00:00Millions of us across the UK are struggling to pay our bills so we are
00:03having to be more savvier with the way we shop. I'm Lynne Beattie and I'm a
00:07personal finance expert otherwise known as Mrs Mummy Penny and I'm here to help
00:10you save money on your supermarket shop. So planning your meals and writing your
00:15shopping list is essential to do before heading out to the shops. Go through your
00:19fridge, your freezer, your cupboards to make sure you haven't already got the
00:23stuff that's on your list, think about the meals for that week and then go off
00:27to the supermarket. The frozen aisle, you can get so much great stuff there. What I
00:31love about frozen food is number one it's cheaper but also it's much better for
00:35waste. You can get all kinds of fruit and veg and actually they're frozen at the
00:40point of picking so they hold on to the nutrients as well so it's better for you
00:43as well as the environment and your pocket. So when you get to the
00:47supermarket, ignore what the supermarket wants you to do and walk it in this
00:51order. The reduced section, look for those yellow sticker bargains. Then you go to
00:55the frozen section, get what you can from there. Then you go to the can section again
01:00another bargain area to shop and then you can finally go to the fresh area of the
01:05supermarket and get the rest of what's on your list. So when you're choosing your
01:08items and there's information on the shelf edge label which gives you like
01:12price per hundred grams or price per kilo, it's quite interesting to compare the
01:17different sized products because sometimes smaller sized products have a better cost
01:23per hundred grams than bigger sized products because the smaller size might have a
01:26promotion on it. So always look at that smaller numbers on the shelf edge label.
01:31So it's worth thinking about no meat alternatives when you're planning your meal
01:35for the week. We all want to be more thoughtful about the environment and more
01:39conscious about what we eat and one of the big things we can do is eat less
01:42meat. Look for deals that might be on no meat alternatives whilst you're in the supermarket shop.
01:47So
01:49you
