00:00:00Oh, what a go! Oh, look at that! Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:05Rooney O'Hall!
00:00:07Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:49Hello, three games on tonight's Match of the Day.
00:00:52Big matches in the race for Europe and a huge one at the bottom of the table.
00:00:56You can also vote for April's Goal of the Month.
00:00:58And big games means the big hitters are in.
00:01:01Good evening, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer.
00:01:04And good evening to the rest of our regular pundits.
00:01:06West Ham's defeat against Brentford yesterday meant that a win would lift Spurs out of the bottom three.
00:01:12They faced Aston Villa this evening and your commentator is Mark Scott.
00:01:17While West Ham's loss would have given Spurs a lift, Roberto Deserbi's been trying to rev his men up too,
00:01:24telling them they have to silence the negative voices inside of them.
00:01:29Tottenham haven't had the positives against Villa this season, losing in both League and Cup to them already.
00:01:34But it is a much-changed side they face tonight with Martinez, Cash, Tielemans and Rodgers,
00:01:40the only ones who also started the Europa League loss at Forest on Thursday.
00:01:45Spurs' long-awaited and much-needed league win last weekend came at a cost with Simmons and Solanke.
00:01:52The latest names added to the injury list, Tell and Richarlison replaced them with Udoggi and Paulinia in for the
00:02:00bench, Spence and Gersouma.
00:02:04Important for Villa, vital for Spurs, can they take advantage of West Ham's wobble yesterday and climb above the Hammers
00:02:13into safety?
00:02:17Barclay didn't get there, Barkley didn't get there, Benteco onto it, Richarlison early chance which he snatched at.
00:02:23Richarlison on the swivel saw his strike, actually taken off his toes by the backtracking Uri Tielemans.
00:02:32One down, four to go for Roberto Deservi, reckon Spurs can win all of their final matches, which is pretty
00:02:38punchy given they've only managed eight wins all season.
00:02:43Pedro Porro, Lysin Colomorani, wings is across, Martinez had come out as well, wins off for safety first.
00:02:54No John McKinnon in the Villa squad today, Unai Emery says that he's not 100%, so they decided not to
00:03:00risk him with the second leg of that Europa League semi coming up against Forrest here on Thursday.
00:03:07That's going to be a long delivery from Danso here.
00:03:12Danteco couldn't get to it, Gallagher will, he might have a pop here, oh, Connor Gallagher!
00:03:18His first goal for Tottenham, and it could be seismic for Spurs!
00:03:26What a way, and what a time, to get your first goal for the club!
00:03:32Oh, they believe now that the escape is on, Tottenham in front early, thanks to Connor Gallagher!
00:03:40Looked like the danger had been dealt with from the initial throw, but Connor Gallagher had other ideas.
00:03:46One touch to bring it down, the next to hook it, beyond Martinez and in, and Spurs find themselves in
00:03:54front, and on course, to escape the relegation zone.
00:03:59Villa nil, Spurs one.
00:04:02Tottenham decent value for their lead.
00:04:07Here's Kohler Mouane, three to aim for in the area.
00:04:11Kohler Mouane nearly finds Richarlison.
00:04:14Paulinho urges to have a hit, obliges, and hits the post!
00:04:20Flag's up now.
00:04:22A close shave for Aston Villa there, as Jao Paulinho, the hero in the Midlands last weekend, nearly gave Spurs
00:04:31daylight at Villa.
00:04:34Well, Unai Emery wants energy from the fans, they're doing their best to try and get the Villa team going.
00:04:42Gallagher.
00:04:45Tell.
00:04:46Dangerous for Charleston, it's up there!
00:04:48And Martinez makes a save from Kohler Mouane.
00:04:52Another chance for Tottenham to go two up.
00:04:54And again, Martinez is able to save the day for Villa.
00:04:590-1 picking up Randall Kohler Mouane, and patted over the top by Martinez.
00:05:11It's gone all the way across, and Danso, that was travelling, the doggie.
00:05:19Villa look ragged right now, Spurs sets bluff, and it's two!
00:05:23It's for Charleston, Tottenham Hotspur in Dreamland!
00:05:28Who would have seen this coming?
00:05:31Spurs 2-0 up, inside of 25 minutes!
00:05:39They can barely believe it, and the Tottenham fans are probably struggling to take it in two.
00:05:46Just look at the amount of time and space that Spurs had on the ball here, and boy, did they
00:05:52make it pay!
00:05:53Richarlison not picked up properly, and as soon as he got on the end of that gorgeous ball in from
00:05:59Matisse Tal,
00:06:00there was only going to be one end result.
00:06:04Villa 0, Spurs 2, this is no smash and grab.
00:06:08Tottenham fully deserving of their two-goal lead.
00:06:13And Aston Villa look like the side in the relegation zone right now.
00:06:17I've not seen many Aston Villa games this season, but I would wager a fair amount that this is probably
00:06:22one of the worst halves
00:06:24that they have had this season.
00:06:25He might agree with me, he certainly does.
00:06:31Villa's recent league form has been a bit patchy, but they do still have one of the best home records
00:06:35this season.
00:06:3635 points from 17 games, so this is very out of character for them.
00:06:44Gallagher, side down by Barkley, who will become the first Villa player in the book.
00:06:51Spurs on their way out of the drop zone and on course for back-to-back league wins for the
00:06:56first time since the first week of the season.
00:07:02Rodgers passes on here for Abraham, Tammy Abraham, while the speed and execution of the tackle from Van Leven gets
00:07:11Spurs out of jail.
00:07:13Could have been the first serious sight of Kinski's goal for Villa, but Van Leven judged it perfectly.
00:07:22He'd have been furious with the first half, he'll be equally disappointed with the second, I think,
00:07:27because there's been no sign of any kind of response, almost as if they're resigned to their fate this evening.
00:07:38Telemans, Binks, Binks, Bailey, for the kick.
00:08:00Bailey, with this corner, with 90 seconds of the 90 minutes to play.
00:08:09And headed over the top, and that's as good as it's got for Villa this evening.
00:08:14Tyrone Mings was up, I think it might have just come off his shoulder.
00:08:17This is the best that Aston Villa have conjured up in front of goal all night.
00:08:22It wasn't exactly great, was it?
00:08:25I've had many enjoyable experiences this season, but those Spurs fans are drinking in every minute of this.
00:08:47Telemans, Lindelof, now Bailey.
00:08:56Buendia, Villa on the board, but there is barely enough time for the game to be restarted.
00:09:04It's their first effort on target, and it's ended up in the back of the Spurs net.
00:09:10Beautiful ball in from Matty Cash, and guided in ever so well by Emi Buendia.
00:09:15Little chance for Kinski with that, but little chance of it meaning anything in terms of the result tonight.
00:09:27Spurs storm out of the relegation zone.
00:09:30They have been brilliant tonight, and suddenly look like a team brimming with belief.
00:09:36And their crews against an abject Aston Villa tonight spells trouble for another side in Clariton Blue,
00:09:44as West Ham now drop below the dotted line.
00:09:49Aston Villa 1, Tottenham Hotspur 2.
00:09:52What did you get so right today that meant that you dominated the game as you did?
00:09:57By the high pressure for sure, and the ball possession for me is not a surprise.
