00:55you guys are legends hello Hussie hello we are a collective of autistic journalism students and
01:03we are very happy to have you join us today no subject is out of bounds no questions off the
01:08table anything might happen good so without further ado welcome to the assembly thank you
01:21okay so Abby can you get yourself onto this mark here okay in three tonight the assembly returns and
01:33graduates from past series are back another day another prep and Lee sales is mentoring us
01:45the students have graduated from the journalism foundations course and they're ready for the
01:49next step taking us on the road wow and behind the scenes this is really awesome to level up our
01:58media
01:58skills hey Abby we're about to record a song okay I'm ready to go on both sides of the camera
02:05square up to
02:05the camera some of Australia's most celebrated names are taking the hot seat no making me cry okay for
02:13interviews like you've never seen before what do you consider your most important decision um have you
02:18ever been arrested that is a good question what is the most bogan thing you've ever done oh you've got
02:25this just this is the most fun I've ever had I go first cuz I'm the disabled one
02:52and you got another put my my lonely headphones in now let me guess I am right here is always
02:59I'm behind this annoying ass plant it's a good plan everyone be quiet leaves coming good morning
03:07everyone okay would you like to know who our next guest is he is one of Australia's most popular
03:18comedians he's had a career of a couple of decades on both television and radio also a very busy and
03:26popular stand-up comedian it's Dave now what what do you all know about Dave Hughes it was on the
03:39project he was um on you see we have a problem hello my name is Dave Hughes and like everyone
03:45else I've got
03:46problems three of them are my children and I get wrong I love them and I finally got something that
03:53I'm prepared to die for but the thing is I probably want that day to be today to be honest
03:57out he was
03:59the goblin from next door from do not watch the show hang on you're that fella from that do not
04:06watch this show show aren't you he was on I'm a celebrity get me out of here and he was
04:12I think he
04:13was a judge on the mask singer I think I might have an idea here yeah yeah I will talk
04:18in controversial
04:19sports star I think this person highly strong might be a tennis player Savannah oh he has a strong
04:28Australian accent he really does doesn't I can actually do it can you show me oh yeah how are you
04:35yeah how are you everyone Dave Hughes shall we split into groups and go and work on our questions
04:41all right let's do it okay go and get my notebook I feel so excited about meeting Dave Hughes this
04:50is
04:50probably about going to be the best one of the season so he's been a um a very funny man
04:57he's been
04:57on the glass house spicks and specs and even on the logies was he ever up for a gold or
05:04never even
05:04up for a girl oh my god I feel bad hello my name's Lee nice to meet you oh hi
05:12Lee I'm Anastasia lovely
05:14to you are you looking forward to doing Husey excited to see a funny man fun guy do you know
05:19much that Dave Hughes has been on Savannah I do know the show Husey we have a problem because whenever
05:22there's drama happening within the family or a group of friends of mine I say Husey we have a problem
05:29I think he'll be a good guest I think um he'll tell stories even yeah even before his even before
05:35his mask breaks down he'll probably at least be good at chatting to us I guess my um thought is
05:41whether it'll feel like he's having a conversation with us or whether he's kind of performing yeah
05:46that's true that is a very good point I have to see if we can come up with some creative
05:50questions
05:50to bust him out of that yeah Husey's been around so long and there's so much content online about
05:56him it's actually quite hard to wade through it all so what I'm going to do is take the students
06:01to
06:01a comedy club where he's performed to just try to get to the essence of the man
06:08all right let's go come on in whoa look at this play what I'm hoping is that they get a
06:16sense of
06:17what it's like backstage in a theater which is always really exciting even when there's nobody
06:21here so this is backstage for the performers okay but also what it feels like when you walk
06:28out onto a stage I want them to imagine that the room is full of people and you are on
06:34stage
06:35at the end more this is really awesome wow
06:43Oliver you've had a bit of experience in theater what what do you reckon would be going through
06:46your mind if you were stepping out with so many people I think I'd be nervous but I often find
06:51that the nerves are what fuels the energy to go on stage would anyone be interested in having a go
06:58of some stand-up hello I should probably tell you about myself my name Oliver my age 27
