:38While he doesn't want Homelander to be immortal as we see in this episode, he's still protective of his son.
00:33:43Soldier Boy then heads off to interrogate Stan Edgar which we see later and we finally learn what Sister Sage's
00:33:48endgame is.
00:33:49Which I never expected to be the plot of a Twilight Zone episode.
00:33:53Sage is looking over plans for what I think is the Colorado Springs bunker that she mentions later and funnily
00:33:59enough,
00:33:59her mural in the school has her holding blueprints.
00:34:02She's then interrupted by a furious Ashley who's being suffocated by her secret service detail.
00:34:07And she even shouts out one called Garth which I feel is a reference to the boys crater Garth Ennis.
00:34:12She's furious though as she almost made it so that VNN was the only network with a broadcast license.
00:34:18After Sage explains what Homelander wants, she speaks to a Ukrainian official and says maybe they shouldn't have been invaded.
00:34:24And basically victim blames them saying that they may as well have been wearing a short skirt.
00:34:29Ashley is turning into a panic though as she explains that the markets are in free fall and that Vought's
00:34:33stock is tanking but Sage doesn't care at all.
00:34:37That's because she doesn't want a world where markets are important and wants to change things because right now it's
00:34:42always what the man wants.
00:34:44They then share a drink and Ashley describes a story that many of us fully expect to happen behind closed
00:34:49doors.
00:34:49She says that the Swiss Chancellor suggests racing their Gulfstream jets at the climate change conference.
00:34:55How dare you!
00:34:56Which I do think probably happens.
00:34:58She also says lols and you are never beating those millennial allegations.
00:35:03Sage then goes to ask the back of her head what Homelander is doing.
00:35:06Ashley too says that Homelander is looking for V1 and Sage needs her to read Soldier Boy's mind.
00:35:11It's a dangerous plan as it means going against Homelander which is something Ashley has seen first hand always ends
00:35:17in a bloody death.
00:35:18The Ashley on the back of her head is pre corporate Ashley and she recites their tramp stamp words the
00:35:23only prison is fear.
00:35:24Fear is the mind killer as they say which makes you unable to act and shuts down your ability to
00:35:30do things as we learned in June over here.
00:35:33Main Ashley refuses to help but Sage manages to get her to stay and have a drink with her.
00:35:37The pair then polish off the decanter and get pretty drunk.
00:35:40Sage wants a chalupa while Ashley wants to call her ex.
00:35:43This then leads to the pair talking about their family.
00:35:46Ashley says that her mum died of cancer and Sage says that her grandmother died of the illness too.
00:35:50It's a backstory that Sage mentioned a new man at Tech Nights mention and though she managed to cure cancer
00:35:55she wasn't allowed to do anything about it.
00:35:58Ashley's mother was apparently tiny and scary and went so far as to reveal an affair to get revenge on
00:36:02her daughters bully.
00:36:04As we know Sage's parents also gave her V and they did this because they thought it would be their
00:36:10meal ticket.
00:36:11However she says that being smart is the worst superpower as having a three year old correcting your grammar gets
00:36:16very very annoying.
00:36:18She basically shut down all their plans and made them realise their life dream yogurt shop was bound to fail.
00:36:24But as we see Sage is still upset over her death and Ashley wants to be like her mother.
00:36:29She then realises that Sage baited her and Sage finally reveals exactly what her end game is.
00:36:34It really is as simple as what she said to Newman when she said fuck them all.
00:36:38Helping Homelander and getting him to a position of power is phase one while phase two is causing a soup
00:36:44slash human civil war.
00:36:46They will wipe out each other using their powers and also the power of the virus.
00:36:50She will then wait this out in her bunker and once everyone's dead she can read as much as she
00:36:55wants some peace.
00:36:56Now if you watch the channel in some of our more niche videos you'll possibly have seen me talking about
00:37:01how when I was in university
00:37:02I basically downloaded every Twilight Zone episode ever and binge watched them all.
00:37:07That was like my thing.
00:37:09And this plan is just like the episode time enough at last.
00:37:12This followed a guy called Henry Beamers who was obsessed with reading so much so his boss and wife would
00:37:18get angry with him.
00:37:19One day he then decides to enjoy his lunch break in a bank vault.
00:37:23Now while he's inside a hydrogen bomb goes off and basically annihilates everything and everyone.