00:10:02It's not my credit because I'm lucky to work with a lot of very important players.
00:10:08Some people will say you made seven changes, and did that have an impact on how you played?
00:10:13What's your take on that?
00:10:17Last week we lost against Fulham.
00:10:20And which player played against Fulham?
00:10:23And which player played against Nottingham?
00:10:26And we lost two matches, and we lost as well with another player.
00:10:30Yes, OK, we lost and we can win with every player.
00:10:34Pressure becomes important at this stage of the season.
00:10:37You're now out of the relegation zone.
00:10:39West Ham in it.
00:10:40We have to feel the same pressure.
00:10:44Football is different, can change week by week.
00:10:48We can't forget what we felt before the Wolverhampton game
00:10:54and before the Palinha goal in Wolverhampton.
00:10:57And we were light, and so we have to push again.
00:11:01And I can't permit anyone to think in a different way than me.
00:11:06I actually pretty much forgot I scored towards the end of the game
00:11:09because I was so focused on just us getting the win
00:11:13that I forgot about my goal early on.
00:11:15But, yeah, looking back now in the change room, it was a nice goal.
00:11:20I took it well, and hopefully there's a few more to come.
00:11:23You can look back at it on Match of the Day tonight as well,
00:11:25if I can talk you into watching it.
00:11:26Yeah, I will do. Don't worry about that.
00:11:29Sure, he was very convinced about that, which is unflattering, to say the least.
00:11:34Don't be nervous, but he is watching.
00:11:37Look, it was good as Spurs as well as Spurs have played in a long time,
00:11:41and it was right from the off that they set their intentions up, Micah.
00:11:45Yeah, they pressed high from the front from the start of the game.
00:11:47I thought they were exceptional in terms of how they set up.
00:11:51And I just want to look at it because Spurs have been playing a bit lower.
00:11:56But against Villa today, they were brave.
00:11:59And Rich Charleston really did his work for his team.
00:12:03But the good thing is about this.
00:12:05When you press high like this, obviously you've got to block the lines, exactly what they did.
00:12:09And then they're going man to man.
00:12:11But the key part is Barkley in the centre of the pitch.
00:12:14Your defender has to be brave and jump.
00:12:16And that's exactly what Danso did.
00:12:18And then Rich Charleston gets an opportunity, which he should have passed.
00:12:22Again, Colomani, Conor Gallagher, Benton Kern, Rich Charleston, blocking the middle of the pitch
00:12:28because you know Villa like to occupy the middle of the pitch.
00:12:32And they didn't allow them to play in that middle and then get the ball wide.
00:12:37And that's because they were aggressive on the press and they were brave in doing that.
00:12:42And the defenders have to buy into it.
00:12:44Rich Charleston, I mentioned again, Colomani, really good in occupying the defenders,
00:12:51force it in one way and then everyone can jump on.
00:12:54This time it's Van der Ben on Barkley and it made it so difficult for Villa to play
00:12:59and they didn't know what to do.
00:13:01And then when they got the ball, they were composed on the ball.
00:13:03But this was the best clip for me.
00:13:07Although nothing came for it in terms of what they did here and scoring,
00:13:10but what it did do, it forced a throw in.
00:13:14And from the resulting throw in, Danzo with his long throw.
00:13:17And this is Conor Gallagher we've talked about.
00:13:19He talked about his finish.
00:13:21Look at that for a touch and look at that for a finish.
00:13:25Absolutely brilliant.
00:13:26And that was all in the first 12 minutes.
00:13:29They started bright.
00:13:30They were confident.
00:13:31They had a game plan.
00:13:32They stuck to the tactics.
00:13:33And I just thought they were outstanding today.
00:13:36I really did.
00:13:37So they started with that intensity and their intent was obvious as well.
00:13:41And the number of second balls they won, Alan.
00:13:43They won every single tackle.
00:13:44They won every single second ball.
00:13:46And what they also did is they took the risk out of their game in terms of not playing from
00:13:52the back
00:13:52in unnecessary circumstances.
00:13:54And they did that.
00:13:55And when I said they won every second ball, that's what I mean.
00:13:58They might not have won that first header.
00:13:59But what they did really well is engage and make sure they won the tackle after that.
00:14:04And then look at that.
00:14:05Look at that commitment.
00:14:07That is what you need when you're in desperate trouble.
00:14:10You need every single player at it.
00:14:13And Spurs were today.
00:14:14That's what I mean about taking the Villa press out.
00:14:17So they go long and then they commit men forward.
00:14:20And that's what they did.
00:14:21And now they outnumber Aston Villa in forward positions because of that long ball.
00:14:25Because Villa wanted to press them and at times they couldn't
00:14:27because they missed the press out.
00:14:30Really unlucky.
00:14:31But they get into that position because of the same thing again.
00:14:34He's got options.
00:14:35Kinski can pass it left or right.
00:14:37But the same thing again.
00:14:39Ball in behind.
00:14:39They don't win the first one.
00:14:41But look where the ball falls to because they're that brave
00:14:44and they're committing that many men forward into forward positions.
00:14:48Then getting the ball into the box when they do win it.
00:14:50And they've also got three in the box as well.
00:14:52They create another opportunity.
00:14:54But for a good save from Martinez.
00:14:56Second half, same thing.
00:14:57Look, miss the press out again.
00:14:59They go long.
00:15:00They don't win the first header.
00:15:01But they win that second ball.
00:15:03That was a constant right throughout the game.
00:15:05And that gave them the platform to go and play and to create chances.
00:15:10And again, look how many men they've got in forward positions.
00:15:13They were brave.
00:15:14They were aggressive.
00:15:15And they were absolutely outstanding and deserve to win that game.
00:15:19But the difference is, sorry, on that is when you go forward like that,
00:15:23if there's any ball that you wouldn't high up the pitch.
00:15:28When Spurs were winning the ball a little bit further back,
00:15:31they couldn't really get out.
00:15:32So if you look at the clips that Alan showed there,
00:15:34even if they lose it, they can get the second.
00:15:36If not the second, they can get the third.
00:15:38And that's because the defence and midfield and the forwards were all being brave with their press.
00:15:42And they were helped in their performance by the fact that Villa looked like they were lacking energy.
00:15:47And they looked like a team that had made seven changes, which is what Unai Emery did.
00:15:51They also looked like a team who have a Europa League semi-final that they're 1-0 down in to
00:15:57come on Thursday.
00:15:58And they looked like a team who are fairly comfortably in fifth place and a Champions League qualification spot.
00:16:04Yeah, although some people might criticise.
00:16:07I think the Villa fans there were a few boos at half-time in terms of the effort.
00:16:12The players that he put out today were more than capable of performing better than they did today.
00:16:16But if you look at the bigger picture in terms of the Champions League position
00:16:20and then the semi-final at Europa League, they're doing a great job.
00:16:24You're going to get those sort of performances sometimes.
00:16:26And it was just one of those today.
00:16:27They're in the semi-final.
00:16:29They've got it all to do in the return leg.
00:16:30They're in fifth, as you said.
00:16:31They've got a six-point gap.
00:16:33But if Unai Emery gets that team into the Champions League for next season,
00:16:38they've got two chances of doing that in the league and by winning the Europa League,
00:16:41he's entitled to change that team around and do whatever he wants to do.