07:18this is a gift I'm far more at home on stage than I am off my star sign irrelevant but
07:25Capricorn and the
07:27fact that I have autism I mean you probably could have figured that out from the fact I'm on the
07:32assembly but you know here we are I know what I have to say I get off I was at
07:38home I love that
07:39here comes Fletcher
07:53I'm going to be doing an impersonation of a journalist let's see if you can guess who this is hello
08:00prime minister why aren't you answering the question you're not answering the question prime minister this
08:07is politics guilty guilty you're not giving us a proper rental
08:12and for the next guest lee say
08:16do you know what as hilarious as I would be and as much as I bring the house down
08:21I have actually got a real comedian here to talk to you
08:35I've invited Will Anderson to come along today to tell the students a bit about what it's like
08:39doing stand-up but also he's a mate of Dave Hughes so perhaps to give them a bit of intel
08:43on Dave
08:43um everyone this is Will hello thanks for having me today he's one of the country's most successful
08:50stand-up comedians has his own tv show and so Will thank you very much for coming in to have
08:55a chat to
08:55us I mean that's it's pretty exciting to interview Dave Hughes yeah has anyone got something they want
09:01to ask Will out of all the questions we could ask what do you think would make the best conversation
09:05with him from your experience knowing him that is firstly an excellent question and I might even
09:12steal that question to use when I'm interviewing people because that's a very good way to start a
09:16conversation I think how do you talk to hisy well firstly I think sports is a good way to start
09:22if
09:23you want some small chat he loves his sports he's obsessed by the Carlton Football Club who are terrible
09:27you have to be a comedian to like the Carlton Football Club but I think also the other thing you've
09:31got to realise with Hughes is he loves to talk but he's talked so much over his career that what
09:36he'll really love is being asked a question he hasn't been asked before there's Hughesy and then
09:42there's David Hughes what is the character and what is the person and I mean I think that's a really
09:48great
09:48question and what I would add to that is how does becoming the persona night after night
09:54affect who the real person is that's what I'm interested in Dave Hughes the man and all his
10:01eccentricities I think you will find him a absolutely generous funny willing to laugh
10:08I think he'll absolutely just love getting the opportunity to be asked questions by you
10:12but ask him some hard ones
10:22oh it's a good crew no yeah it's a good crew I love it amazing crew fantastic how many times
10:29have
10:29you been to the ABC when this building first opened I was here so a tv show called the glass
10:35house and I've
10:36been having nervous wheeze in this building since 2003 we can go with the toilet humor if we want
10:42it's all good um okay we're good we're good to go so Pat do you want to keep things off
10:46hello everyone
10:49this is a safe space everyone can relax and be themselves there will be no judgment please do what
10:55you need to join in for example fidget move take a break and yes even go to the toilet if
11:01you need to
11:02ask ask if you need anything to help and you will be included thank you um Mitch okay
11:10hello I'm Mitch hi Mitch um so what makes you love the AFL team Carlton so much because they don't
11:17win
11:18very often no you that's a very good point and I hope the players are watching um so they can
11:24improve their play
11:27mate when I was five years old which is a long time ago
11:31Carlton were on top of the ladder and I and I supported another team
11:35but a five-year-old friend of mine said why don't you go for Carlton and I looked at the
11:39ladder and said
11:40I don't know why I should and so I started supporting Carlton in 1976 and for the first for
11:46in the next 20 years that was a good decision because we were always winning we won a lot of
11:51premierships and then it went wrong in 2002 we just went to the bottom of the ladder and we really
11:59haven't improved and all that in the last 23 years and that was it coincides with when I met my
12:05wife
12:07the whole time we've been together I haven't been happy oh no don't say that yeah but she because of
12:15Carlton have been terrible so we may have to get divorced um so I can well guys this is turning
12:23turned into Oprah has it um no I won't get divorced I'll stay with her but she needs to realize
12:29I've
12:29sacrificed yeah so it's sad yeah I'm sorry to bring you down but go to the swannies oh the swans
12:37win a
12:37lot and it annoys me thanks Mitch Willow hi Dave my name's Willow hello Willow do you get stage
12:44fright because I do what do you do to get over your stage fright I used to get stage fright
12:48a lot
12:48so back then I just use power through but you know lately I realized this is true it's only
