00:36Today we are in beautiful Kelowna, BC where Eva and her daughter Sarah are on the hunt for Eva's
00:42dream home. I love all the little touches. It just feels like I want to I want to make an
00:48apple pie.
00:52Eva and her husband have recently retired and are now empty nesters, ready to find a place they can
00:57truly call their own. We're very outdoorsy. We love doing those kind of activities. Really wanted to
01:02have a recreational area where there's golf and there's water, hiking and mountain biking. We're
01:09set to showcase three unique properties for them. I have a feeling that choosing their forever home
01:14won't be so easy. Let's go. If it's as nice as this, I mean, it's going to be able to
01:20make a choice.
01:21Well, I'm glad I don't have to make a decision.
01:26We're here in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia with Eva and her daughter Sarah.
01:30They're looking for the perfect family home with enough room to entertain all the kids
01:34and their pets. If we can manage it, we're looking for something with a pretty good view as well.
01:40I think we're off to a good start. Let's go see what we can find them.

02:51I mean, we've got a couple of really interesting houses lined up today. Oh, we're thrilled. We're so excited.
02:56First of all, I know. I mean, trust me, wait till you see this first one. Oh, yeah.
02:59But what I really want to do is I want to get the backstory. So, you're not from Kelowna area
03:03originally, are you?
03:04No. Presently, we live in Calgary. We are looking to move into the interior of British Columbia, into the Okanagan
03:19region.
03:22I've brought my daughter Sarah with me because she is my youngest daughter and we've been through a lot
03:28together and my husband can't make it so she's his proxy. Yeah, we do everything together so we thought
03:35that this would be another thing we would do together. She can help me and I trust her and
03:40she trusts me implicitly and my husband particularly trusts her as well. We're looking for a house that
03:45is going to be our forever home. What's important to us right now at our stage of life because we're
03:51not
03:51working anymore is a lifestyle that embraces the outdoors. Another must-have is a beautiful kitchen.
03:58A nice kitchen. I don't want to renovate. I don't want to build. I want something absolutely turnkey.
04:07So, I've got a few houses lined up that I think we're really going to like but first of all,
04:11let's talk, you know, budget range. 14, 15 million at the top end.
04:17Yeah. Now, I have lined up three pretty spectacular homes that we can look at.
04:21The first one we're going to check out today, it's right on the lake.
04:30I mean, first impressions just driving down that driveway with the lake, the backdrop.
04:36I have no words. I have no words.
04:43So, let's get at it. I would say let's go take a look.

04:55Felt very natural. Felt very comfortable.
04:58The house was clearly centered around the view with the big windows.

05:11Yeah, it's beautiful. Yeah, I mean, it's spectacular. I mean, I can see everything.

05:22So, what do you say we take a little gander around the compound and go check out the kitchen?
05:26Oh, wonderful. My husband loves to cook, so.
05:29Well, that's good. We'll be putting him to work then.

05:39Well, I mean, if you like open concept kitchens, I think we've found the right one for you.
05:44Oh yeah. When you have such an open kitchen and people are cooking,
05:48you tend to get a lot of stuff that ends up on the counter. So, that would be the only
05:53drawback.
05:54She really likes a lot of elbow room and kitchens. Like, no one can be anywhere. She's the only
05:59cook in the kitchen, so it's good that it's big. And there's two sinks, so that's really nice.

06:09Okay, well, why don't you two head downstairs, check out all the surprises down there,
06:13and I'm going to head out by the pool. Don't get lost.
06:21Wow. They have a poker room. Dad would love the wine bar.
06:28I don't think we're going to use the poker room. I thought that the poker room was a little
06:32unnecessary because we never play poker. Oh, and there's a gym and a home theater, Sarah.
06:39That would be so much fun for the family. Wouldn't that be awesome?
06:52You found me? Yes. I was very tempted to, you know, swim over to the bar. The outdoor living space
06:58is fantastic because, you know, if it is raining, there's still spots you can even cook outside if
07:02you wanted to. Oh, I know. It's got that outdoor kitchen. The future putting green. What were they
07:05thinking? Why didn't they put that in? Jeepers creepers. All right, we'll cross this one off the
07:10list then. It just won't do. They were downstairs gambling, that's why. Oh, okay. Now, what did you
07:15guys think about the downstairs area? So, I thought it was great. I thought there were some things that
07:20we didn't really need. And then what about the bedrooms? I mean, we've got the big family.
07:23Bedrooms are spectacular. So much room, and every bedroom has an en suite, and every bedroom has a
07:29beautiful view. What do you think roughly this house is listed for? Somewhere in the teens, I would think.
07:35It seems like a feat of engineering to put it on the side of a cliff like this. Oh, yeah.

07:39is... I would say it's probably around 15. Not higher than that, hopefully. Okay. This is just a hair
07:47below 13. So, you got a little extra wiggle room to put the putting green in. Are you kidding me?

08:49first impression? You know what? I love the concrete. I love the rock. I love the steel,
08:55and it's got that beautiful modern design with the glass. We're going to walk into this house,
09:00and honestly, it's all brand new smart tech. This isn't saying much, but it's smarter than I am.
09:06While we've seen the outside, what do you say we go take a look inside? Oh, yeah. I can't wait.