00:16:44He's not worried about whatever the opposition or whoever thinks that's sport and integrity or whatever it is.
00:16:49It's his team.
00:16:50He can do what he wants.
00:16:51He's earned the right to do that.
00:16:53What about the relegation battle?
00:16:54What does this do to that?
00:16:56Because we thought it might be a straight shootout between Tottenham and West Ham.
00:17:00The thing is, now Tottenham are only two points behind Nottingham Forest.
00:17:04They play Chelsea tomorrow at Chelsea.
00:17:07So who knows what the gap could be come the end of the day.
00:17:10And now maybe three teams in the running to get relegated at the end of the season.
00:17:16It's been a terrible weekend for West Ham, hasn't it?
00:17:17With the result for them yesterday and the result that went against them to do with Spurs.
00:17:23So they have got it all to do.
00:17:25And looking at their fixtures as well,
00:17:27I think that game against Leeds United, possibly their best chance of getting three points.
00:17:31You can't predict.
00:17:32Every time we make a prediction, we get it wrong, don't we?
00:17:36But from those fixtures, I think West Ham have got it all to do.
00:17:39I think Spurs now have got that little bit of momentum.
00:17:42Even though the players have found a different way to be playing.
00:17:46Mainly Spurs fought with the technical players.
00:17:49It could go a different way.
00:17:50But with the intensity they showed today, they can win games.
00:17:53That's their standard now, Spurs.
00:17:54That is their standard.
00:17:55They've set the line there.
00:17:56They cannot fall below that line now in terms of energy.
00:18:00And if they keep that level up, could we safe coming in this season?
00:18:03We could keep that up, yeah.
00:18:04But I think De Zerbic needs a lot of credit for the way he set his team.
00:18:10It's one of those situations where you're in a relegation battle and you've got players who hide.
00:18:16None of those players hide, hid out there tonight.
00:18:18And I think the fact that he's giving them the confidence, I think that is the difference.
00:18:22Is there an element of frustration around Spurs, though, that they haven't done this so far this season?
00:18:27I know they've had some of those players missing at different points, but that they are capable of this.
00:18:32Well, it's actually trying to draw it out of them.
00:18:35And at the minute, they win last week, they win again today.
00:18:39So it looks as if the players are responding to what he's doing in training and what he's giving them,
00:18:43the feedback.
00:18:43Might yet be a good end to the season for Tottenham.
00:18:45Now it's time for April's Goal of the Month.
00:18:48Here are the contenders.
00:19:10Oh, brilliant.
00:19:12That is fabulous.
00:19:15From the 17-year-olds.
00:19:18What composure.
00:19:29Brooks, it's come through the stop.
00:19:31Big chance to win it.
00:19:33What a lovely goal by Bournemouth.
00:19:36They've been the better side, and it was a lovely move.
00:19:48Gross.
00:19:50Oh, what a finish that is.
00:19:53It's Karu Mitoma with a fantastic goal.
00:19:56A blistering volley.
00:20:09Solanke wants it.
00:20:11Seamont darts inside and scores.
00:20:15What a magnificent goal by Xavi Seamont for Tottenham Hotspur.
00:20:21That may very well be their most important goal of this season so far.
00:20:31First touch for the substitute Yates.
00:20:34Here's cross.
00:20:35Gibbs White's headed!
00:20:36Yeah!
00:20:42First, Courriette, Nottingham Forest, hat-trick.
00:20:53There was a gap to go for, and he's gone through!
00:21:02A super goal from a sublime footballer.
00:21:14Something different from Arsenal.
00:21:17Hubbard's.
00:21:18There's a brilliant!
00:21:22What a strike that is!
00:21:25An awful lot to do, but that's how to do it.
00:21:51And you can vote now for your favourite using the QR code on the screen, or you can just

00:22:07Three points separated Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of their game at Old Trafford.
00:22:12Both teams look likely to be playing Champions League football next season, but this fixture
00:22:16always matters.
00:22:18Comerty comes from Steve Wilson.
00:22:21The 218th meeting of these two northern powerhouses and familiarity is generally bred contempt.
00:22:29Football, music and a canal, it's all fed into more than a century's worth of antagonism
00:22:36and maybe, though, say it quietly, a bit of begrudging mutual respect.
00:22:41United make one change from the side which beat Brentford here on Monday.
00:22:45Matias Cunha in for Amadialo.
00:22:48Bruno Fernandes needs one more assist to equal the Premier League record of 20.
00:22:53A seriously depleted Liverpool are missing Alexander Isak with what Arna Slott says is a small injury
00:23:01to add to those suffered by Salah and Eketike.
00:23:04Freddie Woodman continues in goal.
00:23:07Gravenberg and Trimpong come in.
00:23:11Manchester United looking to do a league double over maybe their greatest rivals
00:23:17for the first time in a decade.
00:23:22It's a corner.
00:23:24He's got himself in some good positions early on in this game.
00:23:28Benny Manchesco got in front of Ibrahima Kanate there.
00:23:34Bilmo's corner.
00:23:36Robertson at the near post, driven in by Matias Cunha.
00:23:40And in!
00:23:41Matias Cunha scores for Manchester United inside six minutes.
00:23:48And Old Trafford erupts.
00:23:52Wasn't the best corner in all honesty.
00:23:54Robertson's clearing header.
00:23:56It bounced back to Cunha off Ryan Gravenberg.
00:24:01Liverpool are pointing for offside here.
00:24:05I'm not sure that Woodman's view is seriously impeded by any of the United players.
00:24:12It's flicked off the backside of Alexis McAllister.
00:24:18And Manchester United have the lead.
00:24:27McAllister's forward ball picked off by Kobi Maynou.
00:24:31Here's Brian and Burma for Manchester United.
00:24:34Good run from Bruno Fernandes.
00:24:36Looking for Sresko.
00:24:38Finding him!
00:24:39Woodman with the save.
00:24:41United are appealing that there was a foul on Benny Manchesco.
00:24:45Cunha.
00:24:46Shaw.
00:24:49And in from Sresko this time.
00:24:522-0 Manchester United.
00:24:54And we haven't played 15 minutes.
00:24:58Liverpool in big trouble here.
00:25:02Bruno Fernandes header.
00:25:04Pushed onto Sresko by Woodman.
00:25:08And it deflects into the Liverpool net.
00:25:10And it's Manchester United 2.
00:25:12It's Liverpool 0.
00:25:15They are looking at a possible hand ball.
00:25:20He just glanced off his left hand there.
00:25:25There's just been a flick off Sresko's left hand.
00:25:31Well, Darren England is getting instructions from Stuart Atwell.
00:25:34And he's telling the two captains what he's being told.
00:25:39And it's a goal.
00:25:45Well, no conclusive proof that it hit his fingertip.
00:25:50It was the VAR decision.
00:25:54Halfway through the first half.
00:25:56It's been fast and furious.
00:25:58And full of fun for Manchester United.
00:26:04And Gappo, well hit!
00:26:07Well, he struck it really well.
00:26:10That bent.
00:26:11It bent a lot, but not quite enough.
00:26:16Feels like a long way back already.
00:26:26Good vision, Casemiro.
00:26:29Dalo for Manchester United.