12:56really recently and I've been in showbiz for 25 years longer 30 years lately I realized no one cares
13:04and you know what the first time I did stand-up comedy I've been dreaming about it since I was
13:0814 or
13:0913 and I was 22 when I first started I'd failed uni a couple of times and my first ever
13:16gig no one
13:18laughed and I was like the spotlight was on me I felt like I was being interrogated and in my
13:25brain was
13:25going you're a loser and you're going to be on the dole for the rest of your life that's what's
13:31happening
13:31internally that's not a good way to make a room relax and I was talking about being teased at school
13:36that was
13:37my schtick my what I was my anger was and as I walked out of the room after no one
13:41had laughed
13:42some some audience member said to me as I'm walking out feeling humiliated that they were right to tease
13:48you that was exactly but so I felt even worse but I thought if I don't go back the next
13:56week to this
13:56same comedy club I'll never do it again yeah and you know as I realized even in that failure I
14:01what I
14:02realized was I'm not physically hurt so it's my choice whether to you know to be offended or not
14:09so I went back the next week and I did okay but then the next time I did the third
14:13time as I walked
14:14on stage I thought to myself something came to me you're a winner just for doing this it doesn't
14:19matter what happens I relaxed and that third time in 1993 I had possibly the best gig I've ever had
14:29and everyone laughed so much oh in my mind they did and I walked out of that I floated out
14:34of the
14:34room that time and I knew I'd found my life's calling oh I remember that this time I get stage
14:39fight thank you Abby thank you hello Dave welcome to the assembly hello Dave how exactly does someone
14:50learn to talk like that is there a special school for Aussie bogan accent oh yeah wait no
14:57no seriously Dave um can you tell us about the voice and how successful it has made you
15:07yeah look I know probably a third of the comedians in Australia do an impersonation of me on stage
15:14and get laughs and so but I take it as a compliment because it means people know who I am
15:19so um
15:20I don't know why I speak like this I didn't mean to speak like this um I remember back being
15:26on the
15:26Masked Singer and sitting next to Lindsay Lohan you know international bloody superstar and the first time
15:32I met her she's like why don't you speak English I said I am Lindsay Lohan you should be like
15:41oh I'm
15:42sorry jolly good show isn't it see that's funny we're laughing at him now so I should you know what
15:50you guys are really helping my act well I think your voice is very funny and every time I listen
15:57to
15:57you talk I laugh yeah but some people don't but that's fine and I appreciate that I do as well
16:02but um yeah you're not going to please everyone you have been in comedy for decades how have you seen
16:08the industry change over the years especially when it comes to being more inclusive or are comedians
16:14still making jokes about people with disabilities like me um look I think it has generally over the
16:22years I haven't had to worry about that because my most of my jokes are on me you know and
16:28no one can
16:29complain about me mocking myself so occasionally you do a joke and you you don't think it's going to
16:35offend people but then it does so and you know you might have to apologize I remember I did a
16:41joke about
16:41diabetes once and the diabetics association weren't happy but I was talking about diabetes type 2
16:48not type 1 which is either way well um no it's my my father-in-law's diabetic anyway so it
16:57is that can
16:58be tricky but yeah I think you can be mindful and I think I have been mindful over the years
17:04absolutely
17:05thanks Abby um Oliver do you want to go hi I'm Oliver hey Oliver um when I do comedy I
17:11often play a
17:12character of Oliver yeah that is both a true version of me and a heightened character having
17:18done this for a while it sometimes becomes harder and harder to figure out where the character begins
17:24and the person ends for you who's been doing this for decades what is the difference between David
17:31William Hughes in real life and the Hughesy you play on stage yeah that's a good question uh so yeah
17:38I
17:38think my on stage persona is a heightened version of my real persona but it's funny how different
17:45people don't see that and for example my son who's just turned 16 he came to see a show this
17:52year for
17:53the first time a full show and he said dad that was weird I said why because I've lived with
18:00him for 16
18:00years he said I've never seen you so happy
18:06then I realized maybe I should bring my heightened version of myself to my real life
18:15you infamously brought a house on the block for just over three million dollars without asking your
18:20wife yeah um I was an adult for a long time by the way things can change despite occurring nearly
18:29a
