00:00Welcome to stage two of the Vuelta Femenina 2026.
00:05Naomi Rueg left the rest behind on stage one, a day not without its dangers.
00:11Slippery, so in the last descent we saw a few crashes as well,
00:14which is always hard to see when you're racing, so I hope everyone's fine.
00:20Big crash here on the bend here on this left hand bend.
00:26Despite her superhuman effort to finish seventh, Mariana Vos is out of La Vuelta.
00:31A broken collarbone means after winning three successive green jerseys, there'll be a new winner.
00:37Rueg protecting red and green in particular from Franzi Koch, second in both categories,
00:43but Lota Capecchi wants to upgrade second for a first Vuelta stage win in five years.
00:50No categorised climbs, but that doesn't make it an easy ride.
00:53Nearly 2,000 metres of elevation gain on a day that will be hard on the legs
00:58and hard on the team's ability to control.
01:01A breakaway could also stick if the peloton misjudges,
01:04but a bunch sprint the most likely outcome for the stage two finale.
01:11Yet the early breakaway hoped to contradict that assertion.
01:15Five riders making a move to establish around a minute over the peloton.
01:19A mixture of youth and experience, in particular from the two World Tour teams.
01:25Julie van de Velde of AG Insurance Sudau with the ability to attempt long solo charges,
01:30yet it was Phoenix Premier Tech's former Austrian champion Karina Schrempf,
01:35who was now in the virtual red jersey.
01:39Yet no stress down the road, at least not yet.
01:42Rueg knew she had to produce a repeat of yesterday to protect La Roja come the finish.
01:48Franzi Koch could have been in Rueg's green jersey,
01:51but understandably chose to continue showing off her German national one.
01:55The FDJ rider level with Rueg thanks to bonus seconds earned.
01:59She'd again be targeting the intermediate sprint at Baldengo.
02:03The weather improving as Pauline Ferrand-Prévot removed her gilet,
02:07the Tour de France femme champion aiming for a first win of 2026.
02:11But the main focus for Visma was to ride for their fallen teammate,
02:15after the goat had to retire from the race.
02:19Yeah, I mean, it's really a shame.
02:21I think you could see also in the way she chased back yesterday with the broken collarbone,
02:24that she was really going well.
02:26But we used it as motivation to fight, to make her nice stages for her.
02:32Up the road, the first cracks in the breakaway.
02:35Hitting the wall first, 19-year-old Lea Rondel,
02:39the youngest in the field on her first Grand Tour.
02:42Italian Andrea Casagrande also falling by the wayside,
02:45a sign of things to come for the remaining trio.
02:49The peloton keeping the pace high as the gap to the escapades continued to tumble.
02:54But they wouldn't catch the top trio before they reached the intermediate sprint.
02:58Valuable bonus seconds to reward the breakaway.
03:03Schwempfer reminder is the highest placed rider on GC, just 10 seconds down.
03:07And she will be the first rider over the line.
03:09She will take the maximum points and the six bonus seconds as well.
03:13So that will do very, very nicely.
03:16And that was all she wrote inside the final 30 kilometers,
03:20as they were finally reeled in.
03:23The focus turned to being set up for the finish.
03:26But when concentration slips, anything can happen.
03:30And after the drama of yesterday, stage two served up some more.
03:35But there's been a crash at the back of the peloton.
03:37It looks like we've got the red jersey down there.
03:39The runner from EF Education has stopped there to help her teammates.
03:43The red jersey out of La Vuelta, as Catherine Ellarud took her opportunity to go it alone.
03:51The Norwegian initially growing her advantage, but so hard to protect with the 4.6% gradients upcoming.
03:58And so it proved a short-lived dream for the Uno X rider.
04:06So it all came down to a bunch sprint again.
04:09Who would be raising their arms come the line?
04:14This is a huge move here.
04:16It looks like it could be Cedrine Cabour with the rider on the front at the moment.
04:20Kashi Nivi Demi is right tucked in there on second wheel at the moment.
04:24Could this be a day for Sarah Van Damme of Team Visma Lisa?
04:27But she's also right up there in the yellow kit.
04:29Franz Koch is up there in the German National Championship, the winner of Paris-Roubaix.
04:33But now a move comes down the middle from SD Works Pro Time.
04:36Where is Lota Capecchi?
04:37Lota Capecchi is in the center there.
04:38Oh, a knock on the shoulders there for the green jersey.
04:40She's not happy about that.
04:42The green jersey there is not going to take the victory here.
04:44There's a sprint off the front from Adrian Strasugald and a brilliant victory there.
05:01I was not expecting to win today because I was actually really far in the back of the climb,
05:09but in the downhill I make a lot of space to run.
05:16And then I just came with a lot of speed and I think nobody was expecting that.
05:22An incredible achievement for Shari Bossout.
05:26Rubbing shoulders with the best, literally in the case of Capecchi,
05:30her teammate when they became Madison World Champions in 2022.
05:34The 25-year-old with a breakthrough performance, her first Grand Tour stage win.
05:43Bossout had previously posted top tens at last year's Tour de France Femmes,
05:47but this her most special sprint.
05:50Evita Music's great finish meant a 2-3 for FTG United Suez.
05:55The French woman just behind teammate Franzi Koch again pipped for first,
05:59but the German walked away with the biggest prize on her shoulders.
06:03A reward for consistency to wear the red jersey for the very first time.
06:08Koch with a six-second cushion over stage winner Bossout.
06:12Capecchi remains third with Evita Music, the biggest climber, up into the top five.
06:18Koch leads two categories and holds a nifty advantage.
06:2225 points clear of Bossout, who will wear the green tomorrow after a breakthrough win.
06:28Double delights for AJ Insurance Sudal team with Laurie Deshepers into the Young Riders jersey.
06:34That's after Eleonora Ciabocco was caught up in the crash, the Italian falling to seventh.
06:42May the fourth be with you and see you tomorrow when we head north to A Coruña for more La
06:47Vuelta drama.