00:37:29Whew sounds bad but he sees that every cloud is the silver lining and realises that he finally has time
00:37:36to read.
00:37:36Thus he heads to the library to live out his days doing the thing he loves.
00:37:40Tragedy strikes though as his glasses break and he's now alone with books he can't read.
00:37:46It's probably one of the most famous episodes of all time that's up there with horror at 37,000 feet.
00:37:52There's something on the wing.
00:37:53Some.
00:37:54Thing.
00:37:55Like Beamers I imagine Sages plan to live out her life reading may end up in a cruel twist of
00:38:00fate.
00:38:00Maybe she will lose her eyes or something and that would kind of play into how I think the symbol
00:38:05on her costume there it is an eye or at least it looks like one.
00:38:08But her main aim is to make sure that Homelander dies and Sage invites both Ashly's to her bunker.
00:38:13I love how their expectations are shattered in this moment as well as Ashly thinks there's an out but there's
00:38:18always someone who's even more evil in cutting out there.
00:38:21It's why Billy is partly right in wanting all the Supes gone as this will never ever end with Homelander.
00:38:27There will always be a chance that the Supes will be a danger to humanity.
00:38:30Personally I can also see Stan Nedga somehow surviving all of this and leading a rebranded Vort especially as we
00:38:37have The Boys Mexico coming out starring Diego Luna.
00:38:41Which is another Andor reference.
00:38:42We then end with a great shot of Sage standing below the mural of Homelander placing them at opposite ends.
00:38:48Sage is basically the woman who threw a stone at God and brought everything crashing down.
00:38:53She is on the ground while he's above her in the air almost like the creation of Adam painting.
00:38:57But the way it's framed it makes her appear like Sage has turned her back on him and thus has
00:39:03turned her back on God.
00:39:04Which is such a good shot.
00:39:05We then cut at the final story of the episode and man did they save the best till last.
00:39:10It's one that I'd have loved to have seen a full episode on if we weren't in the final season
00:39:15cause yeah, banger after banger line.
00:39:17Now we see as Soulja Boy stands up and hears some Captain America music that fades out hinting this Supes
00:39:23knows Steve Rogers.
00:39:28Soulja Boy then mentions that Homelander is pissy and asks about Stan Edgar.
00:39:32Soulja Boy hasn't seen him since Nicawagra and he was the one who basically organised Payback's mutiny and had Soulja
00:39:39Boy sent off to the Russians.
00:39:40Soulja Boy mentions how he was the one who fetched his cocaine and he can't believe that he's now in
00:39:45this position of power.
00:39:48So now he's going to interrogate his former fort contact.
00:39:51However Homelander doesn't trust him but this is his only chance to get V1.
00:39:55We see that Stan is being held in the same prison that Maeve was at during Season 3 as well
00:40:00as Webweaver in Season 4.
00:40:02He's been made to wear the same outfit as the Freedom Cam inmates but Homelander wants to keep Edgar close.
00:40:07I do wonder as well if they'll even play into how Soulja Boy liberated concentration camps in the forties and
00:40:13now his son is off running these freedom camps.
00:40:17But who doesn't love freedom and who doesn't love camps?
00:40:20I do feel like he would not at this point but hey, him getting this information might be a curveball
00:40:25for the show.
00:40:26But Soulja Boy brings up the betrayal and Stan assures him it was nothing personal, just business.
00:40:31Stan is very cold so I believe it but I bet deep down he was happy that Soulja Boy was
00:40:37Winter Soulja.
00:40:38As he says they had his replacement model ready to go which showed more promise than Soulja Boy ever did.
00:40:43As he notes though, it amounted to nothing.
00:40:46Homelander is just as awful as his dad.
00:40:49Again it's a wildly different as Steve Rogers and in the first Avenger he was the weakest and smallest of
00:40:54the selection group for the Super Soldier Serum.
00:40:56However, he had heart and a sense of doing the right thing and hitting the thumbs up.
00:41:01That's why he didn't turn into a massive knobhead like Soulja Boy.
00:41:05Homelander just doesn't get it though and says that his power is absolute.
00:41:09Soulja Boy used his fame to have orgies and do drugs while Homelander just uses it to scare and control
00:41:14people.
00:41:14This is just like the comic when Homelander met with Edgar's comic counterpart James Stilwell.
00:41:19The show created two characters out of him with Madeline and Stan.
00:41:23The former was the person who oversaw the Seven like the comics while Stan had the cold, calculating company man
00:41:28persona.