18:29decade ago it's still remembered by many it is how long did it take your wife to forgive you for
18:35that
18:35she still hasn't but um so still own it never moved into it I want to move into it and
18:42she goes no
18:42everyone will know where we live and I said honey no one cares so but yeah so she still hasn't
18:48forgiven
18:49me the fact you then did it again and bought a house without telling her no I bought the other
18:54one
18:54before that but yes um the fact you did it twice that was terrible I know I'm I know and
19:00these are
19:00first world problems I get it um but again I'm saying I was on the dial I grew up in
19:04a commission
19:05house and so I yeah so I haven't done it for a while which is good that's good I hope
19:10you don't
19:11do it again but yeah I look I mean property is still a good investment in Australia if you can
19:15get
19:15you know it's hard it's so hard now though maybe just ask your wife first I know I should
19:21absolutely I mean yeah you're right good point thanks Oliver Fletcher hello husey hello
19:27Fletcher I really hate cats and I know how much you hate the f1 commentators is there anything else
19:34that makes you mad yeah right so you hate cats yeah I think you can learn to love cats oh
19:41no way
19:42nah nope nope nope nope if you met minka or bambi or marshmallow our three cats you would like two
19:50of
19:50them nope nope nope nope nope yeah cats are fun I hate kitty litter can I say that kitty litter
19:58I
19:58really hate and luckily we've got a new dog ginger who loves eating cat poo so that's good for me
20:05so
20:07in one episode of I'm a celebrity get me out of here the other celebrities played the prank on you
20:13by
20:13putting stickers on your back and you didn't realize it until the end did you ever get a chance to
20:18shall we say uh prank them back did I get them back so I can't remember now I hope I
20:24did like
20:25I mean obviously this this shows going great guns and most of you will probably end up on I'm a
20:30celebrity
20:31get me out of here no no no no no no if that happens just be warned that shows heart
20:39all right so
20:40imagine having no electricity for a month I would go crazy yeah I went crazy you know and I had
20:47one
20:48we got one letter from our family in six weeks on that show one letter that was it and I
20:53text my
20:54wife every two hours basically for the last 23 years also in her letter to me all she talked about
20:59was
20:59the cats and obviously we've already mentioned the cats and I love the cats but I've also got three
21:04children that I'm quite interested in thank you whoosie thank you pleasure um savannah good morning
21:14dave hello my name is savannah hey welcome it's great to be here appreciate the curtsy if other
21:21comedians are more famous than you do you get jealous of them yes yeah and I'm working on that
21:28it's a that's a that's a work in progress for example will anderson or hamish blake or you know
21:36kitty flanagan i don't like walking down the street with famous people
21:41because I get scared they're going to get asked for photos and I have to take the photo
21:47so I absolutely avoid it have you made out with anyone famous have I made out with anyone famous
21:56yes oh kiss and tell yeah um look I've really only had two proper girlfriends in my life
22:05first couple of years when I was 24 got me through to probably 30 then I had a year of
22:10being single
22:11and I've met my wife and we've been together 23 years so in that year I did have a couple
22:19of passions
22:19with some actresses one of the logies I won't name but yeah remember going down the down the escalator
22:26of the logies pissing at someone from a tv show um so yes is the answer but I won't name
22:33them because
22:34they get annoyed but um thanks hughesie appreciate that yeah thanks you ate bull penis on I'm a
22:47celebrity get me out of here what did bull penis taste like compared to chicken or steak well again
22:53because I haven't eaten meat for I think I've been I've been hescetarian which is just eat fish
22:59yes the only meat for about 20 years but I've gone full vegan probably close to 10 years now so
23:05I have
23:05not eaten any meat for 10 years and I tell you a bull penis was a that's jumping into the
23:12deep end
23:13actually it was a boar's penis anyway it was an animal that starts with b and it was its penis
23:18um
23:20they're very chewy so yeah you need to have a lot of tomato sauce with you and I didn't
23:27if you want to know what it's like you know grab your garden hose cut off cut off about six
23:32inches
23:33and try to eat it you know the annoying thing is I got kicked out straight away after I'd eaten
23:39it
23:40because I ate it to stay on the show and I still got kicked out I mean I had three
23:45inches of penis in
23:46my mouth when I got kicked out which is
23:51Anastasia yes all right um hello Dave I'm Anastasia lovely to meet you you too um if you were a
23:58contestant
23:58on The Masked Singer what would your identity be and what song would you sing I think my identity would