09:44The ceilings aren't as high for the kitchen, but I think that's okay.
09:48No, I think it's very nice. It feels very cozy, and even though the home is modern,
09:52it feels warm. The natural environment, the trees from the outdoors,
09:56and of course, you've got that beautiful lake view.

10:03All you hear is the chirping of the birds. You're at the top of the tree line if you look
10:07out there.
10:07Oh, you are at the top of the tree line. It's a little nicer than my tree house growing up.

11:49So what do we think this spaceship is worth?
11:52You know, in the teens somewhere. What teens? I don't know, but north of 15, I would think.

11:59I can see that it took a lot of engineering to build this house. I mean, 13, 14.

12:52Having visited the Okanagan a few times before, I wanted to delve a little deeper into what makes the region
12:58so ideal for wine growing.

13:04Intro cheers. Now, tell us a little bit about Quail's Gate. I mean, I've been here before, but I want
13:09to know all the history.
13:10Our family has been pioneering farmers in the Okanagan for over 100 years now. So my great-grandfather arrived here
13:17in 1908.
13:18Why did the family over 100 years ago pick this spot?
13:21The early 80s into the 90s, this was the retirement mecca of Canada. We now know it as the wine
13:26capital of Canada.
13:27We have incredible microclimates. My great-grandfather actually followed his brother here.
13:32And the messaging to him in his letter to Ireland was,
13:34I found this incredible place called the Okanagan Valley. We can make a new life for ourselves there.
13:39And I think that that's what a lot of people feel when they come to the Okanagan,
13:42is that this is somewhere they could build a life. It's got incredible four-season climate.
13:47You go straight from hot sunny beaches and, you know, 30 to 40 degree weather in the summer to,
13:52you know, three or four ski hills that you could drive to and do a half-day skiing if you
13:56wanted to and return.
13:56365, there's something to do here.
13:58You can live within a neighborhood surrounded by vineyards and by orchards.
14:03So we have maintained that farming community.
14:06What more could you really want? You've got the beautiful lake in the background.
14:08You've got access to obviously beautiful wine. I mean, thank you.
14:13And thank you to all of your family for starting here because I know we're very happy for it.

14:22As much as I would have loved to stay and sample a few more glasses of wine,
14:26it's time for our last house on today's hunt.
14:29A warm and cozy home offering all the luxury one could desire.
14:34Well, quite the entrance.

14:37I mean, just walking through, seeing these sprawling views.
14:41First impressions on the actual home.
14:44I feel a tremendous warmth here.
14:46Oh.
14:46A tremendous inviting, like being in my mother's uterus as a baby cocooned.
14:53That's a little much.
14:53I feel like I could come, go into the bedroom and have a nap.
14:56So I'll describe it a little differently.
15:04The living area is smaller and the family room area is smaller, but cozy nonetheless.
15:10And there's a lot to be said for that.
15:12So it really felt like you were sort of still on the side of a mountain because as you can
15:19see,
15:19they've got lots of that natural rock peeking through.
15:22There's actually two kitchens, one for entertaining, one for kind of more family style.
15:26So I'd love to show you a little bit more of the property.

16:08No, it's a beautiful kitchen.
16:09It truly is with a nice big TV right there too.

19:35I loved the house, and particularly the grounds.

19:39And the house itself was gorgeous, too.
19:42Lots of space, lots of recreation area in the house.
19:47So secluded.
19:48I mean, the neighbours aren't peering in.
19:50You can walk around and do whatever you want.
19:52You know, the puppies can run free.
19:54And it was a great start to the day.
19:55I mean, Sarah, does that check a lot of boxes for you?
19:58Because we know you're the decision maker here.
19:59Yes, I loved it.
20:00A great pool, great views, like elbow room like my mom loves.
20:05So that's important.

20:10What did we think about the second house?
20:13Let's start off with the pros.
20:14I mean, the view to start was...
20:16Yes, the second house, just the modern architecture was really phenomenal.
20:21I loved the steel, the concrete.
20:23The quality of workmanship that went into the house was superb.
20:27As was the first house, but this was newer.

20:30So it was brand spanking new.
20:32Oh, yeah.
20:32I mean, we were basically the first ones in there, so...
20:34The furnishings were spectacular.
20:36Just, it was a beautiful home.
20:38Attention to detail, every centimeter throughout the whole house, which was incredible.
20:42Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

20:49So we like one and two.

20:51Number three, we had to rush in because we got caught in a little liquid sunshine there.
20:56But still, I mean, the grounds there, it is about three acres.

21:00You don't think it is, but the house is spread out.

21:06Lovely home, very homey, feels warm and cuddly and loved it.
21:13But I think I was going for, I'm looking for a little bit more of a modern vibe.
21:16Kind of cluttered, I felt like, and tight.
21:19And yeah, I think they were looking for something more modern.
21:22Eventually, we do have to make a choice.
21:23My push for getting all three, I think, is being slowly pushed out the door.
21:28So, if we had to eliminate just one to make the decision easier, which one would we get rid of

21:38It was gorgeous.
21:39But I think for our purposes, I think that would be the last on the list.
21:42And you know, I was like looking at the other house on the outside, on the exterior,
21:46and I just thought they were more spectacular, more beautiful than the exterior of the last house.
21:52Even though the interior was, you know, very homey and very special.
21:55So, we've narrowed it down, but we still have to pick.