00:41:29In the comics, Stilwell was completely unimpressed with Homelander and over time the suit believed that those with powers shouldn't
00:41:36be controlled by the company or even the US government.
00:41:39Stilwell constantly put him in his place though which led to Homelander leading a coup.
00:41:43Edgar then says...
00:41:51...which is lifted directly from the comic.
00:41:54Like there, Homelander doesn't kill Edgar which the former CEO puts down to the Supes desperation for daddy figures.
00:42:00In the comics, Stilwell also asks to be killed as well as he's so bored with Homelander's cringy bullshit.
00:42:06In the show, Homelander asks Stan if he wants to die and we see that Edgar becomes a little bit
00:42:11scared.
00:42:11This is different in the comics though where Stilwell's face doesn't change whatsoever and he's completely nonchalant.
00:42:17Luckily for his son though, Soldier Boy actually has a brain he can use.
00:42:21He mentioned earlier about going to crime analytics and he says that he went there to track down Zoe and
00:42:25her father.
00:42:26So finally there's some leverage over Stan but he doesn't know where the V1 is.
00:42:31Instead he points them in the direction of Mr Marathon who is somewhat of a vault history buff.
00:42:36He also jokes that it should be a delightful reunion and yet we do get that as there's lots of
00:42:42supernatural cast members.
00:42:44But yeah in the comics Mr Marathon was a member of the Seven and he was featured in the 9
00:42:47-11 flashback.
00:42:49There the Seven went to stop a plane hijacking only for it to go completely wrong just like the show.
00:42:54As he couldn't fly he was also carried along with Black Noir who again could secretly do it.
00:42:59Marathon was then killed after Homelander flew into the plane.
00:43:02Now in the show he was on the Seven but A-Train took his spot after Mr Marathon slowed down.
00:43:07It also sounds like this happened as he lost a race.
00:43:10This mirrors A-Train's race against Shockwave in season 1 and there A-Train's spot was in jeopardy and thus
00:43:16he abused Compound V.
00:43:17This led to him winning but the V affected his heart.
00:43:20We then cut to LA and hear Hooray for Hollywood by Rosemary Clooney and that was from the movie Hollywood
00:43:27Hotel.
00:43:27It juxtaposes the visuals of homeless people sleeping on the floor and tent cities everywhere.
00:43:33Now despite living in LA Mr Marathon is washed and even has to deal drugs to get by.
00:43:38His fancy life is all a facade just like the Hollywood dream.
00:43:41We then arrive at his mansion and see a painting of him in his costume.
00:43:44It's just like the comics where he was based on the first Flash Jay Garrick though he looks
00:43:48a bit different in colour to his appearance on the poster for Dawn of the Seven.
00:43:52Mr Marathon is played by Jared Padalecki who was of course Jensen Ackles co-star on Supernatural.
00:43:58Marathon says that he's a huge fan of Soldier Boy even saying he lost his virginity in his underoos.
00:44:03This is a term I'd never actually heard of until Tony Stark called Spider-Man underoos in Civil War
00:44:09and all my knowledge is built from Marvel movies.
00:44:12Homelander then says,
00:44:13Well you're only the world's fastest man as long as you're the world's fastest man champ
00:44:17and you got slow.
00:44:18Which reminds me of what Shockwave said before his race.
00:44:21The A train is a fierce competitor but no one can be the world's fastest man forever.
00:44:25We also see a few productions that Marathon has been in since leaving the Seven.
00:44:29We get a hilarious joke though that these are not official bought pictures.
00:44:33Instead they're produced by Sony who are the studio behind the show and it reminded me of
00:44:37when the Simpsons constantly poked fun at Fox.
00:44:43Kripke in general is making fun of the Sony picture movies and Marathon says that they can't reference the VCU
00:44:49which is something that Sony Pictures also has issues with when it comes to Marvel.
00:44:53They've made numerous Spider-Man less Spider-Man movies and then even had to lie in trailers and stuff to
00:44:58make it seem like it was all connected.
00:45:00Just a great line and while it's a jab at stuff like Madame Web and that couldn't use Spider-Man,
00:45:05it's also a jab at the wider rights issue that connected universes face.
00:45:09The Netflix Marvel shows couldn't reference the MCU which was at the height of its success
00:45:13and even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could only really name drop events here and there as
00:45:17it got deeper into its run.