24:05be an air fried chip yeah and I would sing I'd probably sing True Blue from John Williamson hey
24:15True Blue and I'd say I would get kicked off straight away because people would know who I was
24:20and I would be the worst singer the show's ever had because I'm tone deaf I don't know what it
24:26is but
24:26just a terrible singer thank you Thomas
24:32Hello Husi with your comedy you would um use your family um for your routines have you ever gotten
24:39into trouble when you were at when you got home yeah I have yeah yeah um I remember once I
24:45talked
24:45about buying shoes because the uh the um the shoe salesman was an attractive woman and then I did that
24:51on radio in my early radio career and my girlfriend at the time I came home to her thinking she'd
24:56be
24:56happy about my new radio show and as I opened the I opened the door and she looked down at
25:00my new
25:01shoes and just slammed the door to find somewhere else to live so you've got sometimes you got to be
25:08careful I'm Finn hi Dave I'm Finn big fan thank you pumped up as you said we're pumped up yeah
25:15do you ever
25:16worry about marketing larrikinism and bogan culture when you're actually clean living and into meditation
25:23yeah I look I I don't worry about it but I am a bit of a contradiction um and people
25:29I haven't had
25:30a drink for since 1992 just before I started comedy actually I was a big uh user of alcohol as
25:36a young
25:37person and it would always get me in trouble so and I was it wasn't making me happy so I
25:42made a
25:43decision just before I turned 22 to stop drinking alcohol and all drugs go up all drugs and um yeah
25:49but
25:49people look at me now and still think I'm off my nut so and people always think I've got a
25:55hangover
25:55I look like I've got a hangover the whole time often people go you look terrible you must have
25:59a big night nah I've had nine hours sleep I'm fine so you should call by sign though thanks mate
26:05appreciate it thanks Finn Dale hello Hughesy hi mate you've been open that quitting alcohol in your
26:1220s was only half the story and what's been harder is your obsession with work approval and being
26:17everywhere what specific boundaries have you set to stop work becoming the new addiction yeah yeah
26:22it's a good question and my wife thinks I'm addicted to work look you've got to try to get a
26:27balance
26:28right my father used to say family is the most important thing and I'd go yeah whatever dad I'm
26:32going to be a star and um but I do realize what he's saying now it took me a long
26:37time to realize
26:38that he was right so yeah doing the project back in the day when I started that tv show
26:43with everyone else um I was working every night doing that I was doing breakfast radio as well
26:48in Melbourne so I was gone both ends of the day and we had three kids in that time so
26:53yeah I wasn't
26:55there that much so I should have been there more but I was too worried about my own ego but
27:00and I have
27:01since realized that doesn't matter but I do love comedy though so and that's was my first love I love
27:08comedy
27:08long before my children were born and they need to know that so awesome thank you for answering
27:15that thank you uh Daniel good hey mate how you going yeah good bro my name's Daniel hey Dan
27:23to stop drinking is very difficult for most people how did you manage this and what what was your
27:29motivation look I came from a long line of drinkers so I grew up with uh my dad drinking too
27:36much um which
27:37can be really stressful for kids and I saw myself doing the same thing I was always got too drunk
27:43which would I'd sometimes wake up in a police cell I wasn't violent not a violent person but I would
27:50be locked up for my own safety really because I was asleep on the road or something and I could
27:55see my future laid ahead of me yeah so I just decided the age of 21 I said I'm not
27:59going to drink
28:00anymore and and I just I just made a decision yeah if you realize that alcohol is terrible for you
28:05and you fully accept it but then you just you go I fully accept it and so then it's just
28:10gone
28:11so and it hasn't it wasn't that hard actually so what was the relationship with your father like
28:16um well again he had a lot of wisdom there's no doubt as you know about family being the most
28:21important thing and working hard and I was a lazy teenager he would drag out of bed so it was
28:26yeah and
28:26his drinking was an issue there's no doubt so yeah we had some tough times um but you know in
28:33hindsight
28:34there was you know he wanted the best for me you know he didn't he kept drinking which he shouldn't
28:41have in my opinion I think he would have had a better life if he had not drank yeah there
28:45was
28:45I mean a lot of people have trouble with their dads a lot of blokes have trouble with their dads
28:48and I get it so I'm trying not to do that with my own son so yeah all right thanks
28:53mate I appreciate it
