00:00No, Spain isn't handing out thousands of euros
00:03to newly regularised migrants.
00:09Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez
00:11will give Spain's regularised migrants
00:132,800 euros per month per family
00:17for two years until they find a job.
00:19That's according to an alleged front page
00:21of a Spanish newspaper
00:22known as El Diario de España
00:24which has gone viral among Spanish-language
00:27social media users.
00:28It refers to Madrid's recent measure
00:30to grant an estimated 500,000
00:32undocumented migrants legal status
00:35by allowing them to apply
00:36for a renewable one-year residence permit
00:38provided they can prove they've lived in Spain
00:40for at least five months.
00:42However, the front page and its claims are false.
00:45Simply put, the news outlet
00:47El Diario de España doesn't even exist
00:49with no trace of it having a website.
00:51The supposed date of publication of the article
00:53is the 24th of May 2024
00:55but that doesn't make any sense
00:57because the Spanish government
00:59only announced its regularisation plan
01:01in January 2026.
01:03It features a picture of Sánchez
01:04standing behind a lectern
01:06which says inclusion and social cohesion plan
01:082024-2026
01:10but an online search yields
01:12no evidence of this plan existing either.
01:15The text of the royal decree
01:16establishing the regularisation programme
01:18does not refer to migrants
01:20receiving 2,800 euros.
01:22Madrid has denied
01:23that it will be handing out
01:24such a sum every month
01:25reiterating that those benefiting from the measure
01:28will be able to reside
01:29and work in Spain legally.
01:31The regularisation plan
01:32officially came into force in April
01:34and has been the subject
01:35of much controversy and misinformation.
01:38The Cube has already debunked instances
01:40of French politicians
01:41claiming that migrants
01:42regularised in Spain
01:44will be able to settle in France
01:45alongside others falsely alleging
01:48that they'll be automatically granted
01:49the right to vote.