00:45:19Feige clashed with Jeff Loeb and then Feige came out and was like we're gonna do our own Marvel shows
00:45:24on Disney Plus.
00:45:25They'll be the real Marvel shows.
00:45:27And yet we saw how most of them turned out.
00:45:30And Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. clears them all if you ask me.
00:45:34Now we then see a poster for Marathon of the Heart.
00:45:36It's one of those terrible hallmark of lifetime movies and his co-stars Michaela Starr who is actually a producer
00:45:42on the show.
00:45:43We then see Mr Marathon around the speedyverse which is a clear parody of into and across the spiderverse.
00:45:48He's even sitting on top of a traffic light similar to how Miles Morales sits on high buildings in those
00:45:52movies.
00:45:53He co-stars Mindstorm who was a former member of Payback in the show as well as Mazel Tov who
00:45:58was on Team Titanic with Malchemical.
00:46:00The third character in the movie is Mindroid who in the comics was a member of Payback and the comics
00:46:05version of Mindstorm.
00:46:06We then see the Madame Web parody called Madame Marathon which is part of Mr Marathon's origins.
00:46:12Which is kinda referring to how Madame Web was sort of a prequel to Spider-Man in a way but
00:46:16not connected.
00:46:17You know what I mean, the writers are a fucking mess.
00:46:20This also stars Malchemical played by Misha Collins in the show.
00:46:23He's also a former Supernatural cast member and is excellent in this episode.
00:46:27We finally get all three of them on screen and behind the camera we also have Eric Kripke who was
00:46:32the showrunner behind that series.
00:46:34Now in the comics Malchemical can change into anything he wants.
00:46:37He was kicked out of Team Titanic and is a parody of DC's Metamorpho.
00:46:40He was then made the leader of SuperDuper who are a bunch of naive young Supes.
00:46:44Huey was surveilling the team in the source material and then ended up infiltrating them when one of the Supes
00:46:49was choking.
00:46:50He then went in to stop Malchemical after hearing him abusing the team only to get his ass beat.
00:46:55Luckily though, Butcher is always watching and he set Malchemical on fire.
00:46:59At this point we then see Mr Marathon Vampire Hunter which is a parody of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
00:47:05There's also running on vapours, Let There Be Rampage and Savage Justice.
00:47:09All of which look like terrible made for streaming movies.
00:47:12But yeah it's all under Sony's umbrella and as we learn Mr Marathon even gets half off Sony TVs.
00:47:17We then cut to a poker game being played by celebrities.
00:47:20There's Kamala Nanjani, Seth Rogen, Christopher Minceplass and also Will Forte.
00:47:25Seth Rogen is of course an executive producer on the show and we saw him in season 3 as Sir
00:47:30Comes A Lot 779.
00:47:32He was also shown as the director of Black Noir Insurrection in season 1 as well as having a brief
00:47:37part in season 2.
00:47:38Kamala mentions Aziz Ansari, Macaulay Culkin, Joaquin Phoenix, Keita Sutherland and lastly Meryl Streep.
00:47:44We learn that Malchemical isn't on board with the fascism as he just wants to live that Hollywood
00:47:49lifestyle.
00:47:50They all agree they need to do something and Kamala says that their superpower is storytelling.
00:47:55It's a speech that reminds me of Seth Rogen's one in the studio when some doctors looked
00:47:58out on his role as the head of a movie studio.
00:48:01He then mentions Luke Skywalker, Katniss and how Gandhi inspired people.
00:48:05Which mate, Gandhi was real.
00:48:07Will claps back saying that actors just collect their paychecks and this is poking fun at actors
00:48:11trying to be all political.
00:48:12Rogen then says they should post about what's happened at the same time by using black squares.
00:48:17However this was used by the Black Lives Matter movement and critics of that said that people
00:48:21would just find endless black squares which blocked out activists sharing information.
00:48:25Rogen then suggests blue squares saying blue lives matter which is of course a movement to
00:48:29support the police.
00:48:31They then suggest using white squares, oh no.
00:48:34Rogen then suggests getting Lena Dunham to write an article for The Atlantic.
00:48:37This is riffing on the toothless activism from 2016 onwards.
00:48:41Lena Dunham is a wily polarising figure and kinda like the poster child for Hollywood liberalism.
00:48:47Will then says that the best day of his life was when Bill Hader was executed as he's now
00:48:52getting more offers.