00:26:30Four up here.
00:26:31Brian and Bermot.
00:26:33Oh!
00:26:34And Bruno Fernandes just wide.
00:26:37This is a let-off for Liverpool.
00:26:40And Bruno Fernandes is really annoyed with himself.
00:26:43Just wide off the shin of Bruno Fernandes.
00:26:48He'll be delighted.
00:26:49They've played with a real energy and momentum today.
00:26:55So Manchester United are making a change at half-time.
00:26:58And Amad Diallo is coming on for Benjamin Sresko,
00:27:02which you would imagine has to be an injury.
00:27:09Meynou.
00:27:13Picked off.
00:27:15Amad Diallo's pass by Dominic Soboslay.
00:27:18Gappo to his left.
00:27:20Frimpong to his right.
00:27:21Soboslay goes alone and puts it in the net.
00:27:24Manchester United two.
00:27:26Liverpool one.
00:27:29Amad Diallo gave the ball to Dominic Soboslay.
00:27:33And he ran half the length of the field.
00:27:36Before planting it into the back of the Manchester United goal.
00:27:41More than half the length of the field, really.
00:27:44It's a really good finish, that.
00:27:46He's just passed it into the corner.
00:27:492-1.
00:27:52Colbert certainly put some wind in Liverpool's sails.
00:27:55More confident side now.
00:27:59Florian Wetz coming into a good position.
00:28:01Finding Soboslay back into Wetz.
00:28:05Well, Senna Lamans let it go.
00:28:08Confident that it wasn't on target.
00:28:10But a tidy progression up the pitch from Liverpool nonetheless.
00:28:14Florian Wetz is very often about placement rather than power.
00:28:18But it just curled away.
00:28:23Whoa!
00:28:24What a mistake by Lamans.
00:28:26And Cody Gappo scores for Liverpool.
00:28:30It's 2-2.
00:28:33Well, the lead never quite looked unassailable.
00:28:36But it looked extremely comfortable at half-time.
00:28:40It's lasted barely more than 10 minutes of the second half.
00:28:44And Manchester United have gifted Liverpool two goals, really.
00:28:50No hiding place for a goalkeeper.
00:28:52Not when you do this.
00:28:55Senna Lamans.
00:28:56It's straight to Alexis McAllister.
00:28:59And Gappo will never score an easier goal.
00:29:03It's all square.
00:29:07Manchester United have won only one of their last seven Premier League games against Liverpool at Old Trafford.
00:29:17Ryan Gravenberg.
00:29:22It is a free kick.
00:29:24And that is Cunha is horrified by that decision.
00:29:29Well, he's got a point.
00:29:31Cunha, he pulled out of the challenge.
00:29:34Sobosai.
00:29:35Oh, headed back across goal.
00:29:37Oh, that could easily have fallen more kindly for Liverpool.
00:29:42Well, this was very uncomfortable for United.
00:29:47Senna Lamans having to kind of hack it off the line.
00:29:59It's a foul by Van Dijk.
00:30:04A knee in the rump.
00:30:06Bruno Fernandes.
00:30:09Bruno Fernandes with the delivery.
00:30:11Casemiro.
00:30:12Straight at Woodman.
00:30:14How did he have so much space?
00:30:18Not a Liverpool defender anywhere near him, really.
00:30:25Togu.
00:30:26Mainu.
00:30:34Matches, couldn't you?
00:30:35Good ball, that.
00:30:35Luke Shaw here for United.
00:30:37Luke Shaw's cross toward Amadiallo.
00:30:40And McAllister kept it away from Casemiro.
00:30:42But Mainu scores.
00:30:46Great finish by Kobi Mainu.
00:30:50Manchester United 3, Liverpool 2.
00:30:54In the week, he signed a new long-term deal with Manchester United.
00:30:59Kobi Mainu steers them back in front.
00:31:05Great ball into Luke Shaw.
00:31:08Really was.
00:31:12McAllister's little flick didn't really do enough.
00:31:15And Mainu gets such a good, precise contact on this.
00:31:22Perfectly placed.
00:31:24Manchester United lead.
00:31:28Here's Curtis Jones.
00:31:31And he's found Alexis McAllister, who feeds Kerkhez, who moves it quickly into Ngamoua.
00:31:39Gatpo in the middle.
00:31:40Wertz in the middle.
00:31:40Ngamoua loves a step-over.
00:31:42Hits the shot wide of the post.
00:31:45And Sobosly on the edge of the penalty area.
00:31:48Wanted a pass.
00:31:50Couple of step-overs.
00:31:51Step inside.
00:31:53But why?
00:31:55From Ngamoua.
00:31:58And Manchester United will be playing Champions League football next season.
00:32:04That mission has been accomplished.
00:32:06And they've beaten Liverpool in the process.
00:32:10Manchester United 3, Liverpool 2.
00:32:14Mistakes are part of football and I think shows the group and the character to come back from that and
00:32:19bounce back.
00:32:19And if anything, to win with a late winner gives you a great feeling.
00:32:23And to see the stadium light up like it did is very special.
00:32:27I think we controlled the game.
00:32:29Maybe the whole game.
00:32:30But mainly the second half.
00:32:32And in the first half when we controlled it, we were not a threat at all offensively.
00:32:37But in the second half we combined controlling the game also with being a threat.
00:32:40But one moment of switching off is usually for us conceding a goal.
00:32:47Champions League, yeah, of course it's important.
00:32:49Let's not over-celebrate it because we want more than that.
00:32:51But nevertheless, to do it with so many games to spare from the position that we're in, I think there's
00:32:58a lot of people and a lot of players need a lot of credit for that.
00:32:59It's never an easy game against them, you know.
00:33:01There's always lots of ups and downs and just glad to come out with a win.
00:33:05It's nice to be back among the goals.
00:33:06I haven't scored in a while and an amazing fixture to do it in.
00:33:09I think Cobby's taken another step forward in the last couple of weeks especially.
00:33:13I think his performance and his level of performance has been top.
00:33:16And there's still a bit to come from him, but at the moment with the level that he's playing at,
00:33:21he can be really pleased with himself.
00:33:23Now, before we talk about the game, there was news this afternoon that Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital
00:33:28after falling unwell shortly before the game at Old Trafford.
00:33:31We have been told it was a precautionary move and not an emergency situation.
00:33:36And of course, everyone here at Match of the Day sends our very best wishes.
00:33:40And he would have enjoyed Manchester United's first league double over Liverpool in a decade.
00:33:46They've qualified for Champions League football next season, which, as Michael Carrick said, is not something they want to over
00:33:51-celebrate,
00:33:52but is crucial to the club moving forward financially as much as anything else.
00:33:57And also, it was Cobby Maynou who did it.
00:34:00And what a journey he's been on, Micah.
00:34:02He's been, as a player, he's been outstanding.
00:34:07But today, I thought it was exceptional, not just because of the stuff that I'm going to talk about here,
00:34:15the defensive.
00:34:16It's football intelligence, game intelligence, football IQ, all those things,
00:34:22understanding the positions you need to be in when you're in this position here.
00:34:28Obviously, helped by Casemiro.
00:34:30And Cobby Maynou has always been a player that we've liked and we've talked about for so long.
00:34:36But we didn't know what, was he an eight?