28:54thank you thank you Abby yep um you have talked about how important your mum was in your upbringing
29:02and how she helped you kick your addictions can you tell us a story about your mum that shaped who
29:08you
29:09are yeah yeah if I can I mean imagine my mum um she grew up in an orphanage so she
29:19didn't really have
29:19any parents so but she never complained about that or even wanted me to mention it so yeah she was
29:28a
29:28beautiful woman who was strong and um yeah she always she was my biggest supporter so yeah so thank you
29:39so yeah so mum was um saw that I was a smart kid from yeah very early on so she
29:46um yeah she sort of
29:49could see that I would um that I had some you know potential I suppose so and supported me all
29:56the way along so yeah so um yeah mum was always on my side she died a couple of years
30:02ago so
30:04yeah she was a great person well my mum means the world to me and she's my biggest advocate good
30:10good
30:14Evie hi I'm Evie um the main thing I want to do is work in the creative industry and I
30:24find
30:24I find it hard to imagine anything else if comedy hadn't worked out for you what else would you be
30:30doing good question so um yeah I really burnt my bridges I start my first degree was information
30:38technology in 1989 if anyone knows the history of the internet really started in 1990 I could be Bill
30:45Gates right now so I quit after six weeks because I just couldn't focus so and then I did business
30:51quit that as well after two years and then I I got sacked from so many jobs I got sacked
30:56as a dishwasher
30:58and you might think because you were lazy no I was trying hard
31:02and when you get sacked as a dishwasher and you're trying really hard you think my employment
31:08opportunities are going to be limited you know I turned that into jokes and and these so things bad
31:14things that happened to me you know humiliating things became comedy for me so and yeah the good
31:20the good thing about social media now is that you can be you're created just by having an Instagram
31:25account or a TikTok account and you create your own work your own art or your own you can do
31:30whatever
31:31you like maybe you don't get paid for it when maybe you're you know your account gets discovered
31:36after you're dead it could be you you never know just keep creating art thanks Evie let's give um
31:44Andrew a turn off you go hello Dave I'm Andrew hi Andrew did your meeting with the Dalai Lama influence
31:53the way you see meditation and mindfulness it did so I did meet with a Dalai Lama while I was
31:59on the
31:59project back in the day um and he's someone who people see as being a wise soul and he just
32:07giggled
32:07the whole time he looked at me and said I like you and he said because you've got crazy eyes
32:13and I
32:13appreciate that so and I actually got into I said can you bless my football my AFL team Carlton
32:21and he said I can but it won't make any difference and he was right so but he did so
32:27yeah it's really
32:27good yeah it was great and again someone a giggle giggle at life and that's what he does so yeah
32:33and
32:34that's what I think we all should do as much as we can Dave Hughes it's been an honor to
32:38interview
32:39you today I appreciate that thank you so much thank you James
32:43James hi Dave I'm James hi James you are known for poking fun at yourself what's something about
32:51yourself other than your family of course that you are secretly proud of um
33:01I would something probably something I would try to avoid actually because it will lead to sorrow
33:07basically so it's like you know I was proud of having a successful radio career and then like
33:15I got sacked from my last radio job so it's like that's that pride is um something that you know
33:21ends
33:21up making you feel miserable but also pride means you're thinking about yourself and I read this study
33:27recently it said that the happiest people in the world are the people who think about themselves the
33:33least just imagine you didn't you didn't think about yourself for a second and you just looked
33:38around you go oh my god this is amazing what is this what are we doing here what is life
33:45and it was
33:46like it would be it's awesome well those are very wise words but I do think you have a lot
33:52to be proud
33:52of so thank you thank you mate thank you ciao oh is it okay um I speak for everyone here
33:59um we all have big dreams
34:04and not all of us will succeed um what advice would you give to those of us who don't make
34:10it thank
34:11you I'd say there's there is no making it there is no making it the new world order which is
34:18um
34:18taking the power minutes it's taking the power away but I mean I've done tv and radio in this country
34:24for many years and um but having a job on radio and tv involves executives uh saying that you're on
34:33but the podcasting and all that sort of social media now means that we all have an opportunity
34:39to do it and no one you don't need anyone to tell you that you've got a job you can