00:48:53Christopher also says he has hopes Michael Cera gets rounded up as they're going for the
00:48:57same pot.
00:48:58This whole thing is basically the boys version of this is the end and there Jonah Hill prayed
00:49:02for Jay Baruchell's downfall.
00:49:04We even see as Craig Robinson missed out on all the events just like Danny McBride.
00:49:08Rogen then says they've been friends for 20 years referring to their first movie together
00:49:12super bad.
00:49:24We then see as they're interrupted by Homelander and Soldier Boy arriving.
00:49:28They pretend to be pleased to see them despite plotting a protest against fascism.
00:49:32We then learn that Will turned in Channing Tatum and Seth Rogen introduces himself.
00:49:37They met at the premiere for Silent Vengeance 3 Vengeance Reloaded which is part of the VCU
00:49:41Phase 10.
00:49:42Rogen is also gonna be testifying in front of congress and outing star letters such as
00:49:47Post Malone.
00:49:48Now this is a reference to the House of Un-American Activities committee that basically popped
00:49:52up during the Cold War.
00:49:53It aimed to root out communism and for a time focused on movies, tv and radio.
00:49:58There suspected communists were investigated which led to a Hollywood blacklist.
00:50:02Here it's being used to look for star letters but it's also being abused.
00:50:06The Supes then ask Marathon about V1.
00:50:09We then go into his personal vault museum which is a smaller version of Godolkens secret one.
00:50:14As they enter we can see the logo for Vought American which was the original name for the
00:50:17company and the one used in the comics.
00:50:19This logo was also used at Voughtcon which they basically used as a way to announce the
00:50:24next slate for the VCU.
00:50:26There's also a poster for Soldier Boy Ahoy and next to that is the Ghost of Hanai which
00:50:30is inspired by Rambo.
00:50:32Next to the flag is also a Payback team poster.
00:50:35We then see adverts for Vought Thins and Silver Kincaid being used.
00:50:38In the comics she was a member of the G-Men and was abducted by Godolkens.
00:50:42She was experimented on and abused leading to her to try and blow the whistle to the CIA.
00:50:47Reyna then told her that her family was dead and the Supes then took her own life shortly
00:50:51after.
00:50:51The picture here looks identical to the comic book version though but in season 3 we did
00:50:55have a different version of Kincaid.
00:50:57She actually took part in the American Hero show and was a Muslim woman from Birmingham.
00:51:02Starlight wanted her to win but Homelander rejected the idea and thus the deep was brought
00:51:06back in in what's another classic moment.
00:51:09Next to that's also an advert for Liberty Bonds which is similar to how Captain America was
00:51:13used to sell war bonds.
00:51:14We then see a Captain America comic that blends his original run with the 70s Marvel comic
00:51:20group banner.
00:51:20This was taken off the shelves after the Kent State Massacre which was when student protesters
00:51:25were shot by authorities.
00:51:26The cover shows him telling these hippies to get a haircut and shooting at protesters as
00:51:31well as a very on the nose, thou thoth protest too much.
00:51:34It shows how Vought has gone as far back as the 70s though and was in bed with a US
00:51:39admin
00:51:39back then.
00:51:40You also see Vought trading cards with black noir and gunpowder but it's clear they think
00:51:44they were good times and Homelander then sees a load of baby oil called Puff Baby.
00:51:49This is a clear reference to what was found in Diddy's home and Diddy's old rap name
00:51:53used to be Puff Daddy.
00:51:55So Puff Baby.
00:51:56Homelander then looks at him disgusted and I did find this odd.
00:51:59He's been painted as an asexual person but we know he forced himself on Becca Butcher.
00:52:04So I do wonder if he's kind of gone celibate after seeing himself as a god now.
00:52:09Marathon also has a number of Nazi objects and says that Dr Vought was a great man.
00:52:13Soldier Boy knows it different though and calls him a pansy with a German accent and sweaty
00:52:17palms.
00:52:18Clearly though he was also very jealous that Clara was his wife.
00:52:22Soldier Boy has mentioned her a few times now and seems to caress her photo.
00:52:26The pair even founded Herogasm together and I expect that Vought Rising will explore this
00:52:31potential love story with her being Soldier Boy's Peggy.
00:52:33I even wondered if Stormfront was secretly Homelander's mother as you'd need a soup to
00:52:38carry a soup child and yes that would make things even more fucked up than they already
00:52:42are.