00:34:38Was he a six?
00:34:39Was he a ten?
00:34:40I think he's found his position now and he feels at home.
00:34:44And when I talk about the football intelligence, this is what I'm talking about.
00:34:47He keeps his game very safe when he needs to and then arrives late when he needs to also.
00:34:54He sees a space in front of him and then taking the risk and then can you finish?
00:34:59And the finish was brilliant.
00:35:01And I've been in that situation when you're a young boy and everyone's talking about you and it's very difficult
00:35:09to keep that level of consistency.
00:35:11But his consistency, we've just got some stats here to show you how good he was in that game in
00:35:16terms of his passes, possession won, distance covered.
00:35:19But the goal he scored and it was a big goal against Liverpool.
00:35:23But just the psychological sort of place that he's in.
00:35:26When everyone's telling you how good you are at 21 or 20 before, he's played for England and he's played
00:35:31in big games.
00:35:32And you're left out by the manager.
00:35:34How do you deal with that?
00:35:36And he's dealt with it spot on.
00:35:38His attitude's been brilliant.
00:35:39He could have lost his confidence, but he didn't lose confidence.
00:35:41And he puts in a performance like that.
00:35:44So it wasn't more about analysing his game and what he did.
00:35:47It's more about how he was taking on information and could he perform in his head.
00:35:52Because he's had a manager who didn't fancy him.
00:35:55And Carrick has put his arm around him.
00:35:57And these are the performances that you're getting from him week in, week out.
00:36:00And I just love to see it.
00:36:01And tied him into that long-term contract at Manchester United as well.
00:36:05I could do with one of those.
00:36:05Now while Bobby Maynard had the decisive moment in the game.
00:36:10There was one moment of controversy with Benjamin Seshko's goal.
00:36:14And when Arnaz Slott was asked about it in his post-match press conference, he was animated.
00:36:20I don't think it's a surprise to anyone this season that if there is a VR intervention
00:36:25or if there is something that you could look at or could be left, could be right,
00:36:29then that decision goes against us.
00:36:32That has been the whole season, every single time the same.
00:36:35This is a complete pattern over the whole season.
00:36:38But there's also a pattern that we concede ridiculous goals when we are the better team.
00:36:43One or two switching off and then we concede a goal.
00:36:46And that we have more influence on.
00:36:48So I should focus much more on that than on these referees' decisions that go against us.
00:36:52But it's clear that it's the whole season the same.
00:36:56And we will have a look at the way that Liverpool played in this game in just a moment.
00:37:00But we just want to clear up the Seshko goal.
00:37:02And was it handball?
00:37:03Was it not handball?
00:37:04What did you think, Alan?
00:37:06Well, I thought it was handball, yeah.
00:37:08And I think, I mean, I don't want to see these goals disallowed, right?
00:37:11I mean, I think that the handball laws are complete nonsense anyway.
00:37:15And this laws as well.
00:37:16But in terms of consistency and applying the law correctly,
00:37:21I think me and Mike agreed straight away that we both said that's hit his hand.
00:37:25You can see the motion of the ball move.
00:37:27Correct.
00:37:27Because it hits his left hand there.
00:37:29It's only a slight touch.
00:37:30I get that.
00:37:31And as I said, I don't want to see them disallowed.
00:37:33But when they're applying the law and that's what they say,
00:37:35if it hits any part of your hand and neither goalscorer,
00:37:38it should be disallowed.
00:37:39And that should have been disallowed.
00:37:40They say that that was inconclusive, the footage.
00:37:43But it's there for us, for all.
00:37:45See?
00:37:47The motion of the ball changed, didn't it?
00:37:50And that's what you need to look at.
00:37:52Like Alan said, we don't want to see goals given away for this
00:37:55when we're talking about fingernails or whatever.
00:37:57But the law is, if it comes off your hand,
00:37:59which it clearly did in our view,
00:38:02the goals shouldn't have been given.
00:38:04It's as simple as that.
00:38:06But isn't it?
00:38:06I mean, we're at this stage.
00:38:09This is where we're at now.
00:38:10This is where they've got us.
00:38:12We're actually debating whether it's flicked onto his finger unintentionally.
00:38:17Oh, we'd have talked about this before as well.
00:38:19That's the state the game is in now.
00:38:21We always find this stuff to talk about.
00:38:23But look, in terms of the way that Liverpool played,
00:38:27Arna Slott said, very honestly,
00:38:29that decision is not what cost Liverpool the game.
00:38:32The bits that they can control, they didn't get right,
00:38:35particularly in the first half, Alan.
00:38:36Yeah, well, their defending, I thought, was all over the place again.
00:38:39And for large parts of this season,
00:38:42that's why they're in the position they are
00:38:44and having the season they are.
00:38:45I mean, I think that's quite a simple header from Andy Robertson.
00:38:49He should be doing a lot better.
00:38:50That's the goal they concede.
00:38:53But they're actually all over the place,
00:38:54even when they give the ball away here.
00:38:56Van Dijk gets caught in no man's land.
00:38:58He's not sure we're into going tight.
00:39:00Then all of a sudden, he doesn't want to run in behind
00:39:02and stay with Fernandes, lets him run there.
00:39:05And again, I mean, that's a very, very good ball in.
00:39:10But they have so much space.
00:39:12Then Canardy has a look behind him.
00:39:14Then Robertson has a look behind himself.
00:39:16And he can see Bruno Fernandes.
00:39:17And eventually, when the ball goes in,
00:39:20now Bruno Fernandes is a fantastic player,
00:39:22but I don't think he should be winning that ball at the far post
00:39:24against Andy Robertson,
00:39:26against the quality of the defender that he is.
00:39:28But, again, look at the space he's got to run into there.
00:39:33The ball eventually comes out on the right-hand side,
00:39:36but Fernandes in the middle should do better.
00:39:39He's got incredible amounts of space.
00:39:43And also the concern is here, couldn't you?
00:39:45How on earth can he have so much time to take a touch and turn,
00:39:49take another touch, and then, I mean,
00:39:52Canardy just gets it so wrong.
00:39:54I mean, goodness me.
00:39:56That just sort of summed Liverpool up
00:39:58and the season that they're having.
00:40:00And Van Dijk decides to go in and close down on his own.
00:40:03Nowhere near him.
00:40:04Nowhere near him at all.
00:40:06But have a look at the back line here.
00:40:08When the ball eventually comes in,
00:40:09how far Kerkhez is behind.
00:40:11I mean, look at that line there.
00:40:14Yeah, it really is remarkable.
00:40:16I mean, to be fair to him,
00:40:17he does get across and he does get the ball eventually.
00:40:20But, again, it's comical defending.
00:40:23Kerkhez comes on for Robertson.
00:40:26He again has a look at Ahmed.
00:40:27He can see him.
00:40:28Smallest man on the pitch.
00:40:30Chips it in.
00:40:31And he heads it this time at the far post.
00:40:33Then McAllister gets his clearance all wrong.
00:40:35It's a very, very clever finish.
00:40:37But Liverpool defensively, goodness me.
00:40:41So many errors.
00:40:42And they've been punished for it all season,
00:40:44as they were today.
00:40:45What about Manchester United in their immediate future?
00:40:48Is Michael Carrick the man to take them forward?