34:43do it yourself
34:44and so and you never know who's gonna pop it could be anyone in this room could you know obviously
34:51you're
34:51already popping you're on bloody this show which is amazing but you never know it's so in a way it's
34:56very egalitarian as in anyone can get famous so if you've got something to say say it silas
35:06hello i'm silas hey mate uh how much money would it take for you to permanently walk away from comedy
35:14none i would never walk away from comedy for me the money is very secondary it's not
35:20it didn't it didn't used to be obviously i'd want to make a living as a comedian but it's the
35:26comedy
35:26itself is that it's the joy of laughter the joy of creating laughter is everything to me hand on
35:36heart give me 10 billion dollars i would say no if i had to stop comedy in my last day
35:42of life i'll be
35:43lying in probably a hospital room i'm hopefully my bedroom at home whatever wherever i am i'll know
35:49i'm about to die and i'll grab my phone so i've got one more funny bit to do
35:56because everything that goes wrong in my life is where i get my best material so
36:00on my dying day that's a good day for material
36:05pat
36:07hello hughesie i'm pat nice to meet you you too
36:11so you have made a living out of solving other people's problems would this make you a good world
36:16leader yeah look um yeah i i don't have all the answers i'm used to getting criticized so that would
36:22that would get me into politics i would be able to survive probably with my attitude of dealing with
36:29criticism so dave hughes for pm or dave hughes for pm yeah i don't look it's um yeah i don't
36:34think i've
36:34i've never won a logie so it's pretty hard for me to i don't think i'd get enough votes to
36:39be honest
36:39actually there was one my son has a funny thing my son um a little while back um we were
36:46in the car
36:46and he got a text message and he started laughing really hard and i'm like what is it he said
36:52my mate
36:52sent me a message there's a tick tock had done a poll about the apparently about the five australian
36:58men with the lowest auras which i didn't know what that meant at the time for people who don't
37:03know having a low aura is bad it means you're uncool and i'm like what's that got to do with
37:10me
37:11he said you're on the list i'm like what i said that's that's confronting i said he said don't worry
37:18you're not number one i said where am i he said number two yeah exactly wait then who is number
37:26one
37:26well exactly i said who's number one he said peter dutton so um
37:33so what i'm saying is i don't think i should go into politics well
37:39at least in politics you'd have more people laughing at you than ever well you'd hope so thank you thank
37:44you pat so thank you for the interview now uh before we go we have a little uh game we'd
37:49like
37:49to play with you so you had this show hughesie we have a problem so you must be very good
37:55at solving
37:56problems and uh we actually have some problems uh any chance you could help us with them i look yes
38:04there is there's a chance i'd love to help you with your problem i'll go first i can't stop farting
38:10wrong which is very embarrassing how should i stop it from happening look i look i also have
38:16that problem better an empty house than a bad tenant so that's what they say so so um my wife
38:23is not
38:23happy with it she i our house that we built we should have put more walls in i can be
38:29at one corner
38:30of the house and she's at the other corner upstairs like she's like 50 meters from me and i fart
38:36and she
38:36goes hurt it i'm like it's not my fault this house has terrible acoustics we should have put in more
38:43walls just concrete floors are bad you need carpet for your farting hughesie i have a problem my
38:51my mom has the best fashion in her wardrobe and she i keep seeing her clothes but but then she's
38:57taking them back how can i stay with them without her knowing well i think you're you don't need to
39:03change your mother needs to change her attitude oh yeah but it's a compliment she should be happy
39:18that you you admire her fashion this is a what you're doing is complimenting her every time you
39:25wear her outfits you know you're like mom i believe in your fashion choices i believe in your taste come
39:31on
39:31mom oh my god that was so bad i'm sorry mom i didn't mean no no i think i think
39:35we've helped
39:36both of you there hughesie i have a problem i mistakenly told my mom my vegan friends were vegetarian
39:44not vegan and she cooked a dinner with eggs and honey in it do i tell them or do i
39:49take my that secret to
39:50my grave i think i look as a vegan you take it to your grave and um because i'm sure
39:56they enjoyed that food
40:00every now and again i just don't want to know you know so i don't want to know eggs are
40:05great i miss

40:29some some electric fence around it well i do have a horn which goes i love that that sounds like
