00:00He got the point of sports.
00:02The point of sports is supposed to be fun, right?
00:04Like, this is what we try to teach our kids now
00:06as they play their own sports.
00:07When I grew up, when you grew up,
00:10obviously you're a Mets fan, I'm a Yankee fan.
00:12In 96, I'm 9 years old.
00:1497, I'm 10 years old.
00:15Like, I'm at that vulnerable age
00:16where I'm leaving Little League games
00:18and my dad's got the Yankees in the car.
00:19And then, you know, we're turning off
00:21the ninth inning TV-wise
00:22because you want to hear John Sterling
00:24give you the Yankees win.
00:26It took me a little bit to understand
00:28who John Sterling was as a young kid,
00:29but I knew this.
00:30He made baseball really fun for me.
00:33And as much as I loved all the Bernie Williams moments,
00:36the Paul O'Neill moments,
00:37the Derek Jeter moments,
00:38to me, they go hand in hand
00:40with how John Sterling made those moments sound
00:43to somebody like me.
00:45There was no chance in my life
00:46to ever utter these words,
00:48baseball is boring.
00:49Because how could it be boring as a Yankee fan
00:51growing up with John freaking Sterling
00:52making you laugh, cry, and laugh again
00:55all along the way.
00:56And that's what he meant to me.