00:40:50We've asked this question so many times since he took over.
00:40:54What we can see,
00:40:55and what the facts behind this are,
00:40:57is that if the table started when Michael Carrick took over,
00:41:00Manchester United would be top,
00:41:02and clear top five points ahead of Arsenal.
00:41:06They've qualified for Champions League football.
00:41:08They've signed Kobe Meynow up to a long-term deal
00:41:11and presumably increased any value that they would get
00:41:13if they were to sell him on.
00:41:15I know there's an emotional pull,
00:41:16but is there a sensible business decision to be made here as well?
00:41:20Well, it brought him in to do a specific job,
00:41:21and he's done that job very, very well.
00:41:23And in those games, he showed,
00:41:25he's won in big games as well.
00:41:26He's beaten City, beaten Arsenal, beaten Liverpool.
00:41:29So for me, yes,
00:41:31he at least deserves the chance to go again.
00:41:33I don't know,
00:41:34maybe a one-year contract with different incentives
00:41:36if he hits different targets.
00:41:38But he was brought in to do a job,
00:41:41and he's done that job.
00:41:42Who else would they bring in if not Michael Carrick?
00:41:45I mean, people keep asking that question.
00:41:48I think you need to be careful what you wish for.
00:41:50They've got a good manager there.
00:41:52He knows what he's doing.
00:41:53He knows the club.
00:41:54And he's getting results.
00:41:56What more do you want?
00:41:58Now, Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth
00:42:00are unbeaten in 14 Premier League games.
00:42:03It's the longest run in the division,
00:42:04and they're pushing for Europe.
00:42:06They faced Crystal Palace at the Vitality Stadium,
00:42:08and Jonathan Pearce was there.
00:42:1217 years ago this weekend,
00:42:15Bournemouth overcame a minus 17-point deficit
00:42:18imposed for financial irregularities
00:42:20to stay in the Football League on the last day.
00:42:23A win today would take them to the brink of Europe.
00:42:25A draw for Palace on Thursday
00:42:27will be enough to take them to the Conference League final.
00:42:30Two Bournemouth changes from the draw with Leeds.
00:42:33Ryan replaces Brooks,
00:42:34having scored from the bench last week,
00:42:36and Adams starts for the first time since early March,
00:42:39with Christie dropping to the bench.
00:42:41And with Thursday's returning at Shakhtar in mind,
00:42:44Palace rest Mateta, Mitchell, Richard, Saar, and Wharton.
00:42:48Tadiria plays his first league game since March the 5th,
00:42:50and there are starts for Di Veni
00:42:52for the first time since January.
00:42:54Lerma Johnson and Thursday's scorer Strand Larsson.
00:43:00Crystal Palace fans singing,
00:43:02they're on the way to Leipzig
00:43:04for the Conference Final.
00:43:06Bournemouth,
00:43:07from near oblivion,
00:43:08to Europe in a generation.
00:43:10That would be some story.
00:43:13And now Jimenez.
00:43:15That's out for a corner kick.
00:43:20I think she today would take them above Brentford
00:43:22into sixth.
00:43:24Down Brighton.
00:43:25He dropped down to eighth
00:43:26after that defeat at Newcastle,
00:43:28but it is a very tight tussle
00:43:29for European spots.
00:43:32In comes to Tavanagh.
00:43:33Corner Henderson punches.
00:43:35Skied up by Brennan Johnson.
00:43:39Devonny couldn't bring it under control.
00:43:41Croupy.
00:43:42That's a hit.
00:43:44Chaddy Riyad.
00:43:45And over it goes with a deflection.
00:43:48Ryan with a shot.
00:43:50He was tumbling as he had the shot.
00:43:53The teenager from Rio.
00:43:56Want to get it.
00:43:57Goal.
00:43:58It's off the line.
00:43:59Keepers kept it out.
00:44:00He hasn't, you know, it's a goal.
00:44:03Bournemouth lead.
00:44:05I wonder who will be credited with it.
00:44:09Evan Nielsen wants the goal.
00:44:12But did the defender on the post
00:44:14in trying to hook it out.
00:44:16Actually hook it over his own goal line.
00:44:20Evan Nielsen with the header.
00:44:22That has to be an own goal.
00:44:24Jefferson Lerma.
00:44:25Not too sure what he thought he was doing
00:44:27with the header in that position.
00:44:29Trying to head it back to his goalkeeper.
00:44:30In a tight spot.
00:44:33Henderson couldn't keep it out.
00:44:35Early lead for Bournemouth.
00:44:37And having made the five changes,
00:44:38this could get messy for Crystal Palace today.
00:44:44Camarda.
00:44:45Called in two mines.
00:44:47Scott pushes it through.
00:44:48Evan Nielsen.
00:44:52Bournemouth.
00:44:53Mines very much set.
00:44:55On Europe.
00:44:56Crystal Palace mines.
00:44:58Not really here today.
00:45:00Evan Nielsen.
00:45:01Slightly leaning off it.
00:45:03Riola.
00:45:04With just the three games left after this.
00:45:06Fulham away.
00:45:07Manchester City at home.
00:45:08Then Forrest on the last day.
00:45:11Tavernier.
00:45:14Bournemouth.
00:45:15Playing with their usual intensity.
00:45:18Scott.
00:45:18Lovely ball away to Jimenez.
00:45:21First time.
00:45:21Cross in.
00:45:22Would have been glorious.
00:45:23Better was over by Ryan.
00:45:26Lovely move.
00:45:28Swept out to the fullback.
00:45:29Early cross.
00:45:30Couldn't get over it.
00:45:32Yes, sir!
00:45:33Yes, sir!
00:45:36Here come Bournemouth again.
00:45:38Sweeping into the open space.
00:45:40Tavernier.
00:45:41Tavernier.
00:45:42Henderson beats it out.
00:45:45Could and should have been two there.
00:45:47True fair.
00:45:48Sees Ghosts in the middle.
00:45:51They've been such the dominant team.
00:45:53That was a chance to make it two.
00:45:56They didn't take it.
00:45:57And football is such a strange old beast.
00:46:00You wonder if the game could spin on that.
00:46:03It's been half an hour of mishaps.
00:46:06For the Conference League semi-finalists.
00:46:10Long throw by James Hill.
00:46:14Henderson comes.
00:46:15Good catch.
00:46:16Oh, he's dropped it.
00:46:16As he bashed into his own player.
00:46:18He's crashed into a Bournemouth player.
00:46:20And the penalty is given.
00:46:23He came caught comfortably.
00:46:25Then bashed into his own player.
00:46:27Dropped the ball.
00:46:29And his momentum took him on.
00:46:31Sinesi felt the touch and went down.
00:46:34And there's barely a touch.
00:46:36Barely a touch.
00:46:38But Sinesi sensed it.
00:46:40And goes down belatedly and theatrically.
00:46:43And surely this will be VAR checked.
00:46:48Somewhere back in the long distant pass.
00:46:52Plus I'm sure the laws of association football said something like it's a contact sport.
00:46:59Has been VAR checked.
00:47:02And it is a penalty.
00:47:04Dear oh dear.
00:47:06Game's gone.
00:47:08Kruppi.
00:47:35Kruppi.
00:47:37Four goals and five for him now.