00:52:43Homelander then asks if he knows where V1 is or not and we can see another Soldier Boy Captain
00:52:47America style poster to the left.
00:52:49He then mentions that Bombsite knows where it is and that he can call them to come over
00:52:52as he's been Marathon's best customer.
00:52:55At Fort Harmony they of course discover drugs and it's just playing up the idea that the
00:52:59guy's a fucking drug addict.
00:53:02We then cut to Soldier Boy and Marathon doing blow which the speedster just picked up.
00:53:06Homelander though just sits alone as he's not into the drugs and debauchery.
00:53:10McLovin then offers Homelander a spliff and Seth Rogen says he just pretends to like weed
00:53:15for his brand.
00:53:15Now this is a big joke as Seth Rogen is probably like the biggest weed guy besides Snoop Dogg.
00:53:22He says he just does it to sell ashtrays and yeah I really appreciated this self referential
00:53:26joke.
00:53:27McLovin is completely mugged off and then we see Malchemical talking to Homelander who
00:53:30doesn't remember him.
00:53:31He then overhears Marathon saying that he's weird.
00:53:34This is similar to how he caught A-Train insulting him under his breath.
00:53:37Marathon then recites a story about how Misha Barton wanted to suck him off but he kept talking
00:53:41about Niche.
00:53:42This is a name drop that made me chuckle as I did watch her crush it in a stage production
00:53:46of Double Indemnity.
00:53:48See, I can be cultured.
00:53:50It's not all just look at this easter egg that shows Glup Shitto.
00:53:53He says that he's always been weird though and is obsessed with his cape which is something
00:53:57Soldier Boy also made fun of him for last week and they think it's like a baby blanket or
00:54:02something.
00:54:02But Star is just so intimidating in these moments and he asks him to say it again which just
00:54:08silences the room.
00:54:09Soldier Boy then tells him to take a jog but Homelander really cannot and then threatens
00:54:14to leave.
00:54:15Before this though he says the actors will pay for their memes.
00:54:18Very very soon.
00:54:19They all end up dying and it's kind of like a last warning before things go down.
00:54:24Even if he doesn't really have a hand in it.
00:54:26Will then turns on his friends and Kamal jokes that he's yoked.
00:54:29This line really made me laugh cause yeah the guy's in great shape but he did this for
00:54:34the Eternals and then basically wore a costume throughout the entire movie.
00:54:37Behind the bar we can also see Mr Marathon racing a cheater which is of course the fastest land
00:54:42animal.
00:54:43Malchemical then uses his power to knock out Homelander.
00:54:46Might omit a lot of June when the Duke's given gas to try and take out the Baron.
00:54:49That plan fails just like this one here and ultimately the tyrant lives.
00:54:54Will then begs to leave but he gets called Macgruber which is a reference to his long running
00:54:58MacGyver parody character.
00:54:59We see as Marathon wants Soulja Boy to help get rid of Homelander and then he can have
00:55:03the Seven.
00:55:04They're rounding up everyone cool like hookers and drug dealers and though Soulja Boy doesn't
00:55:09seem interested, he does when abortion's brought up.
00:55:14Think what this highlights in the end is that the vault media machine isn't really working
00:55:18on most of the public.
00:55:19Especially the Supes and celebrities.
00:55:21They just wanna make movies, do drugs and bang chicks but instead, because of Homelander,
00:55:26soups have been brought into politics.
00:55:28The episode also insinuates that while Homelander appears to be in control, the markets are not
00:55:33on board with his weird plans.
00:55:35I was surprised that Malchemical died so fast as well as I think that Butcher could have
00:55:39done something with his power.
00:55:40Turns out Mal was also at hero gasm and he brings up Soulja Boy's chest blast.
00:55:45That can actually take away Homelander's powers but he says that the soup is his son.
00:55:52Oof, it's the second joke about the pair banging and that I feel is another reference
00:55:57to the comics.
00:55:58We then see as Soulja Boy kills Malchemical which leads to a fight between him and Mr.
00:56:02Marathon.
00:56:03He even has a sound similar to A-Train when he uses his powers.
00:56:07Yeah, it's like A-Train but sped up.
00:56:09Will is then killed as the speedster runs into him and Soulja Boy uses the celebs as human
00:56:13shields.
00:56:14I absolutely died during this and throughout this scene I just thought it was brilliant.
