Sixers and Joel Embiid completing a 3-1 comeback, LeBron finishing off the Rockets, and pair of Game 7s. The NBA Playoffs are getting really good.
Transcript
00:00Did you get to watch Sixers-Celtics?
00:02Yeah.
00:03Embiid, if he does that every other game, he'll be a badass.
00:09Dude.
00:10He played.
00:11Who was the guard that?
00:13Maxie.
00:13Jalen Brown just shoves everybody.
00:15That's what he does.
00:16The Celtics forward.
00:17He shoved, was it Maxie, right into Embiid's knee towards the end of that game?
00:22And I was like, oh, man.
00:24This dude, Joel Embiid is a world-class talent, undeniably.
00:30But he's also kind of made a glass.
00:32Like, the injuries just continue to be an issue for him.
00:35He doesn't really go all the time.
00:39And I just think that sometimes, you know, I've had this comment about athletes in this day and age,
00:44and it's not the athlete's fault.
00:46I think the people above the athlete, they have been the problem.
00:50They don't allow them to push the limits.
00:53You think back in the day, guys were able to push the limit, had to push the limit.
00:58Because basketball, as soon as somebody looked like he's hampered, oh, take him out.
01:04Sit him down.
01:05Baseball.
01:06After four innings, they're looking to pull the pitcher out.
01:09Back in the day, they had guys doing doubleheaders, pitching out every damn inning.
01:1418 of them.
01:16But complete games.
01:18We don't allow athletes to push themselves today.
01:21And I think if you allow that, they'll get stronger, and they can understand how far they can go.
01:26I do think...
01:30I thought Tatum not playing game seven was pretty interesting.
01:37He's messed up.
01:38The one thing I'm not...
01:40Like, in the load, man, I do think it was a little bit of, like, Boston...
01:44I don't think the actual basketball organization wanted this.
01:49But I think for Celtics fans, who...
01:52Boston fans are wildly annoying, right?
01:54And I think for Celtics fans, it gave them kind of this built-in...
02:00Like, oh, you know, we lost to the Sixers, but Tatum wasn't right, and he had to sit out game
02:04seven.
02:05This is no big deal.
02:06And for Sixers fans, beating the Celtics, coming back from 3-1, means a lot.
02:11It means a lot.
02:12And I think Boston fans get to kind of, like, dismiss it.
02:15They can dismiss what they want.
02:16Injuries are a part of sport.
02:19And if you lose because of that injury, guess what?
02:21You maybe didn't manage it properly.
02:23Because him coming back this year, after what happened last year,
02:27you know that you're going to have some level of injuries happening on the other leg.
02:32That happens.
02:34It just happened to come at the most inopportune time.
02:37That's why I thought sitting Tatum, after he came back fast from an Achilles,
02:43is...
02:44I had zero beef with Tatum sitting out that game.
02:47When he's got a calf thing going, you've got to sit down, young man.
02:51That is completely fine.
02:52Hell yeah.
02:52I also think it's interesting.
02:56I don't know if you were with me in this capacity.
03:00But Sixers-Celtics very much held my attention.
03:07Whereas I had zero desire, care.
03:14Like, there were two Game 7s yesterday.
03:17Detroit-Orlando and Cleveland-Toronto.
03:21And like I said, I watched a lot of sports that I recorded to watch later.
03:26I had a marginal interest in Detroit-Orlando because of the novelty of an 8 beating a 1.
03:35Yeah.
03:36And, I mean, two young teams, too.
03:37But I didn't watch a lick.
03:38One of them, I thought...
03:39But the only reason I didn't watch it...
03:40That I recorded, but just didn't put it on.
03:42I didn't watch it because I'm on a flight coming back, and I'm going to just let you know...
03:45You were sleeping.
03:46I saw the eyelids the whole time.
03:48That, I believe.
03:49I sat down, and I told the lady and the man next to me, I guess they were a couple,
03:53I'll
03:53say, listen, if I start snoring too loud, you have the right to shove me, whatever.
03:58You know, one time I woke myself up.
04:00And I just said, I'm sorry.
04:02She said, that's the first time you snore.
04:05I was tired, bro.
04:08Cleveland-Toronto goes 7.
04:11I don't know that I saw a minute of that series.
04:14Did you?
04:15I saw maybe about...
04:17Now, maybe it's like on in a bar when I'm in a bar.
04:19I've seen, like...
04:20I saw maybe a game.
04:21Okay.
04:22Total.
04:23Now, like, I'm here for...
04:25You get to the second round.
04:26These series should be good.
04:27So, the Pistons avoid being a one seed losing to an eight.
04:30They win game seven.
04:32That Pistons-Orlando series was just rock fights all day.
04:36Like, nobody can make shots.
04:37But now, we're set up in the NBA for some good hoops.
04:41We got...
04:42I mean, Knicks Sixers tonight is juicy.
04:46Seriously.
04:47And maybe that's just, like, a bit of East Coast bias and knowing those fan bases.
04:51But I'm excited about that one.
04:52All of a sudden, and you saw this in game seven, which I really watched, of Sixers-Celtics.
04:58The Sixers really don't have a bench.
05:00But their starting five is loaded.
05:03Yeah.
05:04Edgecombe, Maxie, Paul George.
05:06George, Enmead.
05:07Kelly Oubre?
05:08And he's, like...
05:10Oubre with the different color hair, but the boy can play, man.
05:13Watching Kelly Oubre, when was he drafted by the Wiz?
05:16Like, 2017?
05:17He's been in the league a while, man.
05:19And he's had a good career.
05:21Very good career.
05:21Give me Kelly Oubre's draft.
05:23He was, like, the 20th overall pick by Ernie Grunfeld in 20...
05:27I feel like he played with Gilbert.
05:28I know that's not possible.