00:47:43I think given that Crystal Palace were between games against Shakhtar.
00:47:47A Bournemouth victory today would not have been a surprise.
00:47:50But the comparative easiness of it is a surprise.
00:47:56Kruppi.
00:47:57Kruppi.
00:47:58Kruppi.
00:47:59Kruppi.
00:48:02Kruppi.
00:48:05Kruppi.
00:48:06Kruppi.
00:48:07Kruppi.
00:48:08Kruppi.
00:48:15Kruppi.
00:48:15Kruppi.
00:48:16Kruppi.
00:48:19Kruppi.
00:48:22Kruppi.
00:48:23Kruppi.
00:48:23Kruppi.
00:48:23Kruppi.
00:48:24Kruppi.
00:48:24chance for Anne, and that's game over,
00:48:30Crystal Palace have brought all their big guns on for the second half to no avail,
00:48:37lovely finish, rolls in back-to-back games for the Brazilian teenager,
00:48:45Brooks lovely ball and they've tried that pass so many times today,
00:48:49the pass put Lacroix out of the gate, but this is a super finish.
00:48:54Across the goalkeeper, tucked it away, looking on very satisfied indeed, the
00:49:02first team technical director Simon Francis, what a wonderful servant he was to this club.
00:49:13Wharton, oh nice little drop of the shoulder that, in comes a chip looking for Sarr, hits the post,
00:49:19that's all today for Palace, Mitchell back to the far post area and it's cleared away,
00:49:24I think Sarr might have been offside anyway, but it sort of sums up their fortune tonight,
00:49:30I don't think it would have counted, maybe it would have been tight, slammed the ball against the post,
00:49:35they're singing about going to Leipzig, they're on their way, they're on their way,
00:49:41and he had a European trophy to the two he picked up domestically in 2025.
00:49:52to Venni, when it comes to Sarr, across goal.
00:49:59What would the situation have been today, had Crystal Palace named their strongest team from the start?
00:50:06Well, Crystal Palace fans might have been singing about on their way, on their way to Leipzig in the
00:50:12conference final, are Bournemouth on their way to a European place themselves?
00:50:17On the pitch, it's been all about them today, winning by three goals,
00:50:21Sunil helped out by a dodgy penalty decision, but they were really, really well worth the win.
00:50:26Bournemouth super, a much changed Crystal Palace side, well below par.
00:50:31Bournemouth three, Crystal Palace now.
00:50:33I think it wasn't physically, it was more psychology, the problem today, you know,
00:50:37it's, you need to have quick solutions against you, you need to move quick,
00:50:42you need, everything has to be quick and if you're slow in your head, the legs are slow,
00:50:45so we all know this, and that's why it was more like this after this huge evening,
00:50:52we just couldn't recover mentally quick enough. We don't talk about this game anymore, it's not
00:50:57really two days for the players to recover, don't think about football and on Wednesday,
00:51:02we will start with the team to prepare for the second leg because, you know, going to a European
00:51:08final would be maybe the biggest game in Crystal Palace history.
00:51:12A lot to the fans today, the fans were top,
00:51:14we needed at most to keep going, but also the clean sheet as well, it's a good mentality going forward.
00:51:20You know, they are coming from playing Thursday night away, another away game,
00:51:24and probably it's not the game they wanted, you know, with intensity since the beginning,
00:51:30and I suppose it has been really difficult for them.
00:51:32I think the players have shown that they are determined to fight until the last game,
00:51:37I think to be in, I think, 15 games and beat and run is incredible, and I hope we can
00:51:42finish it,
00:51:42it's three more games, three difficult games, but I think everyone is not, I don't think we are
00:51:48feeling the pressure, you know, we are enjoying, even if we know the results are important, I see
00:51:54my team enjoying against Liszt the other day, I think we played really well, today the same,
00:51:58the two away games, like, let's keep this level, and we don't know if it's going to arrive, and we
00:52:04obviously want to get it, but I wouldn't like to change our mentality or our approach, because
00:52:09we see it closer.
00:52:11So Bournemouth, much the better team against the Crystal Palace side, who for all the reasons that
00:52:15everybody's mentioned, were not at their best today, and Alan, despite the fact that you have
00:52:19a fond regard for Premier League referees, you might find yourself mildly critical of the penalty that
00:52:25allowed them to open the scoring.
00:52:26Yeah, I didn't agree with it at all, to be honest, I thought it was very, very kind. I mean,
00:52:33he takes two steps after the year, if there is contact. What I have to stress is that not every
00:52:39contact is a foul, and I also think if you're going to give it for minimal contact like that,
00:52:46then it encourages diving, that's the issue, and the referee's got a really good view of it.
00:52:52I mean, there is tiny, tiny, but certainly not enough to go down. He takes two steps after,
00:52:58and then sort of twists his body, Sanessi, so, no, not for me.
00:53:02So because the on-field referee has seen the incident, has seen the contact,
00:53:06and decides that that's enough to award a penalty, that's why there was no intervention from VAR,
00:53:12no going over to look at the screen, Micah?
00:53:14There was contact, wasn't there? But it was his fiat tricks after that. He rolled two seconds later,
00:53:21yeah. If he'd gone down straight away, he was like, hold up, no problem. But that's not a penalty.
00:53:25It's soft. I agree with Alan. Not every contact is a penalty.
00:53:29Shall we talk about something more positive?
00:53:31Yes!
00:53:31And that's Alex Scott.
00:53:32Oh, I love him. I absolutely love him, and he's my wild card for the World Cup.
00:53:37I tried to tell Alan a year ago about Anderson, and I'm telling him about Alex Scott now.
00:53:42I mean, set pieces are so big in today's game, he takes a good set piece. I don't know what
00:53:46Lerma's doing there,
00:53:47just misjudges it. But it's this calmness on the ball. When he gets on the ball, and then can you
00:53:53see
00:53:53a pass outside of the foot, Eben Olsen should do a lot better. Well, this is the best one for
00:53:58me.
00:53:58Can you receive the ball in between the lines? A lot of midfielders hide and don't want the ball.
00:54:04And yes, he might only play to the side, but he's being brave on the ball, and then keeping the
00:54:10ball
00:54:10moving. I just, every time I watch him, he's so comfortable on the ball. You know, he's got that
00:54:17little technique and touch, and he's got everything that a midfielder should have playing in the Premier
00:54:24League. And look at that, for the delightful little touch there too now. And you know, 67 touches,
00:54:31and every time I watch him, I just love his game. I think he's really that good, and long may
00:54:36it continue.
00:54:36He's having a brilliant, brilliant season. He's standing out in almost every game. He's superb.
00:54:41And one thing that these two teams have in common is that their managerial situation is in flux at the
00:54:48moment. Andoni Areola will be leaving. Oliver Glasner will be leaving. And what's quite interesting
00:54:53about the two of them is that they have an identical record in charge, pretty much. They've got the same
00:54:59number of points per game. That's an Areola who's played 111, 140 of them. So it's 1.41 points per
00:55:05game.
00:55:06And is ninth in the points ranking since he took charge. And Oliver Glasner finds himself in
00:55:13exactly the same position. Different number of games, obviously, but with that same record
00:55:18of 1.41 points per game and ninth in the points ranking. And yet, and yet, we're not going to
00:55:25see
00:55:25them next season. And they've both got an incredible chance to go out on a high. I mean,
00:55:29there is possible Bournemouth could qualify for Champions League. It is very possible.