00:56:19They all explode just like Hueys poor ex-Robin and Marathon just gets bloodier and bloodier.
00:56:24Next is Craig Robinson and he says that his guts have been destroyed by Danny Trejo's food
00:56:28who has a chain of restaurants.
00:56:30Kamala and McLovin then try to call the police and trust Soulja Boy only to get screwed over.
00:56:35Seth Rogan then tries to escape only to get run into as well leaving him cut in half on
00:56:39the floor.
00:56:40It's a funny, emotional moment and Marathon says he'll remember Rogan every time he watches
00:56:44an American Pickle.
00:56:46Soulja Boy then carries out a home alone and uses the Diddy Lou to trip Marathon.
00:56:50As he runs into it we can also see TNT twin toy boxes.
00:56:54There's also blueprints for what might be Seven Tower as there's a picture of that as well.
00:56:58Soulja Boy then breaks Marathon's ankle which is something that happened to Barry Allen during
00:57:02Flashpoint.
00:57:03The speedster then reveals Bombsite does have the V1 but he hasn't seen him for 5 years.
00:57:07Also love how Homelander comes in out of nowhere with the curb stomp.
00:57:11Close by we can also see a crimson countess that reminds me of Rio by Duran Duran.
00:57:16Soulja Boy then says he took care of what happened because fuck them which is a similar sentiment
00:57:21that Sister Sage had.
00:57:22Den reveals he's been banging firecracker as well as their pillow talk.
00:57:26While doing this he picks up the comic we saw earlier and we can see a Bombsite comic
00:57:30was next to it.
00:57:31We also saw he was in the Curse of Fu Manchu during the V52 scenes in season 4.
00:57:35As well as these we can see a reference to Private Angel as there's a cast chair for
00:57:39her.
00:57:40She'll be part of Vaught Rising incase you don't know and lastly we can see a Retro Vaught
00:57:44Petroleum Petrol Pump which is a brand that we saw in Gen V Season 2.
00:57:48We then cut to firecracker who loses the last bit of herself by throwing away the Jesus action
00:57:53figure.
00:57:53She's shocked by Homelander and he then reveals he knows about her and Soulja Boy's pillow
00:57:58talk.
00:57:58Funnily enough he doesn't care about the sex but is clearly annoyed they've been talking
00:58:03behind her back and she's been having doubts.
00:58:05He then asks...
00:58:06Are you thinking of Jesus when you're praising me?
00:58:09He can tell she's lying and does a Dr Meredith Gray and says...
00:58:13You're supposed to worship me.
00:58:15Love me.
00:58:22He's angry that she doesn't believe in him and fires her from the Seven.
00:58:26He tells her to pack up and leave and it's crazy she could've walked away from this had
00:58:30she not pled and further bruised his ego.
00:58:32But she's the only one who truly believes in him and she says the others are scared of
00:58:36him.
00:58:37All he wanted was for someone that really loved him and it does seem like she actually
00:58:41does.
00:58:41However, due to his ego and parental issues, he's pushed her away and he ends up destroying
00:58:46her.
00:58:46He's transactional and the minute she couldn't make milk, he tossed her aside and because
00:58:51of this, he'll never truly be happy.
00:58:53He even scoffs at her calling him a man and she says that everyone needs love, even God.
00:58:59There's no room for love though as any tiny perceived slight is the worst thing he can do
00:59:03to him and so he kills her.
00:59:05She's a patriotic soup killed using the symbol of America which is an eagle by the wannabe
00:59:10symbol of America.
00:59:11Ultimately Firecracker gave up the only thing that helped her through life while Homelander
00:59:16killed the only person who genuinely liked her.
00:59:18That's the end of one of my favourite episodes of the boys ever and it was just great getting
00:59:24a look at all the lives of the Seven.
00:59:26It had emotion, funny moments and was littered with comic book easter eggs and I do hope we
00:59:31get a bit more of an explanation from soldier boy and exactly what the fuck he's doing
00:59:35because it does feel a bit flimsy.
00:59:37But yeah we've also got the Super War and the comic epilogues to go as well and beyond
00:59:41that wrapping up everyone else's story.
00:59:43So let's hope this is better than the lamplighter finale.
00:59:46But again it was a banging episode in my opinion and yeah I hope you've enjoyed us going back
00:59:50through it.
00:59:53Did you know as well that members of the channel also get early access to videos like this every