05:29He played with probably Wall and Beal, but...
05:312015, pick number 15.
05:342015, pick 15.
05:35That's 11 years in the league.
05:3711 years in the league, dog.
05:37That's crazy, man.
05:38Remember, he was, like, the first dude I remember as, like, the short shorts started coming back.
05:43I feel like Oubre was the first dude on that short shorts train.
05:46Yeah.
05:48So, I'm excited.
05:49What was Dennis Rodman?
05:49I'm excited for where the hoops is at now.
05:52Pistons, Cavs, I will kind of watch it when it's on.
05:56Nick Sixers, I'll be locked in.
05:59Thunder Lakers.
06:00What LeBron is doing.
06:01What is Luka's status?
06:03Is there any chance?
06:04Because, like, on these podcasts, people are like, oh, I don't know about Luka.
06:08I don't know about Luka.
06:09That's a different series of Luka's back.
06:11We know he doesn't play defense.
06:12I think the Thunder still should beat him.
06:14Because during this regular season, they beat him, what, 117 points?
06:19They outscored him by that or more?
06:20I think the Thunder are probably heavy favorites.
06:23So, like, yeah, they should beat him.
06:25But watching LeBron at this stage of it, he's 41, B.
06:31Like, it's pretty damn cool.
06:33And whether you're a LeBron guy or not, and I'm probably more in the not, but, like, I can appreciate
06:39what this dude is doing at this stage of his career.
06:42Yeah.
06:43But, B, I think the coolest stories going right now, I think, are the Sixers and then the Spurs.
06:51The Spurs are, so, I went out for a golf tournament, and one of the guys, Brevin Knight.
06:58Yeah, I remember him.
06:59So, Brevin.
07:00I said, Brevin, I said, bro, what are your thoughts of the Spurs?
07:06He said, man, he said, at first, I was just like any other American basketball player.
07:10I was, like, bringing all these foreign players, blah, blah, blah.
07:12He said, but, dude, this dude right here, he affects a game by just standing up.
07:19So, he don't have to jump.
07:20He just stand up and put his hands up.
07:22And he started talking about, he said, now, if he stays healthy, whoever they play, they're going to push.
07:29But he has to stay healthy.
07:30Yeah.
07:31You know what I'm saying?
07:32You start thinking about when we fall, we worried about, he's falling from way up there.
07:37So, we had Drew Gooden on the show last week.
07:39And Drew played in the league at a really high level for a long time.
07:43I think he told us he had 14 years in the NBA.
07:45Yeah.
07:45And he said, I guess he knows, I think he was talking with, if I recall this correctly,
07:50he was talking with Wembenyama's father one night.
07:53Okay.
07:53And he was saying, he's like, Victor's incredible, but he's got to learn how to fall.
07:57And when you're that big, think about the big guys don't go down to the ground like guards do.
08:02And he's going down to the ground so often.
08:04Yeah, he fell flat on his face the other day.
08:06And so, no, he don't know how to fall.
08:08Right.
08:08So, like we used to talk about, Robert learned how to slide.
08:11He needs to learn how to fall.
08:12Because falling flat on your face, bro, from 7'6", not going to be good for you very often.
08:17So, taking a quick look at these series.
08:20Knicks, Sixers, the Knicks are heavy favorites.
08:22Minus 270, Phillies plus 220.
08:24Which, honestly, sounds a little intriguing.
08:2750 bucks to win 110.
08:29Man, no surprise that the Spurs are favorites to beat the T-Wolves.
08:36I'm surprised by these numbers, though.
08:38By how much?
08:40San Antonio's minus 1,200 to win this series.
08:43Damn.
08:43Minnesota's plus 700.
08:457-1.
08:46Damn.
08:47They just took out Jokic.
08:49Yes.
08:51Pistons is...
08:51And it's not just, what's it called anymore?
08:55Because, like, when you used to look at Minnesota, you thought it was his aunt.
08:57He got some help now.
09:00Pistons, that series is basically a coin flip.
09:02Detroit's minus 120.
09:04Cleveland's even money.
09:06Damn.
09:09I assume Luka's not coming back.
09:11Did I get a Luka update from the Aquarium?
09:13Definitely not the first two.
09:14The first two games, for sure.
09:16So, they say maybe game three in L.A.?
09:19Maybe.
09:19Yo, they won't make an announcement on that.
09:21And those ticket prices will be banana land.
09:25What do you think OKC is as a favorite in this?
09:28More or less than San Antonio?
09:31You're asking the question.
09:32It's probably more.
09:34OKC minus 1,600.
09:36That's what I'm saying.
09:37Lakers are plus 9-1.
09:39I was just sitting in there, and I saw that thing pop up that they...
09:43What was it?
09:44Minus 1.
09:45They beat them by 117-172.
09:49That's mine.
09:50Over the...
09:50They probably played each other four times?
09:52During the regular season.
09:52OK.
09:53The Thunder remain prohibited favorite to win.
09:56Minus 145 to win it all.
09:58The Spurs at plus 370 is kind of juicy.
10:01Because San Antonio, in the regular season, matched up...
10:04Didn't they go 3-1 against the Thunder in the regular season?
10:08Mm-hmm.
10:09I mean...
10:10So...
10:11I kind of like the Spurs at plus 370.
10:13I kind of like the Sixers at plus 4,000.
10:17I mean...
10:18Plus 4,000 means 10 bucks wins you 400, right?
10:21Mm-hmm.
10:22That kind of...
10:24At least an interesting little flyer.
10:26Well, you know...
10:27I'm going to put like 5 cents on it.
10:29What will 5 cents win you at plus 4,000, Dubby?
10:3320 bucks?
10:34Might be worth it.
10:35That'd be a great payday for him.
10:37That's a come-up right there.