00:55:33If they're going to have to finish fifth and win the Europa League,
00:55:35that sixth place will be a Champions League spot. And Crystal Palace have got a chance of
00:55:38winning a trophy. And they can go out on incredible highs. And they've both done brilliant
00:55:43jobs and clearly very, very talented managers.
00:55:45I'm good to see Areola going. Because what he's brought to this Bournemouth side in terms of
00:55:50the press, the recruitment's been really brilliant, and the way they play football.
00:55:55So to have that potentially go into the Champions League and leaving and not being
00:55:58a manager to take them at potential...
00:56:00We don't know he's going to leave in the Premier League.
00:56:02Oh, do you know something? I don't.
00:56:05No, I don't know something. Very specifically said, I don't know something.
00:56:12Now, there is a big bank holiday Monday coming up. The Snooker World Championship final
00:56:17between Sean Murphy and Wu Yeze concludes tomorrow from 1pm on BBC Two. You can listen to live
00:56:24commentary from Chelsea against Nottingham Forest on BBC Sounds and Five Live tomorrow from 3pm.
00:56:29As well as a massive game in the Scottish title race between leaders' hearts and third-place Rangers
00:56:35from 5.30pm. And on Wednesday night, there's live WSL on BBC Three as Arsenal travel to Brighton.
00:56:42And now, here are all the rest of the goals from the weekend.
00:56:49Good spot. Strike from range. An emphatic opening goal.
00:56:58Bogle. His cross. Okafor!
00:57:08Okafor. Tanaka sits up nicely. Good save! And Poto!
00:57:13Oh! Dominic Calvin Lewin!
00:57:18Anthony, what a fierce touch that is. And he's slipped in. Lume Chauner here.
00:57:23Lume Chauner!
00:57:30Out comes Mabrucken. He's lost his footing and he's slipped. Murphy went down momentarily,
00:57:35but he's crossed lines of Solaire! Magnificent!
00:57:41Burns header! 2-0!
00:57:47Belieber. Gross. Hinsherwood. Welbeck.
00:57:51Hinsherwood again. Welbeck. Hinsherwood. What a goal this will be!
00:57:55Hinsherwood thumps it home. And Brighton are right back in this game.
00:58:01Burn for Wisser.
00:58:05Oh, it's short from Van Eker. And Wisser with another chance to wrap it up.
00:58:11It'll come for Barnes. Barnes takes his time and rifles it home!
00:58:19Granit Xhaka will deliver this. There's a lot of pace on that and it's in.
00:58:25Murkiel is header. Sunderland in front. Hugo Bueno is going to take this corner kick.
00:58:32And it's in! Santiago Bueno with the header at the back post.
00:58:41Lewis Potter's ball in. Isn't a bad one? And Coyote's there!
00:58:45And it's in and Brentford have scored!
00:58:52Challenged by Girff right on the edge of the box. It's a penalty.
00:58:59And it's 2-0 to Brentford.
00:59:04Tidy turn from Damska! There it is!
00:59:07And it's an excellent three points for Brentford.
00:59:12Saka. He's got the space. Oh, he's now got a position. Brilliant from Saka.
00:59:18And a tap in for Jokeres.
00:59:22That's a delightful pass for Jokeres. A lot to do, though. He's got to wait for assistance.
00:59:28It comes from Saka. Saka!
00:59:35It's Trossard. And Trossard chips it in for Jokeres!
00:59:40Arsenal have been outstanding in this first half.
00:59:46Michael, not only did Arsenal get the win, they got three goals, which has put them on a four-goal,
00:59:52better goal difference than Manchester City. They've scored one more goal than Manchester City,
00:59:56have played two games more. But is momentum now back with Arsenal in the title race?
01:00:01I think beating Fulham was massive. It's very difficult because I always thought
01:00:07Arsenal wasn't creating enough. I think bringing Saka back in, coming back from injury,
01:00:11made a massive difference. I think Jokeres' runs in behind allowed them to get up the field
01:00:16a little bit earlier. I thought Trossard was good as well. So in terms of momentum, yes,
01:00:21you say Arsenal will go all the way. But Man City, Man City always, they're always there or there about.
01:00:29So it's going to be interesting to see towards the end of the season.
01:00:31Well, what is also very interesting is to see what you guys are going to predict.
01:00:35Having said Cam is coming to the show, it's a fool's game.
01:00:38Who's going first? Are you going first or am I going first?
01:00:40I think we're going to let Alan go first in this one because Alan's put a little bit of
01:00:47jeopardy into the whole equation. So we'll take a look at who everybody's got left.
01:00:52And remember also that Manchester City have got games in there. Arsenal have got their
01:00:57semi-final still to come in the Champions League, second leg of their semi-final to come on Tuesday.
01:01:02Look at the amount of games though Manchester City have left compared to Arsenal.
01:01:05I just think the belief that that will give Arsenal yesterday and the return of Saka and
01:01:11what he gives to that team in terms of balls into the box, energy drawing so many players
01:01:17towards him which then might free up one or two others. I think going forward that result
01:01:22yesterday was huge for Arsenal and I can see them winning every game. When I look at Manchester City,
01:01:28they've got the experience. Some of the players have obviously been there and know what it's about.
01:01:33Clearly the manager has, but I just think that that game at Bournemouth with the form there in,
01:01:38they might just get a draw there. So that's why I'm saying Arsenal.
01:01:41Micah?
01:01:43Both teams are going to win everything.
01:01:4785, 85.
01:01:48So now you've given yourself the more difficult task of trying to predict how many goals they're
01:01:52going to score in these games.
01:01:52Well, I'm thinking of 2012. We did it on goal difference. I think Man City will do it on
01:01:57goal difference again.
01:01:58You've been saying this for a while.
01:01:59I have.
01:02:00Those 2012 comparisons.
01:02:01I have.
01:02:03I have.
01:02:03Yeah.
01:02:03Maybe, just maybe, I think it'll be the same this season.
01:02:07It's going to be very interesting to see. Of course, Manchester City have got a couple
01:02:10more games to try and get that goal difference up than Arsenal have between now and the end of
01:02:13the season. But Arsenal have the advantage at the moment.
01:02:16Let's take a closer look then at the Premier League table.
01:02:19We've already looked at the very top of it.
01:02:21Manchester United's win means that they will be playing in the Champions League next season.
01:02:25Bournemouth have moved above Brentford and Brighton in the race for European football.
01:02:30Tottenham's second win in a row sees them climb out of the relegation zone with just
01:02:34three games left to play. Nottingham Forest, two points above them, go to Chelsea tomorrow.
01:02:53And the results are in for April's goal of the month. Rio and Gamora in third place with 17%
01:02:59of the vote. With 19%, it is Xavi Simons. And the winner with 22% is Karu Mitoma.
01:03:18It's Karu Mitoma with a fantastic goal. A blistering volley.
01:03:27Always worth seeing again. Thank you very much to Alan and to Micah. Lovely to have your company
01:03:32this evening as Spurs dealt their relegation rivals a hammer blow. Good night.
